Hey..
I downloaded Super Wipe for Desire HD, so I can install newer ROM, but after running it, it tells me that everything was a success, but when I restart my phone, nothing have been deleted, all my programs, rom, system files and everything else is still there.
Any ideas why's that?
ps. My phone is ****ed up, Sense not working, everything is crashing every second and so on.. I even have to restart it every 30 minutes so it works.. And 50% chance that It will not turn on, it will just vibrate 7-8 times and will stuck at HTC logo. That's why I want to re-install it.
EDIT: I just tried to delete some applications (swiftkey and others). I deleted them succesfully. I also changed wallpaper. But when I restarted my phone, all those applications were installed again and I had old wallpaper.. Maybe my phone memory is read-only?

have u flashed superwipe before flash the new ROM?
I'm not really good in this, all I did was upload the both, super wipe and rom to SD. I ran the Super Wipe thru recovery and it told me that everything have been wiped and phone restarted back in recovery. I saw in recovery that free space on phone memory haven't changed, so I tried to boot the phone normally and it worked.. I tried to wipe the phone about 5 times..

Did you get superwipe from here? http://goo.gl/hWSCt
Just in case you should redownload superwipe. Also download and install a different ROM like Blackout ICS: http://tinyurl.com/9rltovs
If you decide to install the Blackout-- you must use the AROMA installer to wipe and format. Also do NOT select the "FINISH" button at the end of the installation-- but hit your back button and select reboot from recovery.
In Gingerbread-- I like the CoreDroid v9.4 ROM as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965207&highlight=coredroid
You say you flashed superwipe, did you actually go into recovery and select install zip file? Superwipe will take about 3-5 mins to wipe everything out. Again, sorry if I'm being parochial, but I just want to be clear.
If that doesnt work do it manually.

Superwipe took about 20 seconds to delete everything (well.. to tell that it deleted, but did not really). And yes, I downloaded it from there. And yes, I installed from recovery by choosing Install zip file.
...
download revolution hd superwipe. It will help you. and change the sensor. IT's not expensive. :good:
I tried everything.. Starting from Superwipe and Recovery built-in wipe and ending with Factory reset.. Nothing can be deleted, settings doesn't save, everything is crashing, USB doesn't work (can't connect to PC to upgrade the firmware), its hard to turn on phone and so on..
I'm really starting to give up.

HI... i updated my phone with cyanogen 7 rc2, but after it booted up it's stuck in the animation that says cyanogen mod 7 , and the blue android sign... in comes than goes, again it comes... about 20 min stuck... what to do???
It sounds like you need to go into recovery mode and delete all your caches. If you are using ClockworkMod recovery do the following (make sure you are backed up first):
Delete all user data and info (under wipe data/ factory reset),
Wipe cache (under wipe cache partition),
Wipe Dalvik Cache (under advanced).
Then once you've done that try installing and running the ROM again.
i done that one time... for info im using AmonRA.. i cleaned all the cache and everything also... and installed again... nothing happens... fortunately i restored my nand backup and booted my phone with the OTA again... waiting for some answer.... do u think that installing stable version can fix this?
Sounds like a bad flash. I had rc2 running for a month or so with no issues. I've had times when the rom just doesn't install properly ans reflashing fixes it.
Download the zip again, if possible check md5 to make sure it's all good, make sure you have the desire/bravo GSM version, clear everything and flash just the rom and nothing else. If it boots, then go back and flash your gapps and whatever else you want.

