Stop screen on every time power cord plugged/unplugged? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Just like the title says. I'm looking for a way to let the screen stay off even when the power cord is plugged or unplugged. I'm guessing it's probably a simple edit or a config file or something. Oh, question is based on a touchwiz rom, not cm or anything like that.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to do that? Does it bother you
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

Yup it does. I have no lock screen for convenience and a 1 minute time out. So it stays on and is apt to clicking buttons every time which is an annoyance.

Remove Top Bar with Verizon Wireless Banner from Notification Pull down

Just flashed Myn's RLS 4 which has the power controls in the pull down. love the feature but dont like how the area for active notifications is cut in half so basically i was wondering if it was possible to replace the bar above the power controls.

i pulled this from my rom it should work for you.
do a nand back up first
adb push the status_bar_expanded.xml (attached) to the
framework-res.apk
just replace status_bar_expanded.xml its the /res/layout-hdpi folder of the apk.
just rename the attached file so it does not have .txt at the end
let me know if it works
Thanks. I'll try it in a bit. Also what happens to the clear button that is on the right of Verizon wireless when there is an active notification?

heres a picture of the notifications bar from my rom
its kinda hard to see but
the part that says red raven is just the .png file
normally it says verizon wireless where it says red raven
so it would look just like it does but no verizon wireless txt
everything should stay the same. (i think)
you could pull the status_bar_expanded.xml from the rom you are using so you can just push it back if the one i gave you doesnt work.
Nooo. Lol sorry I worded the subject bad. So basically I wanted to remove that whole bar completely. I'm running Myn's rls4 and it has the power controls in the pull down and basically I wanted to replace that area with the power controls.

I honestly have no clue but I think it requires some major coding, but don't quote me on that haha.

How do i get this "TV" thingy???

on Galaxy Nexus, when i in lock screen, if i press the power button once, then entire screen will shut off like u shutting down the "TV", what is this call? and how do i get it to put on other non-nexus phone, like GNote, SGS2?
Try looking for " CRT off " mod or a rom that supports it.
All CM9/CM7/AOKP/most others have that by default since that is default google stuff...CM9 is on most phones...i know its for the GS2 and the Note already

It's the default screen-off animation in both 2.3 and 4.0. Any ROM based on these should have it included unless there's a specific bug it creates and is removed. Many ROMs have a screen-on animation that is very similar also.
does it mean that if the phone got no Google ROM, CM9, CM7, then u cant get that "CRT off", screen off animation?

As I said, anything based on 2.3 or 4.0 should have it included because its part of AOSP. The only reason it would not be included is if it was causing problems with something else in the ROM.
Turning on animations I believe will make this happen on stock roms. Not 100% sure though. I've only been stock for 1 day when I first bought it.

But both your phones do have cm7 and cm9 so you can get it.

[Q] Disable Capacitive Buttons (Q)

I had a mod for the nexus s that disabled the keys, I could adapt it to this phone probably. Using cm9 i'm guessing?
No, actually I'm using AOKP, does that change the difficulty in adapting it?
NVM I looked at your mod and adapted it myself, no flash zip necessary. For anyone else who wants to know you delete the text in /system/usr/keylayout/sec_touchkey.kl and then save changes in a root explorer app.
Is there any trick to turning the lights off on cm9?

Yeah I don't want to completely disable the keys themselves, I just want to turn the annoying, battery-wasting backlight off. The CM9 setting to do so does not work.

This was made by T.C.P. But I use it on CM9 Codename and AOKP. Turns off the lights but they still work. Flash in recovery and enjoy.

/system/lib/hw/
Push it there and reboot
Some ICS roms like codename have a "lights.sph-d710.so" file so push the the lights.exynos4.so and delete the d710 one then reboot (if that's the case).

