I don't know why this is happening! My phone was working fine until after a few app updates, my phone continuously regenerates the ".nomedia" file on the Root of my Micro SD card! It is causing all my pictures to be undetected and it is annnoying! Any solutions?
Probably some app which can append that file to hide images misbehaving. You know what was updated, so find that app and disable hiding or remove it completely.

I still don't know which App it was causing the problem because I have 100+ apps and it would be a drag to check them all but in the end, I deleted this annoying App "Contract Killer" and seems that the .nomedia has stopped regenerating Suprising enough but it works Thanks for support ^.^

hi
i have just looked at my gallery and found the the photos in there wont display ,i get a sdcard pic with a ! infont of it for every photo i have taken!! any one got any thoughts on why this is and how i can get them back ..
I am getting a similar problem. I had my desire running legit eclair and photos were actually just deleting themselves off my SD card. I have recently rooted my phone and running leedroid 1.9 and now the matter has sort of got better. Instead of completely removing any trace of the photos it is now just not showing them in the HTC photo app although they are still there on the SD card? Any suggestions?

This was the first symptom of my SD card starting to self destruct.
Still trying to get to the bottom of whether it is a fake or a faulty SD, or whether my Desire destroyed the card.
may be a corrupt sd card would backup asap and try a new card see if that helps

I too am having this problem...
I noticed a couple of pictures seemed to be missing from the SD card, but restored these from an earlier backup. My initial thought being that maybe I'd inadvertently deleted them
The strange thing is, the same two pictures have been deleted again! And furthermore, they're also missing from an earlier backup of the 8GB card I used to have in the phone.
So, given that I'm now using a 32GB card, and I've lost the same two images, this does not seem to be SD card specific.
It's quite possible I've also lost more, but I'd need to check to be sure - the two I know of just happen to be fairly obvious ones.
I'm now wondering whether this has anything to do with the 3D Gallery app - because I've noticed odd behaviour (e.g. duplicate images) when using this in the past? I'll restore my images again, but uninstall that app first to see if that makes any difference.
(FYI - I'm using an unbranded Desire running Stock Froyo.)
New 32 gig ad card so I know its not that.
I think they are still there but just get blank boxes with a card simble with an ! Mark in font rinsed of a pic .
Forgot I'm running stock froyo and am unbranded.
Sorry forgot I'm running stock froyo and am unbrande

I uninstalled the app, and restored all my missing images yesterday. (As it happens, I'd lost several images from various different folders.)
So far at least, everything's fine and the images are yet to disappear again. Bearing in mind that when I last restored them on Friday, and they were gone by Monday, it's not conclusive yet - but it could well be related to the 3D gallery app.
I was using the APK file found here.
Can anyone else with this problem confirm whether or not they've installed the 3D gallery app too? There seem to be a lot of variations of this app, perhaps some are more buggy than others.
Someone find the solution?
I have this problem too.
You may try to unmount the SD card first.. and putting it back in, using official way by menu -> settings -> SD and phone memory.

its not the same, but i found if photos move folders it still keeps them lingering in the gallery for awhile... I have loads of photos on my phone so if i leave the gallery app open for a few minutes it starts re-jigging itself and correcting all the 'missing photos' in gallery and eventually reconfigures itself (i assume after doing a little scan).... first noticed this when i added a folder to the sd card with pics in and couldnt see them, rebooted, opened and closed gallery a few times - nothing - when i left gallery open for a few minutes it eventually appeared...

Normally I just use the HTC menu to change only charge to Mass Storage, and after finish my job I use safe remove on windows.
I think your idea maybe could prevent this kind problem.
Thanks to remember this aspect, I forgot-it completely.

If it's happen is a serious case.
So I mean that I need to Terminate HTC Gallery to prevent possibles issues with my precious photos!!!
So this fact is more understandable because it is only photos that goes to "galheiro", as I say in Portuguese.
Hi everyone. For some reason, on my wife's Evo (running Evio 2 w/ Netarchy's latest kernel), music apps are not able to "see" any of my wife's music files. We had similar issues with her photos, but for some reason the gallery just started working again.
Basically, when I go in through Root Explorer I can see that the files are there, and even can play them in the music player, but when I open the Music player I just get a "no music found" error message. Tried using Winamp and it just scans my SD card and finds nothing.
I re-formatted her SD card last night, re-synced all of her music, and still no dice. She is growing weary of bugs like this and is beginning to beat the drum for iPhone ("my old iPhone never had these problems!"), so I desperately need to solve this problem quickly.
Can anyone help or shed some light on what might be happening? Thanks in advance!
Make sure there isn't a .nomedia file in there... that'll stop the music from being scanned. Also make sure it's in the "music" folder, although some apps scan everything, some scan what you tell it to scan, and others only scan the "music" folder & its subfolders.
My Evo + xda Premium App = This post.
Try to unmount then mount your sd card.