thx for replying.. as i was waiting for your reply, i download the cm 6 that is a stable version and checked, it has the same problem too.. i also downloaded GingerVillain 1.6 and it had the same problem too. do u think the problem might be that my phone is "s-on"? and how should i know if my phone is s-on or s-off... when i was rooting my phone with unrevoked, i checked the option that says disable security, but i'm not sure if it's disabled.... because i can't install un-signed zip packages....
any reply?
That definitely sounds odd. Its definitely not an issue with S-ON/OFF, nothing you've done here requires S-OFF to work properly.
Lets just make sure you're following all the steps.
In amonra, you've done your nandroid backup, so no need to do it again. There's no point having a non working backup
Go to wipe and wipe data/factory reset
Wipe davlik cache
Wipe sd-ext (shouldn't need to do this one as you don't have apps2sd yet, but better to be safe)
Now you flash your update.zip, then reboot and you should be fine. The only other thing I can perhaps suggest if every rom you flash sticks at boot is to perhaps try clockwork recovery instead of amonra. Apart from that we might have to wait for folks more knowledgeable than myself cause I'm all out of ideas.
thx for reply.... in meanwhile , i s-off ed my phone and it has the same problem too... i have problem with all cm and gingervillain roms.. but i don't have any problem with leedriod... one more question that maybe the problem is that i have android 2.2 installed, but gingervillain and cm use android 2.3 ... this maybe the problem.... and that's why leedroid works right, because it uses android 2.2.... i'm going to check OxyGen roms... i will post the result here...
i also faced same problem CM7 .. i tried CM6 and it went on fine..
heyyy... right after i posted the reply , i went to recovery and wiped anything, then installed gingervillain 1.6, and everything's fine now... it booted up and now im setting it up.... im going to check the cm 7 too.
i tried cm7 rc2 ... and it was fine and now im using it... here's a how to for solving the problem...:
1.S-OFF your device with AlphaRev : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805811
2.Install the AlphaRev Recovery(S-OFF Image will do it automatically).
3.Go to recovery and install the rom...
4.Boot up and it should not go to system and it should stay in loop as the problem was..
5.Now you should reboot your device into recovery... there are two ways to do this... either take the battery off and put it on, then boot to bootloader by pressing the volume down and the power key and select recovery , or the second way connect it to your computer and start adb and run this command:
adb reboot recovery
6.In AlphaRev recovery first wipe the cache partition , wipe user data, and factory reset...
7.then install the rom (either cm7 or gingervillain)...
8. boot up , and now you have the system running...
This solved my problem... reply if it didn't yours...
hooo.. it worked for me now. just kept update.zip in a new SD card and not flashed google apps..
im very happy that i solved one's problem.. ... thread marked as solved...
*UPDATE* : now i realized that we can mark it as solved.. !!! hehe.. Admin do it for us...
Alrighty....seems as if I have some MAJOR problems here.
Background, I have a DInc 1, rooted using Unrevoked, and the only ROM I put on it was Cyanogen Mod 7. S-off is all set up, and there is the Superuser features have worked fine 75% of the time. Everything was up and running quite well for some time. Then this weekend, I installed a few different DWLauncher themes, and things still seemed to be ok. Sunday night, I installed Words with Friends, and that is when all hell broke lose.
Now, I really can't run anything. Apps are force closing all over the place, Google framework stuff is force closing and when I even try to report a problem, even that force closes. So, I uninstalled the Words with Friends App, and changed themes, thinking those were the culprits, but seems like the damage has been done. Nothing really works and everything is force closing.
Went into the ROM Manager (premium) and did a fix permissions and it gave me the "error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands" error. I ran it a handful of times, and it worked once last night. I thought it would have cleared a bunch of stuff up, but it didn't really help at all. Kept the phone off all night, and when I got to work this morning, I started working on it. Fine, time to ditch everything and start from scratch. So, downloaded a different ROM (Cyanogen MOD nightly), and also tried a few others, which it let me download, but when I click to install, no matter what options I click from wiping cache, wiping Dalvik, backing up or anything, it always gave me the same error. So, back to ROM manager, trying to boot in recovery, error, boot into CM recovery, error.
Edit, as I finished typing this, I tried to install the nightly one more time, but did not click wipe Dalvik, and it is installing things. As soon as everything installed, it was more of the same, apps crashing all over the place. I was able to go into ROM manager and boot into CM recovery, which is now allowing me to fix problems. So, it seems as if was working properly, for the first couple of hours, but around 10 pm, roughly 12 hours after the install, app crash-o-rama again. Also, from ROM Manager, when I try to flash ClockworkMod Recovery, it force closes.
So, I am kinda stuck. No matter what ROM I download, it gives me the same error. At this point, I don't care what ROM is on there (I do have preferences), but I just want the phone working again. Is there anyway to force a wipe and install?
Thanks in advance
You can, instead of installing the ROM through ROM Manager, just download the ROM zip file, put it on your SD card, do the full wipe/factory reset/dalvik in Recovery, then flash the ROM zip from there.
I've had issues trying to install a ROM that's downloaded from ROM Manager.
Here's what I do before flashing the ROM zip file:
Wipe user data/factory reset
Wipe dalvik (under the Advanced menu in Recovery)
Wipe /boot, /system, /data, /cache (under Mounts and Storage in Recovery)
THEN flash the ROM zip file.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the reply. It has been a long day of working on this phone. I have to pull my battery so many times, almost as many times as my blackberry.
I have installed about 4 different ROM versions until it would allow me to clean everything up, Dalvik and system cache, but as of now, everything is back up and running.....for now. Let's hope it stays that way.
If it doesn't, it seem like I will go the way of skipping the ROM Manager and just boot straight into recovery and do it all that way.
Thanks again
ROM manager isn't exactly reliable software. Most devs recommend a clockwork flash rather than ROM manager. Don't know why there are so many issues with it, but its pretty much not worth using to flash ROMs. It's fix permission feature is exactly the same routine that clockwork uses though. Updating the superuser might be something to try too.
ROM manager only wipes once and cwm3 doesn't wipe properly.... I've always read that you should wipe data cache and dalvik 3 times each before installing a new ROM wich is why you should use cwm.

