Just curious as I just got my S3 today (came from the evo lte) loving it so far. running paranoid 4.1.1 right now and like it just a few little bugs here and there with camera/alarm and mms so thinking of going to a stock looking samsung rom.
Just wondering what is everyones favorite rom for overall performance/battery life and just least amount of bugs. Like everything to work just hoping to get some optimizations and tweaks to make the phone perform better than what samsung puts out.
Looked at Blazer ROM and seems like the best from a few minutes of reading.
Once again thanks

Just cant wait for a 4.1.1 rom from samsung. I saw one but doesnt seem too complete.

Jellybomd is solid, still liked Blazer more. Paranoid will own once its completely stable. Thought about flashing anakonda tonight.... very highly themed and I've heard good things.
OdexedBlue is what I always go back to. I've used Blazer, FreeGS3, JB Leak LIF, and stock rooted. There's no comparison.
Samsung Galaxy S3
OdexedBlue ROM
LI3 Stock Kernel
LIF Baseband
XDA Premium - Support our developers, modders, & themers!
FreeGS3 with Trinity kernel, same stock feel with the little tweets here and there. Undervolted and overclocked, though I usually run stock speed. I get easily 13-15 hours with 4-5 hours screen on time.

been on anakonda for a couple weeks, definitely diggin it, kinda torn between it, and wicked sensations with the anakonda theme, but i like using wifi tether on ICS for encryption purposes and a couple of the wicked sensations morphs look pretty nice with anakonda. battery life is great on both roms and i havent had a single FC problem with either of them, also quite speedy.... big fan of team venum
Stock Freeza's DeoDexed ROM. I themed it the way I want using Morphology, and I absolutely love it. I have a themed stock messaging app (always wanted this) centered clock and everything.
Get about full day and a half on battery, and that's texting, calling and using some data.

I'm a fan of Wicked Sensations and FreeGS3 ROMs. I've used both as everyday ROMs, and have had zero problems with both. FreeGS3 is more closer to stock look and use, and Wicked is a very cool themed blue (Wicked also has a green/orange theme named AnaKonda that is just as cool). When I don't use and abuse my phone in terms of videos/browsing/social media, etc, I get great battery life from both. Just my $.02.

I myself just came from the evo lte i also like a rom with the samsung look. i really like a rom that still includes the motion for the s3, thats one of my favorite parts of the phone. but i have been using peoples rom and it has a launcher , or touch wiz 5x6 or 5x5 column that you can choose from. it also allows you to choose what samsung apps you would like to install with it as well. it is blue colored but it still has the same layout just different icons. i really enjoy it and i haven't had to many bugs.

TPR is a great rom. However, Everyone's experience and choices will vary.. So typically, Threads like this are quickly closed/locked.. Just spend some time with roms that interest you.. And see what you personally think of them.
Okay, so I'm sick of waiting for AT&T's "Official" release of Jelly Bean, therefore I've decided to flash a JB ROM. Having flashed a couple of times before (on my Cappy), I know to read a LOT beforehand. Now that that's done, I have narrowed my ROM choices to DrewGaren's Milestone 7 and Serenity 1.2. My question: For those of you who has tried both of these ROMS, which is more stable, and which do you prefer and why?

Def Serenity 1.2
I've tried them both and actually prefer JellyBean747 M7 to Serenity. It seems closer to stock for me, and a little cleaner. That said, I did make a few changes to get it working the way I wanted. In addition to installing the QuickFix, I installed KT's kernel and used the TMO RIL files to fix the international calling thing.
I do see that Drew has Serenity 1.3 builds for TMO and Sprint. I might try 1.3 on my AT&T S3 when he releases it. Of course, I'm also hoping for JB747 1.0 in the near future, too.
Both are great ROMs. Make a Nandroid and try them out. I've flashed three or four different ROMs since trying JB747, but I keep going back. :good:
i've tried both. and i will give my props to Serenity.
and the main reason is that the ROM is based off AT&T. whereas JB747 is based off Sprint. i have the family shared plan, where i can "officially" tether, and i couldn't do that in JB747, because it was thinking Sprint when i'm on AT&T.

Agreed, but here's my concern (probably should have expressed this in my initial post, lol). Although Serenity 1.2 is based off of AT&T, it is a port from a different PHONE than the SGS3. And, the JB747 is stock-based on a different CARRIER, like you said. So, what's more important as far as stabilty is concerned, a ROM based on a different phone or stock-based on a different carrier?
Anyone?

