don't know if here would be more useful for your queries? i would search those forums and google, will likely find your answer quite quickly...
as for battery life...universal common sense things like turn down your screen brightness, turn off wifi/mobile data if you don't need it. check for bad apps keeping your phone awake using something like 'betterbatterystats'.

its a question that i have been waiting for.
seems like any push data is affected because the app shuts down data to save battery.
I know you can set it so it switches on for a 1min every 15mins but if you have GTalk or constant emails being pushed, it means you wont get them until the app switches the data back on to reteive the emails/messages.
this is my understanding on how this app works.
if there is a program that auto switches ur phone to 2G when idle or screen is off, then i think this is a better solution.
This one does turn on when your screen does lol..
But earlier it stopped my data working even with screen on, i had to go into settings and disable then re enable and it worked! maybe it was cus i was at work and it tried to connect when i had no signal.. i dunno
Re: juicedefender
it's a known problem and the developer is working on a fix. I won't be using it until it is

Is it? Whats the fix? Just turning it off and back on? Because disabling JD didnt work..

This happened to me yesterday as well. Only way I could get mobile internet back again was to reboot
Hi,
I installed JuiceDefender two days ago. Since then, I have had wifi problems. I can't be 100% sure that they are caused by JD, but I had no wifi problems before that, using several different networks.
My phone is SE Xperia X10, but I understand that the app works the same way on both phones.
The problem is:
When wifi is enabled, it takes several seconds to enter the "wireless networks" menu in settings. It then takes 20 seconds entering the "wireless settings" menu. During this period, the screen goes black. Sometimes, I get a message that the wifi app has crashed. Also: When I connect to a network, it works fine for 1-5 minutes, but after a while the phone does not seem to receive any data, even though it says "connected". The same wifi network works perfectly on my computer.
I have tried rebooting the phone, uninstalling/reinstalling JuiceDefender, etc.
Has anyone experienced anything similar to this? Any hints on how to solve the problem?
Re: juicedefender
happened again today with mobile data at work, it turned it self off. does the developer know about the bug?

yeah he does. A beta was released which was slightly better but not perfect. Guess it's just a case of waiting

Re: juicedefender
I think I might just keep charging mine but leave juice installed because I like the push notifications so ill disable juice for now!
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Juicedefender is not in market anymore.
I bought this a few days ago and it has been working great but i was just prompted to update to the latest beta and nows things are not running too good.....may need to disable for a while.
uninstalled mine. just cause i wasnt getting good internet at work. seems better now. still a good app in theory. better than anything winmo had to offer.
Ive left it on but dont use it anymore.. Battery seems to have improved anyway
Re: juicedefender
the developer has released a beta to try and fix the issues. looks like the different carriers are causing problems with resuming the apn connection
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Gotta say, seems to be working without an issue on my phone
One thing i would like to know tho is that i can see the settings to change the rules for activation of wifi and apn but i would like to set these to 1m every 30mins rather than 15mins, is this possible ?
I only seem to change it to 2m for every half hour...seems to defeat the pont in changing it...What have i missed ?
It's absolutely helped my battery life. I think it's just about doubled it overall. I haven't bought the full version yet but I do intend to. Not because I want the extra features, but to support the work done on the free version - superb!

Couple of Desire General Questions

Hey guys, I love my new desire and seem to have general annoyances questions that I have researched but cant seem to get a proper answer. Hope anyone can help me out.
1.What is Always on Mobile Data?, does it update my weather and my news feed automatically? And has it been proven that it drains less battery if I keep it disabled?
2.Is it necessary to have a task manager? I am using advance task killer(free) and oddly, I sometimes lose mb's when killing apps.
3. How do I enable wifi to go on and off only @ a specific location( such as my home)? I heard that it is possible to do this.
Thanks for the people taking the time to read my post.

1. It's what it says on the tin. Always on mobile data. You don't want to disable it, as you won't receive any facebook/twitter/mail/any net app updates whatsoever. But yeah, it would increase battery life - but not by more than if you just kept it always on, but disabled auto-sync for most everything.
2. No. http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
3. SweetDreams or a bunch of other apps have some toggle settings. Or just get WiFi indicator, which reminds you that you have WiFi on but aren't in range of any networks.

Stop 4g from sleeping?

I was wondering if there was a way to stop 4g from sleeping.
Any and all help is highly appreciated. Thank you in advanced for your help. =D

Not sure but I think it goes to sleep cause the signal its picking up is weak. But if I'm wrong I'd also like to know if there is a fix. Other then updating the PRL and Profile. Which didn't change much for me.

