Hi
I recently purchased a samsung galaxy s3 from craigslist and I'm having issues getting it working. When I put in my SIM, I get a message that says, "ME returned a temporary error". Then the LTE indicator drops and I can only make emergency calls.
I've used a different SIM and it still doesn't work; but that same SIM will work in another phone, so I know it's not a SIM issue. I already tried to do a factor reset with no luck. TELUS repair wasn't too much help either.. they basically said, they don't know.
The more research I do, the more I'm thinking it was a stolen phone and the IMEI is black listed.
Can anyone offer any suggestions/tips?
Thanks in advance!
I would check to see if your imei number shows up in your setting menue. Could be a corupted imei number or it has been blacklisted by telus.

Yeah the imei shows up in the settings menu.
By the number of replies, I guess I'm hooped?
If the IMEI was blacklisted, Telus would know about it and let you know.. Unless you just got an unhelpful CSR.
Are you 100% sure it's a Telus phone or unlocked?
Also make sure your APN settings are correct:

Also make sure 'Network Mode' is set to GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto Mode)
Dial *#2263# and make sure it's set to Automatic.
Also try installing the 'Phone Info' app and make sure it's set to LTE/GSM (Auto).
If all fails, boot into recovery mode and do a full wipe.
To get into recovery turn phone off, hold Volume Up + Home + Power. I have to let go of power as soon as the Samsung screen shows (it will have some blue writing at the top if you did it properly.
Thanks for the response.
I'm pretty sure it's a Telus phone. If not, when I put in the Telus SIM, would I not get prompted to enter an unlock code?
I checked the Network Mode and it's set to Auto. But when I downloaded phone info, the option you mentioned wasn't available in the list.
By default "LTE/GSM/WCDMA" was selected.
Is there any difference between performing a wipe from recovery mode VS "Back up and reset" from the settings menu?
I did the backup and reset from the menu already and it did not fix the issue.
Thanks!

Hi guys!
I rooted my phone by flashing the xperia play firmware from the uk with a tutorial and everything is working PERFECT except for I'm stuck on EDGE (ew..)
Can someone who is a lot smarter than me help me out?
Plus 25 internet karma for anyone who helps
You need to add in the Rogers APNs.
you need
to manually add the apn data as well as messaging
Google Rogers apn and enter then in the fields in network settings
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
The APN settings are;
Name: Rogers
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Passowrd: Not set
MMSC: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
Authentication type: Not set
APN type: Not set
This is not working for me. I did a reset and added this APN but still no Data.
My phone can make calls but no internet.
Then you're doing it wrong. Try it again. It works fine. Also, make sure you select the Rogers APN after you've input it. (Don't just input the data, save it and then not click on the APN.)
It is the only one I have.
I put exactly what is in the above post.
Edit: I deleted it and started over. This time I left out the Proxy IP and it worked.
Hi, I'm in the United States, using AT&T on a telus branded galaxy s3
unlocked using the jelly bean unlocking trick...
trouble is, now it won't hold a call and will disconnect at random times
saying that i'm "out of network area"
It will reconnect to the network soon after (a second or two after my call disconnects)
but will repeatedly drop calls soon after...
I can't get a call going for more than a minute!
So I tried buying an unlock code from cellunlockers.net,
and got one.
But the problem is, I can't input the codes either...
It says connection error or invalid MMI code...
So i can't input any USSD codes...
So here are my questions:
What can I do to fix this issue?
Can I lock the phone again and undo the jelly bean unlock trick?
Thanks in advance!
I don't think it has anything to do with unlocking the phone, if your phone is locked you can't place a call. it has to do with the network you're on. Have you considered that you might actually be "out of network area"? Do you have the proper apn settings?

So what can I do to fix this problem?
Should I try getting a new sim card?
Do you have the proper apn settings?
How long has this been happening?
What Rom are you on? Stock?
What version?
We need more info to be able to help.
I just went into APN settings and
clicked set as default... is that not what I should have done?

Did setting apn as default Help? Try making a phone call.
I'm currently on stock rooted 4.1.1,
and this problem has been happening for
the month and a half or so i've had an AT&T sim card
in my galaxy s3...
Under APN settings, there's only one APN,
Cingular 410
You need to add the proper APN for AT&T. Just search for att apns and you'll find them here on XDA.

Ok. So it seems as though you are not giving enough information for anyone to efficiently be able to help you. Please provide as much info as possible. You said you are on AT&T (Not the gophone plan). You need to find out what APNs that the gophone SIM uses so that you can enter those in the APN Settings.
I found apns that allow for data, but it's the default one
that kept cutting my voice... is there no apn that consolidates
the two into one?

