Stuck At Bootscreen - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hey guys. Just hoping someone can help me out here. I have been running CM10 with the Paranoid Android ROM for the past few days. It was cool but I've been having some issues with calls not going through so I decided to flash something else. I'm running CWM non-touch and for some reason I am unable to flash from external SD and it isn't letting me mount the internal SD.
I've been looking for a .tar file to ODIN back to stock but I can't seem to find one. Can someone point me in the right direction? If there is just a way I can mount internal through CWM that would be great because I can just flash and go about my way but it seems when I mount internal, nothing comes up on my PC. Thanks in advance!
Weird thing too is that I've been trying to get into download mode and although I am getting to the correct screen that asks if I want to proceed by pressing Vol Up, it takes me right back to the stuck bootscreen that says Samsung Galaxy S III.
EDIT: I'm on CWM 5.8.4.7 btw.

im not really sure why its taking you back to the boot screen from download mode, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737855 there you can the rom to go back to stock, hope that helps.

You should really consider trying twrp instead of cwm. I didn't think id care for it over cwm, but after using it, I love it! It'll have the option to flash from int or ext.
For the stock .tar check the dev section. There are a couple versions there, or you can download direct from samsung.

Actually, the links in that OP are a bit busted. Check the last page for the stocks.

What happened?! Help please

I was installing a 4.2 build along with 4.2 gapps.. Something was funky so I wanted to re-do it. When I went to flash the zip from internal sd card, it wasn't there. Nothing is there. All my backups are gone as well. I tried to restore, and it says it can't find any files. I can get into recovery mode, but I have no clue what to do from here?!
Please help!
Thanks
odin back to stock once that is done reboot into recovery and factory reset then start over this happened because your recovery is outdated

Yes, there are 3 files when I go to choose zip from internal sdcard... They are:
0/
legacy/
obb/
if i remember right 4.2 moved all your files to 0 because of multi-user support thats where all your files are if you can move them back you should be able to get to your backup

Ahh okay. I found the zips to reflash 4.2 so I'm just going to do that. Didn't see any of my backups though? Are those somewhere else?
not sure exactly have not used 4.2 yet just read up on it do a search in the thread you got the rom in and you will find a answer
I'll try looking. Because I have to restore. None of my stuff from Titanium Backup is there anymore. All my stuff is gone, except pictures, those stayed.
alright good luck
Does anyone know if the backups are somewhere else? Or are they basically gone? Can't find anything

Boot loop - I think.....
I was running cwm nightlies for a year or more, i was using rom manager to update the nightlies on a regular basis with no issues, then i went to the stable cwm10 rom with no issue, again with rom manager, now after a while of enjoying that, I tried to return to stock and lay low for a while, I just backed up everything with TB and flashed a stock rom using odin, well now my gs3 just sits on the samsung logo as it pulses, this does not change, I have tried to flash and reflash the stock rom and others, i have tried to flash and reflash stock recoveries and custom recoveries too. I just dont have the needed knowledge or experience to get passed this issue, until i get it fixed, i have nothing.......... : (

[Q] Stuck on TWRP

I wiped flashed file but it keeps booting into the modified TWRP RECOVERY? Stuck at this point.
Anyone have any ideas?
I was on TWRP 2.4.1 Newest version
MA5 Stock Deodexed MA5 Firmwares
OK Now a little freaked out. I can't get to billards file or any of my back ups because they were on my external sd card!!!! I hate trying to learn new stuff (old dog)
I'm so used to HTC and when I think I have a grasp of Sammy I F&ck it up!
Oh yeah and my back ups on PC are gone because of hard drive crash! FFFFUUUUDDDDGGGGEEEE!!!!!!!
Any help to get me back to where I was before I flashed this thing would be very much appreciated. Hell I'll take a bootable ROM of any kind. Sweating bullets!
I have the mskips 3.0 toolkit can that help? I scared ****less to do anything!
I don't have ideas of why. But if you have ROM, try flashing it and see if it'll boot. Then at least you can get the rom you want later and maybe your backups.

