Been messing with my phone in the dark and I have a crazy migraine. Using Chrome. Seeing the white Google Page is brutal. Been trying to find a way to switch to night mode or invert all the colors.
Found some workaround type stuff but nothing good.
Is there any way to invert the colors like tapatalk or Kindle can for night viewing? Preferably black background and white text.
I don't think Chrome has an inverted version yet, or if it'll ever get one. I haven't seen one floating around. That's one of the reasons I've stuck with the stock browser. Have you tried the app Screen Filter? It may help your eyes a little.
Yah I have the screen filter. I use it when reading books but with various content I get a lot of eye strain.
Lol I had no idea the stock browser even had that feature. Your awesome!
No problem. Its under Accessibility section in Settings.
That's great. U looked in chrome, quick ics, and dolphin. Never really mess with the stock one. Much obliged.

Many of us are rocking AMOLED displays on our devices now, and there's no telling how many hours of battery life I've burnt up viewing the forums here with their light yellow/white backgrounds. Please throw together a dark theme for us so we can double our battery life and spend twice as much time here!
Black and dark grey background elements with grey or red text would be awesome. Visually, I prefer the current themes, but it would make a big difference for all of us with AMOLED displays, since a black pixel isn't burning any energy, but a white pixel is burning as much as possible (unlike LCDs where the backlight is on no matter what color is displayed.) Also, my girlfriend will greatly appreciate it when I'm browsing late at night in bed.
Also, please send me a PM when this is implemented so I can change it ASAP. Thanks, and I'll definitely donate if this happens!
There is a black theme for the app, switch to it from settings, and you can find themed apks with many colors
Correct, if your on an Android device, the XDA app can be set to a dark theme.
Just open the app, tap Menu key > More > Settings > Display Style. Change that from Light to Dark. Thats it!
Perhaps I'm missing something obvious, but mine (XDA Pro app) doesn't have that setting.
Under Display Style, I only have the options:
XDA Premium
Simple
XDA Free
Am I missing something?
I tried updating, but I'm currently on newest, and a re-install didn't fix anything.
Making it darker would be terrific, but I'm not sure I want to install a themed APK just for that. I enjoy the market updating things too much to try and keep track of one more thing manually.
I got some time to try and play with the settings for a bit, and the setting labeled as "Simple" is a dark display, and the other two have varying levels of brightness.
Other than that, I did not have time to do an in-depth comparison of the differences.
Hey guys, does anyone know if there is an option to change the color temp of the screen? I remember hearing the sgs2 had a feature to change it built-in. The color temp is a little too warm in my opinion. It might be on purpose to conserve battery but I would prefer it to be cooler (the whites are too yellow).
On my SGS2 I had an app called Screen Adjuster. It would let you change RGB settings. That might help, if it works with ICS. Other than that I know some ROMs for the SGS2 had different screen "modes" like Dynamic, Movie, etc.
Did the app work well for you? I'll give it shot man, thx.
On the SGS2 it worked amazingly well. Made the colors less saturated and more realistic. Of course, that's with the SAMOLED+ screen I think. I'm not sure how it will work with the Nexus screen. Different technologies, right? If you search the SGS2 threads for "screen adjuster" you can see some people's recommended settings for the SGS2. Maybe you can use that as a starting point and work from there? Good luck.
Yea I'm not sure how it'll react since the nexus uses a pentile arrangement while the sgs2 uses rgb. I've actually gotten used to it and don't mind it at all now. Haha go figure right. I guess my eyes just needed to adjust from switching from my vibrant with voodoo color which looked noticeably cooler.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I thought it was worth nothing that I tried the Screen Adjuster app, and while it worked for adjusting the calibration/color temp of my screen, it seemed to make my phone VERY laggy. Does anyone know of another app that will do the same thing but apply the settings permanently in some way without having the run the app in the background? Maybe with root?
Hello, I'm looking for a way to reduce the screen brightness even more than currently possible. It is too bright for me to read at night at the moment.
Is there some way?
Check the market. There are way too many apps out there to do the task you wanted.
via xda app
I already have but none of the applications on the market allow me to make the screen really dark. It's still pretty bright even after using programs like AdjBrightness or ScreenDim.
I'm curently using Screen Filter but that only puts a grey overlay over the Displayed Applications.
Try this one: https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.pruss.superdim
I haven't tested it though.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Already tried that, it is no darker than the lowest setting from the built in menu. Other Android devices can go much darker. I was hoping, that it is just a kernel issue or something like this.
How is it that sreec filter doesn't do exactly what you want? It gets very dark, doesn't it?
One other possibility would be to use Cyanogenmod or any other Rom that lets you set the light sensor levels manually. In my experience, this feature seems to save lots of energy. IF you manually set those levels to very dark, you may get what you are looking for ...
I came from the Galaxy Note to the GNex, and on the Note you had the option to turn off the feature where if there's a lot of white on a page, the LCD will automatically dim to conserve battery life (at least I think this is why it does this). Also, you had the ability to control the brightness of the browser. On the GNex, I don't see any of these options to control the brightness of the phone, resulting with the browser looking a lot dimmer than the rest of my phone (especially when I load up sites that contain a lot of white area like Google or Facebook). The issue isn't isolated to the browser only, but even in the Facebook application (aside from the Facebook website), since there's a lot of white area, it looks dim and kind of washed out.
Is there a fix or work around to this? When I put the Nexus beside my brothers iPhone and do a browser brightness comparison, the Nexus looks so dark and blah...
Thanks!
There's no way to turn it off on the nexus. But I swear I can't see this dimming like other people can. Is it only on the Verizon one maybe?
I use my Android tablets for reading, using Google Play Books. I prefer a bright white background. With my Nexus 7 (2013) it's a pure white background, just the way I like it. With the Tab S 8.4 I can't seem to achieve bright white. It's more like a light sepia. I know sepia is a choice but that's a very dark (to my eyes) background. I've also played around with the Screen Mode but none of the choices seem to change the GPB background at all. I've turned Reading Mode on and off but I don't see any difference.
I know there are other reading apps but I like having a large library stored in the Google cloud and the ability to switch devices and have the bookmark change with it.
Any suggestions on how to change the background color for just Google Play Books?
I'm having the same problem with my Galaxy Tab 4 7.0". I've tried everything you have and it also doesn't work. I've also noticed that when I click the home button on my device it turns bright white just before closing so I know that the app and device are capable of displaying the correct color.
I know this isn't an answer to your question, just letting you know that you're not the only one. In fact your post is the first I've seen about this issue and I've been Google searching different variations of the question.
Those are my settings, and whites are white as should be.

I seem to get better whites with Basic rather than Cinema. When I use Cinema white has a strong blueish tint, especially on video. Whites on Basic are fine while watching movies, YouTube, etc. Google Play Books is now better with Basic and Reading Mode off but it's still not as bright a white as I would like.
For example, I was watching Ex Machina. An early scene has a helicopter flying over a glacier. With Cinema it looked like a sea of blue. I changed to Basic and the snow and ice turned white. You lose the oversaturated colors with Basic but the blueish whites really bother me on the other settings.
