Block Internet for a single app on a single network - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hi,
I use tTorrent to download big files when I'm at work (we have a fiber connection, there's no problem). I set it on Wifi only, but I owuld like to prevent it from downloading from my home network (I don't have a lot of bandwidth allocated). Is this possible? I know that the app can't do it (didn't expect more anyway) but is there an app who could do that for me?
I tried blocking the tTorrent port on my router but I can't figure out how :/
Thank you!

This sounds like a job for TASKER!! lol AMAZING app and really one of the main reasons I put up with a lot of android BS, and not move to the iPhone. Be warned Tasker is scary at first since it SOOO powerful, however after some reading and youtube videos I was up and running, examples of what I have it do.
on random times of the day Tasker will send a text to my wife explaining how much I love her.
When I launch camera, or gallery the brightness of the screen goes all the way up, when I launch the camera NFC enables.
When I launch a web browser screen rotation turns on, when I leave it turns off.
at 7pm the phone goes in to auto reply mode explaining to any would be textures and callers I'm working out and I'll get back to them soon
There's one I found that if your going over 5MPH auto text will turn on and will explain to people your driving.
Sleep mode after 12pm and off at 7am
Tasker & astrid make for a wonderful location based reminder team!
Locale is mch like tasked only VERY VERY simple, and you will be frustrated at the fact that you cant to 1 tenths of what Tasker does. lol
-------------------------------
these are very basic commands, there are MANY MANY more.
Dont forget to hit THANKS!

You could also do this at the network level. Set up a static reservation for your phone so that it always gets the same ip address. Then block the port(s) that the program uses for that ip assess address. Net result is that the firewall will prevent the connection.

LBE Privacy Guard is your best solution. It has individual app firewall, and app permission manager.

That tasker app sounds like it makes life a little easier. I'm going to have to check that out

thanks any way. but what i want is in a specific time, not a location , i don't want my cell to turn on the wifi when i play with my laptop to drain my battery at home.
i have ur same problem is there any program to turn on the wifi on every 1 hour for 5 min and sync emails and other stuffs right after that???
it would be great if it was able to wake up the device at time interval and:
* turn on wi-fi
* check if there is any free or previously authorized network available
* ability to play an alarm
* update the updatable (or facilities to run/create scripts)
* quit wi-fi
HTC is working on something like push internet..
but lacking of the choice of initiating wifi.

Check PocketZenphone. It used to do a lot with profile settings. I gave up on it a while ago. Still going strong, last time I checked.
I'm searching for the same application.
Personally i just have a good data plan.
This kind of thing is done for me all day long...
You looked at SKScheMa?
I tried it before I had a decent data plan. Turned WiFi on at 7:00 am, then ran Egress Update at 7:01 and turned off WiFi at 7:02. That way I had all the latest road/traffic news ready for when I set off for work!
you can still have this very special functionally with mortscript for free.
the language is very easy and intuitive. give it a try.
try g-profile. I'm using it for some of the tasks that have mentioned.
Hmmm it could be done with a bit of playing about with a profile application such as G Profile, ( http://www.ageye.de/ ) then simply set up a time triggered profile that'll turn on your wi-fi and open the programs you want to up date, then swithes to the normall profile (which has the wi-fi turned off) after half hour or so (possibly once your alarm has gone off. You may have to set the programs you want to be updated to update on connect for it to work but basiclly this should get your device to do what you want, it's just a matter of going through your settings
sorry, but forget the profile solution. it wont work. how do you want to tell g profile or another application that it should click on "update now" or "Send/Receive"? there is no way. all you can do is to launch ONE programm. thats all. you cannot define any behavior.

Anyone got a Mortscript example that could be modified?
True, but if you set the application to update it's slef whenever it's open on update when connected it will

I have happily been using PocketZenPhone for many years, with a variety of HTC devices. However, I can't seem to get it to work properly with my Blackstone. Is there anybody out there who is sucessfully using PZP on their Blackstone?
Abram - did you give up on it for a reason? Did you find another program to use instead?
sounds genius ,

Best app for profiles...llama/juice defensor etc..

looking for a good app that will turn on Wi-Fi when I get home automatically and turn it off when I leave house, lower ringtone when I get to work.
I had llama, how long to train, kept finding different cells, and wouldn't run events unless I reminded it.
I don't want juice defender, because I don't want to turn off data. I found a delay of a second or two everytime I turned on screen, not for me.
Any other apps? Or any good experience with llama?
Thanks

Tasker.

