Best Galaxy Nexus/ Vanilla Android Rom? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Well, I'm still stuck on touchwiz looking for a new ROM. What is the most stable, quickest, and battery efficient Rom for my phone? I'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus, so the ROM that looks the closest to the Galaxy Nexus would really help. I would prefer Jelly bean, but ICS is fine if all is not right lol. It would be helpful if you guys could narrow it down to three or four roms with pros and cons to each, and the bugs for each. Also a tutorial to that rom would be really helpful, but I'm not sure if I'm asking for too much. Thanks, you guys are the shizz

wow...33 views and not a reply? lol..it wouldnt let me post in the other sections...can someone at least point me too where im looking for?

Check android development and original development forums. There are plenty of discussions with tons of info. I seriously doubt anyone here would compile a list of several ROMs with pros and cons for you. The information is there. When you have more specific question(s) you will have plenty of answers. Good luck.

CM10 or AOKP. Just like on the nexus.

honestly i think your rom will be the best and most awesome rom ever. Head over here to build it.
I have used ARHD and was very happy with it. I just switched to the Gummy ROM this afternoon and I like it as well.
The problem is no one has enough info from you. Different ROMs have different features. Because of this, "best" is largely opinionated. Read through the [ROM] threads in the development section. Try and get a feel for what features you want then ask around for which one people like the most.
My experience:
ARHD: Pretty much 4.0.2 stock. No visual changes, just performance enhancements. Nice and smooth ROM
Gummy: based on leaked 4.0.3 with major enhancements. Toggles in the drop down menu. Ability to over clock and under volt. I have not ran it very long, but so far really like it.
Hope this helps.

I was on ARHD 2.1.2 for a little while. It ran much better than stock. Then I tried bigxie's ROM and it felt much smoother than ARHD. I'm currently using it with Franco's kernel. While benchmarks don't really tell the whole story, bigxie's ROM with Franco's kernel is quite fast. I get over 3000 on Quandrant (vs 2200 stock, although I think it's an optimization issue) and over 6300 on Antutu (vs. 6000). I like it b/c it looks stock, but adds a few conveniences, like having the power widget in the dropdown notification menu for easy toggling.
From the research I have done AOKP seems to be a winner...I have no experience with it as Im waiting for the price on the gnex to come down before I pull the trigger. But its a very popular among the members I know who have switched to the gnex.
I've always know what AOSP is but what is AOKP. I hear that alot.

Score one for the fellow Fascinate owner! If he can find one of the best ROMs available on the Gnex without even having one, the answer should be even more obvious to Gnex owners. I use the Toro version of AOKP myself and can confirm droidstyle's conclusion
Terminators run on Android
AOKP is simply the best one
Try the Milestone 2, its great!
Kang milestone 2, Franco kernel oc 1.35
Best I have used.
7000 antu score
120k browser mark.
Stable no issues great battery life.
Can't complain

Using GummyNex and franco's kernel. Best combo I have tested so far.
I recommend AOKP as well Go to rootzwiki and get the latest build

Android Revolution HD!!! great battery life, super smooth, but completely stock look - no bells and whistles
AOKP. Awesome extras, great battery life with Franco's kernel, and super stable.

It's tough to say what is the 'best ROM' as different users want different things from a ROM, but personally, I really rate Bigxie and AOKP.
They are the only two ROMs I'd recommend for GSM Nexus.

Rom Reviews

Hey all,
Just wondering where I could find some good reviews on the different roms available. I have used Google and YouTube but can't really find much. Has anyone here done any reviews they could share?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
I don't think you'll find any unbiased reviews on Youtube, 9/10 they're done by a loyal user, or developer.
The absolute best "reviews" are the ROM threads, seriously, read the first 10 pages, and the last 10 pages and use specific search criteria in thread to look for anything you're curious about. This should help you decide to add a ROM to your shortlist. You can then try the 1, 2, or 3 ROMs on that list.