It's (TWRP) not showing anything under the external sd card and I'm not sure how to mount the external sd card? Under mount there are some options problem is this is a modified version of TWRP 2.3.2.3 or something close to that. Just confused on how to just get a stock rom back on the thing?
thank you very much for your reply

I had this problem a few times. I know I solved it by just flashing back to stock and formatted everything. I know that's probably excessive and you'll lose a lot of info but it's better than having a very expensive paper weight. Lol

I can't see anything on my sd card and since this is some sort of modified version of TWRP it can only see what's on the internal memory. But none of my back ups are on the internaland whenever it rebooots it always boots the the modified version of TWRP. Really stumped i don't know adb so I don't know if I can even push anything to the phone?
Don't mind losing data no biggie there but I'm like you don't want it totally hosed.
Thanks Charles
Use odin to flash latest twrp over the funky one. Then use real twrp to access sd card. Also before that, remove sd card and copy contents to new hard drive using a card reader.

Copying files now. Quick question/advice If I can see my old TWRP file in my internal memory could I flash that file with this weird modified version of TWRP? Then I could flash any file from my sd card stock or custom ROM. If not to flash the TWRP file in Odin do I place it in PDA the slot and which buttons do I need to check (reboot etc)?
Wait I can't use Odin because my PC can't recognize or see my phone because of this modified version of TWRP. Damn it!
My apologies for the noob questions just scared ****less to do anything.
My sd card is wiped clean
So I could put a file on sd card but this modified version of TWRP can't see my external sd card.
Thank you for your time
Charles
To use odin you have to put the phone in "download mode" not recovery. It's a special mode different from recovery or OS or bootloader. Power off the phone and press & hold UPvol+home+power until you get the download mode screen.
It doesn't matter what kind of recovery or anything else you have. It works even with no recovery or kernel or bootloader or OS at all.
Get the tar version of openrecovery 2.4.1.0 (or whatevers latest you future readers). Don't unpack the tar.
Uncheck reboot.
Use the PDA button, select the downloaded tar.
After flashing is done and it says 1 success 0 error, bpull the battery.
This next is annoying and I can't really believe there is no better way, but I need to do it this way or else the newly flashed recovery doesn't "take" and I have to flash it again. Just once the first time after flashing. After that no problem. Anyway, hold DOWNvol+home+power, and while holding all those, put the battery back in.
Now you should have a good fully functional useful TWRP recovery that you can use to flash all kinds of things from the sd card, backup all kinds of things to the sd card, access the internal main OS flash drive, the internal "sdcard" and external sdcard, etc.

[Q] phone installs PA3.96a fine but gets stuck upon rebooting

I installed paranoidandroid 3.96a today and I had some errors before I was able to install it so I ended up formatting the data and then clearing the caches.
I flashed PA. Then I flashed the latest google apps. Then I flashed PA again and rebooted. My phone loaded fine and I was able to install everything I want.
Then if I reboot my phone it get stuck on the splash screen and cannot load. If I go into TWRP 2.5.0.0 recovery it asks me for a password (I have not yet a password although I recently bought this phone used on swappa so I've contacted the seller to ask if he set a password). If I push cancel at the password screen then I can get into TWRP but if I go to wipe the dalvik cache it say sit "failed." The test printed to the console is:
Updating partition details...
E: Failed to wipe dalvik
Updating partition details...
I also cannot browse the internal memory of my phone. There is no folder named "android" or similar.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to try to update TWRP to the latest version. After that I'm out of ideas
Try the latest twrp like you said. Then you can also try cwm. Before you csn browse your file system in recovery, you have to mount system.
Id try another factory reset and reboot though. If thst doesnt help try another kernel. If youre still stuck, idin flash back to full stock with the root66 firmware, then start over clean from there.

how long do you let the phone sit after rebooting? I'm currently on the same rom and noticed it takes longer than usual to reboot the device. it's seems like it takes just as long to reboot the phone as it does to boot up the phone right after flashing the rom.
try letting the phone sit for 5-10 mins and see if it boots up. it's kind of ridiculous it takes that long to reboot a phone, but then again the rom is in alpha. I might try reflashing the rom to see if this still happens.
Just posted in the ROM thread to see if anyone else has the same issue.