I'm currently using Tasker for such tasks. I've also used Locale on my original Droid and it worked fine. One difference between them is that Tasker has more built in tasks while Locale uses more add-ons (which Tasker can also use). Some add-on apps are free on the market and others are paid apps.
The two also have different interfaces, and I get the impression that Tasker can be set up to do more complicated things, but for the types of things you mention I think either would handle them fine.
I have been using setting profiles on my HTC Incredible for a long time. Just picked up a SGN today, havent installed much yet, as I plan to root it, but will continue using it assuming its compatible with ICS

[Q] Juice Defender Ultimate and Gmail...

Hey guy's was wondering if any one could help me out. I just got my S3 about a week ago and I've been on stock. Been waiting for a rom that I like and for now I just wanted to see what Touchwiz had to offer (along with apex launcher ). I heard great reviews about Juice Defender to help keep battery drains to a minimum. The question I wanted to ask was, Is there a way to allow gmail to constantly be able to get emails to my phone while still saving battery? My fiance is in England and our "texting" is through emails. Me wanting to save battery life I grabbed juice defender because it allows me to save battery while keeping the phone connected periodically. I know that there's at least a setting I could use/set up but I really don't know how to calibrate it well enough.
So I was wondering if anyone had suggestions. Or at least settings I could go off to get at least to get the least amount delay between an email. At the moment, even with juice defender allowing gmail to be enabled with screen off, I still have to go into the actual app and do a refresh to check to see if I got an email or not. :silly:
Thanks Guys!!!!
Juice Defender is not a good choice for you, based on your criteria. You need to have data on all the time, you would need to disable the option that turns it off.
In my opinion, uninstall it. You can control wifi and bluetooth with Tasker.
Since you paid for JD, it has an option to customize on a app-to-app basis. I use it and turn the radios off this way.
Options for JD+ radio kill are as follows:
E = Enable
ESo = Enable/Scrren Off
D = Disable
DN = Do Nothing
Go here for a more detailed explanation of how I have mine set up and then you can also read the OP (specifically post #3 for more on JD) of that same thread for even more info.

Hmm thanks Great thread to read through! I guess I'll try and look through. I did have J.D on my old Vibrant some how I was able to get notifications for my email almost instantly. I'll just check that when I get home. I keep switching between custom and advanced to set up Priority times lol. But thanks for the info I actually ended up taking off 3 widgets because of that post! Thanks
No problem man. Glad I could help.
Also as a side note, if you are "chatting" with her, why not use GTalk? It runs through your Gmail account and if she has a front facing camera, you can even do video chat. Just a thought. It has a status bar notification too.

We use tango but i have though about it. The reason we dont is because she's a paramedic. And with the time change from Florida to England (5 hours) its difficult. LOL but mehh we make it work. On a completely unrelated note. Do you think you could be able to help me out with something? Its about Titanium Backup. If you could help that would be cool lol if not ill go surfing around
Been there done that. My college GF was in Spain for 3 months studying abroad (+8hours). This was long before Android and Gtalk and all that. I was still a hotmail user at the time and pre-paid phone cards.
PM incoming about your TiB question.

Xperia ION 40 hours of battery life

My Xperia ION AT&T lasts for about 38-40 hours on WCDMA only and constantly active 2 sip accounts through Csipsimple (on WIFI and WCDMA), plenty of sip and gsm phone calls and internet usage. I am on T-Mobile and have all LT28i bands including T-Mobile's 1700 band and LTE.
Here is what worked for me:
First of all, I flashed generic deodexed 6.1.E.3.7 firmware, which is available on this forum. This took care of AT&T bloat. What I also discovered was that in AT&T firmware radio signal is weak. As such, when I went to *#*#4636#*#* and into phone information, I noticed that the signal was jumping all the time from HSPU to UMTS. That wastes a lot of battery power.. Second of all, I got rid of Google and some Xperia own bloat. I uninstalled or disabled (using Root Uninstaller) the following applications:
About PlayStation; All wallpapers I don't use; Android Live Wallpapers, Google back-up restore, Bluetooth Share, stock browser, bubbles, calendar storage, chrome browser (I recommend Dolphin--fastest and less battery consuming), com.android.providers.parterbookmarks, com.android.sharedstoragebackup, com.sonyericsson.appshare, com.sonyericsson.newsoftwarecheck, com.sonyericsson.warrantytime, connected devices, content sharing, cosmic flow, crashmonitor, devicemonitor, download music info, drm protected content storage, drmdialogs, stock email (kaiten mail is much better and has open gpg), enchanted forest, event stream engine, face unlock, all facebooks, friends music, gmail, google account manager, google backup transport, google services framework (you can still have access to google similar to that on a regular computer), hdmi (can enable if need to), help, learning client, mono, movies, musicFX, my uploads, network location (still have access to internet), neoreader, news&weather, nfc service (can enable if need to), notes (instead I use NoteCipher), OMA clients and services, play now, poBox Touch, protectedMedia Scanner, QC SEMC Service, R2R client, RRetail Demo, remote control service,
smart search, sony select, google play (I use Aptoid), Sound recorder (can enable if needed, otherwise, I don't want google to listen on my surroundings), swiqimasterreset, tags, talk, all timescapes, twitter and tv launcher, update center, bunch of verifycertificates dummy apps, wisepilot, and all google applications such as maps, earth and others. I use Sygic as main navigation. It is second to none in my view.
I also use LBGuard with phone ID availability disabled for all applications including system ones. As far as positioning, only Sygic is allowed to use it (prompt to allow only), I have a tight leash on all applications as far as internet access. Only Sip client, Skype, Dolphin and Aptoid (only when I use it) are allowed to access internet. I use adaway with Dolphin. It works like a charm. Even adaway is not allowed automatic updating (I do it manually once a month). LBGuard is also not allowed to access the internet (why?). I also use Total Screen Control with brightness set at 60% (it is enough for indoor lighting). I put a small widget on all screens, which allows to disable the setting in bright light.
And the result speaks for itself. Here is a screenshot attached.
Again, I have 2 sip accounts active all the time, plenty of sip and a little voice talk. I can access internet and everything that is available for a PC... It works for me.