You can't stop it permanently from sleeping. However you can increase the time it takes b4 it goes to sleep. I heard it drains battery super fast though when you do this.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
As RayTrue said i dont think theres a way to permanently keep it on wake state but you can increase the wake time. to do this you need your MSL. if you don't have it, a search on this forum will quickly populate some good results. if you are rooted you can use terminal (from the market) if you are not rooted i remember a guy posting a way to do get your MSL using a dialer code just a few days ago over at the general section. So, once you have the MSL:
-go ahead and turn your 4g on.
-go to your dialer and type ##3282#.
-click View
-click WiMax
-type in your MSL, click OK
-Scroll down and click Extensions
-third one down should say IdleSleep, long Press it
-click Write Extension
-type in a value (between 5-300).give it a few seconds and the new value is set. 00010 means it will stay awake for 10 seconds before going into idle mode. you can change it to what you like . I have mine set on 0020.
your 4g will disconnect. turn it back on and now it should go idle at new time you set it to.
**the bigger the value the more battery the radio drains.
I dont know if you already knew how to do this but i hope i helped.

i dont think it has anything to do with signal strength. it's simply another way to save battery when 4g is not being utilized or no data connection is required. updating the prl will only help when we roam by identifying other networks in the area. it basically tells the phone which towers to connect to when the phone fails to connect to Sprint towers . i dont believe prl will have any effect on 4g. its mainly for voice.
Thank you shahin26 for your help that's actually exactly what I was looking for XD. The battery drain is fine with me since I'm always near a charger and I'm getting my extended battery on Saturday =D. Much appreciated!!!

IS there a solution to keep the 4g from sleeping when the screen is turned off?
I found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814226
But it isn't working for me=(
Amazing! Thanks!
This is nice! Battery life is not much of an issue for me since I have three spares. I'm going to do this now!

I live in a full bar 4g area in California. If you change WiMax settings, I would recommend maybe extending sleep time but if you change it to the full 300 setting, it will crush battery. It's best to find a middle ground that works best for you

I only have 4G when I visit the g/f's apartment. I have had an SGS1 and SGS2 and both refuse to wake up when the 4G goes to zzzzz. So I changed it to 300 seconds and wrote a Tasker script to make 4G one-click on and off. Problem beautifully solved.

Can I give my Desire to my kid?

So after two long years of using, what I can only describe as the most stable phone I've ever used, I've upgraded to a galaxy s3.
My 2 daughters generally fight over who can use the iPod to watch BBC iPlayer when they goto bed at night, or when they're bored during the day..
I now have a phone sitting in a drawer and it got me thinking If there is any way I can give my desire a new lease of life and give it to my daughter to use for accessing the BBC website? That way one can watch on the iPad, the other on the desire.
I'm only concerned about them using the phone to call the emergency services by accident. Is there anyway I can disable the phone for making calls an still keep the wireless/functionality the same ?
Any comments appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Maybe you can hide call/dialer button from the app drawer (try apps like audio manager-you can lock/hide anything with this app. Also you can remove dialer icon from home screen
And just try searching on market there must be a way to disable it with some app
Also our good friend Google can always help you good luck

[Q] Parent wants to completely disable wifi on Galaxy S ll

We have given our young daughters Galaxy S ll’s. Our cell provider is kajeet.com which has decent parental controls on phone usage including Internet access via the cell connection. But kajeet doesn’t affect the wifi connection. Hence, Internet access is available.
We would like to shut down the wifi and have the phones used only for texting and talk. The girls have other forms of (monitored) Internet access.
Does anyone have a solution for shutting down the wifi connection?
I have done quite a bit of research on the web for an answer and haven’t come up with anything that is largely within our control.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Jona
First up, what model phone are we talking about (sticker on the phone chassis under the battery) ? Reason I ask is, I noticed Kajeet uses Sprint, which means there's a good chance you're in the wrong forum. As the I9100 wasn't sold in great numbers in the US, various carriers have their own variants, which have their own forums here.
I honestly doubt you can do it (I'm not aware of any way to block access outright), you can probably use one of the myriad security apps on Google Play to block WiFi access to individual apps (I.E all of them). But that might be different for different SGS2 variants (being an I9100 forum, I only know this for the I9100).
If you do have a different variant, we'll have the thread moved & maybe those who have the same phone might be able to tell you something different.
Months ago on cm10.1 i had managed to completely disable wifi by accident on numerous occasions by flashing old versions of dorimanx kernels that update the wifi drivers, then flash stock cm kernel again that uses old drivers, couldn't turn wifi on or off until I reflashed cm, so it is indeed possible. Not sure how you'd go about this. Maybe remove wifi drivers from rom if you are rooted? Sorry I'm not much help, just thought I'd share this.

my opinion, disableing wifi from a young kid will not stop him to access internet from any other place instead it will make him search and found more just because he dont have easy access to information he want. soo this is not the right thing to do but start takling to him and understanding his
needs will do more good. But this is just my opinion it seems thees days there are too many ways to find out things and there is noone who can shut them all off. Cheers!!

You are correct. My phone is a SPH-0710. Can you please port me over to where I am supposed to be?
Thank you for your help. This has been a frustrating experience, and it is reassuring to have someone take it seriously. I appreciate your taking your time to head me in the right direction.

I'm a Moto Atrix 4G and HD user. I know from development on the 4G, we could disable the wifi by not installing certain packages or flashing a kernel without the required lib/module files. I'm in the middle of fixing a friend's S2/Epic 4G touch and I saw this thread. I would think that something similar would be available here, but i am just starting out with this process of helping my friend out so I'm not sure what files really affect the wifi. I'm sure you could root the device and delete the files that enable wifi access, but I'd have to do some digging for that before i advise any further.
