Hi All,
I've taken a look around and can't seem to find anything relating to this so I'm gona ask.
I've just got my DHD and love it but I have never used Android before so it's taking some getting used to. ( I'll get there I'm sure )
My question is I have an MP3 file I'd like to use for my notifications ( comes from my HTC Touch HD ) but for the life of me I can't seem to put it in the media folder that the DHD uses. I can find it using the ES file search thing but it won't let me copy in to it?
Do I need to get admin rights? Rooting or whatever its called?
Sorry if it's a daft question. but its annoying the bejesus outa me.
Thanks in advance
JD
I think you have got to place the mp3 in a folder on the root of your sdcard called "notifications".
Hope that works!
Hi CD993,
Thanks for the reply but..
I can't find any folders on the sdcard other than the ones i've made from having it in my Touch HD.
I can however find the Notifications folder in audio on the phones memory. This has all the MP3's that the phone uses. But still I can't paste to it. Just says copy failed.
I'm just wondering if I need to "jailbreak it" or root....something something to be able to add to the root folders.
put your phone in settings, connect to pc,select disc drive now your computer willl see your sdcard as a drive look at your my computer and either go into my mobile at the bottom or go into the sdcard on my computer it comes up as Idrive as copy your mp3 file into your mobile here disconnect your mobile and search for it in your mp3 files through your media music app.you may have to reboot your mobile once disconnected from the computer so the file gets noticed.
if this is not what your looking for then sorry but I dunno.
Hi Magpie,
Thanks but no.
I already have the MP3 on the sdcard but I can't seem to copy it to the system/media/audio/notifications. This is where the phone reads the sounds that it plays when you receive email/txt etc.
Maybe I should just flash a new ROM although this appears harder than it is with the touch HD on winmo lol
Thanks for the reply anyways
JD
Edit:
I've since managed to Root the phone "give me root admin rights" but still am unable to copy files to the phones root folders.
Im sure you just put the mp3's in a folder on your sdcard called notifications e.g. sdcard/notifications/ringtone.mp3

Hi CD993,
Maybe there is a problem with my sdcard? I don't have such a folder on it. I have a music folder data folders google folders I've looked through them all and can't find a notifications folder on the sdcard?
Should the DHD be using the sdcard as its main source for audio etc?
SdCard/Sounds/Notifications
SdCard/Sounds/Alarms
SdCard/Sounds/Ringtones
SdCard/Sounds/UI
Make the folders as you need them. Then you will be able to find them in the Sounds tab in the menu.

If you have root access you should be able to write them to the main memory using a program like Root Explorer. You can find system sounds in /System/Media/Audio.

Flashing Android ROMs is so much easier than WM. It's getting the root that is the *****. It took me ages to work out how to install the ADB drivers when I first got my Desire.
Flashing ROM's just replaces two folders, so if you are updating from one AOSP ROM to another, maybe even Sense I don't know I don't use it, generally speaking you don't need to wipe the phone and you keep all of your apps.

Hi Kal,
Yes as far as I'm aware I have root perms. i used VISIOnary? and followed a thread on here When I open cmd promt or whatever its called on linux and type su it gives me the # which apparantly means i have rooted it?
Yet I was unable to copy to that folder on the phones main memory.
That ADB driver I'm afraid i've not even looked into it yet all I know is my win 7 failed to install it when I plugged the phone in for the first time.
I've gotten as far as using titanium back up for apps etc. Just need to do some more research I guess I'm new to android
anyway thanks for all your help people. i'm sure i'll have more questions in the appropriate threads as time goes by. Thanks all

Personal Audio Files for Yahoo! Mail
Everything you all have said works, if I put something in mnt/sdcard/media/audio/notifications I am able to then see the files under the Sounds Setting.
My issue is needing Yahoo Mail to see the notification. For that I need to copy the files to /system/media/audio/notification and for that I am not able to change the permissions. I have tried ES File Explorer and I am not even able to move up from sdcard. I have also tried total commander and I get "Error writing to target file! /system/media/audio/notifications/yahoo.mp3
Can someone please help. I really like the Yahoo! application.
Setting Yahoo Notification
Root explorer will allow you to change the directory from Read Only to Read Write. It can be purchased from Play (Market) or acquired by other means as I did.
Copy the file to /system/media/audio/notification using root explorer.
Reboot.
Tada...

Put Music to your SDCard ?
/Music
Hi,
There are the default songs that came with the phone in that folder. And I could see these songs in the music player, but now when opening the music player it says: "No music found"
And after using the eFile Manager app I saw that the songs are on the SD Card so they didn't move anywhere.
This also happened to my whole Gallery now. It says: no photos & videos found
What should I do???
The files are on the SD Card but not in the Gallery. Did unmount and remounted the sdcard several times and used the SDRescan app and everytime I use the Rescan app, the new pictures or movies I take before rescanning,, go away from the Gallery.
Please I really need help on this!!
Is it the standard SD Card that came with the phone?
If not, try a new SD card in there. All music in the sdcard/Music folder should be auto found as said above. If not, it sounds like there's a problem with your card.
Also, are you on stock ROM or rooted? Bought in shop or online?
Check if anywhere from the root of your SD card has this .nomedia file.
This nomedia file tells your gallery/music apps not to detect that part of the SD card.
Had this problem few months ago too
Yes it's a SD card that came with the phone (8gb Samsung) , I bought it online from Asia.
It was perfectly good until I got this problem.
I didn't do much with the phone in terms of changing the software or Rom. So it's the same Rom the phone came with (stock).

