I dont think you can install it because it must be ported to Desire. As far as i know. so if i were you i would wait till a developers releases a custom ROM
I am waiting again

Spot on. There are elements of the kernel which will have to be updated/modified to work with the desire.
No disrespect, but why are you lot waiting for this to be ported when there is a rom built from source specifically for the desire by AdamG?
Would you not consider a rom built for the desire from source to be better than one ported from the N1?
Adam's Rom is the fastest and most stable yet. That counts for something.

Think it's just the terminology people are using, they just want the latest Froyo installed and that be that.
So there are 2 roms in the android dev section which are based on miui.
1. Galnet
2. DSJ
What are the differences between the two?
Also is anyone who's used this, blown their menu led? is there any way to get all four led's working?

At first both roms are only ICS SDK ports and not complete ics roms and I think if you want to see the differences between both you will have to install them yourself.
Galnet is developed by a team of developers and DSJ I guess is developed by the user "davidsonsjesus". Correct me if I'm wrong.
would you have any idea about the led? I would not like to blow off my menu LED just to test the rom.
Thanks
No, sorry, i dont use MIUI. I only use Cyanogenmod... So if you want to try a ICS you could try the AOSP/CM9 rom. But please dont try it if you dont know what to do! Its not stable and there are a lot of things that dont work yet.

they only have framework integratesd and the build.prop that says is 4.0.1 but are gingerbread! and are not compatible with any ICS app
ICS uses sdk 14 apps and ginger bread uses 10 so in the galnet miui or DSJ build uses sdk 10 that are based on gingerbread!

so do we really get anything significant out of the added ics framework, or just for the name sake???
is it worth having it and risk getting more bugs from it?
where can I get MIUI stable ROM for Defy?
The official miuiandroid.com says that Stable 2.3.7a version is available . But when I try to download it using download page, it has 2.3.5a version.

Can someone please just tell me what ROM is a stable driver for ICS on the regular TMO Defy?

I've read parts of each thread but there is no thread with a sum of all the roms and up to date info. It is impossible to read through 1000 pages to determine which rom is usable. Why can't someone just help someone out?

Why can't you just wait to let the devs finish their work? All ROMS are kind of pre-alpha status, so if you want to have a reliable phone, stick with your stock software. Elsewise try experimenting and find the ROM fulfilling your needs!
PRE-ALPHA? I didn't know they were all Pre-Alpha. Which one is the closest to daily driver but doesn't have every bell and whistle? I have a Defy as a secondary phone and want to give ICS a whirl.
Thanks

Ok and then is anything else necessary to get it working, IE new kernel, etc.?
Epsylon3's build from 19.03 is for the Froyo Kernel. You can use this kernel only with the Defy (green and red lens), not with Defy+. For Defy+ you need a build for the GB kernel (the latest being the one from 18.03 by quarx).
So, if you have a Defy and you're on the Froyo kernel and CM7 you can simply flash the 19.03 ICS build after wiping data, cache and Dalvik cache (and after flashing ICS wipe cache and Dalvik cache again). You'll also need to flash the new ICS gapps.
I assume you are familiar with rooting, 2ndInint, CWM and so on?! If not follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
Otherwise you should start over with this:
Flash a fixed sbf with Froyo from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537.
Install CM7 (latest stable) from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1553782
And afterwards CM9 from here: http://defy-cm.net/defy-cm9-nightly/
And don't even think of porting all your apps with Titanium to CM9 - this can give you lots of trouble. Just make a clean install. If you have any trouble just use the forums' search function 99% of the questions you may want to ask, have been asked and answered already. Don't be lazy
Read the threads next time 90% of them tell you the state in the 1st post, if you would read them you would know, why ask the same question a hundred times, it clogs the forum
teamwork makes the dream work
While everyone's developing forward into JB 4.2, I want to go slowly;
I've learnt from the HTC Desire that new may not always be the best; Back then GB was the thing and everyone had some 2.3.7 ROMs...
So, I'm wondering if CM7 can be ported onto our Xperias...?
It may not be useful, but there are some old ways of making a GB phone beat the shiz out of ICS+

It would require a lot of work but it's doable I guess? FXP picked up the S from cm9 onwards so I guess CM7 was seen as unnecessary
Well then, any idea how we can convince them it IS necessary?
Maybe a petition?
Y not go all out and rip donut off an X10i?
Sent from my Jellybean Xperia S
A good idea, but GB was faster...
Seriously, though, why not? The device HAD official GB, why wouldn't we have CM7?
That opens a whole new world for ROMs; on one hand 4+, and on the other 2.3...

