Question for you all.
I paid for a gn from the Google play store. Got it, love it. It did ship with 2-3 bad pixels. So I called Samsung and they sent me a replacement. Got it today. No bad pixels, but..... the screen color is messed up. The left side of the screen is normal but the right side has a reddish hue to it. No big deal, except it is. And its driving me crazy. Has anyone else has screen issues like this?
Also, this happens/happened on BOTH gn that I had. I have the stock jellybean wallpaper up, I open the dialer and let it sit there. Then I hit the home button and the screen still shows the ghost image of the dialer numbers, then it fades away. It is very similar to the image burn in of an LCD or Plasma TV. But it is faint and fades in a few seconds. Has anyone else noticed this? I have had several other android phones, and none did this.
Thoughts?

The ghosting effect is pretty normal however that goes away after awhile and doesn't always happen, something with the OLED screen. However, the reddish hue on the other half of the screen seems to be a problem as I've never heard of that happening before.
Exchange it right away. Many Nexus' have screen problems but there are those that are without any / minimal. I wouldn't settle until I got a screen without any discolorations and any ghosting, especially since it is new.

Hi. I bought a galaxy nexus today.
When i have the phone on and the screen is black then i can see some black parts(the screen is black, but there's some parts that are extra black). Is this normal? Or is the screen broken? Going to post a picture soon.
Btw my dad dropped the phone today. Maybe it's because of that?
Thanks in advance

This happens on my screen too. It is only really visible in a dark room when the screen is black like when FaceBook is loading a picture. I also get the black dots and a black line horizontally across the whole screen. I never really thought much of it because those pixels seem to work fine under normal conditions.

Normal.

Ive noticed it on mine too. Hasn't really bothered me since its hardly noticeable. I think it is worth mentioning that my dots aren't like single pixels. It is more like a blotch or a cluster.
I have a Galaxy SII (TMO) and sounds like this is similar to the issue we are all suffering from. Here's a link discussing it - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300133

Transformer Prime has tons of black dots.. i'm guessing it is the touch sensing stuff on the glass/under the glass
Has anyone noticed on low brightness and a grey or white screen you can see the stock.keyboard outline? Is this common or should I get a replacement?

I've got that too! Doesn't bother me too much though!
Yeah, the bottom half of my screen also is getting a slight discoloration at lower brightness levels. It's just the way these screens work - if you get a replacement the new one will eventually do it as well over time. I've resorted to minimizing the keyboard off the screen as much as possible when I'm reading text messages or whatever app it may be.
Will the One X or the S3 suffer from burn in? I had that problem with the SGS2. I was hoping it wouldn't happen to this phone. I haven't noticed any burn in yet.
I've noticed it as well. Never saw burn in on my epic 4g (sgs1). So I found it as a shock seeing it on this screen. It fades slowly but I fear when it will never go away.

Are you sure it really is a burn-in per definition?
You know what, read this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22792659&postcount=13
Excellent explanation by chopper the dog who says it's not a burn in.
So I understand this is a recurring issue with some AMOLED displays, but is anyone else noticing black splotches on your screen if you put a fully black image on the screen, turn the brightness all the way down, and look at your phone in a very dark room? I'm curious how common it is before I complain. I'll post a picture tomorrow if I can capture it. It looks kind of like an ink trail near the middle of my screen. Thanks!

I just checked my over 2 year old SGSIs screen and do not see any blotches. You are also the first person that i have read about that has any problems. That does not mean youeare alone however. I have heard many running 4.2 complaining about black artifacts being seen on the screen.

Some people here are having the same problem while others are not... luck of the draw I suppose... doesn't really bother me but if it bothers you try and see if you could get another in its place

I have them on mine; there are two splotches about 3/4" long roughly in the middle, just left of center. Doesn't bother me though, since I can't see them during normal use.
Had the issue on mu-tiple Samsung skyrockets...the original note and on the s3.
I have seen them on some note 2 but mine I have not found one yet.

I have a small one at the top left of the screen. My first one was right down the middle. My OCD took hold and I swapped it out. It's the same thing on my new one.
Sure, I wish it wasn't there but you really have to have perfect conditions to actually see it.
It actually has something to do with inconsistent electrical charge or something. There's actually a team for this but I can't remember it.
LCDs have dead pixels and amoleds have these splotches.
The DROID Razor is really bad as is the PS Vita. It's just that tech.

