To all sprint users thank you for the past few years. But I have left sprint and went to Verizon. I know what some of are thinking but I really got tired of sprints **** service in my area. Talked to customer support on Tuesday and was told if I return my og Evo ( don't really know why they want that ) and my gnexus i could end my contract with no fees. So I did, went to best buy that same day picked up a gnexus for Verizon for ONE DOLLAR, AND MUST SAY IM LOVING THE LTE!!!!! To the Verizon pepes see u in the dev. Section.
Glad I got all 4 of my batteries from sprint the other day lol.

There is no comparison. Congrats.
Thinking of doing the same.
But with Sprint I got 5 smartphones with unlimited "data" for $250.
With Verizon, the cheapest is, I believe, $320 or something. I did it a few days ago.

Call 3 times in a row, each time make sure you choose end sprint service, and I bet you could leave now. Worth a shot.
I spent most of the past weekend uploading music to my play account and then it wouldn't work over sprints crappy service. That was pretty much the last draw for me. I just explained to her I could not utilize the phone with there service and something had to be done.

I had 7 months left on my contract, called them to see what the ETF would be, they said 50 bucks, cancelled that day. The ETF shrinks fast, you should check into it!
Welcome to Verizon, been with them for about ten years with no major issues other than paying an arm and a leg. Guess it's worth it for the quality of service they give.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I switched to Verizon from Sprint in February with four months left on my contract. They said the ETF would be $50, which would have been well worth it, but they never actually charged me for it. The service is far superior--I can use LTE almost anywhere as opposed to WiMAX almost nowhere and I no longer have to use Juice Defender to prevent my battery from draining like crazy due to poor signal, which allows me to use Google Voice to its full extent and save money on messaging--and it actually turns out to be cheaper for me than Sprint. The only downside is that I no longer have unlimited data, but 4GBs is more than enough, so it doesn't really matter anyway. I dislike Verizon's stance on locking the bootloaders for most of it's phones, but as long as they keep supporting Nexus devices, I'll be set. I think you made a very good choice in switching.

I agree with this. I've been on three of the four major US characters. AT&T had decent service, but horrid customer service. T-Mobile had great customer service, but horrid coverage in my area. VZW has been the best of both for me. I'd like better coverage at my workplace, but I think that our building was designed to be a Faraday cage anyway.
I've been with VZW for about 4 or 5 years now, and I pretty much hadn't needed their customer service until the last 6 months. Because of repeated issues with my Droid Charge (after owning it for 11 months), they freely replaced it with my current Nexus. My wife's Droid X recently developed problems with the screen and USB port. Today, they bumped her upgrade date up. It's was only bumped up to now from 6 weeks out, but they easily could have told her "too bad; you have to wait".
I'm not too pleased with the recent changes like the removal of unlimited data and the removal of the yearly upgrades for the primary line of a family plan, but they're still the top option for me in my area.
Yeah buddy!!! I just did same thing with mine and the wife's phones...no etf or anything..and I still had a year on contact. Was with Sprint for close to 10 years and finally got tired of the spotty coverage. No regrets at all. Limited data is better than slow data!!,

Hello everyone.
I'm on sprint now on referral plan with gs2, love the phone, hate service. But, since I pay next to nothing, was toughing it out for a while. Can not anymore, getting worse day by day and Nv is crap!
Anyways, I used to have tmobile and loved it, very fast data ans I like the idea of hspa+.
My question, however, is about galaxy nexus and tmobile hspa42. From the looks of it, their hspa+42 network is live here in Colorado, but the unlocked galaxy nexus only supports hspa+21? So, I'm guessing that is a pretty big deal as I won't be able to get the performance I could with another device that does support hspa+42?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
You are correct that the nexus does not support the hspa 42 network. I think the galaxy s2 on tmobile does, that's why they went with the snapdragon instead of the exynos or ti omap.
I personally don't think it is a reason to go with a "42" device over a nexus device. Users have posted their speedtest scores and they generally look good.
Not sure if this answers your question.

True, but is that a pretty big jump in speed when on hspa42? Real world performance I mean, I know that on paper hspa42 can reach potential speeds of 28-30mbps, I'm guessing it never has though.
Anything is better than <300kbps I get now on sprint. Even on 4g it is about 800-1.5mbps.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I cannot comment on the hspa 42 speeds myself but if that is a bigger deal than the true nexus experience go with a t-mobile galaxy s2. It's a great phone, but stock its still on gingerbread. Don't think I could go back to that personally.