That's why I said make sure you add the lights.exynos4.so after you delete the d710 file and then reboot.
Don't forget to set permissions before your reboot.
Why would you ever want on screen buttons instead. Phone screens are small as is, and youre choosing to use a portion of it to be dedicated to buttons you already have? Not to mention theyre not as responsive as capacitive buttons and theyre bound to get in the way sooo much more. I think its the worst part of ics, and Ill be dissapointed if the s3 ships without capacitive buttons, even if it does make ot look cooler. And the removal of search and menu is downright retarded
The .so file does indeed work. Thanks so much for the workaround.
Also on the general subject I would much prefer fewer buttons on my mobile device. My HP laptop has capacitive buttons and they are the cause of many headaches. Even the menu button on my E4GT sporadically activates on its own from time to time. Google did it right with ICS and the Galaxy Nexus. The keys are there only when you need them and auto-hide when you don't meaning the screen real-estate is not as much of an issue as one might think.

If they dissapear its rare. And that portion of the screen is blacked out anyways. Ive never had an issue with my capacitive buttons.

I am trying to do it because my hardware buttons randomly press themselves making the phone difficult to use. I get where you are coming from though.
I'm searching around trying to fix my phantom search button issue but don't want to flash a different rom or start a new thread... I'm rooted with framaroot (great system, so easy to do), have busy box, root browser- virgin mobile S2 SPH-D710, same as the Epic 4G touch. I found a thread in another forum talking about editing the button to simply no longer have a task, but in regards to the menu button and not the search button which is the one that is giving me the phantom issue. Thread is here:
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...th-ics-jb-phantom-menu-keypress-easy-fix.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203059
Anyone know how to go about deleting the functionality of the search button?
I want to take this approach as it seems the only way short of a new/referb or hunting down a custom rom where the software somehow fixes the issue via programming. I did have virgin send me a referb and it had the same issue lol, so working on fixing it the xda way haha. For those with the same issue and wondering what is causing it, IMO the best explanation I found was from another forum, it seems to be hardware, where a screen replacement or capacitor addition is the fix because some S2s had bad quality control and a magnetic shield was not installed correctly and when the cell antenna is in a low reception area, it increases power and that causes an inductive voltage situation or some other power issue and makes the handset think the menu or search button is pressed. I found some who feel that even though it's a hardware issue, of course the software could be set to prevent the cell antenna from 'juicing up' in low reception areas.

Unlock while at home

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knew of a good app for unlocking the tablet while connected to your home's WiFi? To be clear I would still like a lockscreen, but be to have it that when I leave home it goes back to being pin protected. I tried tasker but it can only disable the lockscreen completely, and while I would settle for that, I was wondering if anyone here knew of a solution! Thanks
Easy to do with Tasker. Best money you will spend if you dive into it. You can make your devices do anything you want.

I couldn't figure out how to make it only unlock but leave my lockscreen there (like it doesn't go straight to home screen when I press unlock button) do you know if that's possible ? I looked around rather quickly because if it didn't have it I wanted to be within refund period :S
Check out this link http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57478334-285/the-most-practical-creative-ways-to-use-nfc-with-your-android-device/ . Came across it on FB and just watching the vid showed some of the possibilities for the NFC chip and I think it will do what your looking for.
Seems interesting.. I think the main problem is that disabling security and and leaving lockscreen is not an option sadly so like, it's all or nothing :/ I could live with that I suppose haha but kinda sucks
Have you seen this app? It does exactly as you want and works great, I've had it, and its great

it doesn't support patterns, the only lock I use. PINs and passwords are too slow to enter every time.
Try "Settings Profile" on the app store. Similar to tablet but much easier to use. I use it to do exactly what you describe.

I'm going to treat myself to some NFC tags to see if that will do it

Lock screen app problem

So I downloaded a lock screen app to double tap my screen to put the phone to sleep. It puts the phone to sleep for a sec and then the phone wakes back up.
Is there a setting I need to change?? I've tried a few and they all act the same.

it works about 9/10 times from my experience.

yea like I said those .apks have been flaky on newer Android systems.
I personally stopped using them and have been finding alternate methods,
such as this for Samsung.
With time I will be trying to see if this lock button works on HTC as it does Samsung seen here (the lock button) - presss to act as power button, long press to act as power button long press.
Very cool actually, and you get used to pulling down the status bar to turn phone off.

Works really well and best part it's quite simple to add.
Will be testing today to see if it works.
If so, you can send me your SystemUI.apk and I'll hook you up with it,
unless you use my ROM in which case I'll have a patch made for it as it'll be included into the next release.

So yea you know how that button works, I think it would look great to the left of the clear all button in header.
