I installed MIUI for the first time in my EVO, and everything works great, but whenever I tap WiFi. It begins to enable, lingers for a minute and then eventually gives up. I can't enable WiFi.
Help Please.
Why are you double posting this?

Wifi should be working for this version but if not, try going into your Settings and disable all of Network and Broadcast options, then reboot and re-enable everything. You can also try to reboot first into recovery, and reboot back into the phone afterwards, reenabling the Network and Broadcast options.

Whenever I have issues with a ROM, my first step is to go into recovery and clear the cache and dalvik cache and then fix permissions. After that if it still isn't working correctly, I return to recovery and wipe everything several times and then re-install the ROM.
You may get better response for your specific issue by posting it in the thread dedicated to the ROM you're using.
Well it depends if you are running the jelly bean version, you should set your router encryption to wpa/wpa2 per op

I have flashed two different AOSP roms (evo deck, and savage-mod). Everytime I get them up and running I am having the same issues with them. My 4G has trouble toggling on and off. It will boot up on, but as soon as I turn it off and turn it back on it gives me an error. Same with the built in hotspot. Also tried using the wireless tether app from the market and when I start tethering it just sits there. Once I hit the back button and start again it says "tethering has started with errors..check log" Everything else seems fine. GPS works, mms, 3g speeds are fast. I just don't understand. I have ran AOSP roms before with no issues. I'm flashing using CWM and doing three wipes each of factory data, cache, and dalvik. Then running a superwipe before flashing rom. Any help????

Y dont you just use the built in hotspot aosp roms come with?
I have tried that. It says "error" as soon as I try to activate it. It's like it intially works sometimes right after reboot, but then breaks after I turn it off and try to activate it again. And I prefer the app because you can tether 4g from it
Edit: So I flashed the newest tiamat kernal 4.08 and it seems to have helped with the 4g, and the built in hotspot. The 4g icon does not turn green, but it is in the status bar and speed test show its on. The only thing not working is the tethering app.
Hello everyone,
I have installed ICS AOSP Vision Beta8r4 (BTW great ROM), but when turning on wifi my phone doesn't find any network. It should show around 5 networks including my home network. I know that in this rom wifi is working. I also faced with the same problem using andromadus.
I guess problem is in my phone, not in rom.
Please help me to solve it.
Thanks.
Have you tried any other (non ICS) ROMs to see if WiFi still works? Did it ever work with an ICS ROM? Have you tried Taz's Desire S port? I'm pretty sure most recent build has working WiFi. Also are you full FULL wiping? Boot, System, Data, Cache, Dalvik Cache, the works?

Dear devs, I have installed ICS B9R1 and still wifi doesn't work (no networks), please give some sugestions.

This is a VERY peculiar problem... Are you sure you are waiting long enough? Because I did notice that it took awhile to turn on... You could try throwing the g2+wipe or whatever it's called, other than that though... this seems a very odd problem.
I will try to think of what else could be causing it but I imagine you will in fact require a dev for it since my knowledge is not extensive enough on the subject :/

thanks. maybe I am doing something wrong when installing rom (wipe is not full). may you give me link for full wipe instruction?
I'm having exact same problem, most of ICS roms have no wifi working, in last Virtuous Quattro Beta same problem. When i turn it on it sees no networks, on the last build after some wipe reinstall circles i was able to scan for wifi networks, but it never did connect. It's so sad that i cant fully move to ICS because wifi is absolutely must have for me. I wonder if someone could help us

Wifi problem is region based and some devs of other devices already making fixes
This script fix helped me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403801
Sure it helps u too and let's hope devs we'll get it fixed in desire z roms
I bought this phone used from eBay and it worked fine for about a month.
Then the Wi-Fi stopped working. as you can see in the pictures, the wifi button (slider) is disabled/grayed out and if you go into the menu, it is stuck on "Turning wi-fi on".
I've tried everything from downgrading to 2.3.6 GB (currently on official ICS 4.0.4 through Kies) to installing Cyanogen mod ROM but it wont work. rooted then unrooted. everything else works great.
Any help would be appreciated.
I've attached screen shots to this post.
Thanks.

Yup. I did. I have other devices on home wifi that have no problems connecting. In addition i have tried at starbucks and work wifi. Still no go.
The WiFi on the Galaxy S2 wont even turn on to recognize/select networks (SSIDs) to connect to. As you can see in the pics, the Wifi ON/OFF button is grayed out/disabled.
Did you try flashing a different radio since the issue started? If not I would try it, maybe downgrade the radio to UVLI1 or even try re-flashing the same radio. I know I had this issue once before but fixed it somehow, I think it was just a reboot for me but if you tried all of what you said in the OP you would have rebooted a few times.
Did you use Odin to flash back to stock? If not, give it a try with a full wipe.
Although i have not tried to mess with Radio (noob here, not sure i wont mess that up), I did Odin the phone back to stock ROM with no luck.

Ah Ok. There you go then. and i tried with a couple of TMO stock ROMS (starting with GB 2.3.6). so obviously that hasnt worked. Thanks.
i found a possible fix, that worked for me. Go into your recovery, i did it with TWRP (latest one) and advanced and fix permissions, than i rebooted and worked! Give it a try.