I tried installing PA again and then upgrading TWRP to 2.6.0.0 but it still said that it had 2.5.0.0. Then I installed CM10.1 and used that to upgrade to TWRP 2.6.0.0 which worked. I then tried installing PA3.96a again with the same results.
I think that the problem is with TWRP not recognizing android 4.3 installs correctly because I have the same problem with CM10.2 that I had with PA3.96a.
I don't think the problem is that I'm not waiting long enough because after the first restart (i.e. I flash it and restart loading the ROM fine--then when I restart it for the first time it gets stuck). When I go into TWRP after it hangs the first thing it does is ask me for my password. I don't have a password. I think that something is happening to the system partition after install that makes TWRP unable to read it on this phone. Also it says that 0 MB have been used on my phone ram so I think the problem is with TWRP not being able to read the system partition in 4.3 correctly.
Has anyone gotten android 4.3 working on the t-mobile s3 yet?
Edit: And I can't restore from a nandroid backup (unless I put it on my SD card because the phone cannot read from the system partition).
Did you try mounting /system in recovery?
I would seriously consider Odin flashing stock root66 firmware before anything else at this point. Maybe something is corrupted in one of the underlying partitions.

Yes I did. If I mount it I still couldn't see /android or any other folders. I could also not clear the dalvik cache or do a factory reset.
Okay that's the consensus. I'll try restoring to stock sometime this weekend and see how that goes.
I just reverted back to stock using Odin. Reset the counter to be safe and then used odin to load a rooted stock. Then I installed goo manager and had it install TWRP 2.6.0.0.
Success! I can install and 4.3. Something must have been funky with the previous rooting job or something. Who knows. Thanks!

Did you install stock with Odin?
I installed stock with Odin. I then installed a rooted stock and used that to reroot my phone by installing goo manager to install twrp 2.6.0.0.
Let me know if you want me to get the links for you. I got them on xda from googling
Edit: Found it. I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1900345.
Downloading the stock took about an hour so I would go ahead and just use odin to install the rooted stock. After you install your phone will reboot and then it will hang on a screen with Samsung on it (or at least it did for me). You then restart your phone and go into recovery and do a factory reset. Then install goo manager and reinstall the recovery by clicking on the options/settings button and selecting "Install OpenRecoveryScript." Then you can download whatever ROM you want to install. Reboot and go into recovery and you can install it.

Reboot your phone and instead of pushing volume up to put it into recovery mode push volume down to bring it into download mode. This is also what you use to revert to stock via odin.
IT WORKED
HOLY **** IT WORKED I HAVENT HAD MY PHONE FOR A WEEK I THOUGHT I WAS SOO SCREWED YOU SAVED MY ASS THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!:laugh::laugh::laugh:
My understanding is that it's actually kind for of hard to brick your phone from doing software modifications. It is possible but I think only if you really screw something up. Like powering down while installing a recovery or something.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Unplugging in the midst of a firmware flash, and flashing the wrong models firmware are the easiest ways people hard brick.
If you can get download mode and recovery to boot it can be fixed most of the time.

[Q] How to flash ROM when not recognized by ODIN?

I am trying to flash the SuperNexus 3.0 ROM to my D710 E4GT
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2208729
I downloaded the file and tried to open it in the PDA tab of ODIN like I normally would when flashing a device.
There isn't a TAR or MD5 file to open inside of the ZIP file.
I know that I'm missing something and I've searched around but I haven't found anything that points me in the correct direction.
Could somebody point me to what I am missing? Is there a tutorial for installing ROMS from a ZIP that I missed?
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply I'll check the page out that you posted.
I am a total noob. I've crept the forums and used Odin to flash a lot.
I guess, I'm surprised by the .zip comment. Not because I know anything about anything (By now this should be obvious) but because when you look at a tutorial on flashing your phone, it always points at using odin.
It's one thing to root your phone with Odin and another to flash a custom Rom. All the custom roms are zip files and in the original post of the threads they tell you exactly the best way to flash the Rom.

It's refreshing to ask an honest question because I'm over-whelmed and not get flamed out.
Yeah the instructions in that thread are not noob friendly. I hope the sticky can help you out. Use the el26 or el29 kernel packed with clockwork mod available in the kernel repo. You can find it in the Android development forum at the top. Use that kernel and recovery combo to safely flash any rom. Also going to jb you need to do an Odin rooted restore of a stock jb Rom in order to partition everything correctly. You'll be able to find this in Android development too. Sorry I can't provide much links im on my phone at work so it'll take me a bit to link.