Awesome link!
That you all for the info. I tried a few things, installed a few ROMS, wiped them each time, and back to the CM7 nightlies and it all seems to be working fine now. Let's hope it stays that way.
Next time I have problems, I will have to do everything out side of ROM Manager and see if it has a better result..
Thanks again
Actually this has happened to me, usually happens when installing or Uninstalling certain hardware.
After reinstalling my roms to get it to work right when it did it few hours later to infuriate me. The only thing that did work was booting into Recovery and install my rom again but with what the guy said.
Wipe all data, everything, factory reset.
Then install your rom, then make sure you don't install or Uninstall certain hardware.

I have 2 ideas.
1. When you boot the phone, just press the button instead of holding it down like most people do. It will still boot properly and should cut out any chance of it booting into H-BOOT.
2. If it still goes into H-BOOT even just pressing instead of holding the button then factory reset, clear dalvik cache and install the zip all over again.
If the problem still happens then go to the original RobotoMod thread and post the problem there so the developer can see it. He'll have the best idea out of anyone.

i tried again except this time i did a custom installation and did not install gappsextra.what you do is when it asks you if you want to install google apps...select install but in the next screen uncheck all the apps(there are only 3)....that should do it.

I'm having a similar problem
When I first installed RobotoMod I used the recommended settings, but after the reboot the phone just stays on the white HTC screen it was, at first i thought it was just loading, so i gave it a little more time (about 7 hours) but still nothing happened, so I tried using the custom settings and through multiple attempts and combinations all on the CM9 alpha it booted up, but as soon as it was done loading it put me straight into the lockscreen and wont unlock no matter what I do, I've tried AOKP but that just gets the 1st problem, and ive seriously tried everything and I haven't found anyone with the same problem maybe its just me, i installed using CWMR 5.02.8

