Install goo manager from the market. Once you open it and grant superuser permissions, hit menu and choose install openrecoveryscript. It'll download and install the latest twrp recovery. You should have no issues then.

[Q] CM9 Kang ROM

I'd like to give it a try, can it be updated through CWM or manually only?
CWM works fine
I have CWM on my stock phone now, why isn't the CM9 Kang ROM listed?
You have to manually download it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
or search for codeworkx
Just to be clear:
I will have to manually download the CM9 kang zip and manually flash it with CWM
But after that, can I simply use CWM to download new updates to flash?
What about when CM9 is actually released, will can I simply flash over the Kang or will have to 'start from scratch'?

I think you are a bit confused. You could use premium version of rom manager to download roms and then flash from your sdcard in CWM.
Or you can download the rom onto your computer, copy to phone and flash from CWM. You can't use CWM to download roms.

I always have with my Nook Color. I have the free ROM Manager on it. I can list all the ROMs available for it, download what I want and when it's done downloading, reboot directly into CWM to flash the update.
Or are CWM and ROM Manager separate entities?

Ah yeah, that's not what you said originally i think. Yeah you cans till do that. I don't do it that way but you can.
Rom manager is the app on your phone, CWM is the recovery you boot into. You can't download roms from the CWM recovery but you can from rom manager and do it as you have described.

OK, so once I have CM9 Kang running, can I use ROM Manager to download updates?
And once CM9 is released can I just update to the official version?

[Q] I have superuser installed on android 4.0.4 but I still can't get root access?

I rooted my phone at 4.0.2, then applied the update up to 4.0.4 and am still able to flash new versions of clockwork mod through rom manager... However, all my other apps won't be granted root access. In the superuser application, I'm running superuser v3.0.7(41) and my Su binary is at v3.0.3, for which there is an update available. However, when I try to apply the update, it tries to ask for root privileges and gets denied access... I tried reflashing su.zip through clockwork mod touch but I guess I may be flashing an outdated su.zip? Any insight into the matter would be greatly appreciated!
Same here
Same exact scenario, I went from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4, and even after a factory restore I cant seem to get root access for any app. I checked the bootloader, and I still am rooted.
Help appreciated for us both!
try this zip...flash in recovery

this worked for me....
if it doesn't clear superuser data first then try it again.

CWM Recovery is not working for me, and I cant flash it due to no permission for elevated commands although its rooted.
Clockwork recovery does not require root if it is already installed. If not, fastboot clockwork recovery.
I had the same issue and all you have to do is reroot the phone and all will be well then download and install ota rootkeeper for the future. The update breaks root but doesn't block it

Had this same problem earlier
I need help
I am having the same problem. I am a noob and it sucks cause I can't figure it out. I can't even go into recovery since I installed 4.0.4 someone please dumb it down so i can understand
Install busybox free, then install titanium backup free. Open busybox and click inatall. Then run
Titanium backup, it will ask you do you want it to configure root, accept this. please note After completing busybox steps reboot. Then after titanium backup steps reboot again
Did this help?
If not pm me and il see if i can help
I can't use any of my root apps. My SU isn't working. I'm pretty sure that's causing the problem. I tried updating the binary (I read that somewhere) but the process fails. Is there a way I can do it manually?

Do you have CWM installed yet?
If not...
I'd recommend simply starting from the top and using my guide.
But if you have CWM:
Just navigate to "Install Zip From SD Card"
"Choose Zip"
And find it.
Yes to install.
I tried going to clockworkmod recovery but I just get that error. Last night I went into recovery using the cmd on my computer. I tried flashing that same file but it just failed.

boot to clockworkmod manually, than flash the superuser zip from here http://www.box.com/s/jvcf196j7x8f8vrc9cyt (this does not require busybox, that why the other su zip was failing)
I can't go to recovery from my phone. When I try I just get the Droid with a red exclamation point. I'll have to do it from a computer. Only problem is that I'm at work. I'll see if I can get to one ASAP

That is the stock recovery that you're getting to.
Use my guide.
And navigate to the part about flashing a custom (CWM) recovery and flashing SU.
The SU in my post is updated to work for all users...the one you're using won't work on 4.0.4.