Hi,
The .nomedia files has nothing in it :s
I don't know if I have to buy another SD card because if the problem persists I lost my money on the SD card too :s
Grr,
Help guys
Delete the .nomedia file.
Hi!
It worked! Now I have my pictures and music back!
BUT I also took some videos :S
Where are these videos at? :S because they are not in the Video player :S and they are very important videos :S
Please help me with this!
Also how should I get rid of the sounds in my music player use the .nomedia folder then? because I have a lot of sounds from the apps and games playing in the music player while I'm listening to music.
and just having the .nomedia folder empty did hide all my music and picturesa and can't find my videos right now.
Please some help would be appreciated!
Thanks
u just got to place the nomedia right
f.e.
SDCARD
- media
- - music
- - videos
- Android
- - game1
- - game2
in this case u can palce the .nomedia in the game1 and game2 directorys, just not in the root sd folder
.nomedia prevents album&music to scan the directory & all subdirectories from scanning

Many thanks, this is the way to put music and play in DHD.
try remounting your sd card via recovery
Thank for explaining me this!
NOW I know how this nomedia thingy works.
I did it but STILL don't know where those videos went.
and I really need them
Why does that file .nomedia appear?
I had the same issue, and if not for this forum, i wouldn't know what to do.
Don't know how I got it on there. And more serious is, you think anyone else would look or just re-format. I don't know if it is a bug, but pretty serious if the average user has no clue what to do.
I don't know how the hell did the .nomedia file ended up in the root of my two sdcards, but I agree it's a serious problem, I was just preparing myself to do a hardreset and even to send my phone to repair when I found this thread.
I had the same problem 2 days ago and I formatted the SD card and everything worked fine after it.I remember seeing this nomedia thing in most folders but I also recall that some files got deleted (one avi and one flv).could it be a certain app issue?
Thanks

Hi,
I have an issue with migrating from 4.0.4 (AOKP) to 4.1.1 (XenonHD, stock, JellyBean, etc)... Suddenly after update all media files disappeared. I thought that I've lost them during the update, but I found them using the Root Explorer - it's still in appropriate folders on SDCARD folder (DCIM, 100ANDRO, Camera, Music, etc).
But why gallery doesn't see anything (except some icons/pictures in some folders)???
And the same for music, for example tool for assigning music on ringtones or notifications which comes together with GO SMS also doesn't see any music MP3 files!!!! Why??? Can anybody answer me, what's going on?

Look in folder DCIM, if it have .nomedia file then delete it U can also downgrade to 4.0.4 to see if it happen? Do you wipe everything. U must wipe if go from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1
1. I've made full wipe before flash.
2. There are no ".nomedia" file
Any other ideas? Does anybody face the same?

Do you have RomManager installed?
Check the root of your sdcard for ".nomedia" (Note that it's a hidden file, so make sure you have Root Explorer set to show hidden files).
If you have it, and you have rommanager installed, make sure to update to the latest rommanager, and then delete the .nomedia file and reboot your phone.
If you don't have rommanager installed, but you have a .nomedia file at the root of your sdcard, delete it and reboot your phone.
I'm also having the same issue when I upgraded to 4.0.4
I recall seeing the ".nomedia" file but after I rooted my phone I can't find it anymore. If I move my media files to my externalSD it works but unfortunately 2GB just isn't enough to hold my movies, music, and pictures.
Edit: I've located several .nomedia files on the phone. I've deleted them and rebooted my phone. Still not fixed.

Exactly the same problem. Started with a stock G'Nex with 4.0.4 installed (flashed everything back to factory and locked the boot loader), waited for the OTA update to 4.1.1, updated then transferred some music files up to /sdcard/music and then.... nothing, no music found by Play Music/Rocket Player/MixZing/whatever....
The only .nomedia file I can find in the /sdcard are in /sdcard/android/data. Deleting that plus clearing data in media storage followed by a reboot does nothing.
Looking for clues!.....

Try this. Connect it to your computer then use search to find all nomedia files. Reboot see if its fixed. If not then use kies to copy from internal SD to external then back to internal. A bit of a pain but after that its fine and dandy

Went to play some music this morning and it's all "gone", and checked gallery for images and it's the same. A solution would be great. I've been using this rom for ages and haven't changed anything?
I installed ROM Manager from the marketplace. I downloaded the Avatar ROM and HONO Rom and put them on my SD Card. In ROM Manager it shows the ROMs on the SD Card, but when I boot to recovery and try to install them it says no ROMs found. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks

Hi,
I am still a beginner with all this rooting stuff but i'm having a problem updating from cm 10 to cm 10.1, I try the OTA update and I clear the data catch etc in cwm then flash it and then Gapps and when I get back to my phone it can't 'find' my folders in sdcard0 it basically just disappears as it moves it from /storage/sdcard0 to something like /mnt/legacy and I was wondering if I am doing something wrong or?
sorry if I didn't make sense if you need any more info just ask... as I said i'm still a beginner
Thank you very much for any help

Ok, this is from the ProBam thread, posted by Deliberate:
Cm based ROMs will target the sdcard storage to use root/0/directory.
Normally all files besides the root/0/ directory will not be shown in a file explorer.
To solve this, you need a file browser that has root capability, like root explorer.
Then, go to mnt/shell/emulated, and all your files should be there.
Now, you can move all the files into mnt/shell/emulated/0/ folder and should solve the issue.
