Flashing Back to stock ATT rom - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I recently flashed to AOKP Task & Ktoonsez JB rom, but decided I'd rather just go back to the stock rom. I did a nandroid backup before I flashed, but when I go into CWM it is giving me an error
"error while restoring /data!"
Can anyone please help me?

I'm in the same boat as you, im also leaving AOPK Task & Ktoonsez JB rom.
Im using this method to go back to stock.

Just flash any of these.

nvm I was able to get it to work. I just transferred the nandroid backup from my External SD to the Internal and it was able to complete the backup.
hopefully this helps someone who might be having the same issue i was.
Thanks for the help though. Thanks Task & Ktoonsez

[Q] nandroid restore: does it remove the custom rom and replace it with stock?

Might be a pretty basic qtn but heres the deal.
I took a nandriod backup of dk28 (no root) and then flashed it with nebula rom. Now since the rom was new, all my data/contacts/apps etc are gone obviously.. I am wondering if I did a restore of the nandroid restore, will it restore all that (ie sms/email/contacts/data/apps) or is it used to go back to stock rom only, ie it will remove my custom rom and put back the stock as it was pre flashing nebula?
All I need is a way to keep the custom rom but also restore my sms/email/apps etc.
Thanks!

It will restore everything excatly how it was when you saved it. Including your Texts/Mail etc that were in your inbox at the time you saved. You are basically going back to the exact point where you saved. You can create backups for every rom you have, it is not just for putting your phone back to stock. I always back up stock first, so I can always go back if needed.
Thanks Heelfan71..I understand it puts back everything as it was .. but will I loose my custom rom after that is my question.

If you restore your backup? Yes you will loose your custom rom, unless you make a backup of that too (this is what I do). So you can go back and forth between the 2 if needed. Is that what you were wondering?
basically i want to switch back and forth the roms but keep my data intact.. right now after flashing the new rom.. i have obviously lost all my sms/emails/apps etc.. is there a one click solution which will restore all my data on every new rom i install?
edit: Also , I did take a titanium backup before I flashed the new rom.. but i didnt do a complete (ALL) backup, since I couldnt find a option to backup all. I had to choose each service/app/etc to backup.. so I ended up backing up all the stuff that I understood..but restoring them hasnt restored my sms/email data yet.
Do an advanced restore->restore /data in cwm.
I've had pretty good luck keeping my contacts, apps, and settings this way. Some people see weird force close issues after restoring /data. Check it out and see if it works for you.
thaniks.. i ll give it a try .. i thought about it.. but wasnt sure what exactly it does.
did that .. now that removed the rom manager and spare parts.. not sure what else it did.. but it did bring everything sms/apps/emails back ..
i guess i can install rom manager from the market..
If you only restore data your custom rom will stay. It will only restore your apps and app data. If you are restoring data from a rom on the same file system, you should be fine.
In other words, flashing VIPERrom 4.0.3 EXT4, then backing up, then flashing Bonsai 1.1.4 on RFS, then restoring data is not a good idea.
@ryno502 makes sense....thats what i did and it did restore everything.. Thanks!
now i ve to find some good widgets and lockscreen changes..
Nandroid restore on Custom ROM
I own a Xperia Arc(LT 15i)..rooted,unlocked...
I have Cyanogenmod, stable version running on my phone now...
I had taken a nandroid backup using CWM Auto-installer...
But now I wanna know how can i restore my apps that i had with Stock ROM...i tried a advanced backup on /data alone but then, its not booting up if i do so...
Please help..
Xperia?
Your data is incompatible with CM. You will need to download apps again unless you have a Titanium Backup.

Failure to restore image from clockword mod

This seems to keep happening to me but if i backup a rom after setting it up how i like, i can see the files in the clockword mod folder but when i go to restore it it complains to me that the boot image is missing and fails constantly. I am using clockwork mod acsrecovery v1.0.0.5. and running thunderhawk 3.3 currently. What i do is choose (pre-rom wipe) then go to backup and restore, choose my restore image and go. From there it does some file checking and errors out about the boot img. file.
Thanks for any help.
Bml or Mtd?

