PRL 25015 released.....just sayin' - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

To update on stock ROM....System settings > System update >Update PRL.
To check your version...System settings > About Device > Status > look under PRL version.
PRL is a list of roaming towers available to your phone. It will NOT improve your Sprint coverage but may add additional roaming towers in your area. I don't know what changes are included.
Edit: Current version 25015

Tested this out and it killed my connection. Obviously PRLs depend on your unique situation. With me it dropped dl to 50 kb/s and ul to 25 in my area that only has 3g.. Ouch. I went back to 11114 which magically alliws me to download at 500 dl and ul.

I have faster 3g speeds. No need to use wifi at home.

No update for me..... still says 25005 is most recent.

Wow tour 3g is faster than your isp... That's sad......

Now I got the update prl.... make work will be better now since I roam shook the time there.

I dont get it, my PRL is still 24006 after several several attempts of updating my PRL... what gives?

agreed
Just to back up OP, I updated my prl and I now have 25006.

Likewise. I've had connections issues for the last 24hours and have manually updated the prl several times so I am not sure which resulted in 25006, but that is the prl I am presently on as well.

This is the first I've ever heard of this. I've always had both data and wifi on when I updated the prl and it seemed to work fine. What's your reasoning?

For a normal prl update you need some form of data connection enabled so it can check for and/or download the latest one

Ok i have PRL 60683 and I'm rooted, I have installed raom control 1.7 and how do I know if I'm roaming or not cause I still have my 3g icon there and nothing comes on saying that I'm roaming. I am rooted. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried the same setup and used 1.7 but even though it said it was working, it wasn't. Someone then told me that the newer versions had this issue so I found a copy of 1.4 and now it really does work now.
Find an older copy and you will be good to go!

Pirated versions of the app do not work (except for version 1.4 as you discovered). It's not an issue with the newer versions of the app. Unfortunately the app was pulled from the market, but I'm trying to get it reinstated.
Thanks,

alright thanks please let us know if its back on the market, for now I will try to find version 1.4 and see.
ok looks like version 1.4 is working but why can't I roam for any type of data even 1x is not working.
RC seems a little flakey on my phone. But then switching between 2G and 3G manually on my phone seems a little flakey too. I'm running PRL 11115 and I get 3G roaming. Where I live I have horrible 3G, at nights and weekends I get less then 50Kbps down. I switch to roaming, my phone changes towers and I get 1.3 Mbps. After toggling roaming, I reboot and then I can get 3G roaming. If I don't reboot I will just the roaming triangle and I can make calls but no data. Not all roms show 1x when in 2G mode. Stock rom will always show 3G, don't know if it is setup to show the roaming triangle, but you should get the beeps from roam guard telling you are roaming. I guess Sprint took a page from ATT's and Apple's play book in regards to reporting signal.
I'm running RC from the market, 1.7.
WoW, i didn't even realize its been pulled from the market. Anyway i paid so my version is 1.7 and it works great, i have to use it daily while at work. Sprint just doesn't reach all the areas i travel to and Verizon is there to lend a hand, lol.

Roaming bug

I don't believe this has been posted for the e4gt but came across this error after flashing AOCP ROM and it stuck on everything I flashed afterwards. Roaming would not work, at all. I spent 3 days without signal at work for 10 hours a day.
I tried clean installs of roms I knew worked, I tried to Odin back to stock, I tried to nand back, nothing seemed to work, until the guys over in the SGS3 forums found the answer.
Go to settings, and toggle roaming on and off. Not roaming guard, but roaming itself.
So simple it was laughable, but it works.
Again, I didn't see this posted anywhere in our forums, but if it has been please don't flame, I only wanted to share the fix. I don't remember who it was that found it but they definitely deserve huge thanks!:thumbup:
Edit- I am in no way bad mouthing or otherwise ripping on AOCP, I think it is a stellar rom and would be running it as a dd if not for this bug. Just wanted to make that clear!
Unfortunately this isn't limited to AOKP, found this out the hard way on an int'l trip last month. Also replied to this on Sprint Communities earlier today.
What Prl do you have? Mine is 60690 and roaming works fine. I also use roam control to force roam in some areas where I know signal is bad.

Roaming does work fine - if you have the boxes checked. If not it won't even turn on - as I learned the hard way. (Had to wonder why it worked fine for the missus and not me until I realized I uncheck the boxes out of habit.)
Sorry, I guess there was a miscommunication, or rather an omission on my part. The issue I ran into originated after flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942162 this ROM. The options to roam are there, but do not work, it always goes back to home only network. Then after wiping data, and both caches and flashing to other roms the issue persisted. My phone refused to roam. The fix in the op corrected the problem.
Sorry about any confusion

PRLs do not improve data speeds, unless 800smr is added AND its added to a place in your area (physically added to the towers)
That PRLs can boost speeds is a myth, and a badly widespread one too.
Please take a moment and read this article about PRLs.