You can't calculate this way.. Plus it's charged twice in this 16 hrs.. So no ways 40 hours.. Useless thread..

Agreed with Harsh. And most importantly you should've posted this in the battery life thread which is existed in general section already. Nothing new here, so creating another thread about battery life is not helping.
And since the screen shot is showing 3 times of charging, so there's no point it it.

I clearly posted a wrong picture. I apologize for that. I am doing a fresh test and will post a new picture in about 24 hours.
The point of the thread, though, is about bloat applications from AT&T and Google, which waste battery, have very limited benefit to the user and hugely intrude on user's privacy. BTW, you don't work for Google? Do you?

Here is a new screen shot. It shows that 10 hours and 25 minutes took about 28% out of the battery. And keep in mind I could get more hours if I disable my 2 sip accounts. Also keep in mind that I am on WCDMA only, which eats more battery than GSM signal.
See, I was right you were affiliated with Google. I kind of figured out that you were a bit offended by the idea that 80% of Android is actually nothing more than malware/spam/tracking/spying. Best to you and your brother. I didn't mean to offend any person. However, in my opinion, Android, as it comes out of the box, is a deeply flowed operating system solely due to the fact that it is developed by Google. Also, about bloat: when people talk about bloat in the context of smart phones, they mean operator branding. I am talking about Google bloat, which is larger than all operators' bloat taken together. It is larger and more dangerous, because this garbage is embedded in the system. That is my view, which is by the way, shared by quite a few...

There are threads regarding battery life, therefore I'm closing this thread.

Possibility of Android networking hardware being physically disabled via ifconfig.

Using ifconfig Android to enable or disable a network device will effectively control it's powered state. I know this because I am an advanced Linux user. The basic function of ifconfig is the same between devices/architectures, and since all Android devices are based on Linux, i see no reason why this cannot be done.
Currently, when you shut off your wifi or mobile data, its never really off. To confirm this, I shut off my wifi, turned my phone to airplane mode to make sure I wasn't connected, but when I arrived home again later, I still received a couple of new messages from my yahoo mail and kik. My first though was "... The heck?" I knew I wasn't supposed to be able to receive anything. I even had autosync turned off also for good measure. I couldn't explain it at first... Upon checking the timestamp, it revealed to me that I received the notifications the exact moment I arrived home, but the original Sent time from the source is when I was not home. Remember, all data was turned off by me and I did not receive anything the entire time i was out. (airplane mode, and i have no active phone service)
I double-checked and surely enough, my settings were still all off according to what I could see and verify. That tells me it's not really off and it knew I was home and connected to wifi anyway briefly, even though I had it off. That tells me that even though I turned off the wifi and mobile data and set the advanced settings to never "always allow scanning even while turned off" for location services, its STILL on!! Unacceptable. Deceitful. Wrong. When I tell it to turn off I expect it to stay off, dang it...
Talk about unexpected battery drain. Imagine being comfortable in knowing you've shut off all these things, to then find out later that these settings are present just to trick you in to letting your guard down! The question is, why would Google put in place these settings if only to be overridden anyway? There is no reason except their own sneaky one.
My goal here is to recruit someone to build an app or widget for rooted users to physically disable the device via push-button widget or app, not just disassociate from any given wifi AP or mobile data service. (wifi_dassoc kernel command) Anyone with some spare time and knowledge of Android programming and use of ifconfig is welcome. I welcome more than one person also. A team even... Haha. You guys converse and figure it out. I'll be watching, and Thanks! Hope you find this to your liking and interest.
