i am using nova launcher prime on my gs3 and am looking for an email application replacement that has an icon that will show the unread email count. The stock application because being used with a 3rd party launcher does not do this.
seems really odd to me that there is not may out there that do this.
ideally i would like to have an app like the htc email client that allows you to have shortcuts to individual accounts on the homescreen and these the will show unread counts for each account.
any suggestions?

Touchdown for Android
Nova launcher has "Unread Count" and works fine for me. Just change the setting to show unread count on stock email app.

I am using the SMS unread count widget and i like this app a lot. but i would prefer to launch either GO sms or handcent sms whenever i launch the app, instead of launching the stock SMS.
I've tried to clear default from stock SMS but there is still no option for me to select the program which i like to set as default.
any idea on this??
use go launcher ex and this get go launcher ex notifier, just seems like a very easy way to do what u want the way u say u would like it and it seems the 2 would compliment one another as well.

i want to know as well... i tried to clear the default app but strange thing is for stock Messaging "default" is greyed. so i can't even clear it..but i would like to open GoSms through sms unread count :s
Anyone? Use SMS Count to open Go SMS so we can get an SMS counter on Widgetlocker screen, but use Go SMS as primary SMS.
Bump
Having the exact same problem... Also tried Missed it, but the same thing happens...
Seems this widget has other issues if you read the reviews. I have handcent and it has its own widget that does basically the same thing I believe. Just shows the icon with a number of unread messages? I am betting Go SMS has its own widget too but wouldn't know as I don't use it.
True, I use Go SMS, and its widget, but I'd prefer SMS Unread Count for its ability to pick any icon... The Go SMS widget has a choice of three integrated icons which I'm not really fond of...
Are there e-mail apps that show a little "1" next to the icon when you have 1 new e-mail?
The default e-mail app doesn't seem to do this.
I've placed it in the dock. My textmessage icon however does show a 1 when I have a new text.
Launcher Pro dock does this, or add a SMS Unread Count widget.

Hm I'm using Launcherpro and like I said it does work for my texts but not for my e-mails. Do I have to turn it on somewhere?
Ah my bad, I was thinking Gmail not Email.
Enhanced Email from the market supposedly does it but it aint cheap !!
ADW
ADW launcher and then ADW notifier. Both work a treat for me.
From all the reading I have done, it appears that the unread count not showing on the gmail app is a known issue? When I get text messages, I see a "1" overlay on my messages icon. But not for Gmail. I did see an app in the play store that is "supposed" to fix this. Or would I be better served by flashing a custom rom. It seems pretty absurd to me that an OS made by google doesnt have overlays for Gmail.

I think that's a TouchWiz feature. And thats why it only works with the messages and built-in email app, etc.
I use Nova Prime, I think the pay version of most launchers includes that. But, I never found a free launcher that did it.

Nova might do it, if you install the tesla unread plugin, but I'm not sure. Picked up Prime when they had the $.25 sale and have loved it
Tried out nova prime with tesla unread plugin and it works decent. Without some app I don't know of a way to get the unread number on not stock apps.

When I have new emails in my Gmail account, there's a little icon in the notification bar. Ans when I swipe it down, it even shows me the titles of the emails. I know this doesn't solve ur problem, but it works for me.

I have the same thing. The notification bar just seems very crowded to me and I end up overlooking the notification. More of a personal problem than anything but would be a nice feature to have standard.

Hey Guys
Just wanted to know is there anyway to get the little bubble on top of the Gmail app? Similar to the Email app, it has a number displayed above it which tells you how many emails you have before going into the app, but Gmail lacks that for some reason.
Any ideas?
i'm using Tesla Unread, but it requires Nova Launcher or WidgetLocker.

Anyone have any issues with Nova? I tried installing it but every time I clicked on my gmail widget, the phone would revert back to touchwiz.
Is there anything more to it then search and install?
Seems like a ridiculous oversight. There is no widget for HTC's Sense Email app AND you can't install Google's email app from the playstore. The m8 shows up as not compatible. Also ridiculous.
I basically need an email app with a widget that shows you your messages and is scrollable, just like the Gmail app.
What have some of you found as the best solution?