I've had positive experience with AOKP
Cyanogenmod 9 - Stock Android but not all mods have been merged in. Very stable.
CodeName Android - A bit of every rom in one. Fast, Stable.
AOKP - Feature packed. Fast, Stable (Using this currently will eventually switch to cm9)
Bugless beast, axiom crossbreed .. heard good things about those but never tried myself
Depends what you are looking for really. If you want feature packed I would go with AOKP if you want something stock but smoother and fast cm9

What he said. And this goes the same for kernels. If you have a lot of time, do a nandroid backup and start flashing roms that looks appealing to you when it comes to reading the list of features in that rom.

I personally use cm9 and Franco kernal because they both have ways of updating with the click of a button they have been smooth so I have no reason to switch to something else

Gotta say, that I haven't been this pleased with a rom since I flashed MoDaCo's Lr11 and since Lr12 with Franco's kernel.
Have owned some android devices by now, but this setup (GNEX w MoDaCo/Franco) is by far the best I've tried.
Thanks for all the replies guys. Gonna keep on flashing to find the best rom. Using Modaco right now and it's the fastest yet.

TouchWiz?!

I am not rooted and unlocked and on 4.0.4. Now I want more. Does anyone know of a feature rich fast and stable rom featuring the newest TouchWiz? If not what is your suggestion for a ROM? What's the best? I'm very new so all information is great!
No Nexus rom will have TouchWiz. As for the best so far? That answer will vary from person to person. I, personally, enjoy BAMF Paradigm.

aokp + franco
If you're looking for TouchWiz, this is your best hope. However, nothing works right now. I personally doubt the ROM will ever be functional, as there are three of them and there's a lot of work involved to get it working at all, not to mention quirking out everything and updating the ROM. In addition, I guess very few are interested in TouchWiz ROMs for Galaxy Nexus. So don't get your hopes up.
if I were you, I'd go for a ROM which is working and has active developers. Check out the Galaxy Nexus Development forum, and you'll get a pretty good idea of what's out there.

overwhelmed with JB options

I've had my sprint gnex for about a week now. maybe two weeks, I forget. Anyway, 4.0.4 ICS is mind-blowing compared to 2.3.5 that I had on my rooted S-on Evo 4g (I did de-bloat the stock rom). The fact that it's not a Sense or TouchWiz rom is the best part of all, and really I find that I have no desired functionality that would require rooting or flashing of any kind. However... a lot of the additions in JB look really awesome and I'd like to check into those at some point in the near future. I'm comfortable with the idea of rooting and flashing. After I rooted my Evo I may have actually laughed out loud for being as paranoid and anxious as I was.
Here's my concern: after trudging through the sprint gnex dev forum, there's a lot of roms and kernels available. At this point I'm not so concerned with a kernel, but I'd like some help narrowing down the options to one or maybe two roms to get started with. Basically I'm looking for one that's as close to what Google would give me if they were releasing to sprint devices. I would also be cool with one that's as close to what sprint might release in an official OTA.
I was never crazy about trying CM roms (or other AOSP based ones for that matter) on the Evo just because I wasn't crazy about having to flash back and forth between stock roms for PRLs and profiles. I'm not sure how often that would really have to be done, but I won't consider that a deal breaker if it gets me into an ideal rom.

MMuzzy's AOSP is as close to OTA stock as you'll find. In both form and build quality.
Like the above, CM10 is as stock as you'll find. There are other very close to stock with internal performance tuning.

For a standard custom experience. Go CM.
I suggest Eclipse or Paradigm for beyond.

