This may have been asked before but I have yet to find it. Is there going to be in american version for volume hacking? At&t specifically speaking.
Volume hacking?
Just what do you mean by that?
If you are trying to make the external speaker louder try voodoo louder or volume +.
You can manipulate the volume on the international version. Not only for the external volume but for notifications, ringtones and earphones. There is a there is a thread that talks about international version. The program allows you to increase the volume limit on your phone.
Here it is......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722136
I'm also interested in hack to remove the volume upper limits of the AT&T SIII. My understanding is that the International SIII has a Wolfson DAC while the US version has a Qualcomm DAC. Some of the hacks found in XDA and apps in the market are to remove the volume limits from the Galaxy S family of phones with Wolfson (S & SIII International) and Yamaha (SII) DACs.
Audio is different on American SGS3'ses. It's pretty high out-of-the-box. I have some volume tricks in my ROM - try it.
And what are those tricks ?

I'd also like to try those tricks, but I don't want to update my ROM. I'm running Stock 747UCALG1 Rooted
I'm interested in volume modifications as well. Currently on my S3 running CM10 nightly, I only get 7 notches on the volume meter from vibrate to full blast. I miss having a more free-adjusting volume control from my old iPhone (which is pretty much the only thing I miss). It'd be great if I could manually adjust the volumes instead of whatever the preset levels are.

Hello.
The Motorola Defy, when used with PowerAMP, seems to sound reasonably good.
But... when you adjust PowerAMP's preamp and the EQ and get the volume to sound a lot higher than what you get with the stock player/media effects ... some songs sound distorted.
On the other hand... I've read about the Samsung Galaxy S and it's apps "Voodoo Sound" and "Galaxy Tuner".
Those apps seem to manipulate the hardware directly (instead of software preamp & EQ like PowerAMP seems to do). Apparently the Samsung has a dedicated Wolfson audio chip, so I suppose that's why they can do all of that.
So... the question is... can something of this be applied to a Motorola Defy? Even if it doesn't have any dedicated sound chip, could the hardware be manipulated in some way to achive something like what the Samsung apps do ?
I'm also remembering some mp3 players that could deliver more volume, but due to local european laws were forced to lower their output power... and then some people hacked the firmware and "erased" this limitation.
What I would like is, basically, more power, more volume thru the earphones. Could this be possible for the Motorola Defy ?
A side-note..
I am always curious when someone wants to have their media player louder:
Why?
Have you messed up your hearing somehow? Don't you use earplugs or headphones? Do you listen to music in very noisy environments... while vacuum cleaning perhaps?
That said, perhaps you could be a bit more specific as to what the applications for the Galaxy do exactly if you want to mimic their functionality on the Defy.
I think he's refering to hacks that adjust the frequency respon or/and adjust the software directly tied to the hardware for a more hi-fi experience. Not just meaning getting higher volume or changing eq-settings.
Just googled real quick and come cross this:

I don't know of any mods/hacks but PowerAMP is able to play flac files.
Cyanogenmod includes a dsp app.
It has equalizer etc. pp.
You can also use it on other roms with root, afaik... (had it on hd2 sense rom) just google.

I wan't my music played louder because... I wan't it played louder.
OK, I'll explain it to satisfy your curiosity
I usually play music when I'm working in loud or busy environments and I need to "focus" (intended pun, as I'm a photographer). I can't use canal earphones, so I sometimes need to use higher volume levels... wich the Defy doesn't seem to have, or at least not without distortion/clipping.
Regarding being more specific... don't you find specific enough the names of the 2 apps I've already given ?
Voodoo Sound
Galaxy Tuner
They work together and can adjust the Galaxy's headphone amplifier analog gain, thus increasing the volume noticiably without distortion, or so it seems.
These programs adjust some parameters in the Galaxy's audio chip, so the quality of the resulting sound is apparently better than waht you get from software EQ.
You can find a more complete explanation about all the possibilities here:
galaxyroot.com/guide-how-to-set-voodoo-sound-and-galaxy-tuner
(can't post links yet)
I can live with Defy's audio quality, but I'd want to prevent the distortion and the clipping I get when using PowerAMP to increase the volume.

Exactly that. I want to know If it is possible to do that (or something close to that) with Defy's audio hardware.

The DSP app makes software adjustments. It can't prevent clipping or distortion... it can do a better job than PowerAMP, at best, though I really doubt that.
--------
In short: I wan't to know if it's possible to adjust parameters of the Defy's audio hardware to improve the sound. What "normal" audio apps do is simply adjust the audio data via software manipulation, but they're bounded by what the hardware allows.
I want to tweak the hardware (or, better said, the software that the hardware runs internally)
So... the "developers" part of this forum is just a wish... nobody knows a word about this ?

The "developers" are busy "developing" software and are not here simply for your beckon call when you want something made.