You don't add it. Its either enabled in the PRL and also in your area, or it's not.

I had the same error even after going back to stock. Sprint rep said that they have no record of that error and didn't know how to handle it. He reset the phone with ## commands (sorry don't remember) then the phone wouldn't activate. Took back to best buy and the Samsung rep flashed something, no help. I have a replacement now. I hope you have better luck.

I can help you out because I was going through the same problem.
Here's the thread to the list of all PRLs (don't worry about it being in the S3 section, they are the same for the Note II): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880781
Also, if you run accross the issue of not seeing the "PRL write" in the ##DATA# menu, you need to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159054 and flash the MA4 zip. I'm running MC2, and it worked for me. Also, there's some tricks to get the prls to stick when you write them. First, name the PRL "TEST.prl" (all caps). Second, turn your data off before doing the prl write.
This is my first post, so give me a thanks if I did any good
My setup:
Sprint Note II LPH-L900
Rooted stock ROM (MC2)
Kernel: Perseus-alpha36
PRL: 55015 (I'm still looking looking around, though)
My final note: I <3 Xposed Framework
Disclaimer: I don't have a clue what I'm talking about. I can't program or read code. I just look up stuff on Google. If this bricks your phone, don't blame me. Make a backup!
Lol I didn't realize Chris already posted the PRLs thread. I figure why not throw in some screenshots of the dialer steps and menu You should see. I also wanted to show off the theme I came up with.

I get that a lot when they're working on our towers. Only fix is to wait and keep trying. Sometimes it can last a bit but sometimes it can go on for days. A work around I found was to switch from LTE mode to CDMA and let it reprovision on evdo. On evdo the chances of programming are better. It's weird but it works for me most of the time when ehrpd keeps giving me that error. Also I would like to point out that you're roaming and its just a hunch but maybe you can't update while roaming as you're on Verizon's network and not Sprint's which I think is required to pull ur info from.

Its cool you helped more than I did but if thats true about having issues with updating then that happened to me about twice so far meaning about them working on the tower

Yea I learned that the hard way.. If you get that error while trying to update your profile or prl a handsfree activation is the worst thing you could do. Was stuck with a non working phone with a phone number of 0000003410 or something like that. The reason why I assume it's tower work related is because the problem is on ehrpd only. Once I switch to CDMA mode the process gets completed whether I'm on evdo or 1xrtt. In OP's case though I think it's roaming related.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
I had sprint change my username & I had to reset phone by ##72786# once the phone rebooted i let it run the Hands Free Activation and it worked..
I could swear, like others, that I'm having better results with 55015 than 2000. Time will tell still, but previously i was seeing no network connection far too often, signal bars but no 3G or 4G. Have had constant connection so far since switching to 55015 lat night, and i hope it continues, and i hope i dont have any call/text issues due to 800 mhz band or whatever.
Was such a shame to have such a nice phone with such crappy service!

actually it didn't work for me
Data is really weird for me right now... (a month ago it was fine) I'm constantly flashing new roms
I go between the pacman, liquidsmooth and cm remix
I actually thought it was a radio/prl/ programming issue but now think that it is a rom issue
My house gets horrible data about .4 megs (enough for streaming spotify)
My work gets awesome data about 2.2 megs
I'm about to flash the newest cm remix (because cm remix has been the most reliable when it comes to data
It is hard to believe that there are only two pp customers on this board
Actually I am on RingPlus so I guess that the stuff I do to fix my data issues after flashing a ROM will work on any Sprint network- based company.
Can you try flashing the latest Sprint radios? This link contains all the radios: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/sprint-develop/sprint-radio-collection-t2195481
I recommend flashing the radio GA02, report back with results please.

I've got a toroplus on Page Plus, and unfortunately the 'Update PRL and Profile' trick is no good for us. Page Plus uses Verizon's network, not Sprint's, so our phones have to be manually flashed using ETS and PRLs can be updated using a neat little app called CDMATools. (It's on the forum here somewhere, needs to be a system app) I'm thinking that 'Update Profile' is similar to *228 OTA programming on Verizon's network. That of course doesn't work either for us. The nearest equivalent involves setting up a donor phone, running *228 on that, then pulling the authentication keys from that and writing them to the Toroplus - not exactly something you want to do every day or two to get data working again. .
Do you have your 'preferred network type' set to 3G? May not help, but it's a thought. There are also some more involved network mode settings exposed in the CDMATools app., may be worth poking around in there. It sounds like you're getting good 3G speeds at work, not sure why it would be so slow at home.
Oh I see, I thought PP runs on Sprint network.
Also you mentioned that he need "CDMATools" right? Well installing VanirAOSP (A KK 4.4.2 ROM) will give you CDMATools as a system app if you cant manage to get the app by itself.

