CM9/10? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There are a few (or more) ICS/JB roms that are fully running without any problems on DHD. Why CM doesn't make one officially? I'm using CM7 and I saw many ICS roms running smoothly on DHD but I'm not going to try it because I don't want to loose my stuff on current CM7. So I'm waiting for CM to build an official one. Why don't they build it?
And I found out CM only build an official one when the manufacturer release a official new stock rom. Right?

...
yes. Its correct and CM's you are talking about are custom roms and that's why they are diffeerent. Release of official CM is unknown becouse kernel for dhd is not released

Right now I'm using official cm. If I wanted to change to an unofficial cm, do I need to wipe data off?

I guess you mean cm7. I would always do a full wipe before flashing a new rom. It might be ok if you don't wipe but it's not worth chancing it because you could get problems later. Backup your apps if you need to first if that's what you're concerned about.

[Q] Best rom? Revolution 2.0.8 vs CM6 vs CM7

As title says..what do you think is the best ROM? and why? I have finally rooted the DHD and I want to try something new
Pls suggests me
thanks in advance for the answers
Can't really comment on Android revolution as I have never used it, don't like sense and hadn't realised there was a no sense option.
Cm 6 is great and the latest release is very stable, but...
Cm 7 brings gingerbread I have had no stability issues, and have been running it since the builds where unofficially compiled from source, current nightly builds are great.
But everyone has different needs / likes, I have been a CM fan since I first installed it on my HTC Magic and it suits me, give Android revolution a go and see what you think you've nothing to lose except your time
yea you can't compare those roms
sense vs. clean 2.2 vs. clean 2.3
depending on what u prefer
some like sense, some like a full stable 2.2, some like to play test person and use 2.3 nightly
I used PNK22 for my day to day rom. For a time had no real problems with it other then no camara yet, this was and still is the only reason i am not using it today..

good
just a question..there's update manager or something like this in the CM7?
I mean, if I install build 18 then build 19 is released how can I upgrade?
download it from thread and flash or use rom manager (the paid version) to get notified and download it on your mobile + update

by simply installing the zip, you dont need to wipe anything as long as only a small amount has changed. Using rom manager or rebooting into recovery and installing zip with that will work.
but, if there is a large change you will need to wipe data etc. Just make sure you dont wipe your sd card
can someone give me a link to the "stable" version of cm7? the development forum is a bit confusing cause there are too many links of CM7 and I can't understand the one you are talking about
h t t p ://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=ace
There is not yet a stable ROM of CM7 for Desire HD.
I'm running Nightly Build #14 smoothly.
Greetz
i loved CM7, but i also liked the integration with sense so i went with revolution, but i prefer the gingerbread keyboard
I'm currently running Android Revolution 2.0.8 with a few customisations of my own and I love it. That said I can't use a ROM which doesn't have Sense UI.
If I could put up with not having the additions that Sense UI adds to a ROM, I'd probably be using a CM7 nightly.
It's Revolution 2.0.9 now (fast developer ), but I find this best for my needs personally. It's all about individuality, so try each one you like the look of and stick with the one that works best for you.

First time using custom rom

Using oxygen atm. LOVING it lol. A few things I'm sure will be fixed next update but its so much better than stock. Any other roms recommended to try? I got the custom rom f

I guess it's just as stabe as Oxygen.
And as far as I have read there will be no more updates for Oxygen before the OTA is out.
I have to say I haven't tried Oxygen, but I think they use the same source ?
Anyway rooting my Desire and putting on a custom rom is the best decision I have done for my phone. I have topped it off by putting on the CM7 Hboot, giving me lots of space for apps on the phone.

AFAIK Oxygen is maintened by AdamG.
Adam worked on OpenDesire earlier.

Yes maintained by AdamG, but the source is still the AOSP from Google.
And CM 7 uses that also.
They each have their own additions to the code, but I guess the core is the same.
I've also flashed Oxygen ROM first and than after sometime later MIUI-Au.
In terms of customization (UI, themes, options, etc.) and details, I can say that MIUI wins..
I'm glad I rooted my Desire since I don't have internal memory space issues anymore, only thing that maybe bothers me since I rooted my phone is that battery drains up quicker than with Sense.. maybe I'm wrong..
Redux RC6 - stable and fast. Im running it with the coutts .38 kernel and it's smooth....
There's always a bug somewhere for me and it is very annoying (no matter what ROM I use). So, I'm back to a stock Froyo (even though it is not my favourite!)

