When I downloaded that file here, it shows up as a green Android picture. It should show the blue icon for Contacts/People ?
I used root explorer and go back to launcher and its empty. Can't find the people icon in app drawer anymore.

Did you restart your phone and then try reinstall the apk?
Just tried again, totally screwed up phone. Now my launcher shows two little green Android robot icons. I press them says no application.

I am just looking for an inverted black themed people/contact app, but still keep the original blue icon in the launcher.

I believe this contacts APK only works with 4.0.3 ROMS.

Yep, did all of that. Used root explorer, move .apk to system/app and replace and set the permission stuff, etc...did not work.
But I have done that same thing a million times for other files with zero issues, like Mms...

Worked for me but couldn't get the andy metamorph to work with contacts so I went back
Its a shame someone cannot refine any of the inverted contact apps. They look good until you want to edit or create a new contact. The headers are white on white font and entry fields have black on black cursors.
and if you hit the photo or place holder in MMS the contact info comes up bright with odd font background colors.
Inverted MMS & Contact apps are beautiful things but they still have some clean up to be done.
I hope someone with the skills is listening.
I need a modified Mms.apk with a bit more settings for tw based ics rom can someone post it?
Or which ics tw rom has it so I can pull it from there
What kind of settings and customizations would you like to have? More details would be helpful for us and for you so you get a better answer.

The one I am thinking of has something like vibrate "only on silent". Also had emoji and such
I'm running aokp and the stock mms.apk comes with all of those settings by default. Try pulling out from there. Otherwise in the themes and apps section there are a few threads that might have what you're looking for. One is the jelly bean stock messaging app and the other is a modified messaging app with the word holo in it somewhere.

Hello guys I'm sorry I looked all through here but I didn't think any of the ones I saw in the app section were the kind I was looking for could someone point me in the right direction?
Also I can't seem to find the darthstalker ROM?
Sorry again for my n00bness.
Thanks for your time!

I can't help with the messaging app, but all roms are in the dev sections.
gosms app is what I'm using till i find something better. It's 3rd party, but free & customizable if you've got the patience for a little trial & error. I'm still hoping to find a transparent stock mod soon myself, but i just started looking recently.

I'm not aware of any modded stock messaging app that is transparent (but there's a lot I don't know!), but could you help me understand what you'd want?
You say you want a "transparent background" messaging app. Is that one where, when it is open, you see the home screen underneath the text bubbles? Or just the wallpaper? Or would it see any previously opened app? I don't know enough about modding apks to do anything about it, but if you could clarify what you're looking for, it'd help give people more solid ideas on what to develop.
I will tell my team about the transparent background and I'll see what we can do . amiblindyet me and misty I will update you in the morning to see what we can do!!

I mean I could open app>settings>background & pick gallery & use the same pic I have for my wallpaper & it looks trans until threads & conversation bubbles totally block the wallpaper.

So you want the background and bubbles to be transparent... I would assume that you want the background 100% transparent and the bubbles something like 70-80% transparent.
I'm ignorant on this, but I've heard that you can decompile an apk and replace the assets in /res folder. I'm not sure if it's possible with these items, but that would be the place to start.

And yes background 100% (in case I ever go back to a live wallpaper) & since I have a black area & white area on the wallpaper(both horizontal) maybe some holo blue for text so my text won't vanish when I scroll up & down. kinda like tvshow faves trans widget text color. Ive noticed that blue looks good w/my wallpaper. Bubbles maybe 90%. trans. I'd better quit while I'm ahead. Thank you for your time, consideration & efforts.

Is there a way to get the notification bar when it drops down to be glassy like the new thing that shows up in iOS 7 when u swipe up and it shows some quick settings and stuff? I think it would look better than the dark grey see thru color.
Lots of ROMs let u chose a custom background picture for that, find a picture like that and use it or create one, you can even maker it semi transparent if you like...

I have been through so many roms, I can't remember which one allows you to, try paranoid or a PAC ROM. You can also Cook up your own on the online uot kitchen or pull the file from your phone and edit it.