**EDIT** To start, I'd like to say that once you've configured your phone properly you can flash whichever ROM you'd like with no problem. I flash mine all of the time, it's great.
PRL stands for Preferred Roaming List. It's a bit of firmware(?) used to program the phone and tell it which cell towers to use. So far as I know, the newer the better.
The profile is the data profile. When you update this, it fine tunes the data settings and includes the information your phone needs to communicate with the network to negotiate your Internet/MMS access.
If you're on a Sprint-based provider, you'd normally be able to provide the information to the best of your ability (following a trustworthy guide) and then connect to wi-fi to have the final configuration updated. This is what I did, I had no data access until I did this part.
But... since you're on PagePlus(which is Verizon-based) I don't know how simple or difficult this is. It may be as simple as flashing a PagePlus PRL and a Verizon radio. It may be more complicated. There are guides like this one available that should be of some help. Just remember to follow the direction to the letter, a single screw up can result in you not having data or cell service, and even worse you may end up on the phone having to lie to PagePlus.
thanks so much for all of your responses
to be clear, Profiles are not for verizon based /PP users, correct????
Yeah I kind of figured out that Data was independent of rom after about a 2 day freak out session. I have activated data and mms through the long process which involved a donor phone etc.. hence the freak out session (about the thought of doing all over again)
That being said I think some of the newer roms are messing with the data somehow... maybe its the switching between wifi and data... I don't know but I'm on the newest cm remix which I like for a lot of reasons and get data
btw I have it set up on my phone (to save battery) that when my wifi is on my data is off and vice versa does anyone think that the constant switchin on and off is causing problems???

You can grab the .apk from a ROM like Vanir and push it to /system/app/, or use a flashable .zip like this one here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48083686&postcount=150
For bonus points, add CDMATools.apk to the list in /system/addon.d/70-gapps.sh and it will stay through flashing ROM upgrades, just like your gapps.

Not firmware, just a list of towers and networks - but you've got the idea. Here's a fairly recent PRL modified for a Sprint phone on PP, works well for me:

Not Verizon radios, you need the Sprint one. Much more programmable. In fact, the only way to reprovision a Verizon GNex is to flash a modified Sprint CDMA radio. A Page Plus / Verizon prepaid PRL is needed though - that and the authentication keys which must be pulled from a donor phone.

Correct. Mine tries to update its profile every time I reboot, maybe because I don't have the shared secrets for 3g data? The profile update always fails, says "can't connect to server." I say "OK" and move on. My 1x data works fine (if you're familiar with PP plans, I'm on the 12, so 3g would just let me chew through my 10Mb/mo. data a bit faster.)

Thanks so much for this... right now I can get data but it takes a little longer to get working than I'm used to. sometimes I cant get data and about a few weeks back (at about the time my data problems began I did do #228 sel2 which I think updated my prl to 53401 (I didn't check it before hand. I'm flashing the prl you posted I'll report back soon
oh and I'm noticing horrible battery life on my cmremix but that would make sense because it is searching extra hard for towers ... right???
Thank you so much for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I downloaded vanir, changed the prl, backed up cdmatools so I could use it with any rom if need be and am flashing preferred rom now
will report back soon
says I'm on sprint... cool
the 3g icon works quickly and consistently
but there are two problems
one is that it is showing a '?' with a small version of the four bars
asking me to sign into the network
and speedtest is showing me network communication issues
I think its a 4g thing
I really think that is it... It is trying to get 4g and for the life of me I can't figure out how to tell it to stay away from 4g and just stick to 3g

Settings/Mobile Network Settings/Preferred Network Type/3G. At least that's where it's at in CM. Or, in CDMATools, Data Menu/Advanced/LTE off.

Wait...*228 worked for you? I thought that was a no-go for us? But if it updated your PRL it must have at least sort of worked. I always thought I was never supposed to do a *228 as that would mess things up.

Yeah it worked and screwed things up!!! I think that is where I went wrong I did the *228 and got a new prl that didn't work well
But thanks to this thread I think I'm good again... I think I'm on the newest Pacman and so far so good but when I reboot it takes a while to normalize