SHG-T989 on TMO. I was running CM 9.0 but wanted to update to 9.1. NOW I CANT DO ANYTHING!!! Here is what I did:
1. Downloaded the CM9.1. 2. did a backup through CWM. 3. wiped data through CWM, "wipe data/factory reset. 4. wiped cache partition through CWM. 5. did a Darkside Super Wipe through "install zip from internal sd card" (last time installing CM9 i got stuck in the boot screen and had to go back using Darkside Super Wipe, reinstall CM9 and it worked fine). 6. Reboot to recovery. 7. installed CM9.1 through "install zip from sdcard". 8. installed gapps through "install zip from sdcard". 9. Reboot.
It came up and was stuck in the CM9 boot screen. So I went back in through CWM and tried to "wipe data/factory reset" and it wont work! Tried to go back to stock through Odin and it wont work! When i try to wipe data, the process starts and completes the "formatting /data, then gets stuck at formatting /cache. Does the same thing if I try to wipe the cache.
Im completely stuck and have no phone.
Which recovery version are you using? It might a corrupted recovery.
Try this recovery TWRP is cwm flashable:
SGH-T989_TWRP_v2.2.2.0.zip - 6.72 MB
Then TDJs super wipe and then install the stock ROM or any other ROM.

using cwm 5.0.2.7 did a darkside super wipe, flashed on a JB rom (P.A.Cman), flashed gapps (20121011), wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache, rebooted then got stuck on boot animation. rebooted back into cwm to try and wipe again and reinstall, no luck got stuck on formatting cache.
loaded up my nandroid which went fine, ended up installing twrp instead to see if that would help, rebooted into recovery and was stuck on the "teamwin" blue screen and wouldn't go further multiple times. so, put cwm back on (6.0.1.5) to see if the updated version would work. nope, same thing- can't do anything with the cache partition.
any ideas??
luckily my phone still works fine with the backup i made. running aokp ics build 40, streamline #27 kernel, uvle1 radio. been running that setup since july with no real problems, just wanted to try out JB finally and seems now i can't
any help is appreciated! thanks!

Ok, the wipe scripts in CWM recovery v5 are broken! Got experience there because I got stuck on the PACman ROM boot animation.
So, for factory reset, use Darkside Super Wipe. Install zip from sdcard and choose the wipe. From there, install rom, then gapps, and then use the Darkside Cache Wipe. After that reboot and it should work (hopefully)
However the most important thing is that the wipes don't work in CWM recovery v6! It will do bad things!
So yeah, use super wipe to factory reset. Use cache wipe for cache. But follow the instructions to install the ROM.

Similar problem, but cannot make zips to work - HELP NEEDED
HI,
I hope you guys can help me. My T989 got stucked in the splash screen when I tried to update to a nightly CM10 ROM. I entered into Recovery MOde (ClockworkMod 6.0.2.7), then tried to use Darkside Super Wipe... but apparently the phone cannot open zip files. When I hit install zip from sdcard and then select one of the zips (I have tried different ones) it says "---Installing: /sdcard/sgh-t989_darkside.supe.wipe.zip"... but it does not move from there. After 3-4 minutes it reboots by itself and gets back to the splash animation, but never goes beyond that point.
I tried to sideload using ADB, but the phone is not recognized by my PC.
As you said, I think that the recovery mode is corrupted... but I cannot install a new version using a zip
Is there another way to reinstall a version of CWM that allows me to install zips so that I can follow the process you suggested (super wipe + installing ROMS)?
Help will be very much appreciated
Thanks for your time,
Enrique

Do NOT use that darkside superwipes with CWM recovery v6.X.X.X. Does bad things.
Use the scripts only for CWM v5.X.X.X.
Anyway, the damage is done and bad things have happened... So maybe check here

Either that or you can search the forum and Google around and see what you can find. I am in by no means an expert, but depending if you can access the recovery mode or not might be the key here.

Tried your suggestion, but Odin won't recognize my phone
Hi there,
Thank you very much for the answer. I actually spent hours trying to find something before I posted my question. Even before posting I found and tried the method using Odin... but my phone is not recognized by Odin. I followed the instructions but on step 4 I actually do not get any "warning" screen... and then the phone is not recognized.
In the meantime, I can get into recovery, but I cannot install any zips. I have tried to complete a factory reset, but the process gets stuck at "Formating /cache..." and then reboots. When I try to install a zip (any zip, the radio, a new ROM, gapps,... any zip really) it gets stuck too.
Any other ideas? I really appreciate your help.

