What's wrong with my WiFi connection? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So basically WiFi has become a huge battery drain for my phone. If you look at the attached battery graph you can see that the battery is being drained rapidly while on WiFi, while not being awake that much, it's just sitting on the table really.
I have no idea how to fix it and at this point being on my data connection (EDGE/HSDPA) is using less power...
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm on latest CM10 nightly with [email protected] - but the problem also exists on any other ROM I've tried recently. And trust me, I've tried them all because of it.

Have you checked the strength of the wifi signal you are trying to connect to?
I use "wifi analyzer" from the market.
If the signal is too weak that can drain battery.

Most of the time it's like in the screenshot. I'm like 10 feet away from the router.

10' away will not be relevant if (eg) the router antenna is loose
which is why I suggested checking signal strengh.
I am not sure what the screenshot is telling me,
but it seems to say you use less battery when you wifi is off (duh).

That's what my router interface tells me. I'm using a Linksys WRT54GL, btw.

My wrt54gl shows (on wifi analyzer) at -35 to -45dBm,
so the signal strength number is correct.
Not sure what you mean by your 'router interface'?
If by router interface you do not mean a monitor in the phone,
then another possiblity may be the phone antenna.
Again, you need to check the signal strength as received by the phone.
btw, I am not suggesting this is the problem,
it is just an easy thing to eliminate first before you start to look for more complicated causes.

I also just noticed my RIL wasn't matching the baseband. Somewhere between testing different radios I misread a filename and flashed an old one. Maybe this was causing some kind of weird behaviour. I'm going to observe this for a couple of hours and may report back.
Thank you for your assistance so far.

Wireless (WiFi) connectivity help

I have looked through the OPPO forum for info on connecting to a wireless network, to no avail.
With the most recent devices I've owned, i have no trouble connecting to BOTH wifi G and wifi N. For whatever reason with this device, I cannot connect to wifi N.

You can see I'm connected to ASUS-G but when I try to connect to the ASUS-N, it simply says Saved.
From the device settings, I have wifi band set to auto. I have tried 5 gz only.. Still get the same network saved, but does not connect.
Have other experienced this? If so, how did you rectify?
Did you walk through this topic? http://www.oppoforums.com/threads/this-is-probably-a-4-3-bug-but.16834/ Does it connect if you don't use a password on your network? Does it connect on a friends network (wireless N)?

Most probably your wifi password that you entered is wrong. Try forgetting it and carefully insert in the correct password again.

Wifi and data problem

I have a T-Mobile htc 10 and recently updated the phone that was sent by T-Mobile (1.81.531.4). Lately, when I'm connected to wifi and leave the range of the wifi the phone will not connect to the data network. It will show 4g (big icon) with 3/4 bars but there is no connection. I can't send text messages and the internet says I have no connection and the web page won't load.
Turning mobile data on and off won't do anything. I have to turn on airplane mode and then turn it on. That's when the mobile data starts working.
I am having that issue as well. I rolled back and the problem went away. Must be something in that update.
How did you roll back? Are you rooted?
Make sure "Auto switch to mobile network" is checked under your advanced WiFi settings.

I'm also seeing the same thing. Has this issue been resolved? I've just applied "Auto switch to the mobile network" so only time will tell.
UPDATE: applied "Auto switch to the mobile network" unfortunately that did not fix the issue.
My carrier is T-Mobile
Build: 1.81.531.4
I have an unlocked HTC10 and use it on Tmobile, I had that exact problem with mine also after an update which i dont remember the number, but after the last update from last month (1.91.617.1) it got fixed, i was able to make it work with a trade of a little battery life.
My fix:
Go to developers options and enable the "Cellular data always active" that way even when you are connected to wifi the phone will leave the 4g/Lte connection open.
Try that at least until they release the OTA for your phone
Let me know if that works.. good luck!

kelbaez: Thank you I'll try enabling the "Cellular data always active". I'll post back if it works or not. (9/23/2016)
UPDATE: 9/25/2016 Since I applied kelbaez fix on 9/23/2016 phone has not had an issue. Until today.
While traveling (phone was never connected to a wifi) phone seem to have lose connection with T Mobile's data. Enabled and disabled airplane mode fixed it.
However, I still feel kelbaez has fix the issue of being at home and connected to wifi and with his fix I have not as of yet lost data connection. FYI, prior to his fixs at less once or twice a day.
Glad I stumbled upon this thread..been having the same issues. Hope it gets fixed in an update.

