I ran into problems trying to make a Nandroid backup.
Currently on CWM 5.5.0.4, Odin 3.04 and stock Rom.
I go into CWM recovery....
I select backup and restore....
I select backup....
Then I get "Can't mount backup path"
I hope I just forget something simple here.
If you guys could help, could you kinda try and make it in simple terms. I am really trying to learn this stuff, but I am just starting out, so sorry for the novice level guys.
I did try and google some info, but I feel even more confused now.
Any help would be great.....
thanks guys!!

Any help would be great. I would love to start swapping ROMs but can't until I make some sort of backup....correct?
Use this newer CWM Recovery
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16085428/CWM_TOUCH_7-12/recovery.tar.md5
You can flash it using Mobile Odin or Odin on your desktop.
You can find instructions on how to flash that here

The first solution to any recovery problems should be to check if there is an update to CWM, which fergie716 already linked to. This is why they release updates... because sometimes things are broken (and they only pop up in unique circumstances).
Also, I personally use TWRP, and always recommend it. I have had no issues with TWRP (when I keep it up-to-date). But I always throw in the disclaimer that backups made with CWM will not be able to be restored in CWM. If you have too many backups in CWM that you want to keep, switching to TWRP might not be up your alley.

Hello all,
I have been trying to resolve this issue since I rooted and installed CWM on my Epic 4g Touch. I've searched through all the other threads but see to have a copletely new issue with recovery. When I try backing up my existing rom, the back up gives me this error message "Error while backing up boot image/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log Please open rom manager to report the issue"
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help.
Don't use ROM manager.
Install CWM using the Auto Root sticky.

ok so do I use Rom Manager for anything or can I uninstall?

I would just uninstall. There are simple equivalents for what you need done that have been tested extensively with this phone.
Still won't let me backup
I did the CWM through autoroot, now when in recovery mode and trying to perform a backup I get "Error backing up boot image! (Free space: 0mb)"
I reinstalled the Rogue Recovery from autoroot and tried again, but recieved the same error message...
Any idea what's going on here?

Yeah i have an external sd card, how do i select the internal card?
Go into mounts and storage and unmount the sd and it will use the internal...you may have to do this every time...is your external broken or full ?

Sweet!
Turns out I had to re-format my external sd card, worked perfectly! Thanks a ton!
Need some help guys. I wanted to try out TWRP and was currently using CWMR 5.5.0.4 so I flashed and everything went fine. Didn't really like it so I odin back to CWMR. Now in CWMR it won't see anything on my ext sd card. All my files and my CWMR backups are there and usually when I go to restore I would have the option to restore from sd card or internal sd card. Now I only have the option to see my internal sd card. How can I get my CWMR to see my ext sd card again? Also I was looking for a newer version of CWMR but could only find the odin version of 5.5.0.4. Thanks again guys for any help.
A lot of the first cwm recoveries don't support external sd. Upgrade to at least 5.8.4.5.

Problem fixed thank you. But where is the newer CWMR? I can't find any good links anywhere. Even google.
www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
What didn't you like about twrp?
It does the same thing but is touch screen.
I love how I can just flash without manually going into download mode too. Goo manager does it all automatically for you through twrp

what did you do to fix.. trying to search forum. .but cant seem to find answer for mine... i went to go install new rom.. i did my normal wipes.. wiped cahce/davlik/factory reset/system.. then rebooted to recovery and wiped agian.. went to install and now TWRP is not seing my external card.. i had another rom on my internal and installed it .and still not able to see anything on external.. even in root explorer... any thoughts how to fix?
I'm having a strange issue trying to install a ROM (any rom). No matter what ROM I try to install, I get a "can't open /sdcard/(ROM NAME),zip (bad).
This happens if the file is on the internal SD or the external SD. Doesn't matter. I was able to restore from a nandroid backup, but I'm really stumped here.
Anyone have any ideas?
Are you using the latest version of your recovery? I recommend twrp btw

Update recovery.
Thanks for the replies. I'm using ClockworkMod 6.0.2.3. I take it there is a newer version?

Never mind. I found CWM 6.0.2.8. I'll flash in the morning and give it a try.
The problem is I can't restore my Nandroid backups as they fail every time the custom recovery reaches /data. I have tried every custom recovery for the T-Mobile Galaxy S4. I'm no noob when it comes to android, I have done my research and haven't found any solutions. I flash a lot of custom roms and not having a Nandroid backup to go back to is a big pain. This is my first time I've posted on XDA and I really need some help.
You have to odin back to stock and reroot only way it worked for me, kept getting into bootloops when going back to nandroid

Can't say I've had any issues with nandroid restores (just backed up and flashed, knocking on wood...) do you have sufficient space in your internal storage? Others have report, and I've seen, internal storage filling up from backups that are 'hidden away' by CWM but don't get deleted by a data wipe.

I have my backups stored on my External SDCard, I don't think that space is an issue. Also, I odin'd back to stock, re-rooted and all that and I'm still getting the same error.
I feel your pain, but doing odin is a pain in the a$$, have you tried any other recovery yet? That way you can see if it is a recovery issue, do a backup and then a restore to see, maybe even rolling back a version or 2, I would try these, before I go thru all that again.
The Ax says, just trying to help here. Good luck.
Sorry didn't see your last reply, must have happen when I was replying, wow today's technology.
Ive once moved a nandroid to my ext-sdcard and when i tried restoring it wouldnt work, try installing a nandroid from ur internal sd instead

Your microSD card might be defective. As uncivilized suggested try the restore from internal SD. That should work.
So I just backed-up to the internal SD-Card then Restored from the Internal SD-Card and it failed again.:crying:

Right now I am running Philz Touch 5 (a variation of cwm touch) but even when I had TWRP I had the same error when restoring
I just flashed TWRP 2.6.0.0 with Odin and I am currently backing up and then I will restore it to see if I get the error.
It failed in the exact same way.

Im using twrp v 2.5.0.3 but im not seeing it in their website. Try using an earlier version than 2.6.0.0 , I would format internal sd card flash a rom from your ext-sd card then use odin to flash an earlier version of twrp.tar
I have followed all of your steps exactly except for I flashed 2.5.2.0 instead of 2.5.3.0 and it still failed, this is pretty frustrating but thanks for the help.:crying:

2.5.0.3 was removed, alot of people had problems with it, just like alot of people are having problems with 2.6.0.0. some people reporting that 2.6.0.0 is working fine.
2.5.02 is your best bet, if 2.6.0.0 does not work,
