Has there been any successful rooting done on this device using a mac?
Install boot camp and you'll have a native version of windows. It's not worth the risk using a virtual machine to root.

I hate boot camp. I guess I can always borrow a friend's pc...I guess heimdall sees no use again |:
I used parallels on my mac running windows 7.

I tried it on mac as well, but after multiple attempts I had to give up and use Odin with boot camp.

I only have an imac at home and all my friends have macbooks. Also I am pretty sure this would be frowned upon doing on one of our work computers haha.

mind sharing.. never even heard of it.
Yea, I'm with ACD168, I haven't heard of it either. Does it have something to do with rooting (the Dinc2)?!
I saw your thread on the incredible forum.
Yea you may know what it is but the rest of us dont, what is it?
Its pretty much just drivers for ur device on a windows pc..i realized it when i booted up my win 7 instead of my usual linux a couple of days ago.

Nope, you will need a PC.

There are already multiple thread for this, but yeah you'll NEED a PC.
I thought it'd be a really cool idea to do all this without one, but realistically you'd run into some huge trouble if your device was bricked in the process of an app sending files to your /root
Ok I know you guys are all die hard Android users and I see where your coming from when you don't think this would be smart but, does anyone know of or could make a toolkit for Rooting/Unrooting/Recovery/etc for mac? Like a dmg installer not one that needs to be on windows?
Kay I said my peace! pls don't kill me!
Ask this guy about adding in Mac support

Nope.
Do it manually. Its easy, and you won't brick your phone.

I've always done manually myself from terminal in os x and I agree it is pretty easy and safer (depending on user error). But it would be nice if Mac users also had an easy one click toolkit. I'd personally wouldn't need it but not everyone wants to manually run terminal commands.

Hey my phone is rooted but I don't have a backup!!...I also already have Hemidall already downloaded so what is the next process??
I've never used heimdall, I have Windows but go to galaxys3root.com and there is a guide there on how to root. Just follow those steps and it should work. You will lose all the data on your internal sdcard though

Did you install that from the market? If so that app has bricked countless sg3's including mine. That app should have a warning or just be removed from the market its terrible, there are other ways to get beats installed without bricking your device!!

I agree DO NOT USE that site. But my main reason for visiting this thread was to say Beats sucks. Get good headphones and PowerAmp and you should get way better sound quality.

Yeah it's so much easier than having to go into bootcamp!
Yep. Only thing is first you'll need to root on Windows or Linux.

Very much agree. Competition brings out the best. But smug Mac/iPhone users give the brand a bad name. But they do have good marketing. It would have to be to get people to overspend so much on something that is clumsy.
I like the idea of Linux as a competitor because it isn't associated with smug ass-hats, and is open-source.
As for Windows 8, I like to think of it as today's "New Coke". Almost nobody likes it, and Microsoft crammed it down our throats because they thought it's what we wanted.
But that's my very off-topic rant. Y'all have a good day!
Here's the thing. I love my Mac, but I can't stand iPhone. I also have a Windows computer, and love it too. Not all Mac users are smug, in fact I went from Windows to Mac very willingly and loved it. However, I'm also very open-minded when it comes to OS.
Also, I didn't know people didn't know you could use adb etc on Mac. Lol otherwise I would've said something a long time ago haha

Wow, didn't know this was possible, thanks!
I know LOTS of people with iPhones and Macs, and not a single one of them are smug. I think people just dislike the Apple brand sooo much, they see what they want to see about the person using any Apple devices.
Personally, I like both. However, I dislike Windows though. Be it Windows XP, 7, or 8. To me, Windows seems clumsy.
Come to think of it, I dislike Microsoft in general.

People assume that they must pick between Apple and Google or Apple and Windows all the time. There are strengths and weaknesses for devices of both companies. For example, I use my Mac for video editing, as its software is generally much better than video editing software on Windows.