+1 on this. Look in all your folders where your media is, and be sure there isn't a .nomedia file in there. If there is, delete it and reboot the phone. Problem will be gone.
I'm not even sure how the .nomedia file's become present in certain folders, but it can happen. (certain apps auto create them and place them there for reasons unbeknownst to me)

Also, with the .37 kernels, the usb transfer/read speeds were slow, so it could just "show up" after a period of time, but yes, either check for the .nomedia folder, or a quick reboot will make it show up.
Thanks everyone. I will check her phone tonight when I get home for the .nomedia file...sounds promising.
Hello Everyone,
As you know, when you have multiple apps that can fulfill the same function Android asks you to choose one as the default. My problem is, if I choose one other than the built in Android app (like "Browser") it will lose it's setting after reboot. I've tried searching the forums for a solution but most of the threads deal with how to clear the default app setting and don't deal with how to make the default app settings permanently stick. I've tried apps like "Default App Manager" but after reboot it still resets. Can anyone suggest a solution to this issue? Thanks.
are you checking the checkbox on the bottom that says "Remember my Decision" (well something like that) when asked which action to do? you gotta check that dude..
Yes, I have been doing that! That of course was the first thing that I did: Check the box to remember and than click on the app. That's why I find this behavior so strange. I notice this was happening on both the R800a build that came with the phone, and the new .368 rom that I just loaded. Note that I also made it a point to keep these programs on the phone memory rather than the SD card, but it still makes no difference.
Same problem here...
at least don't nag.. was just trying to help
Sorry, to sound like I was nagging on you. I just assumed the obvious but I should have clarified that in my original post.
Try using different alternative apps. Like opera or dolphin for browser

Hi Cat,
That's what I'm doing, but the problem is when an app requires the browser to be opened it will ask for me to choose an app. I check the box at the bottom and then click on Opera. This will be remembered by android as long as I don't reboot the phone. The minute I reboot the phone it will forget what I set and ask me to choose a default app again. This is quite annoying.
Did you edit your build. Prop?
Deleted any system apps?

I only froze things like facebook etc. and have the problem of reconfirming default actions again and again. Someone suggested to make Sure replacement microsd should have same volume name like PHONE CARD or whatever original was. I,m not at my pc so cannot check if that fixes it. Hope it helps

Sometimes if you are getting Force-Closes, the system will reset the "Default" action for that intent if the intent failed with a force close of an app. Are you getting many FCs?
*shrugs* Past that, not sure what would be causing it. Maybe another app?
So, I have been having a lot of FC's with the media process so I figured I would clear the data/cache of media storage in hopes it would get rid of this. It did! However, it also got rid of all my images/videos from the Touchwiz Gallery app. The pictures are still there (I can see them via ES File Explorer and QuickPic). However, the Gallery app isn't showing anything. I tried unmounting/mounting the SD Card. I also tried clearing data/cache from the Gallery.apk. Nothing!
Any other ideas?! I don't really use the Gallery app as it is hideous and slow, but it is linked to the camera.apk so I want it to show the pictures again.
Thanks in advance...
Nobody?! Wow... =(
Ever try restarting your phone lol? It might not be automatically scanning your memory

I hope you're kidding.
Step at me bro! Jk =p. But no seriously try. When you restart your phone it will rescan your memory for pics and vids.
It's worth a try. Your file explorer may of scanned but possibly not your phone. I've forgotten to restart before XD
I'm either extremely stupid somehow or caught a noob mistake >_> which is it D=
I've had a lot of issues with music/pictures/videos not opening or the internal SD card not being read and a restart fixes it. Only has happened to me on Blazer ROM 1.8 although I don't know if it is coincidence or not.
Check for .nomedia on folders.
let's go to the next level... BRICK IT!!!
Tried all of this. I got it to show up after downloading the Rescan Media app and restarting my phone. However, only 100 pictures/videos of my 203 that's on the card is showing in the Gallery app. In QuickPic, everything shows. What could be the issue? So frustrating...

Yeah, I've moved everything around. Put all my photos on my sd card. No my gallery says I have no items. I'm getting frustrated also!
Hi,
Been having a battery draining issue on my 8.4, something called Media is constantly hogging the battery and in many instances is using more power than the screen. The Media icon is blue with a downward arrow and I can't find a way to stop it. I did a lot of reading about this but cant find a fix other than to remove any corrupted media files. I removed the sd card as that is the only place I keep photos and vids, but it is still killing my battery really quickly.
This isn't the mediaserver process by the way, just Media.
Any ideas please people?
Thanks.
Don't see it on my tab. maybe something baked into a 3rd party app?
This is a well known issue especially with Samsung devices. It's the media scanner having problems with (usually) certain files on an SD card. Just Google "Media scanner causing battery drain" and you will find a fix.

IIRC you need to store an empty file named .nomedia in the root of your SD card to stop the scanning. Don't forget the leading period.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, I'll give the empty file thing a try tomorrow.
I did find lots of info about similar things but not quite the same. In the end, I managed to kill a couple of processes relating to the download manager and then I unmounted the sd card, rebooted and remounted and its been ok since.
Thanks :good:
An update on this.
The .nomedia file placed in the root of the sdcard does indeed stop the media server activity, but putting it in the root will stop any of your media files / photos etc from being visible in the gallery. I have 3 folders on the sd root, android, DCIM and one I can't re!member the name of. Adding the .nomedia file to all but the DCIM folder seems to do the trick, but I still have no media files in the gallery.
Can't seem to find a way to make it rescan the files so they appear back in the gallery, anyone know how that is done please?
Thanks again :good:
