GPS - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Hi everybody!
A friend of mine has a galaxy gio, and asked me if there's something that can be done about GPS.
I searched but couldn't find a thing.. he is on stock rom, i'd prefer not to change to custom rom if possible!
Thank you for your help!

sorry but i dont understand your problem...
is there any problem with gps?
Sorry for my bad englisch

Sorry for the unclear question.
I thought it was a common problem in Gio, but maybe I was wrong.
His GPS is very slow, he has to wait very long for it to lock, even on Google Maps.
Since for Galaxy ace there are several tricks and mods for the GPS to lock faster and be more precise i was asking for something similar here!
Sent from my Ace on Apocalypse Rom

Try an app called Fasterfix its for optimize the gps setting . But you have to root the phone :/

And also cases and covers decreases gps speed.

ICS for galaxy y: Probably we're going in the wrong direction????

Hello everyone, I'm associated with custom roms for sgy. Recently I met a person, who had successfully installed an sgy custom rom in galaxy ace. These two phones are more similar than we ever thought. So, why not the other way around??? Interested devs could actually modify ace ics roms and install it on y, instead of fiddling with galaxy mini????
Fantastic idea, I know, bit not improbable ...Coz I still have the Guy's pm ....

no one ever try that but similar method has been done a long time ago for cm7. all running cm7 for sgy is ported from ace. wifi dead, bluetooth dead, graphic buggy, etc.

you might be not aware the problem. here is the analogy. i have two notebook. both have x86 cpu, both have same lcd size and same resolution. my acer one use nvidia gpu and my asus one use ati. i can install windows 7 on both, but i need different set of driver to make both running without issue. and the problem not only for gpu, but almost for everything. the only one component where both can share same driver is cpu.
in phone world the situation event much worse. in pc world we have ibm-pc compatible. none in phone world. different type using different component and different soc. armv6 only cover cpu side. the other side completely different.

yes but drivers are available for your ati gpu, your soundcard..
it will be something like a 'Frankalaxy' yes, but it would definitly be a start!
btw people must be aware of this but anyway here is an article on freeyourandroid/guide/porting-android .com [remove the space pls]
maybe this could help.
and yes the galaxy ace is closer to galaxy y due to generation of production
i.e mini/gio are old phones while ace and y are in the same generation.
Would request someone to try...
I'm from a pure symbian background and still learning android dev so....
would love if someone could lead to me some heads up article

If it's new, just send it back and ask for a replacement. You shouldn't do anything out of the box

Your screenshot shows a non-stock battery icon. Did you recently flash a custom ROM? It might take a few charge cycles to get reliable battery stats.
yes
ihave this problem too!!!
when battry receive on 40% The battery will start to discharge
This may be a problem in the new version of android 4.1.1???
or
my battry is impaired
I have tested many stock ROMs such as 4.0.4 & 4.1.1 addition custom ROMs such as codename &.... but this not solved.

If you are sure that it is not a custom ROM that is causing this nor the hardware (including battery), my best bet is flashing a SuperWipe, which wipes EVERYTHING! If you are willing to do that, give it a try, but I can't recommend that this will work...
I have tried your solution but no change in my problem....
I'm very sad....

Well if super wipe doesn't work, it's most likely to be a problem with either a phone itself or the battery

Have you tried using different battery? Since super wipe did nothing, I would say it is either battery or the phone itself.
If using a different battery did nothing either, I hope you're under warranty, cuz I think it's a hardware problem

seriously buddy... you are begging for a flame war. If you didn't make it then it doesn't belong to development...
And besides that, your question is way too generic as it completely depends on your preferences. There is no best ROM.
Asylum rom is excellent in term of battery life + performance .. but its CM10.1 rom ... not normal samsung touchwiz rom .. so you miss some samsung features as a result.. and you will get many new features as well
In general, any light roms (100-400 mbs... not 1GB size roms) would go easy on battery
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
There is no "best" ROM since we all have different requirements. The "best" ROM is determined by you after trying a lot of them out.

[REQUEST] CRT OFF ANIMATION FOR S3 MINI, iS THAT POSSIBLE?

I know that developers of our phone are having such a hardtime creating custom rom for our phone without getting any in return. But do you think CRT off animation can be done on our phone? I think it will be great if it our mini phone can do that. I hope one day, we are able to do that on our phone

That is not what i was thinking of, but thank you for that hint.
We need someone that has the skills to mod the mentioned data at this thread, its for the SGS3 but maybe there is the same to do at our SGS3 MINI: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725361
Sorry but i'm not that skilled in such things otherwise i would test it for all...
there is a tut in gs3 thread... Here... it might be same for our mini too... dont know... if someones is interested they can try....
This is already done in CM10.1 which is released by Maclaw. Fcking awsome.

Hm- if someone like you, who is making ROM's doesn't even know how to do this - it must be impossible...
But there are some tuts for the S3 and other phones - then i thought it must be possible to do that for the S3 mini?
I'm not that skilled in doing such things, otherwise i would test it by my selfe.
Maybe someone that knows of modding ROMs, could have a look at the other tutorials and test if it works for our S3 MINI.

I guess 4.1 just doesn't have that option to begin with but it's not impossible.
I'd really love to see this effect on benz rom or dmod rom, i hope dariolob or benzonator improve their skills to reach that 'cause it's just a very cool effect personally I tried decompiling and recompiling the framework-res.apk but the only thing I got was a bootloop when restarting my phone and had to reflashed stock rom again so I failed in my chance

I am interested in 2.3.6 ROMs. I have been searching a lot for 2.3.6 ROMs but i didn't found.... If you will develop some ROMs... it will be good
I think many of us would like a firmware that is fast, responsive, fully working, no bugs and good battery life.
I honestly say I don't care what kind of android, windows, linux or any other name this software would be called or what version it would be. I would want it very much and will thank the creator each chance I had.
I wish you luck and if your rom will be like what I described above then I will be one of many people who will use it.

Depends on how you use yours. CM 10.1 (+ Operation Killjoy scripts) is fast and responsive on my Ace 2.