You know how Google has it on sale unlocked for $400? I see that they only have grey, eBay has new ones which are unlocked in white. Would all those also work good on hspa+21 that tmobile has? I'm guessing they are all same but different color?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I'm using the white gnex on tmo. I previously used a tmo sgs2. The gnex is compatible with the hspa21 network & sgs2 with the hspa42. That being said, these are theoretical peak speeds aka not what you're actually going to get. There is no difference between speeds on my gnex or the sgs2. Both have reached up to 15mbps with full bars of service. This is in westchester, NY.

All i9250 are the same. They're all 21mbps HSPA+.
The speed difference between 42mbps and 21mbps radios in the real world isn't very big. The real-world max speeds you'll see on 21 are like ~11mbps, whereas on 42 you'll maybe peak at ~17mbps. All dependent on tons of factors.
You won't be dissatisfied with 21mbps device on T-Mobile. The speeds are great.

just remember that if you don't buy the usa version (the 16gb silver one google sells directly) you don't get a warranty or samsung support in the usa
the highest speed i've seen in the bay area is 11.2mbps with t-mobile

Yes. 100 minutes means 100 minutes. No frills.
My speeds are in the range of ~5-7mbps down / 2-4mbps up.
I had a GS2 and sold it for 330 on CL and bought this phone. I get the same data speeds on this phone as the GS2. Sure the GS2 can get 42 but I never broke 20 and I had the phone for a year. The only draw back with the nexus is the screen. I got a small scratch the first day I had it (hoping an xo skin will cover it up). I never had a protector on the S2 and never had a scratch. Go with the nexus you wont be disappointed.
I'd have to get the $70 plan, 100 minutes wouldn't cut it, nor 2g of data. Hmm, that means I'd have to pay $70 more than I so now.

I also have the Galaxy Nexus which I bought from Google a couple of days ago paired with T-Mobile's Monthly4G plan ($30 unlimited text/data + 100 minutes)
With the app called "talkatone", all you really need is unlimited data + google voice to get unlimited talk + texting services for free.
But currently, on this plan my speed is
about 3 Mbps up/down using XXLA2 baseband (which was the stock baseband installed on the phone when I got it from Google)

^Mine doesn't! It's been solid all around since day 1. :good:
At this point in time the gsm Nexus is one of the best deals around. I've been kicking myself for a while now for going with verizon and not prepaid. $350 for the phone and $50 or less a month for service is crazy cheap compared to Verizon or any other postpaid.
The way google did everything, I suspect they planned on this phone hitting its stride 6-8 months after it's release. When the unsubsidized price dropped to reasonable levels, BAM they put it up for sale themselves and put Jellybean on it making the Nexus a superphone that is semi affordable.
I don't get plagued by all these radio issues people talk about.
Having a GSM Nexus isn't possible for me so I'm happy with my CDMA Nexus and I don't think any less or more of the GSM variant.
If only At&t would offer unlimited data I would never have this CDMA crap again.

I have a VZW Galaxy Nexus and I agree with you guys even though I have no rational proof to support my claim.
Please indulge my anecdotal justification instead:
It feels like the GSM versions are better supported, maybe not in the dev community (it still seems like all of the development who provide updates also have GSM versions and I'm very curious to know if any of them use the VZW version as their main phone.) That may or may not be the case but CDMA support from manufacturers seems to be an afterthought at times. VZW doesn't even get some of the nicer phones sometimes. They really came through with getting us the original Droid though. That was a great phone. I haven't had a phone yet that I've liked as much as I liked the Droid when it was new.
I still have to point out that where I live my VZW Nexus still gets me more reliable service (even with its assinine bounces between 3g/LTE in my office) than anyone using a phone on any other carrier. Having a great flashy phone with the latest updates does little good if you can't get online. Sure my coworker gets 40MB/s up and down when he's at the north side of our building but he has to tether to me if he wants to get online where we spend most of the day.
If I spent a lot of time where I could get reliable GSM connections at the price I'm paying VZW with my discount, I'd switch in a heartbeat.

hello,
How is the reception on the Verizon Nexus? I heard there was a radio issue but not sure if it was true or if it got fixed. Anyway... any feed back will be appreciated.
Better.. was like utter crap before the last release.. battery was doing well and 4g signal worked as well as can be expected..
it's been great in Phoenix
It depends on your location. Some areas have great VZW coverage, others not so much. You should ask your local friends if they like their coverage.
However, I have found VZW has better penetration into large buildings. When I had AT&T + iPhone, I always lost signal at work unless I stood by a window. With VZW, my GNex rarely drops calls no matter where I am (of course, the two different phones may have been a factor).
You hear complains about the GNex radio and dropped calls/data, but you shouldn't let that sway your decision. Every model that comes out will have its share of units with constant signal problems, and the GNex is no different. Owners of such phones fill the forums with complaints & requests for help (legitimately so), which tends to give the phone a bad reputation. But the vast majority of GNex owners never have major signal problems. And those that were having signal loss with the original radios will most likely agree that signal quality has improved significantly with the latest firmware.
Thank you for those quick replies... I was asking because in some places I read is a bug with ICS and others that is the radio. I got a GS3 but i'm going to return it and get a Nexus till the new Nexus comes out.
I have good signal just about everywhere.

