I tried some AOSP JB ROMs and none syncs with my google account: none restores my Wi-Fi passwords and my settings and in the menu Settings-backup and restore-account of backup (I hope this is the right translation, my phone is in Italian) there isn't my google accounto, but "Backing up to debug-only private cache.
Why does this thing appen? With my old nexus s it wasn't like this!
Can I do something in order to make AOSP ROMs work like the OTA?
Also the Gallery doesn't sync with Picasa, but I solved this problem puting the gallery of the OTA in system/app.
I hope someone can help me!
Thanks to everyone!

Depending on the ROM you may have to flash a GAPPs package
I always flash gapps when nedded..
Am I the only one with these problems?
Hmm..
Gapps package you're using is not working?
Does this happen with yakju/takju official images?
Sent from my i9250
other gapps work fine, but my phone doesn't sync settings and Wi-Fi history, I always use the package provided by the developer....
according to the galley, i found out that the AOSP gallery (gallery4.apk o something like that) doesn't sync with picasa, but I don't know what about settings.
gmail, the play store, current.......every gapp works fine apart from settings sync.
The official image and the OTA are OK, they work good.

What exactly is Google Addons?
The market
Sent from my Vision using XDA Premium App
The Google Apps? You need them so you're apps function correctly, gmail, market, ect. Needed to be flashed up your first installation of a gingerbread rom. If you mean when you first boot up your phone, just extra apps you can install if you want.
The Google Apps addon is a flashable ZIP which contains the files for the Android Market, Google Talk, Google Sync, and other back-end files and libraries needed for Google applications from the Market, like those that allow for C2DM (push notifications).
They aren't included in CyanogenMod and other similar ROMs due to Google throwing a hissy fit back in CM4, saying that CM could be used to port those applications to devices which don't come with Google Apps, despite the fact that there are no such devices currently in development, let alone back then.
Ok so if I'm installing any AOSP ROM's then I need to install the Google Addon's as well. But this is not needed with any Sense ROM's. Thanks all!

Now you've got it.
Just updated to official JellyBean (Polish), although rooted and deoxed.
Now again the original Google calendar (with pinch zoom timeline) is gone.
Does anybody know where to get the AOSP Google calendar.apk and how to install it (I don't want to re-install all gapps as a bulk brute-force effort)?
Also, with 4.0.4 adding AOSP calendar.apk to SAmsung official TW rom resulted in double Calendar alerts: one from S Planner and another from AOSP calendar.apk. Is there a way to solve this?
Thanks for all the help (yes, I've tried searching, but haven't found a solution yet).
EDIT: have tried the following:
1) Attempt to install CalendarGoogle.apk (taken from original JB AOSP apk files thread) from internal sdcard (fails, even if "install from unknown sources" is enabled, result is: "Application not installed))
2. Copy calendargoogle.apk to /system/app/ and reset the permissions to proper state with Root Explorer & reboot & build Dalvik cache (app is nowhere to be accessed).

That's actually almost ICS 4.0 calendar, not the fully functional 4.1 Jelly Bean Calendar ("I had to disable a few new features from Jellybean that don't work on ICS" as the author says).
So close, but not quite the same.
I am running JB after all, not ICS.
Anybody have an idea how to get AOSP Google Calendar (full JB version) to run on TW JB builds?

I am planning to flash PA to my old Nexus 7 (Tilapia) without gapps. The idea is to find out whether an Android device can be decoupled from Google. And whether such a device can still be used in a normal day to day scenario for surfing, mail, contacts ...
There are many apps out there which could be used instead of the apps in the gapps package (i.e. play store => f-droid, mail => k-9, chrome => firefox, maps => navit / OsmAnd, ...). And with a simple raspberry pi and owncloud also some of the google services can be replaced by an self hosted solution.
What are your thoughts on this:
- Is this possible in principle with PA?
- What should I watch out for when setting up the N7?
- Any other suggestions?
Of course you can do it. The ROM is functional without gapps

I don't know what it is you should be watching out for when trying your experiment but I believe it can be done. You'll have to use a 3rd party app store to download the apps you want to replace the stock apps with (k-9, etc). But once you start doing that, what's the point?
To prove you don't need to use Google Branded apps? Just root your device, install Titanium and freeze all the google apps. Same thing, right?
Just flashed PA without gapps. Added some great Apps from f-droid. Everything works great. Next steps will be to Conect to a dropbox server.
Currently I am getting a notification that a new system update, a new gapps version is available. Can I somehow disable in PA the check for new gapp versions?
Thanks!

Thanks Pirateghost, just found it.
I am currently running into two issues:
I installed the "920 text editor" via f-droid. But when I try to start it the app it opens for a nearly a second and then a error window says >"920 Text Editor" wurde beendet.< (I am using a German system; translation something like >"920 Text Editor" was stopped.<). Is there a log file which could provide more information why this application was not able to start?
I paired my German bluetooth keyboard (QWERTZ layout) with the nexus. But unlike to stock Android in PA they keyboard is mapped with the American layout (QWERTY layout). So some keys are not inline with the labelling. I did not find a way to change the used layout in the settings. Any ideas?

I try Gmail and Calendar on my rooted Touchwiz based KK 4.4.2 rom, they work flawlessly.
I love them, especially the new Gmail that supports other emails. Now I can get rid of the stock Email app.

Could you give us quick tutorial how you made it work ? On my KK 4.4.2 rom it won't install when I put apks in priv-apps. I'm on Blekota 7.0.
Thanks.
I just installed them like normal APKs, over the existing versions, then rebooted. Just checked, both APK files are now in /data/app/.
I'm on QS-i9300-KK v2.8+ rom. Gmail and Calendar work fine.
I am looing for a rom that has blinkfeed and the google contacts, dialer and full gmail. Anyone know of a such a rom?
All stock Roms have blinkfeed... Almost all have zip to flash in order to get gpe dialer and contacts; insertcoin, skydragon... I am not sure by what you mean for full gmail?
WHere can I find the zip to flash to get google dialer and contacts? I have beean searching but cannot fine it. Gmail on HTC One M8 cannot do exchange for outlook accounts.
Somewhere in the forums is a working blinkfeed app for all ROMs and if I'm not mistaken the guy got it working on cm/aosp roms
I tried that before it was really buggy and I never got it to work
