Can't connect to Sprint service - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I was running CM10 yesterday and decided to flash on screen nav buttons after i had updated to the latest CM10 nightly build, everything was working fine. I created a nandroid backup before flashing the buttons and decided the buttons werent for me a few minutes after flashing so i restored back. The restore was probably corrupt or something cause i had a lot of my settings there still but many of my apps were gone and it felt wrong so i flashed CM10 after wiping everything, clean flash.
That's when the problems started... I couldn't get any cell service and logged into sprint.com to see if i could maybe reactivate it there but the site was under maintenance last night. Today I woke up and tried to activate it but failed. Flashed CM10 a few times still no signal, flashed back to stock using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737859 and still no signal. When i apply the OTA update and the phone restarts com.android.phone has stopped keeps looping.
Any ideas or should i reset the binary counter and take it into the Sprint store?

Flash back to stock in Odin preferably. And do ##72786# in the dialer. No need to take the ota's. Just grab the newest modem from the forums here. Especially on an aosp based Rom.taking the full ota is pointless

Please make sure to update us...

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but do you or anyone else know of any negative effects using this code? I've been working on my MIUI port for a while and this often happens to me (no signal, can't send sms etc)
Flashing back to a TW Rom and using the code has always worked, but idk if there's anything bad about using this like 3-4 times a week

After I flash stock with Odin everything is fine, except for the cell service. Whenever the phone restarts by me or OTA update i get the com.android.phone has stopped loop. After typing your code in the dialer the phone restarted after flashing a screen, couldnt catch what it said. after the phone booted it started the com.android.phone loop again... I think ill just take it to sprint tonight before they close unless you guys have any other ideas

baseband unknown?

hi all, been following the Epic forums for sometime, finally decided to start getting involved
Im experiencing an issue with EB13. when it first came out I Odined EB13, everything worked great. Since then I have ran into the same issue every time I switch ROMS. I will flash the new rom, about half the time it works great. The other half I get no connectivity at all, and the UI is sluggish. Going into about phone, I see that my baseband is unknown, and my hardware version is unknown.
I can usually get it to connect after re-flashing and re-flashing the rom a few times.
Also, noticed that once I get it to actually connect and I get "bars", I will of course then do a fresh Nandroid, after a full nand backup the issue reappears.
Anyone know what this could be? weird thing is just that its so random. I can get it to work most of the time, just have trouble when switching roms.
Set up:
CWM3.0.0.6/EXT4
Just flashed SyndicateROM today.
EB13 (sometimes)
FIXED
FIXED. all the computers in my home are Macs so odining the modem again is not a quick fix option.
Booted into CWM3 and Fixed Permissions.
Booted up and connected.
Interesting stuff
I've been experiencing the exact same problem as the OP, but for me, running fix permissions in CWM (2.5.1.0) doesn't (always) solve the issue.
It seems to happen anytime I flash a zip from CWM, and goes away randomly (usually after sever flash attempts and modem restores with Odin).
Really hoping someone has an idea what's causing this issue, because it makes flashing things very tedious knowing half the time I'm gonna be stuck with a useless phone until I can get the modem working again.
I'm wondering if it's somehow a hardware issue, since it doesn't seem to affect everybody.
If it helps, I have the stock deodexed EB13 ROM with the Genocide 0.3a kernel.
I'm definately thinking its a cwm issue.. ill even just do a nandroid backup for kicks, reboot and it will do it sometimes.. eventually I might odin back to eb13 and reflash cwm and custom rom and see if I can get it to go away

Let me know if that works for you, because it happens to me all the time, and it's really annoying.
There also doesn't seem to be a simple way of fixing it.
Seems to just randomly go away as suddenly as it comes on.
Okay, so I just odined back to stock EB13 and I still have modem issues.
Currently going all the way back to DI18 to see if that fixes things, but is it safe to assume it's a hardware issue if even Odin doesn't fix it?
Okay, so the unknown baseband issue is back for me, and I seem to have made some headway on what causes it.
I had just tried to initiate a ROM backup in ROM Manager, but it hung while rebooting into CWM (on the Samsung Boot Logo).
I think I might have been doing something with ROM Manager last time it happened as well.
Can anyone who knows more about this stuff than I do think of a reason it'd happen when using ROM Manager?
I'd very much like to nip this issue for good, because it's making it hard to justify using CWM/root if I'm gonna keep losing the phone part of my phone.
Can I bump this? My battery died, and when I turned it back on, I have the unknown baseband, unknown hardware problem. I've been googling all night, and haven't found a solution.
I have been running ERA Legendary v3 on the EI22 Modem for a few weeks with ACS Recovery that I've had installed since it came out.
Any help would be awesome.