Either that or you can search the forum and Google around and see what you can find. I am in by no means an expert, but depending if you can access the recovery mode or not might be the key here.
I wish you luck, and hope that you don't have a very expensive brick.

Hi there,
Thank you very much for the answer.

The only other possible option I can think is to try and install another recovery....
However!
I have no clue how to do it, and in the end you might just end up making the issue worse.... Like hard brick it.
I might think of something later, but I don't know what else I can do for you. I will search around, but no promises...
Best of luck to you

Ok try here possibly

I have seen a few posts saying that they just install this recovery and then restore a backup.
Ok to be honest, try restoring a backup first and see if anything happens there, and then try this thread.
However like before, this may make the problem worse! Proceed with caution and read and understand everything before attempting.
Hope you can get your phone back to functional!

samsung jig
Thanks again for the answer. A couple of days ago I tried to install a functional backup that I had from CWM... but it does not work It runs for a long while, then reboots... but it still freezes on the splash screen (my theory is that the backup is not recovered, as I know for sure that the ROM I backed up did work fine)... I think that CWM is corrupted and not working properly.
Then I tried the solution from the thread you mentioned... but adb cannot find the phone when it is connected
I found somewhere that I can use a samsung jig (microUSB with a resistance) to make the phone enter into download mode, then reinstall CWM using ODIN and then try flashing a stable ROM... What do you guys think?

I've heard about the jig method as well, but have no idea on how to go about doing it. Might be worth a shot. I don't think the jig costs that much anyway. I will see if I can find anything later.

Hello!
After some fiddling around I have finally succeeded into installing the MIUI custom rom. (had a heck of a work around to perform because I forgot to put the custom ROM on my SD card first.)
Right now, I've got Clockwork Recovery 5.8.4.0 installed with the latest miui. Fastboot is also installed and working, and my phone is unlocked. The correct boot.img has also been installed.
It even boots. BUT. After it has showed the MIUI logo and goes to my home screen, it starts loading for like 4-5 seconds where everything still works, and it then stops. Crash. The screen freezes and my phone reboots. It seemed like a SIM card problem to me, but even removing the SIM card and booting my phone wont solve this issue. Does anyone have any clue what I can do?
Summary of installed software:
Clockwork Recovery V5.8.4.0
HBOOT 1.12.0000
Latest MIUI for One X (downloaded this afternoon)
Latest ADB Development Kit. (Not used though)
Latest Flashboot.
Factory Reset performed (Whole phone is empty except for above mentioned programs.
Thanks in Advance!
P
Erase Cache
While in Fastboot Mode .Perform This command
Fastboot erase cache
Should do the job for u!
I would suggest flash the boot.img again and then erase cache again. Will work
Tried it, but..
I'm afraid it didn't do the trick.
Even flashing another custom ROM (Android Revolution HD16) with it's corresponding boot.img didn't do the job. The crashing times have also changed now. It sometimes works for like 5-6 seconds into booting the homescreen, and sometimes it doesn't even reach it.

Did you wipe cache and dalvik cache? I think ARHD does that anyway, but might be worth doing the superwipe.
Oh, and if you're restoring system data or system apps with Titanium backup, stop it.
HBOOT!
I am afraid ur not on the right CID version for installing JB roms.
Please update ur Hboot
@ali3nfr3ak: Yes, I did a full wipe before MIUI. After every flash I do a Dalvik Cache Wipe, Factory Reset Wipe and Cache Wipe. Even the fastboot receive a cache wipe after every flash.
How do I update my HBOOT? The rest seemed pretty straight forward, but there are tons of versions out there, and I do not know which one I should be taking. And what is CID? I've also been having troubles porting a Super Wipe toward my mobile phone. Can a Super Wipe be performed within fastboot/recovery?
Haha and no, I'm not using Titanium Backup
Right, I've succesfully restored my phone to it's old state. Flashing MIUI again provided the same error. Could it be that my hBoot is out of date here? My One X still has the 4.0.4 android version, whilst MIUI is based on 4.1, right?
Change the rom, miui isn't good.