So I went to the Kernel Download Page and all of the links to el26 with CWM were dead.
I dug around some more and found this:

[Can't post URL, new user]
I went with Chris41g's EL26 Stock CWM5 Repack
It looked like what I needed to root with recovery so that I could install the SuperNexus ROM.
Now, my phone has been stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S II screen with the yellow triangle for a half an hour.

Pull your battery, put it back in, hold the vol up and power until it loads up in recovery. Clean cache, then clean Dalvic cache(in Advanced Menu), Find the zip you want on your sd card install zip. It should boot into your new rom. The CWM repack you used is not the one I would have, but it probably is just the repack kernal and cant boot your phone.

I actually had GB on the device. I got it from the factory yesterday. Apparently it had a higher OS on it. So I had to go put a GB kernel on it.
I couldn't find the one with CWM but this one has AGAT

once you get the phone set up, get Mobile Odin and keep this .tar files on your sd card. If I Mobile Odin back to this .tar then I can get a clean install on any new rom. this is the name of the file you are looking for, we have been requested not to provide direct links
StockCWM-EL26.tar.md5
If you phone boot loops again have thie zip as well. Pull batt, then press vol up and power to get to CWM recovery then clean and flash
EL26_StockCWM.zip
As you will see when you get more experienced, there is more than one way to skin the cat. This is what I do and it works every time.

That's great! Thank you!
I picked up the Stock EL26 loads.
To make sure I understand when you say that you can get a clean install on any new rom, you mean that you can install StockCWM-EL26 first and then throw the ROM on and it works right?
Also as a note, I have gotten the SuperNexus ROM running on my machine. I don't have 3G data yet. I'm still working on it. I installed the latest ICS modem and changed the xml file that was suggested. I then updated the permissions on the file to what the other files in the directory had and rebooted. Still nothing... I'm not sure if this is your wheel-house and you've already helped me tremendously! I'm digging around trying to find answers.
(I can't post on the SuperNexus dev forum yet. I'm going to look for a support forum or something to post on.)

First - Yes, when I want to change roms, I use mobile odin to flash the .tar EL26 CWM kernal. Pull Batt if needed and then Vol up and power to get to CWM. Then I follow the ROM developer's instructions. reboot and almost always get a good clean install.
Second - I use my phone all day for work so I dont mess with the AOSP Roms much. I like them a lot, but I cant have data/connection issues interfere with my lively-hood so I mostly stay on the TW side of things. Cant help you there, sorry...

In this step for SN, what rom did you get the xml from? "NAVIGATE TO system/etc and look for apns-conf.XML and delete it. Then grab one from another ROM that has working data then paste it into the same directory and fix permissions and reboot".
That might be the issue. You need to make sure that a) you have an ICS modem(FL24) is the latest, and make sure you're not flashing it through mobile Odin, it won't take, and b) you have a working apn-conf.xml file from a rom with working data. Dastin15's Wild For The Night is also 4.2.2, and last I checked, had working data. Might give that a go. Good luck!

recovery stock tar file passed in odin but wont boot up!

I have flashed the boot stock recovery tar file for my Sprint sph-l900 and it says pass in odin. Then the samsung emblem comes up like its going to boot and then goes black. It wont show its charging while plugged in to charger. But if I take the battery out and hold on, home, and up buttons it will go into stock recovery. So I know that it loaded that at least. Because obviously my TWRP recovery is gone. But I don't understand why its not loading I have done this before and no the steps to take but it is not rebooting properly! I don't know if my only option left is to use ADB side load but if that is the case I do not have the faintest idea on how that is accomplished and done correctly. I woke up this morning and my phone was stuck on the boot screen of the parinoid android rom I had installed that has been working for a good while now. I installed an app to help optimize the system yesterday for better performance and it was an app for rooted phones and it had good reviews so I wasn't worried. I made sure that in the options in the app that the system files and other files that I new could not be touched by the app actions I made sure they were white listed so they would not be effected. That is the only thing that I think could have done this to my phone. And when I realized I could not recover to any nandroid backups I had, that's when I decided to just reinstall the boot recovery stock rar file but not before I wiped the correct files to get a clean install (Flash) Any way that is where I'm at and I do not know what to do...... So could any body please help PLEASE!!!!!!
:crying:
Basically your problem is the rom is incompatible with your current boot loader. You'll need to ODIN back to stock rooted MC2 then ODIN a custom recovery then modem. From there flash the rom you want. I'm not sure why you went back to stock recovery with the custom rom but it's not compatible. Or else you need to make sure the md5 is correct for the rom & other files you flashed. I'd just do what I first suggested and make sureyou have a good md5 for ythe rom you want before flashing it. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply!

