Why do I have two sdcard folders? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

When I browse using the Root Browser, in the root folder there is a folder called "sdcard." But when I go into the /mnt folder there is another folder called "sdcard" and "extSdCard" and some other folders. Can anyone explain why I have the other sdard folder in the root folder? It seems to be identical but I don't understand why it is there. Also if I can, I'd like to delete it as it seems to be pointlessly taking up space.
**EDIT** Ah wtf now I found even more duplicate folders. In the root folder there is a folder called /storage and in there there are folders identical to the /mnt folder. Except sdcard is now sdcard0. What is going on!!!??!?!
Some information, I rooted and flashed the JB leak a few days ago so I assume some of this is because of that. How can I safely bring my phone back to stock? I mean completely stock, deleting everything so it is like new from the box.

If you have an external sd card in the phone then you will see sd and extsd

Totally normal dude. They're not really duplicates, just linked to the ssme location. /sdcard and /mnt/sdcard both go to /data/media, which is your internal storage.
/mnt/extSdCard is your external microSD.
Its like that out of the box so it won't change going back to stock.

[Q] Where can I find my external SD card in Root Explorer?

So where is my external SD card in root explorer? I did some searching on the forums but I couldn't find anything that helped.
Thanks.
Go to /sdcard and inside you should find a folder called external_sd which should take you to it.

Wow! I swear I've gone to that before and it was empty! haha. This time it shows up. Well thank you for the help.
/sdcard
or /mnt/sdcard
That used to happen to me on the Galaxy S (Captivate). Basically the media scanner didn't pick up the external sd for whatever reason. If you do find that folder empty, just run media scanner again (There are apps in market that do this but I believe you must have root).

[Q] Weird files on external sdcard

So, I've been noticing weirdly-named, zero-byte files on my external sdcard lately. These are appearing in the root of the external card and the /Dropbox folder that contains a couple folders I sync with Dropbox via Dropsync. Most of these files appear to be named "µ". Dozens of them in each directory. Most of them show up with that same name. A few are other unprintable and weird characters.
Any thoughts?

Possible malware? I would backup both sd cards to your PC then format them. After that only put the files back in that you know you need, and the rest will be there if you need them. Remove all those odd files before doing anything though.
You could also try the sd maid app to clean it up.
Someone else posted about this a few weeks ago. I think the extsd was going bad.
The problem was on my 16gb card.
I was trying (again) to get my 32gb/class 10 working with my SGSIII. It still won't work reliably. So, I reformatted the 16gb and copied everything back. We'll see if these files return.
Thanks for the advise.

[Q] Can't mount internal SD

Rooted and flashed my phone last night and everything works great. However, for some reason I can't see my internal SD (I think this is what it's called) anymore in file explorer. It's weird because in CWM I can view the internal SD just fine and can see the zip files I flashed. Any ideas on how to make this visible again in Astro or File Explorer (PC)?
EDIT:
I switched to TWRP and I can now see that my entire internal SD folder has now been moved to /data/media (?????). How do I make this visible from PC? Also I'm confused now..where do I place ROM zip files I want to flash? I don't have an external SD card

I'm guessing you flashed an AOSP ROM? When doing this the system partition creates an emulated folder of your internal memory. You can locate it in any root browser by navigating to /storage/emulated/0/
That is your actual internal sd card. Now you know where to place all your files. Your pc should read this directory by defaut
EDIT: your memory was always in data/media. However flashing an aosp Rom will add a secondary partition and that's the one you wanna go to.

The rom I flashed was: [4.2.2][AOKPA:CM10.1] ParanoidKANGdroid 2.32
Navigating to /storage/emulated/0 does show the "current" internal memory and this does show up on PC
I guess what the problem is, I am trying to access the internal memory from my "old" stock ROM. I know it exists still because in TWRP it shows up under data/media. This folder is NOT what is displayed in /storage/emulated/o/.
When I navigate to data/media in astro it shows up as empty (Actually the "data' folder is empty)
Okay so I got access to the folder using Root Explorer. Is it safe to delete everything in "data/media"? Its literally everything from the old ROM and nothing from the new...

It is safe. deleting everything from /data/media/ is the same thing as formatting you're sd card. So unless you don't care I'd recommend just deleting any old files from your previous ROM that doesn't actually appear in /storage/emulated/0/. It's just taking up space. If you decide to return to a TW ROM, /emulated/0/ will still exist but will no longer be your phone's default memory location until you revert back to aozp. Just keep that in mind.

All 4.2 Based Roms can not read anything on my internal SD card...

For some reason when I install a rom that is 4.2.2 based, it sees the directories in the INTERNAL SD but they are all empty.
HOWEVER. When I revert BACK to a 4.1.2, or 4.1.1 ROMS the files are there, and it sees them and they work fine.
What is it doing this weird behavior??
Furthermore if I try hooking up the phone to the computer it sees that there is a LOT of space taken up on the internal SD card. But again ALL directories are empty. Of course if I reboot into recovery all my files are there. ALl my zips whatever. What the heck is going on?

4.2 AOSP ROMS emulate your internal memory by creating a secondary sd partition. There are many paths to viewing your internal memory but the most common directory is
/storage/emulated/0
"0" is your actual internal sd card.
You can also view ALL existing files in
/data/media/
So if the first path doesn't show you any files then the /data/media directory should do it for you..

It's really not a problem man.. TB can't read that directory cuz you haven't set it to.. You need to move your current TB folder to the path mentioned above then go and change your current backup directory to that or just simply scan the entire device and it will find it. Same applies to your music or any other media files.

Why can't my phone read the SDcard with 4.2.2 installed. this is frustrating me

Okay, every time i installa ROM that has 4.2.2 in it, i can't find any of my files for my internal SD card. I go to TITanium backup and it can't find any of my backups. I trioed SDCARD 0, SDCARD 1 and emulated. It finds nothing.
I am so frustrated with this, I KNOW the files are there because when i install the darkstalker rom it seems the files again.
What is going on
I can't see anything that was on my internal SD card, all my downloads are gone, my pictures. It doesn't see the internal card at all on the phjone if i go back into recovery i can see my files.
Copy all of your files to your computer. Format your SD card. While on 4.2 reboot the phone (it should create the 0 folder). now plug your phone into your computer and copy your files into the 0 folder.

Use file explorer to move files from /data/media to /storage/emulated/0. Exclude folders "obb" and "legacy" from /data/media. When complete, in /data/media, you should see 3 folders: 0, legacy, obb. This was a really stupid change to include in the phone OS builds. For tablets, it makes sense. For phones, it causes nothing but confusion.
Problem solved.