but i think the su zip in ur post, only work if there is busybox installed...and the stock rom doesn't have it...
this the updater-script of ur su.zip: run_program("/sbin/busybox"...
that work only on custom roms, that usually have busybox preinstalled
check the different syntax in the other su zip posted above, it doesn't require busybox

nope, he was getting a permissions error because rom manager didn't have root access, that was the issue there.
edit: re-read the post, yes, you might be right about busybox in stock recovery, although i believe cwm has a set of minimal busybox tools.
if manually booting into recovery by shutting down the phone, pressing power+vol up until Google screen appears, doesn't take him to cwm but to stock recovery, he doesn't even have cwm installed, which could very well be the case, since stock rom default behaviour overrides any existing recovery when flashing.

Quick question with ROM manager

I rooted my phone earlier today using Chainfire's CF auto root. Rooted and everything worked fine. So was looking around today and found some ROMs I want to try. I downloaded Rom Manager to make a backup, but every time I try to do a backup, it says need clockwork mod recovery.
I click install.
Then it brings me to something that says "Flash ClockworkMod Touch" under "Recovery".
But then under "Flash Clockworkmod Recovery" it says "Flash Clockworkmod Recovery"
Which do I click? I want this backup so I can flash roms safely.
I wouldntvuse rim manager, but I dont have another suggestion for ya.i woukd wait until smarter minds wake uo and install twrp asap.

The reason it says that is because there are two diff versions of cwm available. One is the regular version and the other "touch" version. The touch version cost money while the other version is free. Rom Manager will work to flash cwm. I helped test it for koush:thumbup: personally I prefer twrp but it really doesnt matter.
With that being said I wouldnt use rom manager for anything else other than flashing the recovery. Do all your rom flashing, backing up...ect in recovery manually. Cheers and good luck:beer:

I wouldn't use ROM manager for anything accept flashing a recovery as stated above. That being said I would highly recommend grabbing goo manager from the market and flashing twrp recovery. Once done, boot in recovery using goo manager or 3 button combo(volume up+power+home button). Make a backup manually in recovery.
Use Goo Manager. It will allow you to install TWRP, which is touch and free, and better the CWM IMO.

Okay, so I got GooManager.
I have no ROMs or anything but if I click "flash ROMs" and "Try to find one for me" it pulls something, but I don't know what.
Is that what I'm looking for?
Sorry, first time rooting/trying to flash.
No. Don't use it to flash ROMs or backups or anything like that. Just use it to flash twrp and boot in recovery. When in the app hit menu then install open script recovery. Let it install then choose the reboot recovery option. Now you can make a backup and flash ROMs manually in recovery.

Okay I backed it up.
Going to follow the steps to get CleanROM, but I have one last question. When uploading the CleanROM file to the phone, do I unzip it first, or leave it as is?
Leave it as is.

[Q] Newbe from Sprint

I just moved over from Sprint and got me a shiny new Note 2 from T-Mobile. I am looking into installing the Jedi ROM but want to make sure my bases are covered before I create a $700 paper weight.
I got the ODIN, autoroot, and Jedi ROM files downloaded and ready to go but I don't see any mention in the forums about CWM or any sort of recovery. Am I missing a critical step or do I have everything that I need?

Also, use this TWRP install method to check for available updates...
And, JIC...
No, CWM and TWRP files(backup's) aren't Cross-compatible
Yes, TWRP is just as reliable, if not more so, than CWM. So unless the Mod OP, your wanting to try out, suggests one custom recovery over the other, than I'd stick with TWRP

You can't flash roms using the stock recovery, only custom recoveries allow it... you'll need to install a custom recovery to install any custom roms

Either one is fine, but imo, twrp is much nice and the recent update has made it even better... you can download goo manager and install it from there.. just download goo manager from play store and hit the menu button and choose install open script recovery.. then boot straight into recovery and install the Rom of your choice... ( I say boot straight into recovery because I don't know how you rooted your phone and Samsung has a script that reinstalls the stock recovery when you reboot, so make sure you have a rim downloaded and ready to go before installing the recovery)

Nice! Thanks so much for ur help!
