Hi there, i just rooted my HTC Wildfire S, everything went well but when i tried to install a ROM it doesn't work. I'm trying to install Cyanogenmod 9 but when i click the 'recovery' option it just sticks on a screen with a phone and a red exclimation point in a triangle (i took pics and uploaded it to imageshack but i cant post it)
I don't know what i did wrong, i followed all the steps from a guide, except one, turning 'S' on to off, because the download link for
HTC Super Tool is broken. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance
You don't need to be s-off to flash roms (damn auto correct always trying to write rooms instead of roms) . Just be sure that you fully rooted device, super user is inside of your phone. Flash cwm recovery via room manager.
Thanks for the reply. Now i no longer get the same error as yesterday but another one 'Error 191 ROM is not supported'
I'm reading some threads about this same error and i found one fix, for the EU version of the phone, i have the US Tmoblile
version so this doesn't work for me :/ Maybe i should make another thread? :|
isn't that MarvelC? not Marvel
Yeah it's marvel but the ROM i want to use is MarvelC.

First you have to install custom recovery like clockworkmod or teamwin, then you can install roms, you can't install marvelc roms on marvel or vice versa. You can install custom recovery by installing ROM manager from Play Store and Selecting Flash Recovry option within app if you are rooted.
After installation of custom rom wfs is no displaying
Hello everyone, I am facing very typical problem, I have htc Wildfire s Marvel S-ON, UNLOCKED and ROOTED, when I tried to install any custom rom like CM7, CM7.2 OR EVEN CM9, using CWM method after the new rom flushed and mobile rebooting after that mobile shown the black screen.
This problem has occurred only ROM CM7.2 MARVEL, when I connect my wfs to computer via usb data cable using droidAtScreen-1.0.1, the rom is working but no display on wfs.
In addition when I use CWM Recovery mode, my wfs is also no displaying, but the CWM is running
Other then roms when I installed to wfs, when rebooting the phone, and stuck at htc logo
Only WILDCHILD 2.0 ROM is working perfectly.
But I love CM7.2 ROM and want to install but I am stuck the above said problem
please help me ........................
@mstfkaratas Thanks for the reply. I installed clockwork (rom manager/recovery) but it says i need to root my phone for the rom manager to function. But i can't root it because of the 191 error.. Any tips?

Using the latest Rom Manager in Market (ver 3 if I remember)
Clicked Clockworkmod installation, Rom Manager identified DHD correctly and installed Clockworkmod accordingly.
Proceeded to do a ROM Backup but upon reboot, DHD shows the red triangle so everything is halted.
Did much searching in XDA and outside but could not find solution.
Anyone can advise?
If you can still boot up normally, try simply installing the custom recovery again.
Ok i managed to resolve this myself

Oh.. basically I did a S-Off and all become ok.
I think without S-Off, somehow HTC replaces Clockworkmod automatically everytime there's a reboot.
Once S-Off was installed in, all is ok.
Yet another NooB here so just guide me through plz...
I have a rooted GSM Desire, flash several roms and finaly insercoin v40, did back up as well,
i was trying to S-OFF and for that i face issue during step3 (CD ROM Method) and someone suggest i should try again with fresh installation of ROM, so i try to flash it again and get it done successfully but on reboot it just stuck at htc logo
i can access my sd card and flash the rom again but every time i got stuck on reboot at htc logo...
I hope i made my problem clear so please help me to get through
Thanks
Go to your Recovery and Factory Reset, this may rectify your problem.
Though, someone else had the same problem as you a couple of days ago and it could be the ROM at fault. Try a different ROM, see if that works.

Did the s-off work in the end, it sounds like it should have? I've read a good number of threads where the process has appeared to hang at the last step and a battery pull shows it actually completed!

Actually it didn't work, and i could reboot properly after the battery pull and this all happened when i try to install another backup of my earlier ROM..
I will try to get my sd card formated and flash a new rom and i will update the result asap.
you can't s-off with rom that use a2sd. Choose a rom that doesn't use a2sd or flash original RUU.

I formate my SD card with recovery and then install a MIUI rom, flashed successfully and then again stuck at HTC LOGO on reboot
@ reaper7881 I am downloading the RUU now and i will definitely give it a try
WELL the Issue is almost resolved....
Re-Flash the ROM and before reboot remove SD Card and reboot manually, It worked like a charm.
I couldn't resist my self for trying one more time to do S_OFF, failed again with insert coin ROM, Tried again with MIUI ROM and it worked.
WHY SO SERIOUS....that was all i wanted to see when i reboot my phone.
Currently doing the partition on my sd card and i hope it will work with after the format and new partitions.
Thanks all who tried to help.