I've come to the same spot you have and am interested in which of these two retain the most stock features.
in the case of TouchWiz, there's not too much of any differences between the 2, except these that i have noticed...
* the S Pen settings. can't really do anything with this.
* hover mode (or whatever it's called). where you can have a window of the stock internet browser (not Chrome or anything else) while another app is full screen. same for videos.
and that's all i really noticed. i really like the window browser feature. i don't know how to trigger it all the time. for example, i'm only able to trigger it if i'm within an (like TweetDeck for example), and i click a link. then that opens a window browser.
HTC One X PLUS was had poor wifi reception in my home. Wifi Analyzer shows 20 dBm signal drop when you hold phone in your palm. Not with S3. All good now. But miss Sense + Jelly Bean 4.1.1. I know Jelly Bean stock update is probably happening within the next days/weeks for S3?? I'm a Power User but got everything on the HTC with JB to work the way I wanted using Widget Locker and Nova Launcher. HTC stock keyboard much better so Swiftkey 3 wasn't even necessary. Definitely need Swiftkey 3 on this 4.0 Touchwiz phone.
I spent hours and hours learning Android and setting up the HTC. Don't want to spend all weekend again. But also would like to be on 4.1.x. I was an iPhone Jailbreaker so I'm not afraid of rooting and/or custom ROM but I will be very frustrated with bugs or losing useful features just to get a custom ROM. I'm sure this has been asked 100 times but I think I've explained my usage goals enough to get a decent recommendation? I think a main goal if I do go custom ROM is I want the one that is the most established meaning, most likely to still be around as new devices are introduced 1, 2, 3 years from now. I'd prefer to not keep having to learn the quirks of a different ROM, but I'm also not married to Samsung Touchwiz.
a) Stick with ICS and wait for official JB update and just live with it?
b) Install JB 4.1.2 Custom ROM that is closest to stock? Which one?
c) Wait for stable custom ROM that is based on JB 4.2?
If (b) can someone post a link to the "Custom ROM for S3 Newbie Guide" ?
Thanks in advance.
My advice would be to test out some of the popular ROMs around here, such as: CM10, AOKP, AOCP, etc. There are also ROMs based on TouchWiz with rooted features that have been debloated.
I personally have been using Task650 AOKP for a while now. It offers great performance, battery life, customization, and stability. He offers great support and updates.
Ultimately only you can decide which is right for you as they're all slightly different and we all have different needs from our devices.
Read around the development sections and you'll find something to suit your needs in no time.
Task650 AOKP 4.1.2 JB. 11/18 Build
Underwear kernel (Intellidemand/Deadline)
Well after spending at least 25 hours setting up that HTC (much of it was first time using Android Learning Curve and getting Questions answered and app suggestions.) I'm sort of burnt out. I started reading and reading and reading more here and ran across these two threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869300&highlight=grey+7
And although rooting seems like no big deal, it seems there really isn't as far as I can tell a JB ROM that doesn't have at least some issues or lacks some Touchwiz features that may be missed?
I'm leaning toward (a) Wait for official 4.1 update. Should be any day now?

Is there a stable Touchwiz based ROM, debloated, based on JB 4.1 I should consider? I really am not interested in "custom" I'm just interested in as close to stock Touchwiz ROM but just JB instead of ICS. And something that when Official OTA update is out, I can switch to that if desired.

Head over the development section, not original just development and check out the thread started by Drewgaren. I haven't personally tried it as I prefer AOKP, but I've heard it's a nearly perfectly working JB TouchWiz based ROM.

This looks like what I would want. This video seems to confirm:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzJR3I6nLvA
But is there version for I747 and there's no issues?
Does the official OTA update require a reinstall and reconfig of all apps?
After skipping around all 742 pages of the CleanROM thread (geez) sounds like exactly what I want. Problem is, it's for Verizon I535 S3, not the AT&T I747 S3. So what's the closest thing to CleanROM that works for AT&T I747?
I think that Frosty JB and Black jelly ...both are bug free Tmobile ports. Both are stock...or near stock touchwiz. Frosty is straight stock and black jelly has a few mods/ theme ...but they both have been flawless for me. You can find them in the SGH-I747 development section easily. I have tried all the ao•p original ROMs and they all had some form of compromise.

The new version is going to be released soon as the current V2 is not working but it will be a day or two more she said so is all good.

Any success on an official port for the Att version of the rom? Or can we retain our modem through AROMA?

The obvious things like heart rate monitor don't work so let's not be ridiculous.
But things like ultimate power saver, kids mode, etc. Work.
I would guess wifi calling does not work do to it being international. ..I don't use it so Idk.
I'm sure other roms from the i9505 forum work just as well if not all of them....I personally have only tried 2...and both worked like a charm...
Again....I don't use wifi calling or texting but I'm pretty sure it don't work.
I was looking at this ROM earlier lol. Got caught up in the Bobcat theme and forgot to try it out. Thanks for the heads up tho.

The OP links to RivalStorm which is a ROM for the i9505 variant. In his post shortbus was pointing out that RivalStorm can be flashed on our m919 devices without any concern for ending up with an expensive paper weight.
To further it, I have now flashed multiple touchwiz roms for the i9505 and have never run into a problem. Sure some things are borked here and there, but those are issues that i9505 owners would likely have as well.
I believe that the reason we have no issues with these roms as compared to other international variants is that our device shares the same processor as the i9505, and there is no carrier specific bloatwear to bork things, whereas, other international variants have octacore processors which would clearly have comparability issues in the OS.
ROMS I have flashed without incident are as follows:
RivalStorm
Imperium
Phoenix
Samy Deluxe, and
YCD
I am presently running Imperium as my daily driver but have also run Phoenix as a daily driver for a long time. Both are excellent s5 ROMS that run flawlessly as far as I have seen.
I have not flashed any GPE ROMS from the i9505 forum as we have quite a few available to us in the m919 android development forum. Moreover I traded in my Nexus 5 for a S4 in part because I was bored with vanilla android, so they don't interest me anyway. I have not flashed any Foreign kernels other than those contained in the i9505 ROMS, though I think it is likely safe to do so since the kernels in the i9505 ROMS cause no issues. Nor have I flashed any M919 kernels into the i9505 ROMS.
Happy flashing!

I haven't noticed such a specific lag. I came from the nexus 5 which has less lag overall than the SG s4. Moreover, the s4 has so much bloat that lag here and there doesn't surprise me at all. That said, no I haven't noticed it. I'm on imperium and tested it for giggles and no problem there.

Well if you want to utilize T-Mobiles LTE speeds 40MB/s+, you'd want to check if the APN's set to "fast.t-mobile.com."
Most of the i9505 ROMs I've used don't have that APN preset, so I always entered it in myself. It just takes a couple seconds to check which one you're on and a couple more seconds to enter it in..
I haven't ran into any i9505 ROMs, that didn't work, which is why I don't visit this TMobile forum that much, there's much more action over on the i9505 forums especially with different ROMs.
