So I found out that my phone number shows up as "blocked" when calling people and tried to fix it via Call Settings - but when I try to go into the "advanced settings" menu, I get a "Network or SIM Card error" and I don't know what to do about it? I tried taking the SIM card out of the phone and doing it again - still got the same error. I do have my phone rooted and the Ultimatum ROM installed, could that be causing the issue?
Check with the developer and see if it is a known issue or if he can recreate the error himself, otherwise get a replacement SIM. (did you have this issue before putting this ROM on?)

I haven't tried it without the ROM on, but I'm going to flash the stock rom back on and see if that'll fix it, otherwise I'll hop over to the at&t store to get a new SIM card.

This is probably a stupid question, but I can't find the answer. I did the following to get CM 7.1 FXP028a running on my R800i GSM:
Flashed official 4.0.A.2.0.368 ROM with flashtool (wiped all data)
Renamed update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-XperiaPlay-R800i-KANG-signed.zip to update.zip and copied to SD card
Flashed new kernel: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Entered recovery and applied update.zip from SD card
Wiped data and cache
Reboot device
Everything seems to be working fine except that it keeps asking for a network unlock pin. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm back at the official 4.0.A.2.0.368, because it would be handy to be able to use it as a phone (as much as I like SNESoid combined with the gamepad).
I've actually encountered the same thing before.
Have you flashed googleapps after booting the first time?
(when it asks for a service pin or similar, just cancel that one)
Click on "Discard" and ignore it.
Haven't installed googleapps, will try. Simply ignoring means I can't call.

I have CM7 28a in R800i just like you. The prompt appears in my phone too, and I bought it Sim unlocked. And of course, I can call, receive calls and use 3g
I've got a similar error. my SIM card when I insert, I will always ask for the code that is supposedly wrong. disable a cell phone I need the other pin. until I get to my menu r800i GSM. then sometimes when I'm in, I get no data connection (it saves automatically or manually my network operator.
Finally had time to test again and since FXP041 is available I tried that one. Works like a charm! No issues with network pins and feels very snappy.
FYI.
I'm newbie,
But i've unlocked bootloader using this method ' http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12873655&postcount=1 '
Rooted using this method ' http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859&highlight=root '
And INSTALLING CYANOGEN MOD using this method ' http://www.xperiagamer.com/Beginners-Guides/loading-custom-roms.html '
after all i've done , nothing odd happen,
then i realise when my phone reboot it show (No Servis) i did insert my SIM CARD.
means no network isn't??
anyone can help me?
EDIT *
Because no one's concern about this.
I just figure it out.
Hi people, currently I am running http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355660 ICS ROM but I cannot connect to my mobile network. In the last few days I unlocked my phone while running this ROM and I entered in the code I was given. The unlock was successful however I could not get onto my mobile network 3. When I went into settings > Mobile network settings > Network Operators I received the message "Error while searching for networks". I tested it with another SIM card and I got the same result. Then I tried reflashing the ROM and using a different ROM, the 4.1 Jelly Bean by Nikez. The result was the same. Another thing I noticed was that each time I restarted the phone it would ask for the unlock code again and each time I entered it the phone would say "successful", but obviously something has gone completely wrong. Also note I have Data Enabled and my Wifi/Bluetooth is completely fine. Can anyone help me on what has gone wrong? Thanks
Bump, would appreciate some help please

You don't put it on your sd card. Extract it to your desktop, connect your phone and run it.

Does it work on Gingerbread ROM's ?
It works best on GB roms.

Hey Guys,
I have an AT&T Model SGH-1317 Note 2. For use on other networks, I unlocked the phone using the *#197328640# menu option. However, the phone failed to start the hot spot stating Mobile data was unavailable or Invalid Sim. However, I am able to tether perfectly using the same sim on an another S3 so I was sure its nothing to do with the sim or network operator settings.
I looked up and found XDA website with tons of information. I assumed my phone was locked by AT&T. Hence, I rooted the phone using CF-Auto-Root, backed up complete data using Titanium and using Rom Manager I installed the Crash Aroma 4.1.2 Rom. I wiped the data and cache 3 times as suggested. However, after the boot I am unable to connect to any mobile network. A Click on Mobile Network says "Insert Sim Card to Access Network Services". Dialling for IMEI number prompt a Null.
During Installation I noticed the Crash ROM has overwritten the Radio.. and I am assuming this is were the problem lies. but I leave it you experts.. Request Help!
Sunil.
What carrier are you using the device on?