You just told me you are on gophone? What are you on? A gophone plan or an AT&T plan? Like I stated before you need the APN settings for the type of plan you have. Try these for GOPHONE. You need to make two APNs and delete all other apns!!!
1st APN

APN: wap.cingular

Password: CINGULAR1

2nd APN

It's still dropping calls! T.T
Are there any other APNs I can use or is there a way to input the unlock code
via a ussd code on this version of the galaxy s3? I think it might be a bad unlock...
or at least that's what the telus live chat support agent told me

is your IMEI intact? Dial *#06# and tell me if it's the same IMEI as the back of the battery or it's 0.
Good day!!! well this problem has been driving me crazy for the past 6-7 hours. i bought an unlocked tmobile s3 and i'm trying to get data(4g) on this phone with straight talk. calling and texting work fine but data is a no go.
I have litterally tried over 10 diferent apn combinations found online, provided by stratight talk rep and this website and none have worked. with most of them i get the small 4g label to light up next to my signal strenghth implying that my phone is connected to data, but when ever i try looking for somenthing with the browser or the playstore it says i have no internet connection or it redirects me to a website
here are some of the apn combinations i've tried:
NAME:STRAIGHT_TALK
APN:wap.tracfone
PORT:8080
MMS_APN:wap.tracfone
MMSC: ttp://mms.tracfone.com (H at the beggining)
NAME:STRAIGHT TALK
APN:wap.tracfone
PORT:8080
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.40
MMSC: blank
NAME:STRAIGHT TALK
APN:wap.tracfone
Proxy: 216.155.165.40
PORT:8080
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.40
MMSC: blank
I'm starting to think that the permanent APN settings for tmobile, which i can't remove, are maybe causing conflict with straightalk's apn settings despite the fact my phone stays on straightalk apn settings.
please someone help me, i'm about to smash the phone and move on.
Try:
Name: StraightTalk T-Mobile
APN: wap.tracfone
Port: 8080
MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN type: default,supl, mms

you do this by making sure the green dot, the straightalk apn is selected correct? if so it is and still not working.
I assume you are able to make and receive calls just fine. Silly question but I assume, your Straight Talk account is all set for data and what not ?
EDIT - What baseband do you have right now ?

yep i'm able to receive and make calls just fine and data is also configured. my baseband is 800/1900 i believe...
Baseband is not the operating frequency. Its the text you see when you go to Settings > About>Baseband. Please provide that value
Have you confirmed with Straight talk that your account is configured correctly for data and the sim is a newer sim ? Also try the sim in some other phone to see if you get data there.
a couple of questions:
1. thought i would take a look around in the "edit access point" settings but when i i tried to back out of it i got the the message "the name field cannot be empty" and the prompt "exit / ok". if i select "ok" it keeps me on the screen, if i select "exit" it i'm taken to the previous screen. why am i getting the "name field..." message? did i accidentally make a chance? or is the "name field..." message normal even if no changes are made?
2. thinking that i must have made a change, i t decided to use the "reset to default" apn menu option. well this ended up deleting the "T-Mobile US LTE" apn that was listed before i hit reset - it was listed along with one other apn, "T-Mobile US". but after taking a look at the "T-Mobile US" apn settings, they appear to be identical to the "T-Mobile US LTE" apn settings. so do i need to add back the lte apn? do all t-mobile s4 phones typically have both apn's? and finally, did i mess up the modem i flashed by hitting "reset to default"?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
I believe, you could manually add the APNs back, or you could just reflash whatever rom you were running. Messing about with unknown things is the number one reason it's always a good idea to have a backup handy.
I'm a little confused on what happened, but I would just add in the APN manually. This is the one I always use when putting it in. I don't think you need the non-LTE APN, as the list seems to show only one being used on my phone (I have a Verizon APN on my phone too because of the ROM I'm using). Modem should be fine I think.

ha ha i've become an apn expert in the last couple of days in terms of editing and/or manually adding them thinking that i might have a problem! but as it turned out i didn't have an apn problem after all, if you choose "add (+) " apn and then back out you will get the message i mentioned "the name field cannot be empty"... instead of backing out you have to select menu then "discard" which will take you back to the previous screen without an error.
but since you have been kind enough to respond, maybe you can help me with something else, i've started a thread but haven't received a response yet. are you able to send mms messages with wi-fi calling enabled? i'm not, i have to disable it if i want to send mms messages. the reason is wifi calling turns off the data network. i can send texts, but i can't send them to email addresses nor can i attach photos or videos - mms has to be sent over the data network. this is a problem for me because i live in an area with poor coverage, i need the wi-fi calling to make calls, and when i turn it off and try to send mms it's far too slow because of my signal strength. is there a mod, hack or workaround that would allow me to send mms over wi-fi rather than mobile data? what would be great is a web-based mms solution which would handle mms on the web, bypassing my phones limitations. here's my post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/general/wifi-calling-mms-t2828096
Flashed pie to my Verizon note 8 that is unlocked, switched over to straight talk, but my MMS wont work. When I went to apn settings, it came up with a bunch of Verizon settings, no straight talk settings, even told them to reset the apn settings on the phone for me, still didn't work. Now if I reset network settings it deletes the straight talk settings and back to stock settings with only Verizon settings.....I'm tired of not being able to send pic messages
