Background data usage - HTC One X

I've had my HOX for a week now. The first four days of this billing cycle
Android OS has used 450mb of background data which is unreal to me. On my HD2 I removed Facebook and tons of other apps I didn't use which cut down background data to almost nothing. What can I do to cut it down dramatically on this phone? At this rate my entire 3gb if data will be used up in no time on background data alone. Thanks.

That's way too much data for the time period. Have you got Play store updates set to update over 3G? If so you should restrict it to update on WiFi only.
Also, in settings, more, usage, it should tell you what apps have been consuming data.

Disable any apps when not in use. Or simply turn off data when you are in wifi capable areas. Simple as that. Or just repeat what you have done with your HD2.

Disable Autosync{ it syncs your gmail, facebook, dropbox and other apps too } and u can also change weather updates to manual.

You may also check it urself what apps consumes too much data Settings >> More >> Usage. Then decided what to to..

Autosync syncs your gmail, facebook, dropbox and other apps too and consumes a lot of data so always disable it to save data
and in google play don't allow apps to update automatically...

[Q] Data Usage

I just noticed that suddenly Google Services start using more data over the few days period. Previously it was not the case. Currently data usage is around 220 MB for 14 days, out of total 99 MB has been used by Google Services and all data usage is in background. I doubt it might be one of major reason, I start loosing my battery less than day.
Are other people facing or Am I alone in the ship.
Recently I did not install any new application which is main culprit of this.
For record purposes, I am using GSM 4.0.2
Waiting for your feedback.
Do you have google music syncing?
No. Don't have Google Music Sync
What does it list? Mine says 0 foreground and 1.04 mb in the background for an entire month. Listed is Bookmarks sync, account manager, services framework, contacts sync, network location.
Did you clear all of your contacts from your phone? Do you have a couple thousand contacts with pictures?
It mentioned contact bookmarks and all in background 100 Mb in 14 days.
Don't have thousand of contacts with photos only 20 to 25 max
perhaps any other things you are syncing? (google+ for example?)
Did you ever find out what was causing the issue? I've noticed the same thing recently and haven't been able to track down why Google Services is suddenly using so much data.
Backing up application data perhaps?

Tried turning that off and it didn't help much. Still on the same pace for data usage as zoobihoobi. Google services has used 100Mb in 7 days and last month it used 11Mb for the entire month.
Similar issue
I've gone from 3-5mb monthly to 80 in 6 days, an then it has tapered off again so that it's back to much the same. Any ideas?
I have the same issue here. 134 Mb consumed in the last 6 days.
I am constantly installing and updating apps, so maybe one of these apps is very hungry, but how can I check this out?
It's getting on nerves now....No way to find the culprit and usage data is increasing day by day....
Same here. 0 foreground data, 68M background data over the last 5 days.

Ditto here:
0.00 Foreground & 60.75MB in 7 days with no significant changes in apps etc.
Same issue here. Google services consumed, in background, 32mb in 5 days.
Galaxy nexus.
Possible Clue to the enormer data consumption
Hi,
I have the same problem with my G Nex. Went from about 5MB/month to 80Mb/week and 21MB used only yesterday.
I found a possible cause on the galaxynexusforum. I can't post links in this forum yet, so go to the forum and search for a thread titled: "problems with google services framework"
In this thread it has been suggested that it may have something to do with the syncing of the stock browser. And indeed, when I went to the sync setting, the only indicator of currently syncing was shown next to the browser. I deactivated it. I will report back in a day or two, if that was any help.
Meanwhile, maybe some of you want to give it a shot as well.

Well... Noticed as well. Google services now reaching around 300MB since 15/03 ... Something is not right... I have no syncing except Gmail (email, calendar)...
I have a problem like this before, some exchange services was using huge amounts of data and battery constantly...
What I did was disable my Exchange Mail accounts.. (remove them)... After I confirmed that was the problem, I re-added my exchange accounts and the problem hasn't reoccurred..

Google+ RealTimeChatService?

