This is my first Android phone. Since the phone is rooted what's the best way to not get charged for tethering? Freeze 'TetheringProvision' ? Is there any app that works best to enable this, is Foxfi the best method even though I'm rooted?
Installed Wifi Tether for Root Users and it's working. Does any apk need to be disabled to prevent ATT detection? Only relevant one I see is tetheringprovision but it has a google icon next to it.

I use the same app. I'm on JB. I have a tether plan though. It costs me $5 more after a discount on AT&T

Try "android-wifi-tether", version 3.1 beta 7. Go into settings and set device profile to the S2.
Worked fine for me this a.m.
So it appears to be working with android-wifi-tether however I permanently have the "Security policy restricts use of Internet Sharing" showing on my screen (when I activate the tether) until I reboot the phone, can anyone else on Juggs 5.0 confirm they have tethering manager in titanium backup or can they get Wifi Tethering to work without the feature added to their account?
Try the app barnacle wifi tether.

I am new to all this, but this app works for me without the root.
It is at the app store and called Foxfi.

So my friend updated his GNex to JB today. His phone is completely stock, not rooted. He went to use FoxFi on his phone tonight, and now it won't work. He sent me some screen shots to show it's not working and that he is on JB. Has anyone else come across this same issue? Are there any work arounds other than rooting his phone?
Has anyone found a working alternative to FoxFi for unrooted users?

Try Fattin | Hotspot Toggle Widget, it works perfectly.
It toggles the native hotspot on/off, but bypasses the subscription check by Verizon.

Fattin worked for my rooted Verizon Jelly Bean.
Just to be safe I RDP (remote desktop) from my laptop, and then surf on the other end. I'm hoping they can't differentiate Windows RDP packets from RDP packets from an Android app.
Hello,
I have rooted my phone and wanted to know if anyone has been able to activate free tethering on the t989? I installed the treve mod wifi tether app but nothing seems to work...

you might want to use one of the modified ROMs such as Jedi Mind Trick JB 1.1 or Infamous's . I dont think free tethering in stock ROM will work.

I tried the generic steps for tethering but I do not have the MSS Clamping option on the one that I downloaded on that page?

The stock roms generally want permission from the carrier to enable tethering. The custom ROMS generally have it enabled by default. One of the tricksy things T-Mobile is doing now though is checking the User-Agent of the browser requesting a page and, if it's not a mobile browser (i.e. you're wi-fi tethering a laptop and using a desktop browser), it redirect you to the "Buy Tethering" page. There are extension for Chrome and Firefox to change your User-Agent.
Non-web traffic seems to be completely unaffected by the new tethering test.
Can anyone confirm a working hotspot app for the Verizon HTC One that allows free hotspot using phone data? For the rooted folks, can anyone confirm if loading a ROM allows for free native hotspot? I'm considering to upgrade to the HTC One from a Galaxy Nexus but I want to make sure I'm covered for hotspot because it's an important feature for me. My wifi tablet is useless on the road without it.

FoxFi works for me.
Yes, +1 for FoxFi, works great. Although it doesn't re-enable WiFi. But that's a minor nuisance.
I rooted my HTC One and have Wireless Tether and it is working. If you are referring to the native Verizon Tethering App, I did see a post in another forum that discussed there is a way to get the Verizon app to tether without a tethering plan if you have a rooted phone, but there was no link or directions on how to do it.
FoxFi working perfectly here too

I'm gonna point out I had an issue with FoxFi today. I had to uninstall and reboot and reinstall. Seems that VPN connection it uses seems to inadvertantly stop working. I'm assuming that's what it uses to trick the mobile hotspot to turn on.

What I meant by native hotspot is enabling the feature within Android settings, no app needed. Normally I think the carrier can detect and charge using this method on the stock ROM. However I remember people telling me that they can use it undetected after installing a custom ROM.
So anyone know if there is a working wifi tether for the Note ii now that I have updated to 4.3?
Thanks,

I would like to know as well. Just did the update and realized I can't get Wifi Tether to work anymore! :crying:
I'm using Synergy mk4 and stock wifi hotspot works just fine. :good:
Edit: sorry you were referring to wifi tether. anyway, just letting you know that you can use hotspot as an option.

I have a rooted sphl900 note 2. Did update to 4.3 and lost my ability to use WiFi tether by trev mod. Is there a fix?
Or do I have to wipe out my phone and put a rom which has tethering ability? What do I have to do to get it back ?
Can anybody help its much appreciated. I really dont like to wipe phone since I have a lot of stuff on it, but if I have I will.
Thank you. Jjm96:crying:

expecially the ones with the least bugs and have hotspot working for tethering.

The Bluetooth works on mine, I have not tried the USB yet. I didn't think Sprint would make it so easy to tether or maybe sprint doesn't have any control. I'm just happy I can tether again.

Wifi Tether - TrevE Mod
Have you tried Wifi Tether - TrevE Mod? I prefer it over the stock tethering
It won't work. And why don't you like the stock tethering? No mucking around with device settings, network settings, routing fix, clamping, etc. Simple and easy...and it works!

problems with mss clamping and log.files
Similarily to a previous poster, when I updated to 4.3 my wifi tether trevE no longer works. Whatever is keeping it from working is preventing my wife's s4, both are rooted (obviously), they both have the same message. When I try to start tethering the reply message is " tether started with problems, please Check logs"
when I go to the logs, it tells me the file doesn't exist. I think this is my main problem.
When looking up the proper settings, enable mss Clamping was # 10 on the list, but there wasn't a setting for mss clamping.
Has anyone fixed this yet? I've seen plenty of google articles with the same issue. Thanks in advance.