I don't know about that because it was already mk4 before I ever rooted it and putt the rom on and I have already had to use the same recovery stock rar file two other times to get it back to original stock. And I haven't changed the mk4 since stock not even with the root or the rom Ive installed so it doesn't make sense especially when I have done this twice with the same rar file flashed with odin and always had good result never got stuck from not booting all the way. But so far your the only person all day i have had any advice from and you are a senior member who im sure knows what they are talking about so i guess I will have to find out how to revert from mk4 that Ive never changed to a MC2 and hope that that will do something for me im just baffled that the same thing that Ive done 2 other times wont work again....
Thanks again for the reply any other advice along the way or what ever you feel like adding is more than welcome i really appreciate you now im gonna be on the hunt for this MC2 install and what is the best steps to follow and go on....

No I had TWRP recovery but when i realized there was no getting to flash the rom nandroid BU I went ahead and did a factory wipe and all the files your suppossed to wipe and then I used odin like I have many times before and flashed the same recovery stock rar I have used before to go back to stock and start fresh any way this time odin said pass as usu-wall and then it acted as though it were going to boot and then it lit up the silver samsung emblem for a hot sec and then went black and stayed black after that even when i plugged the charger in the led light would not even show it was charging. But if I take the battery out and back in while its plugged in to charger the screen comes on with the little green battery icon and shows it charging. if i push pwr it show samsung icon then goes dead. Now if I push all the button for recovery it will boot back to stock android recovery. and i can upload one of the backups which was my last rom but it of course act as if it will load and then fails which i know is because i dont have the custom recovery any more but it didnt work either when I did and i don't know man im baffled...
The only suggestion Ive been given so far was from the senior member above and said i need to flash a earlier firmware than mk4 but that is weird to me since I have never had any thing installed on anything other than an mk4 but it make sense that it could work I just have not found the info that makes me feel confident about choices yet...
Thanks for replying any other thought please share!
Well sounds like the odin flash had some kind of issue even though it did not state one. Try going back into download mode and flash a custom recovery (twrp) then flash billards back to stock MC2. This will restore everything back even if you have the knox bootloader. Link is below for easy access. Two things twrp is recommended and do a factory reset before installing. After install reboot (apply su when asked if you want it) the phone will reboot display a messed up screen then reboot once again (normal dont worry). After that you can flash your custom recovery via odin and you should not have any more issues.

Let me know if that works for you.
So I found the write far file for mk4 and it flashed beautifully I tried a flash of the Mc2 in the reply from earleier post but it did not pass in Odin but I really expected that because I was pausitive that there was another mk4 rar that would work. And now I'm back to a fresh stock rom and I have all the flash file I need to get it rooted and custom romed in no time. I really do appreciate the help and suggestions it is nice to know there is help when needed! So thanks again and I got the file from TA TRUE ANDROID vpubmk4 firmware android 4.3 for the sprint sph-l900 I just had to do some hunting in order to find it. And it didn't help that my renters from the other side of the duplex were having their Internet fixed and the Tech accidently disconnected my lines out side so I was with out Internet for a long time and then when it was finally fixed I found this and flashed it no problems. Thanks again. If you don't mind I'm gonna send a friend request to you I don't have any friends or contacts in this forum and it would be nice to have another person to occasionally check in with? Ya know any way take my brother and stay cool......

For the record (since people seem to still be having issues) you CANNOT DOWNGRADE THROUGH ODIN WITH THE NEW BOOTLOADER!!! You can however downgrade through (custom?) RECOVERY using the previously mentioned method.