So what's the point in having a forum for people so busy that can't visit the forum or answer any questions ?
We'll... at least you weren't doing anything important. Thanks for answering... though I expected a more informative answer... but, alas, you're not a busy software developer developing software.
Hi, I'm wondering if there are any effective software tweaks for the Gio to increase the maximum sound output, particularly from headphones?
I have looked into a number of options already and this is what I've found:
1. On some phones, there is a file /system/etc/hwVolumeFactor.cfg which has entries that control the max volume for speaker and headset. I have not been able to find this file on the Gio.
2. There is a an app called Volume Control+ which works to some extent, but it is a software solution that uses a fair bit of CPU and causes the sound to stutter on occasion which is annoying.
3. Some Galaxy phones have a headphone driver chip made by Wolfson that can be hardware tweaked by Voodoo Sound with excellent results, but AFAIK the Gio does not have such a headphone chip.
On the Gio there are two files that look like they may have something to do with sound output, but I've not been able to figure out how they might be modified to increase volume. The files are amp_gain.txt and analog_volume_table.txt
Any ideas?
i dont know for sure but after installing cm7 my headphone max volume is defibetly higher
prolly something to do with the dsp app

Hey,
Could you answer this:
Can I make my Gio louder, if I'm using GioPro_v1.4?
Thanks,
if you're so interested in, i can upload somewhere the DSPManager and then download it. Theorically it should work, on hyridan rom (based on original firmware) it works with no problems. quote me if interested
Riddle me this: how is it that an application like "Lookout Mobile Security" can make my phone scream with a loud volume but when I go to play some media or music on my Nexus it is so soft? What is "Lookout..." doing that no other app can replicate in getting a decent volume?
You must remember, its playing a sound designed to be loud and heard, not a low quality song.

I have noticed when I first got my GN that the speaker volume was pretty weak for videos/youtube/music... whatever really. I use high quality mp3 (320 bit rate) for all my music btw.
There are some apps to help with this of course.
1) Volume+ works great and would fix your problems of low volume alone.
2) If you're really into modding your phone. franco.Kernel Also has options to increase volume and improve sound quality.
I use both of them and the sound quality on my GN speakers is what I prefer now. Sounds great. I know it sucks to have to buy apps to improve something that should be granted out of the box for such a high end phone but it is what it is.
All Galaxy Nexus kernels have sound boost in them.

I do have volume + (free) and it does nothing I can tell, to enhance the sound,,, but If I purchase the app, you say there is a difference?
Volume+ definitely works with the paid version. Or I just use equalizer which works and is free.

I have the paid one, so I can't speak to the free one. I just set the speaker volume to +10 on my GN and it sounds really stronger then stock.
Also description on Free:
A Cyanogen Mod 7 or MIUI ROM is HIGHLY recommended. Running this app on a Stock ROM/Kernel may result in it not working, being far too quiet, or getting even quieter. PLEASE don't comment or rate badly if you are on a Stock ROM as this is most likely the problem.
Thanks.

I have noticed the newer AOKP builds 37/38/39 have much louder sound. Not sure if it is the AOKP Build or the new version of Lean Kernel, but I did notice my alarm is much louder than before.
Can someone help me with this little problem? I love CM or AOSP based roms but the problems i always had with them (on all devices htc one, galaxy s3, galaxy note 2) that they set the speaker volume too high and you can always hear that the speaker have problems with that, when you play your sound on the highest level.
i know there are mods like Noozxoide but they dont affect the alarm sounds or the call sounds.
would very appreciate some help here, thanks

A custom kernel will provide you with the abilty to set the sound levels, you would be able to turn down the max speaker volume or reuce distortion through a control app. look for a kernel with boeffla sound control, or wolfson audio control, scoobydoo sound or voodoo sound
Hey, I'm finding the volume through headphones a bit low sometimes, depending on the mp3...
I've used Dolby Atmos in the past with other phones, but that required rooting, twrp, flashing.... I wouldn't like to have to do the same with this phone. Is there any app or adjustment I can make to boost the volume a bit? I'm already using Ex Equalizer pro, but I don't hear a substantial difference...
Thanks in advance!

Not a solution - android newbie here.
Signed up to this website to troubleshoot the same issue. I suspect this is a software limitation imposed somewhere in the OS or added on top by the manufacturer, but I consider this a significant con on this phone. I tried listening to music while working out last night and it was just far too low to enjoy, ended up just going with my old iPod instead. I've tried out a few "volume booster" and "EQ" apps but the result as expected is just software based wave scaling that significantly distorts audio without actually increasing output power. If you are interested in audio quality, software EQ is not a solution at all.
I would imagine there would be a system file somewhere that can adjust this but that would likely require root access and whether or not it's in plain readable text is anybody's guess. Unfortunately this is my first Android device so I'm clueless.
I'll try looking for the application posted above.. let's see
update: poweramp isn't free, and from what I'm seeing does nothing that I can't do much better using VLC.
Veering off topic slightly, but is there a solution for users who are willing to root to the device? I'm asking for something that produces higher output voltage from the headphone jack.

Viper4Android can give much better output with certain profiles, but requires root and it's not advisable to root Honor 7X as stock firmware is not released by Honor yet. In most cases one will end up with a bricked phone or a phone without any OTA's
So... Nothing to do? I'd really love more volume but I don't want to root...

You have to search for a music player which can amplify the sound, most have it as a setting called "Gain". Neutron and Poweramp can do this but they are paid.

For music download VLC media player (it's free). It's what I went with for now. When you play a song find the menu and bring up the equalizer. At the top of the equalizer is a horizontal bar for volume, you can crank the gain up a bit with that. At 100% it will distort but you can get a nice little boost with it without significantly distorting your music. That's what I'm doing for now. None of the volume boosting apps system-wide have produced any respectable results for me, so for YouTube I'm still stuck with low volume. You can try searching the play store for volume boosters if you don't mind distortion for everything else.
On the other hand, I'm wondering if Bluetooth buds will be able to get me the volume I want. I have a Bluetooth headset but it sounds atrocious for music. Otherwise I'll have to buy a portable amp. Either solution is totally ridiculous IMO.
Honor 7x is a solid phone, even the gimped US model I bought. This is the only problem I've come across with it thus far. I doubt Oreo will fix it, so I'll be waiting until the phone can be reliably rooted.
I'll try VLC and see what I can do with Google play music.
Thanks for your inputs!