To avoid any future hassles I contacted the seller and he agreed to take it back for a full refund, so i guess i'll never know what happened. Thanks for your help everyone.
I know this thread is nearly a year old, but I had this problem and figured out a fix that worked for me so I know its still relevant.
My fix was:
- reboot into latest cwm recovery (v6.0.4.3 touch for me)
- click "mounts and storage"
-click "unmount /cache"
-reboot
So far it has worked every time and wifi screw ups have happened rarely ever since. Hope this late post helps at least one person who was as frustrated as me!

My WIFI is off, and if I hit turn on, it got stuck on turn on. But if I were to back out and go back in, it would be on off again.
I'm using Kitkat
After awhile all i had to do to fix it was turn airplane mode on and off. But just the other day, I was flying so had my phone in airplane mode and now that won't fix it and neither will my original fix :crying:
I have the same problem
It was working fine stopped and did everything and still not working,
First, I've had this issue since Build 6.8. I was hoping a Clean Install using Philz Touch Recovery v6.48.4, which is the latest, and selected Wipe Data and select Clean to install new ROM which Formats /data, /cache, /system. I also wiped Dalvik.
Once completed I did the following:
Clean Install of Slim-d2lte-4.4.4.build.7.0-OFFICIAL-5979
I then installed
Slim_full_gapps.BETA.4.4.4.build.7.x-190
Rebooted and waited for SlimKat to boot-up. WiFi/Data both full scale. Everything Restored just fine and things are running smooth.
Then after running a few errands outside of WiFi Range, I returned home within WiFi range only to find out that WiFi had not reconnected. It tells a WiFi connection is available but will not reconnect to it. So I go into Setting and select WiFi and tried to manually reconnect. It says connecting and then goes back to Saved Connection without connecting. This same thing on other WiFi connections such as McDonald's or other open WiFi Connections.
I then do a re-boot and everything is back to normal. WiFi connects without issue and again things are fine and running smooth.
Every time I leave WiFi range and then return within WiFi range, the problem re-occurs. A Re-Boot and everything back to normal.
One thing I've always noticed when doing a Clean Install as stated above, all of my previously stored WiFi connection are still there. Same on Ringtone/Notification Tones.
With the problem I'm having, could it be something that is not being wiped/cleared out during the Clean Install process. Or wondering if it could be somehow that the WiFi Radio has gotten corrupted.
I have also tried different Kernels but again the result is the same.
Hope this is not too much of a noob question and I have searched about everything I can think of. Wondering if anyone has had this problem or have any ideas of what could cause the problem.
I really hope I can get this figured out. Thanks
If you don't have to manually reconnect and enter your password, then its not being wiped. (Or you are restoring it from a backup.) Have you tested it after the clean flash, but before restoring anything? What are you restoring and how?
It sounds like a Rom issue otherwise and you should probably ask in the rom thread.

First I don't know what I've missed wiping. When I say restoring, I'm referring to letting Google re-downloading everything from the Play Store.
I know the WiFi radio are in a different location but like you, when I do a Clean Install by formatting /data /cache /system and wiping dalvik, I wasn't expecting all the stored WiFi connections to still be there, but they are.
Its possible its being restored by Google's backup, but I don't use it myself so I'm not certain about that. Its also possible the rom may save the config file elsewhere. Again though, I don't use cm/aosp based roms so I'm not too familiar with any of their specifics.
Next time you try a clean flash, do not sign into google during setup. Instead go straight to testing wifi to see if it still remembers the connections. Do you have it set to auto connect to any open networks? If so you might want to turn that off.
Have you searched or asked in the roms thread yet? It might be a known issue or something a few others have encountered and know how to fix.

Ya I don't sign into Google at the initial start up after the flash because my WiFi is no able to connect. I will double check the auto connect feature. But I having this issue with other 4.4.4 ROMs also because I tired however on those ones I am amvle to toggle WiFi on but in advanced it has the region set to Europe and when I switch it to Canada it doesn't want to save the change
Like i said at the title, after screen off about 5min, the phone go to deepsleep then i cant turn on the wifi again unless reboot. im in OOS 8.1 5.1.1, i have try to reinstall , clean flash again but it still happen, i dont think this problem from the rom or kernel. anyone can help me please?
its so annoying.:crying::crying::crying:
Same issue here when I have "wifi on only when plugged in"
I turned on scanning for wifi and that fixed the issue.

All very fine in my Op5t with 8.1 5.1.1
Do you have battery saving apps installed and are you running stock? I've got the same issue here. Deep sleep breaks wifi. When I turn the screen on (exiting deep sleep), I either need to wait long for it to connect, or sometimes just have to reboot to get it to connect at all. I've contacted support but I think this may take some time...
Same problem here. I reflashed 5.0.4 after a factory reset. It still happens. The ONLY thing that changed is I keep getting notified to update my os. There's a check box to automatically download over WiFi. Could this have screwed something up?
I've started having other strange problems like Chrome getting very laggy periodically, and have had to reboot more these past two weeks because of connectivity issues than I have in the entire time I've owned the phone.
My next step is to do a complete wipe off everything and start completely over, but I'm doubtful this will help.

This is the issue! If you switch the setting to "always on", there is no problem. So yeah I am having the same problem, very annoying. "wifi only on when plugged in" is broken, and then wifi settings keep crashing!

I upgraded to 5.1.1 after a wipe off everything (data, cache, system, sdcard, every check box available on TWRP) and it still has a problem.
Any suggestions on how to debug this?