There are definitely areas where Verizon is not king. I spend a week or so in Torrance every year, and Verizon sucks there bigtime. In fact, I think ATT had LTE right on Redondo Beach. Or so I was told. I barely had 3G, although to my defense I was on JB at the time.
My experience has always been very good with this phone. This link says it all!
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/25921-this-is-why-your-verizon-nexus-signal-sucks/
I've learned to ignore the signal bars all together, as long as my texts and calls go through; which they do even when there's no bars showing.
4G is spotty on here, but I'm on wifi 95% of the time anyway, and on 3G the remainder...4G isn't worth anything to me really.
Cheers
I have no problems in Pittsburgh

Got kicked out yesterday. Sprint saw all my Roaming (PRL 1) and it also helped me the fact that there are a lot of coverage issues in the El Paso area because they are ¨upgrading¨ their antennas. In order for Sprint to waive the ETF their service has to be at less than 93% for 3 consecutive months in your area. In El Paso it is right now at 80 and it will be like that until october (3 months).
I have one rooted LGOG running Lifeless. Its brand new, I've only had it for a month (Sprint replaced my old one because my computer couldn't recognize it) and also have two Galaxy Nexus (one rooted running CM and the other stock).
If anyone's interested in any of those devices let me know. They all have clean ESN's.

They told me about the coverage. To load custom PRL's I followed the guide that's posted in the Q&a forum... Im already going to bed but if you dont find it let me know tomorrow and I'll link u up... Or you can buy my LGOG which already has the custom PRL lol... On the gnex was super easy with the lgog is kinda tricky!

Got kicked out yesterday. Sprint saw all my Roaming (PRL 1) and it also helped me the fact that there are a lot of coverage issues in the El Paso area because they are ¨upgrading¨ their antennas. Interesting. I roam constantly and am in a major metropolitan area (smack between NYC and Philly) but they've always tried to blame it on hardware. To that end, I've done my best to ramp up my unlimited data usage to try to make it an issue, but they don't seem to care how much of that coveted Unlimited 3G I suck up.
This month I am sitting at 40 gigs so far with a week to go. 40 Gigs of 3G downloads. It has not been easy....
ive got one with a cracked back and a bad esn ill sell cheap haha

LMAO! I am fairly certain that to get to 40 gb of download over 3g you would need to be awake 22 hours a day! That's the best thing I have ever heard! We should take up a collection on XDA to buy you a case of energy drinks to see if you can break 100 gb!

LMAO! I've used it as a hot spot on and off and was sure to download some massive 4 or 5 gig torrent every night only to turn around and delete it. I truly felt like I was sticking it to 'em. Oh, I also borrowed my gf's phone to join in on the torrenting. Her's helped pick up a little of the slack (6 or 7) I'm sure.
Keep doing it. They'll notice. Their policy says that if a subscriber is excesively roaming for 3+ months they will send a stop letter and will afterwards cancel the service...

The bulk of my downloading/data is done on their actual 3G network. I roam for sure, everyday, but when data roaming I am picking up what seems like a 1x signal. Data speeds of maybe 10-15 kbs a second. I almost give up trying to do anything with the phone during those periods....except maybe fire a game up.
Sprint deserves to take it up the A**! I take full advantage of my hot spot...

I would if it wasn't such a massive downgrade from my cable connection at home.
Sprint 3G = 1 MBs Optimum Online = 45-50 MBs
Until I see it on a day to day basis with my own eyes I am gonna call bullsh*t on this Sprint 4G LTE network they advertise and some of you seem to be able to enjoy. Bullsh*t on Sprint.
I am sticking it to Sprint. I am averaging 6GB/day (roaming data)

WoW! Must be nice! WiFi in my area gives me 1-2 MBs if I'm lucky! 3G averages 50 KBs...4Gs a little better but not by much and 4Gs a hit and miss where I live. I use WiFi at my girls house but I've got none at home so I just tether my Optimus G to my 7 and alternate the 2 on a charger. Its enough for simple tasks like Google+ and email.