I decided to root my desire HD today,
I was on firmware 3.xx with sense 3 ... Stock Gingerbread.
I successfully downgraded to 1.24.405.1 with the help of RUU
then i managed to root my device following the wiki.cyanogenmod tutorial.
Booted up with the respective android 2.2 successfully even after the root.
Checked root access via Root checker Basic , it said i had correct root access.
How ever , after flashing the clockwork recovery mode , My cell phone has NOT been able to *reboot* properly
i.e when i switch it off , it does not give any response without me taking out the battery and putting it back again .
When i try to go into bootloader/recovery mode , it just gives me a blank black screen.
Please tell me what to do in such a situation , i tried re-running the same RUU , but it gave me an error.
Please forgive me if i have created a re-post.. understand that my situation right now isn't the best.
PLease advice me as to what i should do , i wish to flash CM 7.1 on it, or at least return back to proper stock as soon as possible .
P.S the cell works fine right now , after i have removed the battery & re inserted. It however does not reboot.
Please help me as soon as possible !

Do you mean you tried rebooting with holding down the volumeDown button and then pressing the power button?
When i shut down the DHD .. & press volume down + power, it did now go into clockworkMod.. instead it booted up fine .. into android 2.2
This probably happened because i deleted the rom manager before..i thought deleting it work also remove clockworkmod's unsuccessful recovery flash..!my bad
Also ,I wanted to ask, is it because of the buggy flash of clockworkmod recovery, that my phone does not boot up when i try to *reboot*...
Anyways, i tried the volume down & power button again , & it goes into the HTC bootloader/recovery.. which has the options of fastboot, etc .. Not the clockworkmod recovery, even though i have it installed(5.0.2.0) via rom manager
Sorry for such a long post =(

This is a very good idea, you can do so through ROM Manager. If that doesn't fix your problem, try reinstalling ROM from clockwork - don't use ROM Manager to flash ROMs.

Thank you for your kind suggestions,
I finally have a working clockworkMod Recovery,
I have to boot into bootloader, then recovery.
So right now i have backed up my ROM from clockworkMod recovery, and now preparing myself to install CM 7.1 from recovery menu itself.(after data-wipe etc)
I am safe right ? I have successfully backed up the phone(ROM) 2 times from clockwork mod recovery.
So now I can go ahead and flash CM 7.1 right ?
OH MY GOD !!!!
Now i know what the problem is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i flashed cm 7.1 successfully , still the reboot issue !
i returned to stock successfully by using the same RUU in fastboot mode... & amazingly .. SAME REBOOT ISSUE !
So now ive analysed , its the freaking wrong RUU version for my Indian desire HD
that is at fault !!!!!
So now , can any1 help me find a exploitable version ruu , so that I can flash to that version and start the rooting process again ??
If not Indian version , am i safe to put the 1.32.405.6 version RUU ??

I honestly dont think it has anything to do with the rom. Just reinstall recovery either through Rom Manager or using the link i gave to you earlier.
Solved ! =)
Downloaded proper version RUU..flashed via fastboot... solved reboot issue!
Then rooted again and put cyanogenmod 7.1
Thanks for the replies ppl =) !

Hey, guys. I'm a Xperia arc S developer, but I also own a HTC Wildfire S and I found out a very easy and fast way to flash CWM, kernel and ROM on our Marvel devices. So, here is the guide step-by-step:
Unlock the bootloader using this site ------------->HTC Dev
Download any custom kernel you want.
Download recovery -----> CWM for WFS
Download any ROM you want and place it on SD card.
Open Windows Terminal Emulator in directory where you have fastboot files (you got them during unlocking bootloader)
Put your phone in fastboot mode by (when device is off) holding power button and volume down, than confirming "fastboot" option by pushing power button.
Connect your phone to PC via USB.
In opened Terminal Emulator on PC type
Code:
fastboot devices
If Terminal shows you one device available you can proceed to next step.
In Terminal type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery RECOVERYNAME.img
In Terminal type
Code:
fastboot flash boot KERNELNAME.img
Unplug the USB cable from phone and confirm "bootloader" option by pushing power button.
Highlight "recovery" using volume buttons and confirm power button.
You'll see now CWM recovery. Optionally, go to "backup and restore" and make a backup - there's always 1% chance somothing goes wrong.
Select "wipe user data/factory reset".
Go to "install zip from sd card".
Then - "choose zip from sd card" and choose .zip with your ROM.
Confirm installation and wait.
Select "reboot system now".
Enjoy custom ROM!
I hope it makes you flashing custom ROMs on HTC Wildfire S even a little bit clearer.
Click "thanks"! :good:

Hi,
I'm new to android but have flashed lots of Windows Mobile type devices in my time.
I have unlocked the WFS bootloader sucessfully. I put the device into fastboot mode, connect to USB and open the CMD window. I type in the command and successfully write the recovery file (in about 3 seconds?). Now this is where progress halts for me:
If I got into bootloader, and then recovery, the phone vibrates once and displays the white screen with the HTC logo. And there it remains! I left it for quite a while (say 20-30 mins) just in case it was doing something that took time but alas, no.
I can remove the battery and reboot into bootloader, OR get back into "normal use" with a normal restart, so the device isn't bricked. I just can't seem to get into recovery. I've followed this and another tutorial from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878031 both saying pretty much the same thing.
Have I missed an obvious step please? Everything looks like it's executed correctly, but I seem a little stuck. Do I need a new Kernel to get into recovery? That makes no sense to me, but I repeat: I'm new to Android!
This is a WFS on UK TESCO network, 2.3.5 ROM installed from the factory, HTC sense.

but when i tried to start recovery in mobile , it do not works and my phone restarted at this moment.
then i read many posts of HTC wildfire s and read about S-off And S-on , tried to turn it off but unsuccessfull.
i also tried to root it but recovery does not work so nothing happens.
then i restored stock recovery using the same tool and i have attached video what happens to it.

Why do you have to download a kernel? It's just more difficult.. Just flash the ROM and there you have a kernel and with CM you can overclock your phone easily... And if you dont have CM, download ROM Toolbox from Play Store and there you can overclock your phone too

I tried to install custom rom as described:
1. I unlocked bootloader
2. I not sure if I did any kernel
3. I flashed the CWM recovery of "recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img"
4. I flashed the ROM of "marvel-cm-9.0.0-rc0-unofficial_rom-alpha2-signed.zip" (this is the only rom that I can successfully flashed from your list)
The ROM is very smooth but I was facing WIFI HOTSPOT tethering problem, and the internal storage is very limited, therefore I tried to flash back to the original stock ROM RUU. That's how I ended up with the RELOCK bootloader and I couldn't get it back to UNLOCK. I tried "fastboot oem unlock" but failed.
My questions:
Is there any ROM that is compatible with the CWM recovery which have no problem with WIFI and WIFI HOTSPOT? (limited internal memory is not really a major concern to me, it is just could be superb if I can have more apps with it)
If I wanna flash back to the original stock ROM, what could I do at this stage?
Please help me, your advice would be very much grateful to me. TQ

You can install this ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256576
It is the original ROM, a little bit customized. While installing you'll have a program which will ask you which options you want for your ROM, for example which theme, etc. You can choose to keep the original look and apps.
If you want more internal memory, make a second partition (format ext4) on your SD card. Search the web for a tutorial. Then in the installer select int2ext when prompted. And you're done

Question, nothing wrong with your guide. If we have s-on why are we booting the kernel? Recovery can't flash the kernel so wouldn't we have to flash it not boot from it?
Thanks
I picked up a Wildfire S Virgin Mobile that cannot be activated. I wanted a small mp3 player with an Android flavor. I unlocked the bootloader via HTCdev.com. I loaded Team BlueRidge Recovery 1.1.0. I made a nandroid backup.
I tried to flash a couple CM roms and on bootup they would get past the HTC splash screen and go blank and that would be it. I tried a GB rom and it flashed fine and booted up. However it turned out it was a marvel rom and not a marvelc rom so wifi and BT didn't work. I decided to try loading a TeamWin recovery. I put the newest one and when I tried to flash a rom it gave me an error. I downgraded it to v2.2.2.0 and had the same error. I put TeamRidge back on and now every rom I try to install errors on me.
I am guessing that I corrupted something when I tried to flash with TeamWin and now I can't flash anything. I reformatted the sdcard but it made no difference.
CAn anyone bail me out. I really want to run a CM9 or CM10 rom.
Anyone?? I am kinda stuck, so any ideas might help. Thanks
Try to install clockwork mod recovery using either fast boot or adb via your PC. I have never had issues flashing ROMs that way
