OK seeing that. I formatted mine(8G) in windows as FAT32. Does it make my read/write speeds slower or less storage because of the way it is partioned?

The phone formats in fat32 like the pc. So in that aspect no. The reason I said to format it in the phone is because the 64GB cards usually come formatted as exfat. Exfat is better in that is handles large file sizes, is more efficient and has better error handling. In a simplistic example it is like ntfs for flash drives. The issue is that no recovery supports it and none have it on the horizon due to licensing issues. So if you never plan on using the sdcard from recovery I would format it exfat. But by you being on this forum I doubt that is the case. Which is why I just recommended that he format it in the phone. I tend to ramble when I am driving so sorry if this is out there

How would you go about formatting it on the EVO. Settings>card>erase SD card?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Use RA recovery. You will see partition SD card. You have 3 choices. Swap-set to 0, ext-2-set to 1 gig and fat 32 for the rest. You have a big card so 1 gig ext-2 is good for apps to SD. Just make sure you backup what you want to save first.

is it a genuine Sandisk? there are a LOT of Chinese fakes on eBay, some barely work, while others don't work at all...
use any of the methods described in the other posts to format it, you can use either the phone or your computer.
good luck!
Thanks guys I formatted it thru my settings and then did a partition thru Amon Ra thing seen to be going ok. SO FAR. I hit the thanks buttons tomorrow when I get to a computer.

This is probably the case. A lot of flash-memory based devices on eBay have 128mb of usable memory and the controller continually overwrites it as it writes to anything above the 128mb ceiling. So... your ROMs would be bad, your pictures would disappear, everything would be broken after the first 512mb is full. Keep in mind that the file table would be in the first part of the drive so all of your files would actually appear to be on there.
Here's a good story with an example: http://technogra.ph/2011/05/05/man-...-drive-disguised-as-fake-samsungs-hard-drive/
Your right Jason. I formatted this thing til I was blue in the face and still no dice. Yup I got burned. Teaches me to not buy from the damn Chinese anymore.

I think that you should just format it as a fat32 and the evo will be able to read it.
I think....
~ I'm a fungI
with that size you might as well partition it for use with dt's a2sd

Its either fat32 or xfat for the evo to read all of it i think fat32 it will read 64gb but only write to 32gb and xfat it will read and write the entire 64gb

64 swap 1024 for ext.3 the rest for fat.being that you have a huge sd you can triple these values I have given you, but they are the standard Evo setup.

Thanks. Ill post the results.
Wasn't the trick formatting it through the phone? :screwy:
Makes my 32 look like nothing, LOL.
I copied everything from my card to my computer. Then I formatted the card through my computer, then created a 2gb partition through the recovery menu. Then updated the partition to ext3. Then I copied everything back to my card. Now I am moving all my apps back to the ext3 partition. Right now I have 33gb left
Still going strong. I've flashed, formatted, installed, and reinstalled Roms, files and apps with no problem.
The only thing is I should have gotten a class 10 instead of the 6. I have about 10 movies, 14gb of music and apps galore.

Yes. Put in the 64GB SD card, go to settings (storage), unmount, format SD. Your microSD should now be partitioned the right way to use it.

You have to format it in FAT32 with your PC.
If you Google it, you will find a little program that will do that.
I know there is a thread on XDA about this, but I'm at work and don't
have time to search for it.

Do you have a Blackberry around? That happened to my microSD when NOTHING at all would read it. I just stuck the card into a Blackberry to see if the card was broken. On the screen, there was a pop-up that said that I had a new memory card inserted and it asked if I wanted to format it. I hit yes, and all of a sudden, my microSD card started working again.
Can I ask where you got your 64gig card from and how much it cost? I would really like to get one. Thanks