WiFi connection while data is on

Apparently Pixel phones does not route connections correctly. I have an issue with a wifi device in my car. My car connects to phone through wifi for music and other services but since this wifi has no internet, my phone automatically keeps data on. When this happens, the car app does not detect the connection because apparently the Pixel phone routes all data through only the "Active connection" which is cellular in this case, if i turn off data, then the app works. This is a petty as its' working fine with other phones like Samsung or iPhone.
Also the car actually needs the data connection on my phone for navigation, update, etc... and with this scenario, it does not work.
I made a test at home with a router. I connected the phone to router which has no internet connection, i then opened chrome and put the gateway address and it did not open the router page. I then disabled data and it was able to open the router page. Again, this is only with the pixel; other phones work even if i don't disable data.
I have seen similar issues with also other WiFi devices. See below link
https://forum.dji.com/thread-103340-1-1.html#post_858055
Any thoughts or nothing can be done with this pixel phone.
Under settings- network and internet- wi-fi- wifi preferences- advanced there is a setting called switch to mobile automatically. Turn this off, it turns mobile data on when there is no wifi but you are connected to WiFi. Give it a try and report back.

Yep, I have the February update just got it yesterday. this options been on there for quite some time for me I don't know if it's a Verizon thing but I remembered seeing it for some time.

so looks like i am stuck with the wrong phone as there is no solution
One more option not sure it will be work but worth a try. In developer options (if you don't know how to enable it Google it) under networking there is a toggle for mobile data is always active. Mine is toggled on, see if yours is and change that option to see if it makes any difference. If it's off turning it on may bring in the other option in the settings menu, if it's already on, turning it off may do the same thing as the other option in the settings menu does for me.

tried it already first thing, no difference.

cannot turn off Mobile Data

Hello,
I would like to check if I am the only one with this behavior:
I am on stock android 10 version February update.
I tried to turn off the mobile data, turn of the WIFI but Is see that some applications such as whatsapp, still connected to internet and are able to sent messages.
Quora is able to open treads and Chrome still able to browse web sites.
I tried try to disable 4G calls but no changes.
It is a problem for me because if I travel with my smartphone consuming data in other countrys it will be very expensive and plane mode if not a good solution as I need sometimes to tun of data but turn on the WIFI
I am android user since several years and never seen similar behavior before.
Thanks to share your experiences tuning off mobile data with Pixel 3 XL.

and I still able to browse on the internet
With data off what does it say when you enter *#*#4696#*#* and enter Phone Information? Could you give a screen shot? Make sure to blank out your IMEI info before posting. Or just what does it say under the "Roaming" and "Data Service" lines. Should say "not roaming" and "disconnected"
Also, under preferred network type what is selected. I wonder if you are getting 2g or something coming through. When connected with data turned off does it have the same speed as your LTE/4G?

Cellular Radio will not Power On (therefore can't activiate)

I am trying to help activate a new-to-them Verizon logo'ed Motorola Z2 Play phone. Everything else on the phone seems to work OK. WiFi works. Bluetooth works. GPS works. Apps run.
This phone is a Christmas present (and their kid is rather disappointed). I went to help them to activate it, and I am having major problems too. Tried every trick I know.
At the top it says "No Service", and the cellular signal strength (bars) is grayed out with an "X" over it. It is almost like the phone is in Airplane mode, but isn't. Just for fun, I tried turning Airplane mode on, and then back off, to see if that cleared it. It didn't (no change).
Here is a summary of what I tried so far...
When I try to activate it, I get an initially message (upon powering it up) that the activation is in progress. However, this eventually times out and fails.
If I go into Settings, System, About Phone, Status, and finally SIM Status, it shows a Signal Strength of zero (0).
Like I said, it seems like the Cellular radio is turned off.
A factory reset doesn't seem to help. It brings me into the setup routine, seems to "see" and successfully read the SIM (knows phone number, and there is no "SIM not found" msg, etc). The setup routine stops/hangs trying to activate.
BTW, I have tried their new SIM in a different phone temporarily (an old LTE phone of mine), and it works. So, it is not the SIM.
Here is the "secrete" Phone Info menu. Cut off the top (intentionally by me) it shows the correct IMEI and Phone Number.
Consistent to what I wrote above, the major problem to be that the Mobile Radio Power doesn't "stick". I can successfully set it on, but if I then close the menu, reopen the menu, it displays back to off.
