Right ... I am having problems with the WI-FI signal on my ARC S, Running stock 4.0.4 / 4.1.0.B.587, Everything STOCK. I don't have issues connecting to the router, The signal is just weak I have tried connecting and changing the routers tried to change the wireless channels from 1-13 problem still exists, I mean I'm in the same room as the router and the signal bars are not full they fluctuate from one bar to 3 only four when its right near the router. On an iPhone the signal is full even when I'm at a distance from the router and around the house. What could be the problem ? and is it will all ARC S's. I have even had a replacement problem is with the actual phone and not my router in anyway. Any idea what could be the problem and maybe how I could resolve it, help will be appreciated ...

just hope sony actually fix the issue, seen on sony forums earlier someone posted that the wifi module inside is cheap and nasty worse than clone phones hence the weak signal, wow pay so much for the phone and this is the outcome,
I kinda regret buying mine also, now I wanna sell it...

It's not up to phone. It's up to ICS update, and there are dozens of topics exploring similar subject all over the web.
On stock GB 4.0.2.a.0.69, WiFi signal is a lot stronger. Test it and you'll see.
Edit: For example, when I'm on ICS, if I go out in my garden, I can't even catch WiFi signal from my home router. Only once in a while, and it's very weak. While on GB I can catch it with no problems and it varies between one and two bars.
Well and even if the problem is identified by dozens of topics there is not yet any solutions...
It seems to be a big issue...
So I am going to wait...
Any idea for how long ?
Obviously there is no solution yet, if we talk about stock ICS. We can only wait for next update from Sony (if that ever happens), and hope this issue will be solved.
But like I said, on stock GB, there are no issues with signal strength.

I'm so completely frustrated by this phone.
I live in Houston, we've had excellent LTE for a while now. I had a thunderbolt for a long time that performed flawlessly on LTE.
Since day one, across multiple roms, multiple radios, and more wipes than I can count, this phone has been absolutely pathetic with regards to radio performance.
I'm CONSTANTLY losing 4G, or having 4G and being stuck with gray (non google connected) bars. I'm always singing out of Gtalk, not having texts go through.
The phone burns a hole in pocket (figuratively) sometimes when it drops to 3G.
What should I do? Do i need to get a new phone? Anyone else massively disappointed with the Gnex data connection?
GSM ftw.

yes get a different phone, or go back to your thunderbolt

Howcome? Same reasons?
the connection are fine over here in boston, i only think i dont like my GN is that i need to charge it 4 times per day.
GSM touters aside,
Have u tried flashing one of the custom radio packages or even one of the radio hybrids?
i had some wifi-mobile data handoff issues with the 4.0.2 radios, but the 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 have been stellar. digs out 4g almost everywhere and whatever the connection, no heat or handoff issues.
i also came from a thunderbolt. and the only place i have issues is when i am in a building pretty far away from windows. at work, where i had an OK 4gLTE connection on my thunderbolt, i have a 50/50 connection on my nexus (probably 80% 4g with thunderbolt)
other than that, as long as i am close to a window, or outside i get as good a connection as my thunderbolt did. you may have a bad SIM card, or a bad radio in general. i would try to get it replaced.

I live in Arizona and when in Phoenix I have no issues with 4G signal. Samsung is notorious for bad attenna designs. You may have a bad attenna, nit properly wired, or defective radio. I would recommend having Verizon replace it.

Hi. I am having very weak wifi signal and the signal keeps droping on my one x while my old sensation at the same place has better wifi reception. Any one facing this problem or any one has any fix? I have the insertcoin 3.3.0 installed. Even with the stock firmware i faced the same issue. Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I'm facing exactly the same problem...
only when standing in a range of a few meters from the router, I have a good connection.
My desire has a much much better connection.
do you think we have to send it back?
gr,

I had to buy a plug in wifi extender, put it into an area in the house quite far from my wireless modem router, One X now has much better wifi reception.
My Samsung Galaxy Nexus never had this problem, or Nexus S, or Nexus.... seems the wifi reception of the One X handset is weak.
By the way my modem router is Netgear 1000SP and my wifi extender is the Netgear one. Very easy to set up. £69 (in the UK).

but that will only solve the problem at home and not at work or other places
I have the same problem. My HTC Desire has much better WiFi reception than my One X. I tested it with the WiFi Analyzer app and the difference in signal strength is on average 10 DBm, which is quite large difference. For me it makes WiFi unusable on the top floor of my house, where the Desire never had problems. With the One X I have set WiFi to Best WiFi in Settings, but it didn't help much.
What I also noticed are very large variations in signal strength. In a room next to the room where my WiFi router is, I should have strong signal, sometimes I have 2 arcs signal strength in the WiFi icon, but sometimes those bars drop do only the dot in the icon, so a large difference.
edit: as far as I can remember, before the update I didn't notice the WiFi problem, but that might be due to the fact I just got my phone. I haven't unlocked my bootloader so I can't test it myself, so maybe somebody else is willing to test that? It's important to find out, because if WiFi really was better before the OTA update, it means it's just a firmware issue. If not... it can be hardware.
I think its a software issue as many of us are facing the exact same problem only when away from the router. My router is on the ground floor and my room is on the second floor. Its just that floor where I am facing the problem while my sensation has got a decent signal. I feel its a software issue and the next update should hopefully solve it.
I am also having weak signal on ground floor rooms where the router is just 7-8 feet away from me.
I just sent my One X back because the wifi signal was so poor
about 15 feet from the router i had 1 bar signal any further non, what so ever. Pretty much made the phone a useless pile of ****e when it comes to using wifi.
Spoke to HTC regarding it but they told me to send the phone back, i will see what the next phone is like, most likely the same by the sounds of it if other people are having this issue

I just got my replacement. The Wifi is alot better. I have full bars in the same location that i had 1 bar on the old one
There is definately a big difference, my main problem was at home, but i had 1 bar at my desk at work aswell, i now have full bars.
I havent updated it with any firmware as of yet, but it said there was non available when i last got it to check.
If it helps at all its Build 1.26.206.2
Worth sending yours back, there seems to be a few people with this issue, but if it was a fault with the model i would expect alot more people complaining, not just the few of us
I think my replacement phone they have given me an o2 Rom one due to the fact it has crappy o2 software on it... not to happy about that but at least the wifi works
And did you update your first One X? (or do you know which version that one runned on?)
(because like I stated in one of my previous posts, I don't recall any problems on the first firmware, which was 1.26, but I used it only a few days with 1.26. Now I'm on 1.28.)

I updated yeah, i believe there was an update on Friday or so, unfortunately i didnt take note of what version it updated to
This phone is o2 branded by the looks of it, its not what my original phone was it was unbranded completly, i may take this one back aswell, tho not sure if its worth it as at least the wifi works. O2 wont release the update as early as the unbranded presumably.
Suppose i could just custom rom this and get rid of the o2 stuff

Would you be so kind to look up what radio version you are running now?
With my old Desire I would just flash a different radio myself, but that's not possible without S-Off.

I think its possibly firmware, like wph says in his posts, I'm sure before the phone had latest firmware there wasn't a problem.
Is it possible to flash the older Rom and firmware?
No that's the problem. Flashing an older RUU will not work, since the bootloader has changed and doesn't allow an older bootloader to be flashed. Unlocking the bootloader doesn't help since it doesn't give S-Off and therefore it's impossible to flash a different radio/baseband.
So will have to wait to the S-off to flash a new radio and hope that could solve the problem?
Like I stated above, if I recall correct, the problem wasn't there with the old radio. But I only used it a few days before the update came. If it's just the radio, maybe HTC will fix it with a new update, so it could be with the next OTA update. If the next update doesn't contain a new radio, then the wait will be longer. If the radio from 1.26 was really better, it would be nice to know that for sure. That means I don't have to send my phone back. And there S-Off would be handy, then I could test my premise. If the radio isn't the problem, but it's hardware, then waiting is pointless and we just have bad luck with our devices.
I mailed the seller yesterday concerning this problem, and they are going to change my device. I will send it today, hoping to get it back asap.

I just bought a new GNexus yesterday. The store has a 3-day return policy so I'm pressed for time to verify some of the problems my unit has.
1.) I have a weak wifi signal. My phone is currently using the XXK6 modem. I read the reviews and most people are saying that signal quality got better using that modem. However, I'm just 4ft. away from the router and it's not giving me a full bar. How can I verify if this is a hardware problem/defect or just a software bug?
(I used to own an S2 and my wifi was at full bars at the same distance and same router.)
2.) Does Android 4.04 fix the low volume problem? And how can I verify if my low speaker volume is a hardware defect/problem?
Thanks guys!
1) I'm having the exact same problem. WiFi signal is very weak and sometimes drops but quickly picks up again. I asked the exact same question before, but I didn't get any useful feedbacks aside from flashing my router with DD-WRT.
2) If you are talking about the low volume problem on the external speaker, then unfortunately no. However you can use an app called Volume+ to solve this problem. The app can bump your volume up by a significant amount.
Hope this helps
Thanks! For the second question, the only solution I found here was to install volume+ as well. I'm just worried it might be a hardware defect with my unit.
I'll still check if my wifi signal problem goes away when I flash a new ROM and baseband. I'm still at work so I'll let you know how it goes.
Great, hopefully you'll find the solution to the Wifi problem soon
Galaxy Nexus' speaker volume is one of it's gripe, but as we all know, we have Volume+

Thanks! Just an update. I've rooted my phone and flashed AOKP milestone 5. At first Wifi and data signals sucked big time. But then I flashed the UGKK7 baseband. Wifi and 3G signals are stronger than ever. Too bad I still have to return my phone due to the back part being loose.
I've never really experimented with radio basebands, but friends of mine are at the same carrier as I am and they can actually receive a solid 3G connection everywhere with a cheaper phone and I can only receive like one bar of 3G signal and that bothers me. Is it possible to fix this with a new radio and if so; which one should I use?
Thanks in advance!

I'm using XXLA2 right now. XXLA2 is a later release I guess (as you count the baseband date with the L/H. Don't know if you ever tried XXLA2?
Try them all out for a bit and be sure to get the app GetRIL to match the RIL and Baseband. It took me a bit in the US but since I did the process I get almost double the signal.

LA2 is outdated. LH1 is a "jb radio". As someone suggesties, check with GetRIL of baseband and RIL match.

Thanks man, I've never really done any research into which radio to use, but I'm glad there are people who did. Will flash the radio tomorrow morning and post the result of it tomorrow evening. I really hope this radio will get me a better signal.
Well, the reception is a little better, but not much. Only problem: the radio bricked my sms function. Does anyone have a PROPER solution for that problem? It seems that it's quite a common one and I can't seem to find a fix.
try them all and see which works best for YOU
Edit- looks like this has already been said :good:
I just recently got the phone and noticed a strange behaviour.
The phone sits in the same spot for hours and is connected to my home WiFi.
After unlocking it doesn't show my homescreen but the WiFi selection screen.
It doesn't happen every time I unlock it tho, just every now and then.
It's not really much of an issue but I wonder if it's a bug or some faulty settings.
I already switched off the message about available networks because I thought that a weak network in the neighborhood is causing this but it still does it.
Anyone noticed the same?

That fixed that rather annoying problem on mine.
Downside of 107 seems to be increased sensitivity to weak signals, my signal gauge is often showing no signal then pops up to 1-2 bars then off again. It doesn't seem to affect things that much in use, but if you have the 'phone on the gauge appears to go up and down non-stop.

Upgrading to B107 fixed that issue on mine too. However, I get the same problem as above now with the phone signal. Seems to have dropped indoors, and I get the searching for network a bit more frequent too.
I suspect that this is part software, and part antenna design. I didn't realise that it would all be housed in that little black strip of plastic at the bottom!
The update did indeed fix it. I didn't know that there was a newer build than B106 because the phone claimed to have the latest version.
I didn't notice any signal loss so far, neither WiFi nor carrier. But I live in a well covered area.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your help mates and have a nice day!
Problem solved!