[Theme][B1.6] HoloGlass - now with Fresh QS toggle icons!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mix3d.theme.hologlass.beta
This is a stock AOKP 4.3 messaging app themed. The original version with gray panels has been discontinued. Version two has clear conversation list panels that expose the stock gradient background themed with Holo Blue. Version three adds outline bubbles that match the text color and has the avatars removed. They include Emoji, quick reply, breathing sms notification, strip unicode, enter for a new line, and custom user agent. No popup with the quick reply, quick reply is accessible thru the notification dropdown. HO versions have alternate Hangouts smileys in place of the stock droid ones. These are only tested on my Nexus 4 that is running 4.3 stock deodexed JWR66Y build. If you have success with a different rom, please post it. Don't forget to hit the thanks button if you like.
Disclaimer- As always, do a nandroid backup before flashing/installing. I take no responsibility for any issues. Flash at your own risk.
Updates
8/12 - Initial release - version 1
8/13 - Icon change, avatar placeholder change, attachment png fix, fixed gray on gray text with searching contacts when composing new message, fixed black on dark gray text when deleting conversation
8/14 - Themed smileys to holo blue, fixed black on black text when adding subject, increased max message size, changed phone number text to white when searching contacts, slightly darkened unread panel and changed date to white in conversation list for better visual appearance
8/15 - Removed white frame around mms in conversation panel, darkened active send button.
8/16 - Changed sender name/number in the quick reply box to holo blue.
9/06 - Themed widget added
9/11 - Version 2 added. Changed to clear conversation list panels that show the dark holo gradient background, a nicer visual appearance for those that like darker. Update only if you want both the conversation list and message list showing the gradient background.
9/17 - Version 1 discontinued. Version 2 updated - Changed received text color to pure white within quick reply for better visibility. Changed icons to white within dropdown when choosing attachment type. Removed the return to sleep when replying from lockscreen option in the settings menu since it is non functional with the JWR build. New and better screenshots added. Updating is recommended for anyone using this.
9/18 - Fix added for background of group participants list when receiving a group message. Picture frame added for pics received and sent within the messages panel. Theming is complete and this will be final unless someone spots a needed fix and brings it to my attention.
9/24 - Minor update. Fixed bad code by default for the Heart smiley that did not allow it to display properly when sending and receiving <3. Also took the opportunity to theme the pressed color around the recently added picture frame for a better match.
10/5 - Minor update to V2 - finalized. Lock indicator for messages changed to white for better visibility. V3 added. This is a bubble version, based off of V2, which provides matching outline bubbles and has the avatars removed.
10/9 - Fix for V3. Removed the bubble showing when viewing the group participants list for messages that are group messages.
10/14 - Minor fix for V3. Heart smiley fix added to V3.
10/26 - V2 & V3 apks with alternate Hangouts smileys uploaded. Note, these are only alternate smileys in place of the stock droid ones, not the entire set of emojis. See screenshots.
Installation
1) Flash the zip file in recovery or
2) Extract and push the Mms apk to system/app (remove and backup your current Mms.apk). Set permissions if needed.
* If using a odexed rom, you need to rename/remove the mms odex file.
Thanks to rustyjay for the apk.
Thanks to UBER for his tutorial and his bubble pngs.
Thanks a lot, it's a nice start! However, I noticed that the background in conversations looks like the dialer's and, in my opinion, that's how the main window background should look like. That grey doesn't look so good, in my opinion. Of course, I would have preferred a black background for everything, even for the top/bottom panels but it's a Holo Grey so I respect your decision
Personally I like it. Nice change, keep up the good work.
Sent from my Nexus 4
By the way, kroz the creator of the theme Hue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2008993 uses a fiber background in a modified version of his main theme which you'll probably like
[EDIT] Could you please tell me where I can find more info about theming the messaging application? I'd like to give it a try myself.

I still want to do some changes with the top and bottom panels. They are untouched at this point. I'm liking the top panel black and thinking the bottom would look good black also. I'm working on trying to get transparency in the list screen, but otherwise I may change the shade of gray to match the panels better. Most of the theming I have done is the easier stuff. I did it all yesterday and today. Progress will be at a slower pace now.

Did you make a backup copy of your previous MMS apk, as instructed in the op? I'm not sure what is stock for you, as I don't know what rom you are running. If you didn't make a backup copy, you could always pull a copy from the rom zip and push it to system or make a flashable zip.

I downloaded the zip and checked the md5 file checksum against the original and it matched. This is it: c6a887bd7722762aecf04cc3eeb30f15. Either you got a bad download or something went wrong with the install. Is your rom deodexed?