I did the same. i mean why to use a custom rom if you can't use your phone at 100% ( for example use camera or radio). ok you get more space, so what?
i have to confess i liked seeing my desire on gingerbread and if i find a close to custom full working rom i ll flash it again.

[Q] Looking for a working ROM

I'm tired of CyanogenMod, it there always seems to be something wrong with it, this there a custom Gingerbread Rom out there does work 100%? I am no expect on modding Roms but I am guessing CM team strips the original OS down and rebuild it, any that keep the working OS and just have some nice mods for it?
No, because there is no official Gingerbread rom for the Wildfire, ALL ROM's for it are built from source. (Or based on other ROMs, which themselves are built from source) (Except SFM, obviously, which is build from the Salsa ROM - But its not really complete for daily use as you know)

Thanks, so let me get this straight in my mind, 2.3.3 mod like Cm7 are built for other android phones who got Gingerbread officially? so they only way to get the kind of ROM I am looking for would be to look for a 2.2 ROM?
No, CM7 is built from the source code of the Android OS. Its not based on any phone's ROM.
I was assuming from your query you were looking for a GB ROM based on the official ROM, which is why I posted that.

From MIUI to CM9 . Confused abt GB & Froyo Kernel - Epsilon vs Quarx

I want to u update from MIUI to CM9 in MY DEFY.
My dbts are
1. Whats is difference between Epsilon vs Quarx Builds
2. What shuld i try GB cm9 or Froyo cm9 . (My MIUI currently show kernel as 2.6.32-gb)..
3. shuld i has to flash kernel after Flasing CM9 ROM
Hey
First of all dont use CM9! The project has stopped , Quarx and Epsy are only developing CM10 and its way better than CM9 simply get the latest Build
1.) Theyre both almost the same builds some people say Epsy's is better some say Quarx's is simply try it out(im using quarx he has more updates)
2.) You cant downgrade to the Froyo Kernel once youve been on the GB Kernel
3.) You dont need to flash a new kernel but you need to do a Fullwhipe and after the installation a cache and dalvik cache whipe

Thanks for the reply ... But i was asking which Version Wuld be suitable for me as i Have MIUI ....
And Dont knw that cm9 has stopped .. But i want a stable ROM and heard CM9 is almost bug free ...
and i dont want wanna try nigty version to jst check the ROM>.
go for the white rabbit. it is based on cm7.2 euro kang but i think has a sort miui theme sort of thing. it is the best rom i have ever used. i tired cm10 very slow and laggy compared to the slim and lean cm7. seriously you wont be missing anything by staying cm7 at least for the time being.
- does your Defy have green or red lens?
you can follow the instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29003033&postcount=1
as in previous posts, CM9 is not developing any more, if you want to experience JB go with the CM10 I used both Quarx and Epsylon builds, and Epsylon's was a bit more for me...
however, for the last week I'm using AOKP build which works best (and fastest) in my case, even with Nova launcher
its red bayer module .. i find it as a yellow shade and also with the image size .

[Q] update quantum rom with cm nightlies

I'm using Samsung Galaxy s3 i747 d2att....just flashed "[ROM][KERNEL][4.4.2/4.3] Quantum v3.21 & QuantumKernel 1/16". In the about phone settings is the option to update CM nightlies, same as a normal rom from the CM nightly does. This option seems to work as it does bring up available CM nightly roms for download. This Quantum rom is CM based. My question is "should I attempt to install a different CM nightly on this modded rom"? Do you think this option was just left in by mistake by the developer? My instinct tells me not to try it, but I'm not sure if this is an actual update option for the rom. I would ask this in the rom developement section but I am limited by posting rules. Thanks

I don't use Quantum anymore, but I think that's just left in there because it's essentially CM but with tweaks and optimizations. I could be wrong, but if you want Pwn's work, don't use CM's updater.

Thanks for your quick response. That's pretty much what I thought would be the answer, but I did see, in at least one instance, where he advised someone to flash to an earlier CM nightly to try to correct a problem. Thought that maybe that was kind of a standard procedure with CM based roms, & they could continue to be updated with nightlies without losing the tweaks. Thanks again for response!
