Got myself a Telus Galaxy S2 T989D variant and want to unlock it.
Place a foreign sim card (wind mobile, Rogers) and it doesn't prompt me with the unlock screen? Instead it brings me to the homepage with a "No Service" message. Phone doesn't access the "Mobile Networks" section either just asks me to insert sim card (i know it can detect sim card as i can pull contacts off of it).
Phone is currently 2.3.5 gingerbread. I am familiar with Odin, with my friends telus s2x phone i made a backup in the recovery screen on the micro sd card i have. He is running the latest android. Can i recover from that back up image to install latest android version? And possibly get the prompt for a unlock code?
Thank you
As well my when i check for my IMEI number *#06# it shows null/null?
You need to be stock for it to pop up, are you on stock

that i am not sure. Stock rom and everything?
Guy i bought it off said he hasn't tried any unlocking or put in any other sim card other than telus.
Should i get the stock telus rom and flash it via Odin? Do i need to root it first or just start it in download mode, connect, and flash?
If you're using odin, then no need to root.
Make sure you're using telus when using odin, if you used any other carriers it may result in a hard or soft brick.

Is this a common thing to do for an unlock? Flash it back to complete stock settings?
I've changed it to factory default by recovery mode but i guess that doesn't cut it.
I've rooted before but never unlocked a phone. Thanks.
Now just need to get Odin to read device. ugh.
Yes because for some reason custom ROMs is missing the files required for the pop up

Odin wont root your phone. It installs clockwork mod recovery OR can be used to return your phone to stock configuration.
If you did something to root your phone with Odin, which it wont do, its no wonder you are experiencing problems.

could you have possibly used ODIN to flash a pre rooted 2.3.5 rom?
Are you saying that if you go to settings/Wireless and network you don't see WiFi calling there? it might be there, but just disabled.

Yeah this is wierd, ODIN doesnt even touch the ROM on your phone. All it does is flasha new recovery image.(if you followed the ROOT guide in the dev section). If you did anything with superuser in ODIN then you might have bigger problems than wifi calling...
Actually JessieJames11191981 hit the nail on the head it took me back to 2.3.5 how do I get back to 2.3 6 when over the air says there is no update available and it won't connect to Samsung keis

Flash a 2.3.6 rom through clockwork mod recovery.

Stupid question........how do I do that and keep the Tmobile stock (yes I do like it boat ware and all until I can figure out how to root)

use this thread to root your phone and install a custom recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332103&highlight=super+one+click+root
then just flash a custom or stock 2.3.6 rom and bam wifi calling. If you want to keep some bloat but have an easy way to remove some download and follow the insructions of this rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322642 It has a program called bloater where you can pick what bloat programs you want to keep and which to remove

Hi guys,
New to this forum and i need some expertise from you guys. Tried looking all over online for an answer but cant seem to find one. Here is my issue, my phone is a T999v phone from wind but my carrier is mobilicity. I got the OTA push for the new firmware a week ago or so, i am able to download it but when it reboots to do the install the file goes corrupt and wont install and tells me to try through kies. The other issue i am having as of right now is that i am not able to connect to kies via usb which will do the firmware upgrade. Want the latest updates but it is seriously giving me a major headache. Any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.
Did you try installing the drivers for the sgs3 from Samsung's site (for your computer), reboot your computer then try going thru kies?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Kies never works for me, either. It's garbage anyhow, and there is no reason to install it.
Are you rooted? Do you have CWM or TWRP? Are you downloading the OTA over wifi?

No im not rooted...but CWM does pop up after my phone reboots to try to install, that is when i get the error message. tried doing OTA through wifi and carrier but doesnt work either way.
An ota from Mobilicity will fail on a Wind phone. You could possibly get around this by using mobile odin or maybe cwm. But i really dont know if its a good idea to try. The fw from each carrier would have to be very similar and i dont know what the differences really are.
If you do want to update via kies download the latest from samsung.com/kies but uninstall any previous versions an drivers first. Installing kies will also install drivers.
Alternatively you could download the full VLALH2 fw from sammobile.com/firmware and flash through odin or mobile odin.

Actually, you can use mobile odin as well. Cwm too im told, but i havent tried.
Ops problem im pretty sure is hes trying to apply a mobilicity ota to a wind phone.
But you are correct as to how it was intended to be used.

The factory image includes all components of ROM (bootloader, modem, kernel, system).
If phone is already on T889UVALJ1 then the unlock method should work.
Did you see a menu after entering *#197328640# ?
You can go back to this menu and check status of "[3]Perso SHA256 OFF"
Did you reboot the phone after this process, are you trying a SIM from a different carrier ? (just making sure)

Hmm not atm i just was thinking about that wondering if the sim card could be cut wrong for it.. i will try get my hands on another an see what happens.
I recently brought a tmobile unlocked, Samsung galaxy s3, T999.
I tried to upgrade firmware with samsung keis, but it stucked at 0.
Then I tried, Emergency Firmware Recovery, it also got stuck.
I rooted it and applied a custom rom, CyanogenMod
Then i wasnt able to turn on wifi, SIM not detected, etc.
Then I wiped all data, reset the phone.
Now it doesnt goto the home screen, stuck at loading(with that google 4 colord dots).
I can ONLY access, Recovery Mode and DOwnload mode properly.
Even my laptop doesnt detect the phone. Micro SD card also not detected by phone.
As you can see, i acted like a total idiotic, and also I know nothing about android. I was doing those by googling. and watching tutes.
If you can advice me....would be a great help.
thanks
I would suggest going into download mode, and use Odin to flash a stock Rom.

What happens when you connect your phone to the computer? Is it recognized at all by the computer but doesn't fully install or it is not recognized at all? If it is recognized but does not work, you may try installing the drivers on your PC. Installing Samsung Kies would be one way of doing this as Kies has all the drivers you need. Also check the USB cable you are using to be sure it's of good quality. I'd be hard pressed to understand how rooting or unrooting alone could affect recognition by your computer. To return your phone to stock-no-root, however, you'd need to download and flash the stock ROM, bootloader, modem and kernel zips via custom recovery (e.g. TWRP, CWM). You may search the threads for specific instructions on how to do this with the Canadian models.
It isn't recognized at all. I've tried multiple chords and different sub ports. It's unrooted right now, I want to root it.

Also check your phone's settings under Development mode to be sure USB debugging is enabled. If your aim is to root, you could, in principle, use another device like another phone, camera or micro SD adaptor, to copy the rooting files (Super SU zip) to an SD card and bring this to your phone. However, unless you already have custom recovery installed, you'll need to flash this via Odin which requires a computer. I
I had usb debugging on. This is really starting to seem hopeless.
