[Kies] .tar Firmware Update file (Updated 29/3/2013) - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

This is for folks who don't want to wait around for kies firmware upgrade and prefer to use kies to update. The whole process on kies is slow and takes like more than 20 minutes or so. If you have slower internet then even more time. This is the .tar file which you can flash using ODIN. The file saved my data so it should save yours too. But backup stuff anyways. ODIN will be linked below. You will lose root if you are rooted. This is the official STOCK firmware. Don't get confused.
Use at your OWN risk.
File was in the appdata/temp folder. It disappears as soon as kies download finishes.
Its a torrent. Sorry, I have no hosts..

I just MD5'd the leak tar from Sextape with this tar from kies and they are identical. The leak has three files that this tar doesn't data.img, cache.img and param.lfs. So this is not any newer than the original leak. Once I can pull it apart I will run one last check to confirm every file inside is the same. But if they weren't the md5 wouldn't match so I can guarantee these are the same, with the exception of the 3 files mentioned.
cache.img - only in first folder
data.img - only in first folder
param.lfs - only in first folder
Found 3 differences and 7 identical files.

Not if it is a full tar. Open the tar and if you don't see cache or data images you are good. If you do see them use 7ZIP or something to delete them out. Delete both cache and data.

Good question.. Not too sure. Kies applied my update so not sure if kies preserved.my data or it was that file. But my stuff was saved which was just my wifi key. I had odin backed to el29, accepted ff18 ota and then used kies to go to fh13.

With Kies you can go from EL29 to FH13 directly. Doesn't matter if you are in Stock EK02/EL29/FF18 Kies will update you to FH13.

Kies update and EK02?

Today got a notification for updating KIES, I updated and when tried to update my phone, it failed ofocurse, because I am already on leaked EK02 modem, but does it mean EK02 is installed on my PC and can be extracted? I am not sure if this will help the devs but just posting the pic of what I see.
I have never used kies but search around that directory and see if you can find a tar or zip file. Would probably be the same zip as the its but worth a shot.

It is most likely the same update because if they issued a tar it would wipe all user data. Which I doubt they would do. But it is worth checking.

Go to thelink I posted. All the way right is a download column. Clck on the icon there.
You must be 100% stock to flash. Stock recovery, stock modem, stock build with no mods.
Flash from stock recovery, or Mobile Odin. NOT reg Odin.
Mobile Odin Pro is a very essy way to keep root.
Or use OTA rootkeeper. But if you factory resey during the process it may lose root regardless.
Also, remember this is untested by anyone here. And we have little info on it. Its most likely ok, but at your own risk and all!

It'll have to be stock recovery for it to even download to the phone I'm pretty sure.
Only a few options I can think of.
Get a stock VLALE6 recovery and install it.
Flash the stock FW and then update.
Or just flash the updated stock FW.
Has it already downloaded the ota?
It should be in /cache/fota/ if it has. It'll be update.zip.

You could also pull recovery.img from the FW re-tar it and flash with pc odin.

He can't use this FW. Its for the T999 but since he's on Videotron he will almost certainly have the model T999V.
It does not say what build either the FW or the Recovery are. I'm guessing they are both the original build UVALEM, but it really should specify.
Thanks anyway man.

How can I go back to stock rom when rooted?

Hi,
I have rooted my phone with fh13 several months ago....now, i want to just go back to stock factory settings and upgrade using OTA.
but, OTA update wont work - I believe I made the necessary changes to disable OTA update notification...could this be blocking out the OTA update option completely?
Right now, when I click on check for updates, my phone hangs...re-boots.
I want to put my phone to stock sprint rom with the latest available firmware...
how can i do this at this point ?

here is the seperated files so we can keep from updating the bootloader. so far i have noticed aside from kids mode and download booster that my phone running on att is picking up lte alot better in my home then b4. i use to have to lock the band to lte in my home to use it now it just keeps switching on its own like it should so i would say better signal. as for those who rooted 4.3 then injected root into 4.4 update using mobile odin you should be able to do the same thing with this update.
