hey guys..
so i just used Strawmetal's method of Downgrading my 2.3.4 to 2.2 HTC G2 *T-mobile* and continued to root it. I am able to boot into clockwork and just did a backup. I know its kinda noob, but im coming from a defy, but now.. am i free to flash any rom as i please? specifically Im looking into the G-lite... im concerned about kernel incompatablity and what not..
im not sure what the rules are for the G2 phone.. its been a LONG time since using the G2 and Im coming back to it. So any any help would be really appreciated..
Thanks a lot
If your already made a backup with clockwork then you can go ahead and flash the roms/gapps. Make sure you wipe beforehand. The rom should come with its kernel

thanks yo... ite crossing fingers... first boot...
anything else i need to flash? .. governors? fixes? ... radio? .. gps?
oOOOOhhh WHeee.. just booted... soo pretty ... thanks again !!
Umm governors are part of the kernel. You should be able to control them either with the roms inbuilt tools or an app like setcpu.
You should upgrade to the latest . 19 radio. There are instructions on how to do that on the forums. Ill try to find the link.

thanks alot.. i just flashed the new radio.. ahh man.. this rom is REALLY PLAIN.. haha but i guess thats the point.. any recommendations for one that looks decent and has good battery life? ... i suspect i will need to jump on that hzboot requirement..
Im not familiar with the glite rom. From what i could read on the thread it is designed to be lite. Im currently running the latest version of mimicry. Its pretty smooth and has amazing battery life for an ics rom. Im not sure what you meant by the changing the hzboot. You can always install the eng hboot for the g2. However you will need to install the desire z hboot for trying out sense roms. Ill also recommend installing 4ext recovery instead of clockwork.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app
I just downgraded/rooted/installed a new ROM yesterday. I went with Mimicry 1.3.2. There's plenty of cool features with that ROM. My favorites are the customizable lock screen (add up to 4 shortcuts), quick torch (hold power button while screen is off and your LED light will turn on), customizable battery icons (5 choices, 4 of which have percentages), shortcuts in the notifications screen (very useful). The ROM itself doesn't have many apps installed aside from the gapps you had to install.
The Aroma installer made everything a breeze. I also like how the WiFi calling package along with other tweaks were options in the installer. I would definitely recommend this ROM!
I am finding Mimicry good, too, and there's 1.4.0 now, just since yesterday
Like Deadeye, and indeed just a few hours earlier, I also rooted and installed Mimicry 1.3.2 yesterday. I am much impressed, and think it's a good choice for starters. Make sure you get 4ext recovery at some point, it makes changing ROMs so easy that you can always try another if you want...I've heard good things about several...aokp and elite mod are being used by people who helped me root, for example.
Just do a backup and flash any rom in the g2 developement section, you'll be good to go
If you plan on installing any sense Rom you need to install desire z hboot this will give you more system space and less space for apps 500mb and 1Gb respectively
Just google desire z hboot for g2 you will get it from there for an ics sense 4 Rom try gen y visionX B5 that's the best out there
HIT THANKS IF I HELPED

Hello
I've tried most of the Sense FroYo roms now and I can't make up my mind which I find most stable.
DeVillian, LeeDroid, UDK and Adams rom always seem to reboot every now and again. What makes it harder (for me anyway) is that I would prefer most Sense apps (Plurk, Footprints, Car Panel) and I would also like to install stock Contacts app. Pretty hard to find a rom which I can install the apps I want and performs well.
What rom does everyone think is most stable?

Flashed that before posting and I get reboots when occasionally selecting Twitter notifications from the status bar Going back to DeFrost until reboots have been fixed.

Same here. Really happy with it.
I'm using Pay87's froyo+sense rom, have been for over a week and there haven't been any reboots or stability problems.
Most of the froyo roms seem pretty stable now. Is it possible you have an app which is misbehaving?
ive used lee droid and modaco and both are stable. Did you perform the full factory/cache/davlik cache wipe before flashing the new rom?
I do a complete wipe every time I flash a rom. Probably me doing something horrifically wrong.

It's currently in the oven
But i've always had trouble with MoDaCo roms though. Don't think i've ever had one install properly
Edit: However, if this does work, it'll (hopefully) mean I can flash Mythamps Contacts/Dialer theme
I havent had one install properly either. It always gets stuck at the HTC white screen on boot up. Both 2.1 and 2.2 custom ROMS.
Anyone have the same problem or know why this is happening?

Do you have an ext3 partition on your SD card? Most custom roms has a2sd in it, hence an ext partition is a must.

True, but when the 2.1 mcr roms were out, we didnt have fakeflash, thus not having to unpartition it on initial boot. even when tried with an ext, it still wouldnt boot. Once got it to the Sense loading screen, but it wouldnt move on from that
As usual with mcr, it isnt booting. stuck at white htc screen
Since using ROM manager I haven't had a single boot loop with any ROM and I have tried most! My current favourite is MoDaCo R5 which allows me to include just what I need using the online kitchen. I have had no problems at all with this release.
MoDaCo R6 has just been released and adds the standard Contacts app and other minor additions.
I've had problems with most froyo roms. Imo none are as stable as the eclair roms.

MCR R6 is the most stable I've found. And I totally agree with the kitchen. Most devs are keeping QuickOffice in their roms as it isn't available in the market, so the kitchen is great for removing that. Absolutely love it.

Can anyone help me find the latest stable stock miui build in English and how to flash it. I really want this rom, but from what I've read flashing is completely different. Thanks in advance.