And I've tried flashing modems/roms and odining modems/roms. Even Heimdalling modems/roms. No luck. I've mainly tried ec05 and up. I will try older ones right now, if I can find them.

Galaxy Nexus keeps rebooting

Today when i got home i turned on Wifi and suddenly my phone went into a boot loop.. It doesnt get past the "Google" logo at the beginning and just keeps rebooting every 5 seconds.. I have tried doing a hardreset restoring to factory settings but that didnt work.. It is rooted.
Can anyone help me fix this?:/
What Rom/Kernel are you on? Can you get it into download mode? Have you tried restoring a Nandroid? Have you tried a fresh install?
I had the CM9 3/29 nightly running. Had the phone in desktop mode all night. This morning it started rebooting after coming to the home screen, and then situation is getting worse, it reboots after every boot. I had a good CM9 nandroid back up, restored and still doing the same thing.
CM9 nightly, no separate kernel, just some tweaks and was @1350 under performance.
Can there be some hardware damage?
Help please!!

Was your phone continuously on, and got hot by any chance?
Don't run performance governor. Also just do a full wipe system and data and flash a known stable CM9 build. That should get you up and running.

Done, no go there. One thing I am noticing is a "pop" sound just before it reboots
This happened to me 2 months ago. The way I fixed it was by putting it into download mode and flashing 4.0.1 YAKJU via the ODIN file found on the Samsung German website. Phone has been good ever since. *knock on wood*
EDIT: BTW, after that, I updated to 4.0.2 OTA normally, and since then, I've been manually updating because I rooted my phone.

Yes thats the only way to do it.
Installed the rootkit 5.6 and downloaded the 4.0.4 into the corresponding folder.
Sure wiped my phone completely, but I don't have a $600 paper weight.
Thanks all!

[Q] Phone deactivated?

I was running latest paranoid android and I wiped cache/dalvic cache after flashing Cerberus in recovery and when the phone booted up it was asking me to Activate (sprint service) my phone. I've never seen this with flashing roms and was wondering if this is a known issue with flashing roms on the S3 or something that can randomly occur from time to time.
Anyone have experience with this before? I had been running Paranoid Android for less than 24 hours but initially didn't have any problems whatsoever.
Itll do that sometimes depending on the rom. Usually does it after a factory reset and installing a cm based rom. Its just asking you to add your google account... you should be fine

This didn't have anything to do with my Google account. I guess I should have been more specific, I mean that my phone is deactivated on Sprint's network as in I can't make phone calls and all the info is missing in about phone. Phone number, PRL and such. I am flashing back to stock right now and hope this fixes it. Will probably give paranoid another go but this doesn't sound like a common issue because I haven't been able to find anything by searching.
When you get back to stock it'll probably reactivate itself. If not (although you can do this regardless just in case), ##72786# in the dialer should set you straight. If I'm not mistaken the screen you're referring to should be gone when you boot stock regardless. Its a bug. Doesn't work for a sprint phone but still buried in the rom
Ahhh... could try manually flashing your modem after the install too

Soon as I flashed the stock rom it tried to activate and initially failed and prompted me to reboot. Second attempt it was successful and then I immediately flashed back to PA and it is working. Going to give it another shot and keep the stock rom on my sd card this time in case I get stuck in a pinch.
I jumped the gun, phone activated fine but signal drops in and out randomly and will not connect to 3g. Just reflashed to stock again and everything seemed fine but signal was still back in and out. Checked under status and PRL read "0" tried updating to no avail so did the dialer code and it did the activation and all is right in the world again, or at least for the moment.
Just trying to figure out why when I flash Paranoid all my settings just disappear
*edit*
Just flashed back to PA this third time after fully making sure that the phone was working and had 3G data and all was right with the world (my phone). Will update if it goes South again but as of right now the phone is behaving properly. Maybe it just wasn't working right the first time and I didn't notice since I was on wifi. Only thing that keeps me from thinking that is I didn't get the Activation message until 12 hours or so after I had flashed and had been using the phone. /shrug
I still think flashing a modem in recovery after installing PA would yield a poisitve result

[Q] What is wrong with my Gnex?