I bought my s3 yesterday. and Last night going to bed I have to play with again. I noticed when I have all the brightest low I could see a lot of black dots on the screen and a lot of black lines on the bottom of the screen. Is it just mine or your is too? Again I had my lights off and put the brightest all the way down on the screen. Then try on your phone to get a black picture and you will see. I took a screenshot of it but I can only see these black stuff with low bright. If this is just me I may have to return this baby
Common issue with this phone. Also on the s2

Yeah I noticed about the other thread. I got my phone yesterday and noticed it when I was in bed playing with it. I have the s2 t989 as well and that doesnt have the defect. I understand some of the old s2 have some defect on the screen color but this one is different. It looks like the digitizer was cracked. At the bottom it looks like a signature a bunch of black line and a lot of dots on the screen. Though when I put the brightest a little bit brighter its gone. It doesnt bother me. But This phone is new and it should not have any defect.
Common defect nbd. Not even close to how awful the backlight bleed was on my iPad 2 before I got it replaced.
I do Have the same issue but i'm not sure if goingto change my phone is under warranty!

known issue. However, my S3 doesn't have any or at least it is much much better than 2 my previous ones. (yes, I know how to check it and Im very picky; Im that kind of guy that goes to the closet to check the screen right after unboxing it). I didn't exchange my phone for this issue. i just happen to get a non-black dot one. Exchange it if you feel so. doesn't affect much tho.
This is on all OLEDs even mine, it is not defect and will not disrupt colors or brightness since they are visible only in pitch black, I don't even think they would replace your phone because of that

So I bought my galaxy s3 outright (meaning full price, I know, some will say it is stupid to do that, but it was Thanksgiving sale and my upgrade wasn't till next year and my phone only had gingerbread.)
After saying that, I bought my galaxy s3 and found out it had a few dead pixels. They were tiny specks that were barely noticeable. After 6 months of use, they increased. Now there are 7x more spots and some are even blotches. Very annoying. That being said, paying 500$ for a device, I wish it didn't have this problem.
How many of you have this problem too?
Note: The specks I am talking about are the black spots on your screen when viewing a black background area (such as loading YouTube video) in a darkroom. They are annoying.

SPRINT GS3 FAQ
I broke my phone a few weeks back and got a replacement from Asurion for $150. I got my original S3 for $360 off contract on eBay and never had any issues with it. Although I saw the black inky spots only when powering off the device when the screen went dark I could see them. Other than that I could not replicate the issue. Anyways, the new/refurbished phone had black inky blots that were visible in low light setting. I immediately called them and they sent a new phone that has no issues.
I was thinking about taking phone into sprint.. decided it wasn't worth it. Maybe the whole screen will just get black specks everywhere so it evens out.

I had the blotches, so I know just what you're talking about. I could only see them in a very dark room with my brightness all the way down when there was a black background. I took it to sprint within 15 days of getting the phone. They replaced it with a new one but it had the same problem so I returned it again. On my 3rd gs3 now and the screen seems fine.

I work with somebody that switched to an iPhone because his 3 replacement s3s all had this issue. It's annoying but it's not a game breaker. I only notice them on very dark grey screens and 99.9% of the time, it's when I'm booting into recovery or waiting for a video to load. It's not a game breaker because when I'm actually using the phone during the day I never see them. I told him he was over reacting but whatever, I guess some people can't get over their OCD.

I'd like to know what you guys are talking about. I seem to have some grey stuff going on the left side of my screen but only at the lockscreen it seems. All black background. Is that something with how the lockscreen behaves or are these the splotches you guys speak of?

I've got them too. This is my second S3 as I exchanged the first for a new one... It just sucks, every movie I watch on this thing at night looks like 101 dadgum Dalmations from all the specks.
Its not a game breaker. But don't pick on the guy for OCD. I have it and it drives me nuts. Trust me

As ascertain said above you, they're hard to see and they're best seen when the screen goes black but it still on, like booting into recovery. There could be any number or size of them on your screen, or none. I was able to see them in a very dark room with a my brightness all the way down and a black wallpaper. I also had lux to lower the brightness more.
A lot of people probably have them and don't even know it. My wife's gs3 has the blotches and she didn't know before I told her. A friend with an at&t gs3 has blotches and my first two gs3's had them. Pretty common, I'd say.
I have those black specs and I had them on every Galaxy S phone I've owned. I even had them on my Galaxy Nexus (much worse on the Nexus though). It doesn't bother me too much, screen burn in on the status bar bothers me more. -_-

My S3 has them, my Fascinate didn't and my Incredible didn't either. I have been flashing different ROMS/Kernels lately and noticed that with some ROMs/Kernels they are not as noticeable especially during boot. Hmm.
