What is SHIP - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all:
What is SHIP that in the bootloader?
and do u guys advice to transfer it to ENG bootloader?
many thanks

Stock bootloader is called ethier ship S-ON or ship S-OFF. Anyway you don't need to transfer it to and ENG bootloader as ENG gives ability to flash in bootloader.

The older Hboot's didn't require unlocking. Just boot to recovery & flash a ROM.

Touch Panel-ATMEL224_16ab

this is the bootloader, or hboot. nothing you need worry about unless you want to dive into the world of custom roms
You need to S-off in order to root phone & install custom Rom.

[Q] Help! HTC Buzz: Wildfire -Revoulutionary- HBoot 6.01.1002

Hi,
I am a new to XDA Developers and I only registered because I have a problem with my HTC Wildfire (Buzz). I need to downgrade my hBoot so I can unlock the bootloader. I didn't know about the bootloader having to be unlocked so I used Revolutionary. I had hboot 1.01.1001 at the time and it was a successfull root. I tried to boot to Clockworkmod Recovery to install Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 when a HTC phone picture came up with a red triangle with a '!' inside it. The specs of the phone are as follows:
Android OS: 2.1 (Eclair) (I downgraded from 2.2.1 recently)
hBoot:
-Revolutionary-
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.01.1002
MICROP-0622

Please help! I really want to be on Cyanogenmod rom asap because stock is slow. I need to downgrade Hboot to 1.01.1001 (I don't know how) so I can unlock bootloader using HTCDev.
Thanks,

Why do you need to use HTCDev?? By doing that you void any chance of your warranty.
You need to flash a recovery.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Assuming recovery is named recovery.img and it is placed in your fastboot folder.

I tried using ROM manager but as I said the picture comes up. What fastboot folder and recovery.img?

You need a fastboot folder and need to install the HBOOT drivers. See the first few steps of my rooting guide.

I got it now. I had to use the fastboot flash command with an older recovery image. I am now using Cyanogenmod 7.2.0. Thanks guys

S-On doesn't allow you to flash another recovery, to get permanent root and flash custom roms.
Unlocked bootloader (still S-On) allows you to di precedent things.
I don't know what S-Off does that is different from unlocked bootloader.
Unlocked bootloader is enough for most of us. I may have said something wrong, but that's how I understood this.

It also allows you total control of the hardware. Ie you can change the size of your mtd partitions so you have more space for apps. Which is very useful if your rom takes up very little space on the system partition. You can allocate that space back to data. Also should you some how kill the software, being s-off means that you can run any ruu without the phone telling you no. Upgrade and downgrade. You can also perform super cid (11111111) which allows you to flash roms from any network/country. Also if you manage to get hardware s-off via a software solution ( a radio s-off and not a hboot s-off) you can run the pj76diag.nbh from the lovely guys at the xtc clip and it will sim unlock the device to any network as well. But if you use the xtc clip its self it will automatically s-off, sim unlock and do supercid
Manny Thanks for the info!
