How to compile and decompile apk

Hello guys,
I wana know how to make a apk after we extract and edit it, i think in short form how to compile and decompile apk. Please anyone who can explain clearly and is ther any tool for that..

You have to sign it with the same signature keys as the phone's framework.

if you just want to change icon or the picture, the easiest way is by open the apk file via 7zip then copy the files into it. its also work if you change some of the script. just put the scipt back to folder. I've used this method to modify systemUI.apk and framework-res.apk. it works fine for me.

Could someone please modify this apk res/layout/statusbar.xml, to delete the clock in the status bar (just a the right of the battery icon )

What line(s) in statusbar.xml need changed?

its the one with clock, only one line has the word "clock"

I just deleted the lines for the clock in that xml. I obviously didn't test it, so make sure you know how to recover if it doesn't work. The .zip that is attached is NOT flashable. I also put a working 4.2.x apktool in there with instructions for you to do it yourself if you want to in the future. It's pretty easy to do if you have a working apktool (I compiled this one from paulobrein's github since he edited the source to be compatible with 4.2).

the strange thing is that the file goes from 1.5 mb to 1.12mb just by deleting one line

The size change might just because the zip is compressed more or less. It doesn't always mean anything is wrong. You can decompile it again and compare the contents with the original to make sure everything is there. Do you know how that mod is usually made? Is deleting the lines the correct way?

Have tried the edit myself,with SystemUI, dont sign it, open the original and copy META-INF and androidmanifest.xml over to your new file,let me know if it worked.
Just rename to SystemUI.apk and push to system/app and reboot

1. How to get custom statusbar?
To replace your statusbar with a custom .png go to:
SystemUI.apk/res/values/drawables.xml search this line

now place statusbar.png file in drawable folder then recompile.

3. How to delete text under toggles?
This is hardest part cuz Lidroid is 'different'. First, follow this to succesfully decompile it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31991217&postcount=1
After that, go to: res\layout\power_widget_button.xml
Add this: visibility="gone" to TextView and it should be gone now!
You can also delete the text WiFi, Bluetooth, Silent, etc. in the strings.xml in values folder!
4. How to modify framework?
Just replace .pngs in your drawable-res-hdpi folder!
This will change all system actions, like pop-up look, buttons look, and alot more!
5. How to change background in settings / dialer?
Remember: You CANT change for dialer AND settings it can only be done for both. Go to framework-res.apk > res > drawable-nodpi > tw_dialog_bg [kind of this]
And replace with SAME format and same name! now you hav this bg in file manager, settings, an much more!
6. How to change grid size of touchwiz launcher?

7. Change icon of system apps [dont work with market ones]
Go to the apk and look for the icon, just extract the folders and you'll see it. Replace it with an icon-pack from this thread: clik
So no need to decompile and after this just push back to sysem/app dont forget to set perm.
8. Custom bootanimation on stock based kernels [speedmod]?
So, we love the stability and battery of speedmod kernel. But also get rid of the boring samsung boot. The steps:
Your bootanimation MUST HAVE FINITE REPEAT VALUES, otherwise you will be stucked in a beautiful boot loop.
*What is this?
Open your zip and see the txt file. The number after all "p" must be HIGHER than 0. It means how many times this part will repeat, and 0 is infinite
1- Pick your desired bootanimation.zip and make two clones. Rename them to ODEAnim.zip and sanim.zip
3- Move the three zip files to /system/media
4- Go to /system/bin. Backup and delete the file samsungani. Rename the file bootanimation (this file you find in this folder; it ISNT your zip file) to samsungani.
5- Reboot
Error guides
* By theming you ll always run into problems. Like bootloops. Mostly its with framework-res.apk. If you get bootloop try this: click And if your system suddendly reboots after replacing framework-res its normal, just wait and reboot one more time. You can also try wipe cache and dalvik! But it isnt normal when u got statusbar fc then you have recompile errors or did sth wrong.
* When you try to push files back after theming and your file manager says: cannot paste. That means you havent enough space in your /system partition. Deleting useless [system] apps and 'tts' folder can free up alot! U can also buy micro SD and with TB move apps2sd

After that, move folder meta-inf and manifest from ORIGINAL to your new.apk. Otherwise you get weird errors and bootloop. Happy theming!

Softkeys installation

Hello Guys,
I want to change the softkeys on my nexus 4.
I have did it before in older android versions and it worked great.
Intresting enough,
On kitkat I'm having trouble changing the softkeys.
After updating Edify successfully
I can't seem to load the softkeys zip file.
It says:
SKIPPED://system/app/SystemUIapk was not found
WARNING: update.zip would be empty -- not creating one!
I've changed the xml path as follows:
from:
<path>/system/app/</path>
to:
<path>/system/priv-app/</path>
according to the next thread:

and then he says:
can't find control file ...
Guys please advise,

I'm the OP of the thread you linked, and if you tried to change the xml, you certainly saw the latest messages.. Another member had the same problem and I just changed the xml file, it worked good, are you sure you've done it correctly (I'm not insulting you but, you know...)

After the change I've compiled the xml and the folder together to a new zip file.
In my nexus 4,
I downloaded ZipThemer
Downloaded the newest CM rom and transfered it to my phone.
Inside ZipThemer I've updated the edify using the CM rom file
and the output was success.

So you are under CM? Which version and also, are you sure the systemUi file is in priv-app?

systemui.apk is located at system/priv-app/
while framework-res.apk is located at system/framework/
give me this 2 apk of yours. I'll try do a flashable zip for you later

In fact you must update edify with the zip from the rom you are currently using... I don't know the vanilla rom, in what is it special?

It's not a rom,
It's the stock android that we have on nexus devices ...
What you get from system update through the phone
Over the air android.

Oh I thought the vanilla was the name of a special rom...
Anyway, try the attached file. But make a full non-droit backup, we don't always know what happens...

Hello people !
Many people asked, how i can get Xperia X animation on my
Xperia device running on MM, Well Here is the guide howto modify
it to get that pretty fluid and nice animation.
What it do:
When you locked your phone, and you unlock it
with the lockscreen, the animation goes not up but
from right to the left and your homescreen get opened.
What you need:
Apktool
Framework-res.apk
7zip
Brains
Howto do it:
Decompile your Framework-res.apk
Download the attachment
Open the zip with 7zip
Open Res/Anim
Select all the files
Open your decompiled Framework-res.apk
Go to Res/Anim
Copy the selected files from my zip
Into your Anim folder
Replace? Yes
Copy integers.xml from my zip
Into Res/values folder
Replace ? Yes
Compile and sign
Make A Flashable zip
Flash it
Done

i dont have much knowledge of apk modifying .... i tried apktool and i cant even decompile files....

Actually you no need to decompile it, just change the .apk to .zip.
The only thing to do is push the OP files into the ".zip".
After that rename .zip to .apk, and push to system.
You're done.

sorry to bother you again @Pandemic I've just noticed all animations are very smoooth,but i found a small bug with the three-dot-menu animation...this animation is slow. I attached a screenshot so you will know which animation im talking about

1.Take the final compiled apk and install it as framework
2.Recompile and push to phone
