Hello, I was curious if you can flash ROMs from the S3's from other carriers besides T-Mobile and also flash ROMs from the international forums. I remeber back when i had my Vibrant all you would have to do is flash the correct boot.img and also replace the keylayout file. Is it as simple as flashing a tmobile boot.img since the keys are all the same? Thank you in advance.
don't do it.

There is a possibility of sharing ROMs with the AT&T model. If you go check out their forum, there are a couple of ROMs which people have successfully flashed on the T-Mobile model. Search the threads and flash at your own risk!

That is totally true. On the Hercules you could flash the skyrocket roms. But the T-Mobile ones are usually better. The att ones are really only better when att leaks first.
Don't do it was an oversimplification, however.
Just heard about too many people flashing the international roms.

Nope, the hardware internally is too different. I doubt there'll be an easy method to port the ROMs either.
The AT&T ROMs on the other hand should be fairly easy to port and I think there is a group working towards this goal.
You will lose your insurance.
Just to let you know, you will lose your phone's insurance, this is not the same as the 90 day warranty. I remember I had flashed my vibrant to a rom using the international model, about six months later I got a letter in the mail saying assurion would no longer insure my phone, because it wasn't the right model. I might have been able to add the text file that adds the correct model number, but I don't know if that really works or how to I it.

In this case they could have seen the flashing being done and the changing of the build.prop file. That would make the most sense to me.
You obviously haven't been reading...heck go for it.
You CAN NOT do other roms, as was stated, the hardware is different.
Not that hard to search. Do it and report back with results.

Risky is an i9300 rom because the SoC is 100% different. We all have the same SoC so it's not as big of a deal.

My guess would be that ATT, T-Mobile, and VZW all use 1700/2100 MHz bands for LTE while Sprint uses different bands. That's just a guess, so I could be wrong.

Flashed a verizon tw based rom or two as well. Those tend to require a change two the build.prop but still am able to use their kernel just fine. The tw ones never run this good tho

For any of you who want to have your cake and eat it too, you can now flash the international N7105 firmware onto your AT&T branded i317!
What does this mean? It means that you can give AT&T the middle finger by having unlocked firmware with none of the restrictions and bloatware. By extension, this also means that you can benefit from the development going on for the international devices.
Finally, this also means that you can reap all those benefits without sacrificing LTE access in North America!
Now that this has been confirmed to work with the i317, I wonder if the T889 is next...

We tried flashing the international N7105 firmware onto the i317 using Odin, but that didn't work. However, the procedure seems to be working if, instead of using Odin, you flash a re-packaged stock N7105 firmware using a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP, just like flashing any other custom ROM. Once that's done, just flash the AT&T modem/kernel, and you're all set!
Unfortunately, there hasn't been much development for the N7105 yet. Root, CWM, deodexing and all the other basics are there, but that's all for the moment. Devs are still trying to work out N7100/N7105 inter-compatibility. N7100 firmware will flash to an N7105, but the modem won't work, so that's pretty useless, and that's what we're all trying to fix.
At least, in the mean time, you can enjoy a stock N7105 experience in North America without AT&T/Rogers sticking their fingers in the pie
Is the 7100 the non LTE version and 7105 LTE? If this allows us to get FM Radio on our North American Note 2s, I'm going to be very happy!

Very nice.
Upon thinking about it. I believe there is a way to use this method to give us international firmware and also retain our NA CSC's so we keep carrier specific settings such as Wi-Fi access, Fast dormancy and the like too.
Currently working on it and will get back to people once I am finished.
Glad to see someone else was working on this as it was something I wanted to get around to messing with but have been busy poking into Bootloaders and dialer codes.

Agreed however, no one knows for sure it isn't present in our devices and that Samsung just removed the driver at the request of the greedy NA companies. They don't want us listening to something for free when they can force us to connect and use data. Maybe the driver is in the 7105 firmware...