This service is started every time I use Google+.
Is there any way to prevent it being started?

sorry to resume old thread..
but i would like to know too why that service often running (ya running, not sleeping) in the background..it use few cpu 1-2% usually, but it does run..
every sync/notifications/upload things are disabled on google+ app and in account and synch setting...so why that service drain the battery?
i tried clean app data and disable again every synch, reboot phone, ecc..but nothing..im thinking to freeze the app when i dont have to open it

2gb data in 1 day? Please help

I rarely use more than 4gb in a month, and my data resets on the 4th.
I deleted alot of apps on the 4th but I dont remember what all I deleted. I checked my data usage today and was shocked at what I saw. Using MyATT it shows usage being close to the same.
My question is there anyway to figure out what app or apps used nearly 2gb of data in 1 day?
I didnt download any large files or tether or anything. Just xda browsing and surfing the net. Ive attached last months data usage to give you an idea of how I use data. As well as a screenshot of the MyATT app and my data usage for this month so far.
Thanks for any help or ideas

If you scroll down in Data Usage, it should tell you the amount of data your apps are using. If you tap on each app, it will show you how much of the data it uses is being used in the foreground or background.
If you look in the pic, it says removed apps used 1.85gb
Im trying to figure out if I can see what apps used so much data

Removed Apps is all the apps you uninstalled. It compiled it as one and added up all the total data usage of the uninstalled apps prior to being installed.
You can go to Google Play's website and look under "Other apps in my library" to see all the apps you have on your account, even if you uninstalled them from your phone.
Of course, it won't tell you which app used how much data since it's no longer on your phone, but knowing which apps you had uninstalled should give you an idea how much data they would use. For example, if you had uninstalled a torrent app, it would certainly be the culprit. Apps that also constantly sync with a server, such as weather apps/widgets and streaming video/music apps, would also be likely culprits. It's also possible most, if not all, of the apps you uninstalled combined would have been the culprit since they may have automatically updated or synced to a server in the background a few times.
Unfortunately, it doesn't keep that kind of detail for uninstalled apps. But looking at "Other apps in my library" in Google Play's website would at least give you a general idea.
Thanks everyone for the help. Im thinking it was the free talking caller id app. That is the only app that ive had other problems with.

Did you delete the cache of the Samsung Gallery app? I noticed 438mb data usage the first day I got the phone from the gallery app syncing all my Facebook and picasa albums. My coworker had the same thing.

Just the answer i was looking for. THANK YOU. I was going to post why i have over 1/2 a GB on removed apps.
For future reference, there is an app called "my data manager" that will monitor all this for you and break it down into easy to read charts to show you where your data goes each month. It will also show projected use and daily allocations to keep it within your cap.

+1 on this. Have it running on every mobile on my plan (5). Great way to track usage.
Sent from somewhere in the Kessel system using JediX 6.1.2 on an AT&T Galaxy Note 2 and Tapatalk.
Im having the same issue with att it seems the data counter doesnt reset properly.
My bill resets on the 17th but on the 18 of this month I had already used 5 gb according to dialing *3283#. But when I check on the att website through my lap top it shows the correct amount 400mb.
Might want to give it a try and see.
It's done that for the past 2 months.
I called ATT and they said since I dowloaded a large game the night before my data flipped to zero I shows on next months data usage which is BS.
I've had ATT since 2008 and I would always get zeroed out at the start of my bill no matter how much data I use the day before it's supposed to start at 0mb.

Background Android OS Data Usage...0.9 GB IN UNDER A WEEK!

-Auto-update only over Wi Fi networks
-Restrict mobile data selected
-Backup my data de-selected
-Auto-sync data disabled
-No accounts currently synced (no FB, email, etc.)
How the f*&% is this possible?
YouTube??? YouTube never hardly counts as using YouTube it always counts as android OS. If not YouTube its certainly an app

My settings are exactly the same and I also see a similar pattern...I have 100 mb usage in a week..simply unbelievable!
Did research on the net, but most solutions are already reflected in the settings
However, I think droidwall is helping a bit...I have turned off data usage for Google system, services, search and some other apps and I see data something in the range of 35 -40 mb now.. still high though

What is Removed Apps and users?

I looked at my data usuage today and noticed "Removed Apps and users", had used 102gb of data. Didn't think much of it, till later on when logging into mytmobile to pay my bill. Where I noticed my data usuage was over 103gb under 4 days of usuage this billing period. I did delete a few apps recently but not 102gb of it.

It's what it says. It's apps you deleted that had used data. So it groups all the data from apps you have deleted during your current data cycle and shows the data usage for apps/users that are no longer installed.
understanding what "removed apps and users" is i want it gone.
i have a hatred for people minding my personal business, so i need to know how to delete this problem app