Am currently on Du - A network in Dubai, UAE. I have been reading more forum information and some suggest that this may be related to the EFS folder getting corrupted which may cause the IMEI number to fail. Some suggest that there are software to rebuild this information by using the IMEI number behind the handset..
I also noted that my phone model has also changed to GT-7100 instead of SGH-1317, Wonder if the Crash ROM was apt?
Would you suggest installing a Jedi Rom specifically built for SGH-1317... or is the damage already done?
Back Online
Since I found no replies.. I had no choice but to give it to the Pros.. I handed my phone day to one of the Unlocking experts at a mobile store… He was confident that his technicians would resolve this. But after 2 Days, they have given up.. He suggested the phone would fetch me US$ 10 if someone used it as a demo unit at a mobile shop..
I was sure this was something to do with the Modem, IMEI and the all important NV folder. I was able to find a Stock ROM for the SGH-1317 and I also found a link at XDA about using EFS pro to change the IMEI.
Using Odin software, I flashed the phone with the stock rom. Unfortunately, there was one error when it tried to communicated on com1. Having no choice, I continued. Restarting got the AT&T style boot but it again froze on the Samsung screen. Dreading the communication error, I restarted several times with no results. Finally I realised if would be due to the cache and user data. I reset the phone to factor settings wiping out the user data and Whola.. The phone sprang back up..
Lessons learnt.. Backup your rom and data before playing with custom roms. Read Read Read and don’t flash in the middle of the night..
Since I am back online, I plan to stick to the stock and crappy 4.1.1 with all the AT&T dead weight. Will live without the ability to Tether until my fingers get warmer.. It won’t be long as I am already bit by the Custom Rom Devil..
Don't Give Up Easy..:good::victory:
Flashaholics anonymous will help.

Tried flashing CM10 and CrashRom see if they made a difference and still No Sim Inserted... tried 3 different kernels and still same issue

Same issue
I flashed crash rom 4.5, over the stock kernel and it gave me that same message. I've tried everything I could think of, which included everything in this thread to no avail... any further advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your username suggests that you have the N7100 device ??
If so. ..you are in the wrong place for support. ..As this is the SGH-I317 section.
If you are showing IMEI NULL with no baseband you may have to restore your backup image to correct the problem. .
If no backup image exists. ..you will need to flash a factory N7100 image from your section.
Look for the return to stock thread for your specific device and that should fix you up...
The CF AUTO ROOT files are device specific. ..so I hope you haven't damaged the partitions.
Good luck. ..g
Edit:
This will help. ..and will place you in the right section. ..
Just go to page 1...good

Hi,
I just flashed 4.3 google factory image, and everything went well.
When I switch on the phone, it ask me my PIN code, and then, no mobile network is recognized. The problem persists even after a reboot.
I tried with 2 sim card from 2 different carrier, and the result is the same. I'm in France, and the radio xxlj1 worked fine before the flashing of the factory image.
Does someone know what is going on?
I would try newer radios, if possible...

UGLL1 was not better than XXLJ1 before factory image flash. I don't think it is the radio, because it was working before very well with xxlj1.
I have just noticed that I can put a wrong PIN code and the phone can unlock the sim card. Is it possible that the sim card reader is dead? Is there any tool or app to check the readability of the sim card?

I mean it would be one thing if you dropped the phone in water or something... but for it to stop working after flashing the factory image?...
Try flashing the earliest available image, 4.0.4 I believe.

I tried it, without success. I flashed a factory image, because most of times, my phone was stuck at google logo without reason, even after a full wipe.
But now, I noticed that the phone can connect to cellphone network at approx 1 boot over 10. I suppose it is a hardware problem, but it is very strange. When the network is ok at boot, everything is fine until next reboot, when the SIM card is detected, but not read correctly.
I keep getting a " No SIM Inserted" message on my S4, I have replaced the SIM card a few times but it keeps happening no matter which ROM I'm on. It usually goes away after a battery pull.
I am aware that this might be a hardware issue but still would like to see if any one here can suggest fix

If it was my phone I would start off fresh and clean.
Go into the phone's settings under "accounts" and click on "backup and reset"
from there click on "Factory data reset".
After doing that the phone will boot normally but it will be a clean boot without any
of the playstore apps, without your gmail account and so on, if it had a custom rom
flashed (using cwm/twrp) it will still have the same rom in it but without any extra's
which the custom rom or you might have added.
Check out the sim card issue, see if it still has the problem.
If not then you can start all over again installing stuff from playstore. etc.
If it still has the sim card issue what I would do is find/download and
Odin flash the stock specific official firmware for the phone.
That way your phone will or should be working just like the day you
first got it unless you actually do have a hardware issue.
Always be sure to make a nandroid backup of your rom before doing anything else.
Good luck!
