Hi,
It's not possible to gain warranty or updates, once you are unlocked and rooted the device. Even if you re-lock it.
Why do you need that when you have plenty of options to explore the device?
I've flashed CM9 Alpha 7, works great and it's really far from the stock.

So once unlocked and rooted you will never get a ota

I'm sure. Until I know, no one claimed warranty or OTA updates after Re-locked and Un-rooted the device.

Updating software after rooting

Dear frens,
I've rooted my HOX and unlocked bootloader. However, I still use stock rom and kernel.
My question is, can I update the software straight away without unroot back my phone? Some of my frens told me that once you unroot your phone, you cannot update your software even though u r still using the stock rom. Is it true?
Please advise.
Thanks, guys.

You will have to relock your bootloader and flash stock recovery to perform the ota. Some people recommend unrooting first before doing an ota just incase there's any problems

As you are on stock there is no need to relock your bootloader so long as you are doing the update via OTA (over the air) i.e from your handset.
you will however need to flash stock recovery before doing the update.

Can I ask where to find the stock recovery file?
..... Manage to find it at www.androidrevolution.nl/ARHD/index.php?dir=OneX/Recovery/

The funny thing is that you unlocked your bootloader and voided the warranty and you don't for what?!
Some apps require root. Im not sure why you unlocked your bootloader because you dont seem to need root and like someone said above you have voided your warranty.

Then it will not be a firmware upgrade but system enhancement.
It will update some system apps and might be recovery, bootloader etc...

Nope unfortunately not.
don't think so. It is the easiest way and also the official way.
But it can void your warranty (not if you are a developper apparently xD)

No.
But you can install a custom ROM or root the phone without unlocking the bootloader if you can turn off the security check placed on the NAND storage (i.e S-ON). So far devs have not been able to turn off security (i.e S-OFF) on One X, but it will happen eventually. Till then you’ll have to unlock and potentially void your warranty to root or install a custom ROM.
I've rooted all my previous phones but this time I'm waiting for soff.
Am I right in thinking that when soff is released you can unlock your bootloader without htc dev?

With S-Off you don't need to unlock the bootloader to root or install custom ROMs. That is one of the advantages, no bootloader unlock = no warranty issues. I waited for over a month monitoring S-Off development, but it wasn't really going anywhere. Tired of waiting, I just went ahead and unlocked the bootloader.
It took over a year for some HTC devices (i.e Desire) to gain S-Off, so you never know how long it'll take. But hopefully it'll happen soon...

You'll probably receive it soon.
I didn't pull out the ota file before the update, but even if I did, it would probably work on O2 devices only.
So I guess it's better to wait for the right ota for your device.
Just for reference, my software number is 2.19.207.3 after the update.