I don't know about other jb ROMs, but unlike cm7 on the evo (which i used to have as well) cm10 allows you to do prl and profile updates in the about phone menu.

paranoidandroid with trinity kernel...
If you want stock the best one is RUJellin by shabbypenguin and dreamsforgott3n. They had it ported and running without problems less than24 hours after source. Plus they're super cool and the thread is pretty chill.
CM10 for sure. Stock cm kernel. Its the most polished looking room for xure

Ok, definitely seeing a lot of love for CM so I'll be researching that one for sure. If that doesn't pique my interest I'll start checking out some of the other ones mentioned as well. You can probably expect a few more questions in this thread before I actually dive into anything, though

I prefer AOKP to CM, but the last few AOKP builds have been horrible on battery and in terms of someone wanting a custom experience and not really knowing what they want, I point them to CM.
paranoidandroid is just cm10 with more options lol
I'm trying to be a good forum member and search out my own answers before posting them, but I'm having a bit of trouble finding much info about CM10 from their own website. First of all, they don't have a subforum for the samsung gnex at all (just the google variant), and most of what I have skimmed across on the forums seems to be related to either CM 7 or 9. Should I be looking in the Google Galaxy Nexus CDMA forum over there? Do we have much here on xda for CM10 aside from a dev thread?
Still need to look at paranoidandroid, I'm not opposed to a few extra options on top of what CM10 has already
Edit:
Paranoid looks like awesome, like the ability to use the tablet UI, but I think I'll wait for that one to mature a little more since I'm just getting started with roms!
I'm also gonna have to say mmuzzy's stock AOSP ROM. It's what we would have had from Google if we had AOSP support, IMO.
Sent from my Stock AOSP Android 4.1.1 Galaxy Nexus.
I'm running vanilla rootbox 2.2 which is also pure android with AOKP bits. To be honest it hasn't even been 24 hours since I flashed that ROM but it's been running very stable. I just can't say anything about battery life yet.

[Q] Goodness Rom, whats next!!???

I love Goodness Rom so much that i have been neglecting others. I have went as far as trying to remedy reasons why i cant leave. I found the rolletube apk and i have been searching for other roms with working mulitwindow. Is Goodness the only one? I am willing to sacrifice some things to show love to other developers. So, if i love Goodness...
What do think i should try next!?!? Thanks for your opinions for i know everyone's preferences are different but nonetheless, they are appreciated!!

Well since you love Goodness idk if you'll like it because it's not TouchWiz based... but Liquid Smooth is AWESOME! Android 4.2.2 and this ROM is smooth as heck great battery life as well.
I definitely know what you mean. but in my case, it's been the FreeGS3 Rom that's been occupying my attention for months. Battery life has certainly not been up to snuff as of late in this Rom (stock kernel), so would you recommend Goodness?

Well, that looks like what i am going to have to do. I actually read them already before i posted this but i know that devs do not put all the features and goodies in the list. I just tried MOAR rom....i can dig it....but after a couple of days....time to switch lol....going to give FREE a chance again. I miss multiwindow..wahhhh lol...i love my AOKP and CM series but i tend to miss the TW experience ...weird huh! O well....gotta love our options though..Team Droid for life lol
The new MOAR M6 ROM is as solid as they come. I have used everything including aosp, and keep coming g back to the MOAR ROM. Give it a try. With the Morphology built in, you can pretty much theme it a million different ways to your liking.

I have been using the Goodness rom for some time now and love it.. I have trid MOAR and wasn't that impressed. On my wife phone I have wickedsensation, because she loves the pink theme.. I do not plan on using any other than Goodness, and can't wait to see if they make a update for the MA6. I thought I downloade it already from another thread, but it was the fix for the hidden prlwrite. I guess with the new MA6 you can't write a new prl..
Ha...i feel ya. Well i actually flashed 3 different roms yesterday < Jbombed, Moar, Free> and yet i came back to Goodness. I have not seen, from my point of view, a more complete rom. I mean i have awesome batt life, blue themed, options of theme, tremendous amount of customization, fully functional mwindow, and settings galore. I just dived into the kernel world and trying out this Ktoonesz kernel. I have no idea what it is doing thus far but from what i can tell, its not harming it in any way lol. This rom to me....is exactly why we root! But the one thing i love about it is that every rom is different like everyone is different and we are blessed to have options. Different strokes for different folks! Happy Flashing!!!!