Flashing is the same as any other ROM, XJ is meant to be good but the 2.3.3 is still in it's first week of release. New version out tomorrow
Keep an eye on MIUI-dev.com
Tomorrow can you post the link to downloading it, and do you need a sd partition? Thanks.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yes you need an EXT partition, and go here to get the latest versions/information:
http://www.miui-dev.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?16-HTC-Desire-GSM
Search next time, especially if you don't know how to create an EXT partition
I used ROM Manager (you can find this on the market) to create a 512 MB Ext partition. Using 1.3.25 XJ MIUI X-Part at the moment.
Flashing it is just the same as any other ROM.
I have searched but i find miui
Confusing, and it suppose no one wants to explain what kind of partition i need

I gave you the LINK to the MIUI forum, it's right there at the top (look at the sticky threads)!!!
If you're not prepared to actually find the information out for yourself then you're better going away
And as a side note, do not use ROM Manager - it's crap
Have a look at miui-au. It is an excellent ROM in English and it has a very good IDIOTS guide .

I use ROM Manager all the time and it works great for me.
What do you use and why do you think it's better than RM?
I use AmonRA to manually do everything - a lot more intuitive and less prone to going wrong
Since there is no thread regarding this mod, and since i wanted it for myself so badly, after busting Flemmard's balls for about 2 hours I managed to make it
It simply makes the launcher go to landscape without the need to slide the keyboard out.
This has only been tested on Virtuous Sense 2.0.0
Very cool. If I used rosie I would use this.
Am at work so cannot test this myself, but does anyone know if this will also break the lockscreen options menu on the Sense 3.0 lockscreen?
Yes it probably will. The lockscreen will still work but you won't have the options to change it.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
will it work on dhd with virtuous unity?
Works great, I've been wanting this option, thanks
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App

This, will not work on unity.
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA Premium App
tried to install on a dz with virtuous2.0 works fine, but on a 2nd boot it doesnt work anymore
Has been working for me great all this time. It started "breaking" this morning though, after i installed the sense 3.0 lockscreen. The thing is that rosie gets fubar sometimes on its own will, when exiting a landscape game for example...
rosire rotate desire z
hi,
I have instaled Rosie.apk with no problems and now when I rotate the phone the homescreen also rotate without opening the keyboard. (I have desire Z -rooted with Virtuous Sense v2.0.0). But when I restart phone this function dissaper so I have to install Rosie.apk again. Is there any way to fix that.
I havent had problems of sort, but if i were you i'd try the flashable version.

thanks for answer but I am new in android world and I am not shure what means flashable version. Does that mean that I have to download the Rotating_Rosie.zip file and apply it with ROM Manager as I would install new ROM? Is there any chance ob bricking the divice or being stuck in boot loop when doing this?

There is all ways a risk flashing mods. But as long as you use the mod on the correct Rom you will normally be fine.
To apply the rotating_rosie.zip you need to flash in recovery. You can use Rom manager. But I would suggest that you learn how to use CWM recovery to get full manual control over your device.

Having ported a GB ROM i figured i'll try my hand at a froyo port,
searched through the cdma threads again
and found a Froyo rom built by jaybob one of the cdma's finest developers
n began porting it
this is an aosp rom and is very much stable for daily use
for the moment i've only ported the black version and default version of the rom m hoping as time passes by i'll port all the themed versions found in the original thread
The original thread is over Here!
Now on to the ROM
I've added in the basic gapps package for ease of downloads
FroYo 2.2.1 CM6.2.0 stable[Default edition
FroYo 2.2.1 CM6.2.0 stable[Black Edition]
if you want full gapps just wipe cache and dalvik before you flash after 1st reboot
Full Gapps Package
i missed out provisions.apk
so plz flash this after flashing rom
Provisions-update PLZ Flash!
added email application in attachments
although i've added in the basic gapps package plz flash the full gapps package simply because i tend to make mistakes
Themes and fixes Made by Habarug for this ROM(Nice work and a big thank you to Habarug)
ICS THEME
Naked simplicity
Mod for the pulldown bar
Thanks to jaybob and elelinux based on whose roms this port was made

Compared to Decked ? Hmm, difficult to say at this stage. Feels fast and definately lighter. Apps2SD works BTW as does GPS Google Nav. Am still at work and now V. low on battery so have stopped fiddling till i get home to my charger.
So far would have to say this is at least as fast as any froyo i've used with my usual setup.
This one feels really good Will try it for a while, and if i still like it i will mash together a theme to make it complete for me
well, this ROM is very smooth, feels quick enough for daily use..
experienced no lags so far,we'll see how it runs in the next few days..
now if only Habarug ports his ICS theme from VE6 (as look is not really an upside of this room )
lol ur running the black edition or default?
Default.I just dont like the statusbar actually .
Would like to try black but dont like to restore all the apps again. Lazy lazy

I ve searched the forums for the best HTC Wildfire rom, but i didnt find what i actually need. I need a lightweight custom rom , heard about clockwork but still dont understand some things about flashing.
Things that this rom must have:
-Quick response
-Android apps (not sure if all roms have this option)
-Fast internet browsing
Optional
-Fast boot
-Supports subway surf
-Music equalizer
Will flashing work if the phone is coded to one network (telenor in this case)?
By the power vested in me i end this post by saying that i dont need htc sense in this rom.

Firstly "clockwork" is known as clockworkmod recovery, and is a custom recovery and not a Rom. It is what is used to flash a Rom.
Your sim lock will have no effect in you flashing custom roms, just as flashing a custom Rom will not remove it.
All android phones have android apps. If you mean google apps, like the play store and gmail ect, they come as a flashable zip to go with cyanogenmod roms (gapps). Just read the threads, and lastly just flash cm7 and gapps as it fits all your needs.
Job done