Better still cupcake ? No but seriously, The FXP team are focused on 4.X onwards for the S, you could try asking other devs if they're interested or try for yourself? I think XDA university has a guide about how to compile CM for your phone
Here it is: http://xda-university.com/as-a-developer/porting-aosp-roms-using-source-code
Cool!
Just one problem; I don't have Ubuntu... Backtrack is pretty close (I have it), but I can't instal some of the programs the tutorial demands...
I've already tried porting CWM using XDAU, but failed miserably due to that...
I'll see if I can install Ubuntu in the linux partition (instead of backtrack) (I dual boot Windows XP and Backtrack), and I'll try downloading again...
Okay, so I've found a bunch of porting guides for all sorts of phones and Android versions, but they all require either an existing GB tree in GitHub or a GB zip ROM...
I have neither, but what I do have is the stock GB .ftf... But that can't help much, since, well, it's not zip...
I CAN extract it, but what next? Extract further?

Extract ftf using winrar
U can extract the system dump too from ftf
Okay, I may as well get a title here; NOOB ALERT ...
What's the system dump? I've heard it already a million times, but I never got the answer... It said somewhere that it has to do something with the bootloader, but I'm not sure...
Anyways, once I build me a GB ROM (I'm using this; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183832), I just copy and paste stuff (like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598713)?
Though I'll probably get to an issue with the camera and other things, since they're not exactly AOSP...?
This thread might as well be renamed to 'Tutorial' if I keep 'developing' like this xD
Hi @ all.
I want to start a support thread for all those unlucky ones who flashed a BL7-sbf on their green-lensed defy.
NOT the Defy+ or red lens, because the green one is the one for real trouble.
I am aware that you can always install a CM10 by quarx, but I wanted to have a more smooth and stable solution.
You should verify, that you are on a BL7. If you don't know what that means, you should not be here, Do not use these rooting instruction unless you know, you are on BL7. If you're questionning here, what are advantages, or disadvantages, or how you can find out what BL you have, please leave NOW.
This thread is for those who know what's cookin'.
I cannot stress this enough - be sure. search the forums. Don't flood this with useless questions.
I'll try to keep the first posts updated regularly, so that there should be no reason to read the whole thread everytime.
Now let's get started:
1. As far as I know, Froyo is no longer an option.
So, your options start with GB ROMs plus the camera fix. Please comment if they work and how.
I am sure somebody already built such roms.
2. You can also use a 2ndboot-based CM7 build like ms2ginger.
I don't know how many of those exist.
3. What I need you for:
Please add your own rom, when you know it's working on BL7.
Please add the rom you're using, when you're on BL7 with working SOC cam.
Questions:
It would be really helpful to know if ANY GB ROM will work with the camera fix.
It would also be helpful to know, if we should use custom MB525 or MB526 builds as base rom.
Working Roms:
1. MS2Ginger
2. tbc.
3. tbc.
First try (all flashed via custom recovery):
1. I managed to get a working CM 7.2, from early may 2013 with GB Kernel. (cm72-20120506-NIGHTLY-Defy+.zip)
2. Rooted via Defy+ BL7 method (sig)
3. Sndinit 2.3 (you should use 2.0, because some said they had problems with the 2.3 version) i am writing this a week later, so I hope this is correct
5. camera did NOT work
What I did NOT get to work (yet):
1. update-CyanMobile-eXperience-Defy-20130502-Release.zip
2. WajkIUI_multilang_3.1.27.zip
3.
Unfortunately "not working" means usually no more bootups, no way to get into custom recovery for restoring or reflashing, so you'll have to start all over again:
1. Flash first sbf (sig)
2. Flash second sbf for root (sig)
3. Install SndInit 2.0
4. boot into recovery
5. flash your new flavour
...tbc
for supporters
If someone managed to get a custom ROM to work, please provide following informations:
Build# of the "wrong" sbf
sbf's used for root (there are already 2 known combinations, CN & CEE)
used SndInit (should be greater than 2.0 i guess)
full flash instructions
which recovery used for wiping
which one for flashing
how many reboots
approx. duration of the process
ROM Version and build
Information about 2nd boot or 2nd init and when to set it
Does the camera work?
Please, ONLY BL7 stucking ROMs, this is a special thread for special cases.

Thanks, but this thread is GB-based ROM's only.
I wanted to have a snappier / more responsive / smooth ROM instead of feature-rich slow/laggy ones. - See OP.
To clarify: 2.3.x-based ROM's only.
Thanks anyway.

Confirmed working. :good:
Well, sorry for huuge delays, but I am now on MoKee 34.1 because Rom lags or responsiveness is no longer an issue on Android 4.3
(OK, i missed some features as well)
I might remove the restriction of GB based Roms, but basically every 2nd Boot Rom works so i might collect only Rom trees, no single versions. Any opinions on this?
