Since 4.1.1 WiFi turns itself off sporadically. My sleep policy is set to never.
I did a search and found the the "My Vodaphone" app was causing problems. I've never had that application, Vodaphone is not my service provider, and I live in the U.S.
Has anyone else had this problem and figured it out?

i have the same problem
Seems to happening extremely sporadically for me. Like maybe once every few weeks I'll catch it turning off WiFi when the screen's off.
i have the same problem, for ex. whilei'm watchimg a u2be vid the wifi turns off every 30sec-1min... i'm running stock jelly bean
Looked at some logs. It doesn't seem like there is anything external turning WiFi off. Seems like it just does it all by itself, even though I have WiFi sleep set to never... Maybe it's just a bug in 4.1.1 where you set it to sleep never and the setting doesn't stick? But then the issue should be more wide spread.
The few times I've caught it in the log, it happens generally right before the PicasaSyncManager process. I have Google photo sync disabled but instant upload for google+ enabled. I'm not sure if they use the same upload process though...
Anyone have any advice?

Whilst your sleep policy may be set to never, it could be that avoid poor connection is checked and causing the issue. Also, if Spare Parts is installed, sleep policy must be set to never in it as well.

Avoid poor connections is off.
wifi frequency bands is set to auto.
i do not have spare parts installed.

you are flashing a custom rom through stock recovery? how is that possible? you need a custom recovery to do that. try flashing one using unrevoked. and a few more details about roms that works and radio+hboot could be handy.

Hi there.
I am experiencing an issue with Google Talk provided in the latest GApps package (20130209) along with Paranoid Android: The app seems like can't connect to the server, i am always offline.
I am running Paranoid 3+ (15FEB2013-011710) 4.2.2 on Galaxy Nexus.
Could it be the app stopped to work properly because i am running 4.2.1 GApps in the 4.2.2 build of Android?
Just checked with a friend of mine; He runs version 4.2.2 of Google Talk, i have 4.2.1.
Edit: Just extracted Talk.apk from 4.2.2 stock (deodexed) but unfortunately this doesn't fix the problem.
Thanks in advance for the help!
Yea my Google talk force closes when I try to video chat. I'm also on paranoid android 3.0.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
After extracting the newer gtalk, did you uninstall the other first and wipe its data before installing the new one?
R: [Q] Outdated GApps? (Google Talk)
Nope, just replaced it then wiped dalvik cache and app data.

R: [Q] Outdated GApps? (Google Talk)
Sorry for double posting.
Updated to 20FEB2013-012602_BETA, nothing changed.
› Tapatalk 2 on Galaxy Nexus
Im not sure about the Rom beta, but that could be a known issue.. Is it actually a deodexed version of gtalk, or did you just remove the .odex file? I would uninstall via the applications pane, erase the app's data cache, then try reinstalling and making sure permissions and ownership are right.
R: [Q] Outdated GApps? (Google Talk)
Deodexed!
I tried everything you suggested but i can't unistall it, just "disable" it (i guess because it's a Gapp?)
Permissions rwx-r-r ownership root/root.
PS: After flashing the last ROM update i flashed back the previous version of the GApps.

permissions should be 644 rw-r--r--. Change them with a root file explorer / browser and reboot!

Nothing changed

Hmm. I'd still be trying the newest gapps version. Disable the one you have, clear the app's data, place the newer one, verify permissions, enable it, reboot? If not, then I'm not sure i have any other ideas.

At least we tried
Not sure if this is any different than your attempt at extracting/overwriting talk.apk, but you could try flashing this gapps package instead of the one linked to on the paranoid thread.
Meisanerd: I don't see those gapps containing google talk?
nmissit: What if you disabled gtalk and tried to get it from the google play store?
Or, I have another idea. Do you know how to logcat? Start a logcat and then open google talk, and maybe itll give some error info. Or you could cat last_ksmg I believe..

I use the basic one, and it has Talk.apk included in it. I think it might be a required file for the google stuff, as it seems to be in most of the gapps I have flashed.

Flashed gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip, nothing.
Flashed the ones you suggested, still nothing.

No Talk on the Play Store!
About logcat, nope. I tried to access via the adb and DDMS on the SDK package, but when i plugin the USB into the notebook i get this message on the phone: Fastboot command read error -2147483647
Maybe i should try on my Windows VM with the official toolkit..
Anyway, i have a theory: What if something in that ROM is blocking my gTalk outcoming port?
I've got a thread about that fastboot error: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2126686. Anyway, that's not for adb, that's while in bootloader / fastboot mode. But you'd have to set up adb in a similar way [on linux]. Adb is while android is booted, or in a custom recovery.
I can't believe talk is not on the play store. And yes, it could be the rom, which is still in beta, correct? Anyway, if you get adb working [adb devices and connected output], try adb logcat from a terminal, then launch google talk, and press control +c whenever you're ready to stop the terminal and examine the output.
When i tap "See others by Google" on the Store, i can't see Talk
Okay i did the logcat! (With an App found in the Store)

Google Talk has never been on the Play Store just like many other google apps.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=35357
Couldn't that just be a problem on your particular network that is not accepting the Gtalk XMPPConnection ?
R: [Q] Outdated GApps? (Google Talk)
Both on mobile data and WiFi? I doubt!
› Tapatalk 2 on Galaxy Nexus
Glad you got a better idea of the issue, and that you're not the only one with it. What's the fix though? Are you using a netgear router? Can you try turning off WMM in router settings? Anything here work for you: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=35352?
I see its affecting you on mobile data as well.. Is there a bug log for PA that you can post to? I'd try a clean reflash, but i do not know that will help.
I have an old HTC Vision I want to use while my daily driver gets repaired. It is in good condition. It sits in a safe most of its life, and I have taken it out twice to use as a temp phone for family visits.
I used this phone well before I was knowledgeable about Android and do not have proper backups from that time (we are talking 3+ years ago). I had flash an updated ROM (2.3 -> 4.x) foolishly before my family arrived without doing a backup; the first time I did not expect to take the phone out of mothballed state. Everything worked except wifi. It always says searching for network, and no active or inactive networks are ever listed; it just hangs there. They were not using it for anything but phone calls, so no biggie.
Now, I need it. Not sure what happened I have tried flashing different variants of CyanogenMOD or AOSP from 4.x. I had the same problem persist with full wipe and resets and everything. So, I knew I must have screwed something up. Lo and behold.

I have tried my Google-fu and cannot determine what to do at this point. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue? Rather:
Do I need a properly formatted ipconfig.txt? Can anyone send me one?
What are the proper permissions for the /data/misc/wifi/wlan0 file that cannot be accessed?
Any other troubleshooting tips or workarounds to fix this nonsense?
Please help, this has been driving me nuts for two days and I am not that amateur!

So that did not go so well. I also tried Wifix 1.2 as recommended in this other thread and from a Mimcry dev, but it seems to do nothing either. First off, the permissions are bad.

It turns out maybe this regional regulatory domain stuff that Wifix has does work. So, two things in my case.
Was not using the most updated version of Wifix Manager. Download and install 1.32.
In the advanced settings, from many different recommendations on threads, set country code to EU to open all wifi network channels.
And now, the phone finally has wireless. I guess those error messages in the logcat led me to far astray. Everything works now.
Anyone else experiences android.mms crashes when they try and mms?

Hello.
I have installed LineageOS 13.0 on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GT-i9250). I use it for running Whatsapp (over wifi) and connect over Whatsapp-Web.
Sometimes it happens that the smartphone freezes and I have to reboot by unplugging the battery. The "asdb logcat" log is attached (XXXX was http). How can I avoid this? Thanks.