Hey the Problem is the following:
3-5 random reboots every day
restarts during every phonecall after 1-3 Minutes
freezes when in standby, cant turn back on -> need to take battery out
often slow, especially when switching apps. or when typing
I have tried stock 4.3, CM10.2 recently and before that CM10.1 for a while.
I already send it in but they only said my battery is broken.
Is it possible that all my problems come from this?
I rather think my flash memory is broken? What you think?

Since yesterday I am facing the same problems you are describing. At first I thought it was a bad flash or something like that. Clean installed various 4.3 costum roms and it's always the same.
Right now I will look deeper into it since the phone is unusable in that condition.
If I find a solution I will comment.
Best regards
Edit: Okay, works again flawlessly. I simply flashed an nightly from carbon-rom and the lags were gone. Hope it helps. What exactly caused the lag I don't know. For now I am staying on 4.2.2 Carbon as it is my favourite rom anyway and I will wait till there are stable 4.3 from carbon.
Are you sure it's the phone and not an app?

Not pretty sure, but it still occured after countless factory resets, wipe cache, wipe dalvic cache and wipe system via TWRP.
Have you tried a clean install without installing apps to see if you get a reboot to eliminate an app as a possible cause?

Yes I did. I only flashed for example newest PA and their PA Gapps.
So far I resolved it by "downgrading" to a 4.2.2 nightly from carbon. The lags are completly gone. I will stay and wait till carbon has stable 4.3.
why dont people try stock when they are having problems? going from 1 custom rom to the next does not prove it is the phone.
please fastboot flash the stock rom and do not restore any apps/data other than say your google acct

Already did that.
I am having the same/similar problems with my GNex too. Specifically bullets [1-3] from the original post. I am running unmodified yakjuux and have tried with just my google account with no other apps and the same problem exists.
Mine makes a noticeable "click" sound with a vibration followed by a reboot.
It usually happens during calls and after it boots the phone call log shows no record of the incoming/outgoing call that just happened. Its like a blue screen of death for android!
I have sent the phone back to Samsung's warranty service 4 separate times and each time they reported no trouble found in the completion report. They just factory reset or put an older version of jelly bean back on the phone and send it back to me with some notes of PRL updates and other nonsense to make it seem like they did something to fix it.
Does anyone have any suggestions (logs, adb, etc) how I can help prove to Samsung/service absolute that the phone is a lemon (other than trying to video tape the phone hoping it reboots - because that is the last resort)?
I already escalated to executive customer service and they refused an exchange because the completion reports show no trouble found :crying:
Thx!
well... I also have this problem.
First happened when I flash Cm10.2 nightly (don't remember which one).
Then I flash PA, or whatever... Looks like the random reboot relating to notifications? It's usually happened when whatsapp notification coming in, but not always.
But a few weeks ago I flashed stock ROM rooted (via TWRP, not fastboot).
The problems solved. No random reboots anymore. Then today I tried latest CM10.2, and it happened again... Wonder why... Looks like it's a very rare problems.
Interesting to see someone having the same problem...
Now I want to flash stock ROM via fastboot to check if it'll fix.
Btw, I can flash directly to CM 10.2 from 10.1, can't I? Or I should flash 4.3 via fastboot first?

I believe CM offers an upgrade option somewhere in the system settings. Unless you want to wipe your phone and flash directly to 10.2 in which case I do not think you need to flash stock 4.3 first. Maybe just do a reset within 10.1 before you flash CM10.2 via whatever recovery (clockwork etc) you are using but even that may be unnecessary.
My 1 year warranty expires this month so if I can't manage to get something out of Samsung I am going to play around with flashing stock 4.3 as you suggested. I have tried converting yakjuux to yakju in the past but still saw the problem then which made me revert back to yakjuux so I could send the phone back for service).

I have not yet... the update to 10.2 screwed up and ( opr I screwed it up ) and when I tried rebooting back to 1.2 it lost everything like I never had anything setup.. even titanium can't find by backups.. Im gonna try and clean phone out completly and start from scratch... do you know if I should use Kies? or search another way ?? I just don't wanna do the first thing I read and ruin anything...
Well, were you on 4.1.2 before you tried to go to CM 10.2?
Its important to know whether you were on 4.1.2 or had upgraded to 4.3 using the update sprint sent out.
Never did sprint update. Never asked me to. Thats why I wanted to goto stock, update, then do 10.2 but my stock won;t let me load, tried again last night, just errors. Before end of day I am going to verify drop box has my pics and stuff in my internal sd and intend on doing a hard reset, or wipe or watever and start fresh. I am just curios if root will be lost not that that is a huge deal, but when I first rooted it took me quite a bit of tries.