Did what Miscom had done and got the latest GT-I7105 Unbranded firmware release LJ5, with this one I injected the Canadian CSC's and everything seems to be working except a few carrier apps that check for the proper model number they would force close on me.
Going over this firmware, seems okay but doesn't seem to be any better then the stock LJ2 that came with the phone.
My main hope with using an international firmware would be unlocked dialer codes, and I was correct in my testing, any carrier locked dialer codes are controller within the firmware + check what CSC you have as well.
Got some working that I couldn't before hand, however the main one that I wanted to use was the *#7465625# to view network lock status, it was one that I couldn't get working, but I believe that it wasn't working because my phone is already a factory unlocked one so to really know for sure I'd half to have one that is known to be locked.
Anyways, glad this experiment worked, I will definitely be looking at this again in the future, however I know that the Samsung Canada is planning on releasing an updated firmware for the phone at the same time or soon after the Canadian S3's get their Jelly Bean updated, and it is also rumored that they will be 4.1.2 as well. So with this possibility I will be going back to Bell's Stock firmware and see what we get in a few weeks.

To my understanding, yes. I am downloading it now and will be flashing it shortly. I'm curious if the Wallet issues were NA specific to ATT as well? I should reread those threads to see what the problem was...
So I am new to GSM phones anyway but I just got an AT&T GSIII and I am using it on T-Mobile. I am a Sprint user initially (rooted Gnexus) and testing T-Mobile in an area I frequent to compare if it is worth switching.
My questions is I am already downloading the root kit and ready to run a ROM but should I use a T-Mobile Rom or an AT&T Rom. Also not sure if I should be asking this in the T-Mobile general section. Any advice would be great.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
If its an ATT phone it should have an ATT ROM. (I've never tried any other carries so anyone else correct me if I'm wrong)
Just set your APNs to tmobiles APN and you should be set.

You can use any Rom that states the option for picking tmobile or att in Aroma installer
Also I can verify you can odin a stock T-Mobile tar file onto the i747 and get perfect working 4g and wifi calling.
Flashing strictly t-mobile roms may be another problem.
A few good roms for T-Mobile users on the att i747 @re
Wicked Rom v10
And T-Motion both in att android dev.
Make sure to choose t-mobile as the carrier when u set up aroma install on the i747 if you use tmobile sim..
The reason the roms all works across the t999 @i747 is because the phones are so identical and the build props have been tweaked/edited to create working roms on a completely diff carrier device.

Wondering if you ever got this done and working with WiFi calling.
I have this funky i747 in a T999 case thing going. I'm running an ATT stockmod ROM on it, but thinking of flashing a T-Mobile ROM on it
This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2501303 - though I've been advised not to flash the modem it says to flash ... last time I did on this phone I lost IMEI ... upside is this time the NVitems data has been backed up). At any rate, I haven't tried it yet. Word is it'll either work or it won't, and I can flash back to the ATT stockmod I'm using if it doesn't. But I'm a little leery of trying it right now.
The reason to do it would be to get wifi calling. Otherwise I like the phone just fine the way it is. That's why I'm reading threads like this. To see what experience others have had.
I flushed with Wicked v10 :

Even though I agree with this, some ROMs in the Verizon and T-Mobile section are universal and some do say sprint. I have heard if you flash another us carrier s3 ROM (NOT THE INTERNATION ONE) ANOTHER US CARRIER, Rom, let's say t mobile ROM on Verizon phone, the worst that happens is data won't work and a bunch of force closes, but won't hard brick since it has the same hardware.
DONT QUOTE ME ON THAT! Just say in what I think I heard. Don't go flashing other carrier ROMs (OR INTERNATION ONES) for no reason.
If the OP says universal and it says compatible with sprint, do it if you feel comfortable. Personally I wouldn't until I know someone else is running it.

I know it's safe to flash because it is a universal rom, and specifically states support for the Sprint variant. I wasn't trying to see if it was safe but rather ask if it was stable since universal Roms tend to work well for the device they work on and not so well for the other supported phones. I appreciate all of your warnings but I already know not to flash stuff from other forums unless specifically made for sph-l710.

But unless you consider yourself experienced with the S3 model T999, I would just stick with what we already have here. You can't just flash and have them work 100%. Often there are different tweaks or changes that need to be made.

But at least with the Dandroid ROM, built on S3Rx, you can flash the AT&T Stock MG2 kernel.
Yup, AT&T kernels are compatible with our T999. In fact, some of the custom ones are AT&T kernels just ported over here. At least they were at one time. Haven't looked in a while.

Hey doc Glad to see that you are still here.
I have flash several roms from att out of the box working. Like you said att kernels are compatible. Sprint, verizon roms have to do some tweaking as for to get data working etc but it still fun to do with.
Been a while since I really did something but slowly doing stuff when the time is right.
