Can anyone recommend a touch recovery with both internal and external storage?
I currently have the latest CWM recovery but it only has access to the internal storage.
I was hoping an update will come out for the last few weeks and so far no luck.
thank you.
Try twrp. I have access to both with that.

Hi, I'm stumped and I've seen others post who are experiencing the same thing I am:
I don't see my 32Gb SD card when I boot into recovery?
I've tried updating to the newest CWM and then I even reformatted the card in this new phone and still nothing? All that shows up is the internal storage? I can see the card in all other cases, like to save/play music/photos and the likes...I'm stumped, anyone have something I can try?

CWM 5.8.4.7 is the latest version that will allow you to flash from both internal and external.

I guess I wasn't clear, I have the newest cwm on my phone.

I'm actually having the same issue on my phone as well with all the versions of CWM that I've tried.
The 5.8.4.7 v. will allow flash from ext. and int. the newest v. will not

Hey guys i just notice that my SD card is not being read off CWM only the external one, whats the deal its formatted FAT 32?
Same here mine worked with an older version of cwr then installed the one from Rom manager now just recognizes inlay internal memory.

Use TWRP recovery instead.
http://bestandroidtips.com/twrp-custom-recovery-2-2-for-t-mobile-galaxy-s3.html
I'm currently using it now but it makes your backup s separate from cwr so your left with two kinds of backups

i accidentally formated everything in the recovery and not sure which affected it but now my phone doesn't boot. it only starts until the Samsung Galaxy S3 logo. any help would be appreciated ><
If you have a backup you can restore do that... if not flash a ROM/kernel combo

download mode, odin, ??????????, profit
well right now i have no files on my internal sd card cause i formatted that :S
i think one way i can fix it is if i can restore from external sd card which i can't find a cwm recovery version that supports it at the moment...
Have you tried using TeamWin recovery? I cant confirm if it reads external SD but others have reported that it does.

thanks infamous_cheez
i flashed twrp through odin and flashed a new rom from external sdcard since i only have a 1gb microsd on hand.
thank you so much!
External sdcard readers and a recovery that reads external (cwm touch 4.8.4.5) ftw. I'm pretty sure twrp does read ext also though.

Just noticed it will not use the external 64 gb SD card formatted as exfat. Are there any newer versions that will work with it,and still be able to restore older backups. Thanks.

well considering CWM 5.8... what ever is old... i would suggest trying the newest CWM. 6.0.1.2
Download Rom Manager from the market to install the newest CWM.
or move your backups off your external sd to your internal sd and restore them from there...
note: cwm 5.8.... if i remember correctly had the external and internal backwards, and cwm 6.0.1.2 has them correct..
for further information, cwm has their own website... clockworkmod.com

Didn't really answer my question.. intrrnal and external are not backwards in my version. And from what I've read 6.x still does not support xfat. And also if I upgrade I will not be able to restore my backups.

Doubt its going to happen. Try TWRP, it might support it but idk.

Did More digging apparently EXfat is not open source so even the latest recoveries ie 6.0.1.2 don't support it .

I read a while ago that becuase it would require a license from Micrsoft, CWM will never support exFat. I strongly suggest that you don't format your 64Gb card to FAT32. The performance of that card will degrade greatly. You should just get an 8Gb card to use with CWM.

I don't understand how that is possible, when exfat is significantly slower that fat32 by design...

I'm not use to factory reset in recovery wiping internal storage. Because of this I had wipe all my titanium backups prior (now I know to keep it on the external storage).
But this means every time I install a new rom my internal storage will be wiped (unless I backup to external storage) ?

internal storage doesn't get wiped when you factory reset. i'm using CWM from the toolkit (the universal CWM). what are you using?

really? I'm using the same CWM from toolkit. I remember doing a factory reset in recovery and install new rom. I noticed all my files were gone. I'll do it again and see what happens..
I just wipe/factory reset from CWM and internal storage all gone.

Get off of cwm and use twrp. It definitely doesn't wipe internal storage.

As a heads up, I had an issue with the latest TWRP not wiping anything for me, verified it twice. I reverted back to 2.3.1.1, keep an eye on that though.
I think they released a new twp to fix that

Was looking for this thread because I'm having the same problem. I flashed 2 roms with cwm and didnt have any issue with backups, the 3rd time I lost everything on internal sd. Is there anyway to get TB to recognize extsd? I know it did on my evo, but I can't get it to on the note...of course TB is to busy t9 help