Format 64gb. Sandisk micro SD to fat32

First and for most I am not responsible for anything that might happen to your phone, computer, or sd card. I am simply posting to help anyone ot there who might have an error with there new cards.
So along with alot of others who jumped on the 64gb micro sd sales I purchased from best buy. When I tried to get my phone to register the card which was originally extfat by default it wasnt recognized. So then I tried formating to ntsc to yet again fail. I finally tried to convert to fat32. What follows is a guide to get uou 64gb sd card to fat32.
First make sure you backup any info you might have on you 64gb. Card because formatting will erase EVERYTHING.
Second, connect your micro sd to a computer. I personally used the micro sd to full sd adapter that came with my card.
Third go to the following website
http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm
And download the gui app by clicking the picture.
Fourth run it. Make sure you select the right location to were your sdcard is.
Fifth click the allocation to your preference (im not sure what this is suppose to do but I set it to max roughly about 64-65) then make sure you select the right destination if not you can format your hdd on the computer. Then press the quick format and start button.
Sixth the script should take less then a min. To be done and have a formatted fat32 64gb microsd card..

How common is this issue? I've got a 64GB Sandisk with exformat in my T889 with no apparent problems (so far).
Im not to sure how common it is but I ran into trouble. I tried the default for the card then ntsc and it wasnt registering with my phone althought I must say I was running perseus kerenel with the memory swap script. Then after I formatted to fat32 it work. Not sure were I read on some other people running in to trouble with the same sandisk card until they formatted.

It'll format it but it says 27GB not 59GB so it's only seeing half of it.
Hmm. I dont even know there's an issue like this. I bought my card online 64GB Sandisk Class 10 during the Thanksgiving sales and its like plug and play since then. No problem at all.
I've gone through 2 64GB sd cards. They work for a while and then something odd happens. I write to the card but the file is gone if my phone reboots. Permissions issue maybe?

I was told that the ROM I have doesn't read a 64 gig card..the last time I tried to download a torrent I was told I didn't have enough storage space..I have 36 gig left on it..I downloaded the music, and I saw it was all there..right after I did a restart the music was gone...Do I need to reformat the card to exfat or fat 32? It is a Sandisk, I never formatted the card..I was told we don't have to format a Sandisk card, they come that way...I have a Note 2 from T-Mobile...

I just had the same thing happen to me..I downloaded a bunch of albums..they were there..then I rebooted and they were gone...but when uTorrent was downloading it told me I didn't have enough space..I told it to go ahead anyway...they made it but then disappeared..
I have had my 64gb. San disk for about a year and a half without any issues. I formatted the way I outlined in the first post and it has been smooth sailing ever since. I know that the first post could be a bit tedious but it is the RIGHT way. No short cuts. I did have an issue with some kerrnels. For example saber kernel from Jedi Roms says that it can swap your memory partition from external to internal and it does for about a week and then for some odd reason it just locks your SD so you can't download or delete any thing. The combination I have been using is an old school pegasus kernel with a memory swap script. I have been using that for a long time and not only is it the most stable memory swap, but the kernel has never messed up my SD either. P.S. just my 2 cents

Galaxy S3 and SD Cards

Hello Guys.
I've seen this problem on a few forums but no one really has the solution that might work for my phone. Whenever I add videos or movies to my external SD card, in a few hours or days my SD card starts acting weird. Some of the pictures get deleted or destroyed and sometimes I cant access my SD card with CWM. When I play the videos I can't fast forward (doesn't let me) and sometimes the movie plays for 2 minutes and then just starts from the beginning again. I tried formatting it several times in fat 32 and exfat and it gives the same problem. I tried using different SD cards from sandisk and still causes problems. I am currently using the 64gb san disk SD card. My phone is SGH-T999. Also, for those who are wondering, I did try different roms.
Any solutions?

64gb cards are fully compatible. If not, they wouldn't work. To the op. Contact SanDisk. I had a couple of 32gbp SanDisk cards do this to me. They sent me new ones for free even though they were 1 and a half years old. Now it works fine. I am using a 64gbp card now with no issues.

Yeah, I think the best solution at this point will be contacting them and asking them for a new one. But to be completely honest, I used a generic one and it gave me the same problems. Then, I thought I should stop using cheap crap and bought a SanDisk and still same problems. I guess the problem is in the device?
