Almost Project Butter on ICS for Tmobile Galaxy S3 - H2 Stock Firmware only as its what's been tested.
This is an attempt to speed up our GS3 faster than stock and somewhat close to JB and provide odex benefits to both system and data without having to Odex .I have been running this for 48 hours and wow.
Just follow the steps below. Any feedback is appreciated.
The dalvik dexopt flag change were found through research of android and the internet. Below is the procedure to get some serious butter melted from our Gs3 along with a smooth ride.
NANDROID-BACK UP- YOU HAVE WARNED
Step 1: Back up current build.prop
Step 2: Open current build.prop with a root explorer, any will do.
Step 3: copy and paste the lines below to the bottom of your build.prop
Step 4: comment out with # any existing lines that contain dalvik.vm.dexopt or windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec
Step 5: Save your build.prop make sure permissions are set correctly 0644
Step 6: reboot into reocvery and wipe dalvik cache(this is extremely important)
Step 7: reboot, dalvik cache will rebuild
Step 8: Enjoy the buttery smooth gs3
Code:
#Odex Tweaks
dalvik.vm.verify-bytecode=false
dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=v=n,o=v,m=y
#UI Tweaks
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=300
ro.kernel.android.checkjni=0
ro.kernel.checkjni=0
ro.max.fling_velocity=12000
ro.min.fling_velocity=8000
persist.sys.ui.hw=1
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=1

Your welcome, I was wondering the same thing when I did it and was testing before posting. I'm happy to report I got great battery life. Goes into deep sleep quickly. Download cpu spy from play market to verify.
I am going to see about modifying a script from the g2x to run on our phones and quantify if it presents any benefit.

Awesome, is there a slight rundown of what this has to offer over stock?
well, it may or may not be faster/more battery life. its a test kernel to find build method and make sure things are going to work before putting 1000s of lines of code changes in
Sounds good. Flashing now, will test as much as I can.
Will test also thanks

So far it seems to be running well. Run Quadrant and it is using Eco mode as my scores varied by 2000. Don't care about scores just the feel.
The governor is ondemand and uses 1134 alot more. Which is nice not seeing 1512 mostly so battery should be better.
Do have a question though. Do you want us to test different governors? If so, what's the preferred program?
Thanks joker!! It's great to finally have a kernel to play with!!
edit. Decided to use Set CPU. Seems to be working fine. I take that back about using 1134. Guess it just happened to be the speed of choice by what I was running. Still mostly 384 and 1512. And of course Deep sleep
This has worked fine in my testing Bluetooth steaming and calls work without issue. Camera works so does WiFi. I still see the msm host wake lock but it's not that high. Got 20 thousand in antutu so it seems to work without issue.

I didnt do anything to the govenors on this release. This is mainly a basic kernel close to stock with a couple tweaks.

It won't get rid of wake locks. They do have a purpose, but it should reduce them. Hopefully

The gpu/avp/mem/cpu/etc etc will be underclocked and undervolted. sort of a "hey we have way way to much phone and everything is designed for slower crap anyways so lets also go slow" kinda kernel

First off I would like to say no disrespect to others who have had scripts for overclocking the GPU for 3D and 2D graphics. After thoroughly dissecting the phone the 2D graphics never really get overclocked. If you check sys/devices/platform/kgsl0 or kgsl1 gpuclk files both will always say 200000000 the minimum. So the 2D part 228751000 from other scripts never really works. I found a way to keep it at max all the time 3D at 320000000 and 2D at 228751000 using int.d script . So for anybody who wants the GPU-OC script that really works try it out. Just flash and reboot that's it 2D will stay at 228751000 and 3D will stay at 320000000 at all times. Runs like a champ on my phone. You be the judge if you works for you or not.

I was just sitting here thinking that my battery had been draining much faster lately. Trying to connect the dots. Then I realized that I started noticing the decrease about the time I flashed this GPU over clock. So, hascanyone else noticed this? Also my phone gets hot as Sh*t while playing Dead Trigger... What are your thoughts? I have a 3800Mah battery. Running ASDEVS Galaxy S Bean v10.5 and hot cakez kernel. Slightly over clocked cpu but it always has been with no noticeable difference until recently..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Anything that overclocks... whether it be your processor or your gpu will get hotter because it takes more voltage which causes more heat. I just flashed this to check it out, but I would imagine the battery life is going to decrease since the clock speeds are going up. Speed comes at a price.
Just an update. I uninstalled the script and battery lasted about twice as long. Phone didn't burn my hand during Dead Trigger either.

So far I think staying stock is just as good as running a developed kernel for this particular ROM imho, especially when you want to get the most battery. I use SetCPu and will run min 486 and Max 1350/1404. SmartassV2 and Zen or cfq governors. I don't play many games on my phone, I have tablets for that and they are tweaked as high as I can go and be stable. It's all about what you use your phone for, most times when I benchmark it seems the higher frequency I push my score actually will get worse, might be I'm need to up my voltage, but I don't mess with voltages much. I will follow the developers guidelines for undervolting if I'm trying to squeeze that extra life, but I don't worry about it that much. Best way for me to extend my battery life is start turning things off when they're not needed. All the things I try with my devices I have learned by reading on the XDA forums, and by far the developers for our GS3's are the best and I'm very thankful for all they give up to give us these awesome roms, kernels, and not forgetting about the theme developers to make or phones run fast, operate smoothly, and look great. Without them might as well buy a fruit product, just kidding I would get a flip phone before I would do that. .... My phone drains 0.2-0.3% per hour on the stock kernel (on wifi with a decent router). The TW custom kernels are not worth using, in my opinion. Now AOSP on the other hand... yikes. Pretty much have to use them.

I'm on project goosh with ktoonz kernel and battery is great. Again it's all about usage stuff like syncing should be off, apps updating every few hours should be off or prolonged just the little things.

My phone drains 0.2-0.3% per hour on the stock kernel (on wifi with a decent router). The TW custom kernels are not worth using, in my opinion. Now AOSP on the other hand... yikes. Pretty much have to use them.

You might want to take a look at your wake locks. If you are having that drain while the screen is off, it most likely a wake lock. Search the forums for better battery stats.

Your_rom by red is my favorite touchwiz rom. And it gives me the best battery for touchwiz. I use kinetic pulse kernel with it.

I'm running HyperDrive Rom and Ktoonsez Kernel. I have tweaked much of the cpu frequencies and used the ktoon governor. However, my battery life compared to the stock rom isn't that great.
Every phone is different so will run different on your phone. I do recommend Dandroid. It now has wifi calling. Complete based on T999. It used to be a port. It's super smooth with great battery life. And it's Cyanogenmod themed.

There are no "best" rom/kernel combinations for battery. It varies from phone to phone. You could try testing different TouchWiz roms and kernels, but remember to make a nandroid before doing so. Some roms you could try are wicked, stockorama, hyperdrive, etc. For the kernels you should use the stock kernel for stability or ktoonsez.
