GPS only fixes after a restart - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a problem with the GPS on my arc S.
If the GPS hasn't been used recently, then it does not lock on to satellites unless I restart the phone, no matter how long I leave it. However, if I restart the phone it normally gets a fix on satellites very quickly.
It's really annoying to have to restart the phone every time I want to the use the GPS. I've tried using the app "GPS status" to clear the the cached GPS data but it doesn't help.
Any ideas how to fix this? Thank you.

Look in play store for app called faster fix.
Install and follow instructions.( not sure if you if root)
You could look in android dev section for speeding up gps there is tut there but you need root for this.

The thread is old but seems to still be of use and recently people said it worked.

Enhanced Email on the market does this. I am unsure of anyone who has modded the Samsung apps to remove the requirements though.

Thanks I was really looking to use the stock app, I will test the other app you recommended.
You should be able to find a howto or premodded app pretty easily

I'm not home right now so i can give you a link.
I used to have a HTC hero running 2.1 and the email app never asked for a pin.
So after i rooted i upgraded to CM6 with Froyo and then CM7 running 2.3.4 and email app was requesting pin for my exchange work account.
So i did a search and found an email.apk that was modded for Android 2.2
I downloaded and push it via ADB. and it worked.
i can't recall if you neeed to be rooted?
So i'm not rooted at the moment with my E4GT so i haven't done it.
try doing a search on XDA im pretty sure you will find it.
Ok i did some search before submitting this reply. and found this

and this one

Anyone would like to help me out? Thanks.
I know some people have cleared data in app section then uninstalled then downloaded again and it works.

nope, that did not work :/
Go to developer options and check to disable HW overlays. I had the same issue and found that solution online somewhere and it worked for me.

FYI, you'll need to repeat these steps after every reboot.

Had to reactivate after flashing CM10?

Hey all, I haven't seen this before and can't really find any info searching. I flashed CM10 and right away the phone said it had to be activated. I figured what the hell and tried to follow the prompts to activate it, it failed. I restored my nandroid backup to the stock TW rooted rom and again it said it needed to be activated, it activated just fine then.
What was that all about? Anyone know why that may have happened? I'm gonna try flashing CM10 again (or some other ROM) , but was wondering what I did wrong or what might have went wrong. It was a clean install of CM10...
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes, I flashed gapps at the same time I flashed CM10. It prompted me to activate the phone before the Google welcome/sign in procedure.

Its possible that when you originally did the activation, it didn't ping the server in time from when you 'completed' activation. I've never heard of that issue, and if you were on 3G when doing it, it could have taken a couple minutes. So that's my go at the situation.
Ok so the fix for this issue was to flash a stock rom and follow the activation through with that, and then flash back to CM (reboot first)
If it still doesn't activate, or just to be safe, you can force activation through the dialer by using "##7...." I forget the rest >.<

Thanks for the replies. I did have very bad 3G signal at the time, maybe that could be it?.
The fix was to restore my backup and when it booted up, I was prompted to activate and it worked that time. This morning I did a clean install of CM10 again from the same .zip and it worked without issue.
This happened to me when I went to CM10 from CM10.1. Others have reported loss of service (need to reactive) in the CM10.1 thread. I restored to Touchwiz and all was good.
Yeah this happens sometime, when it does you just need to follow the activation through while using a stock rom

[Q] Any way to control the device remotley

I got my dad this device around an year. It had worked fine so far but has recently started having issues. Apps not installing. Installed apps are disappearing. With his limited tech capability, I am finding it hard to troubleshoot he device (we both are in different countries). Is there any app out there that can be used to control the device remotely over the internet to troubleshoot it? The Xperia Arc S is running on ICS rooted,

Somebody should help us

I don't think much help is going to come into this matter since its a problem from google's side and it only affects just a few people. If more people would have had this problem maybe a workaround would have come. But still hope some workaround will come regarding this problem.

Maybe old version of playstore will work

Actually, you need to be on the latest Playstore to see your comments.