This should be in Q&A. He must be on BML because MTD installs CWM 5.027MTD.
OP I would switch to CWM 5.027 and try it again. Don't rename the backups.

im still fairly new so i dont know the difference between BML and MTD, sorry. I DID however read some issues with acs recovery and backups from here and qbkings video and how you should upgrade to 5.0.2.7 which i just did. Im backing up the rom through rom manager now and will give another go. Thanks.
edit: question, before restoring a backup does cache and dalvik need to be wiped?
looks like acs recovery was the problem. i just restored(with rom manager) a clean gb rom backup i made a little while back and it worked and right now the thunderhawk restore backup is moving along just fine with no errors. Thanks guys.

You are welcome. And no you don't have to wipe before restoring backups, it should overwrite everything.

Flashing and restoring between GB and JB

Hi all,
I'm having trouble restoring backups when I go between GB and JB. Sbrissen's lastest Alpha build is the JB I'm using. Everything goes fine with the restore until "Data". Then the restore fails. I mobile odin the EL29 with autoboot into recovery, install the ROM (JB in this example) . I then try to restore a backup I made with the same exact version of CWM from the same exact ROM that I used to create the back up. Maybe a better question is How can I create a JB backup, go back to GB, and return to JB and restore that backup. Cause what I'm doing isn't working.
Thanks
Which GB ROM are you coming from? GB recoveries should be safe so you shouldn't have to Odin to EL29, unless you're on a stock ROM without a custom recovery. Also are you wiping system, data, cache, and dalvik cache prior to restoring your backup?

I'm using the latest Blazer GB Rom. I'm wiping everything also, factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, etc. I have to flash back to GB to update an app that requires my correct serial number to work, JB Roms do not do this at the moment so the app wont work. That is the reason for flashing back to GB (didn't want to mess with ICS for obvious reasons). I'm coming from HTC Evo 4g so things are a little different. On the Epic 4G, I was under the impression you had to use the same recovery to restore that was used to create the backup. Can I just jump back and forth between GB and JB using the nand backup with each others recovery? GB's CWM is 5 and JB's CWM is 6. I didn't think you could because if the backup won't restore with the same CWM is was created with, how would it restore with another version? Still a little foggy on the process E4GT uses.
Thanks

I've gone from rooted EL29 back to a a JB ROM and restored with no issues. The ROM I use is Paranoid Android. I usually allow my phone to boot then reboot into recovery before restoring. Hopefully this isn't a stupid question, but sometimes things get forgotten/overlooked when flashing ROMs. Anyways, did you flash the JB gapps after flashing the ROM? Just asking since this step was not in your posts.

Yes, I flashed JB gapps also. I'm not having trouble re-flashing the ROM's back and forth. . This part is successful. The problem is when I go back into recovery and try to restore a backup (of either ROM just flashed) it isn't working. Sorry for the confusion.
Thanks

Okay, I was just making sure something wasn't forgotten when you were going back to JB this time around. I figured you were able to get the different ROMs working since you were able to make a backup of the JB ROM you were using. AFAIK the different versions of CWM (5 vs 6) shouldn't matter in this situation. Hopefully someone else has had the same problem and will be able to chime in.
CWM6 creates backups differently than CWM5 or most other recoveries. Instead of putting the entire backup in one folder, it has a separate Blobs folder that contains a lot of the data. If the folders get separated, the backup won't get restored correctly. Did you by any chance move the main folder or delete the blobs folder?

[Q] restore paths have been changed on jellybean 4.2?!

i decided to flash a stock 4.2 jellybean rom on my gsm gnex. i like the rom, but my data has been very slow and i miss being able to customize my rom, so i decided to try and restore to one of my back ups, but cwm recovery restore points have apparently been changed because i can no longe find my back ups. i can still find them with my file manager but not through my recovery. is anybody experiencing this or know a fix to it?
Recoveries had to be updated to account for this. If you are using clockwork mod, I remember someone mentioning that they were able to restore a backup through rom manager.
