Desperately need help for wrong downgrade of Samsung S2 Epic Touch (Sprint) SPH-D710 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I badly wanted to downgrade from ICS to Ginger bread and downloaded ODIN3 1.85 along with PDA TAR and BOOTLOADER and proceeded to downgrade following a YouTube demo. The downgrade was almost 90% through but then suddenly failed.
Now the issue is that my mobile is not even booting and gets stuck at "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I am able to start the phone in Download mode (power+volumeup). However the mobile is simply not getting detected by the computer although all drivers are installed. For that matter the computer is not even detecting Hardware addition if I connect the phone via cable. I have tried different computers as well.
Please help me. Please....Please....:crying:

Does Odin see your phone at all?
What do you get with PWR+Vol Down?

I don't know man it doesn't sound good. Maybe a USB jig will help your phone. I was able to bring my buddy's dead captivate back to life with one.

Let me look, but it may be as simple as restoring from a Kies created image. I can make one if that is the case. Im gonna hit up the Googles

Here is the link to Kies: http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c.../20120809103126135/Kies_2.3.2.12074_13_13.exe
You can go to Tools in the menu once installed and recover. You will probably be back at ICS and have to start over though.

You flashed the bootloader from a different gs2 variant which leaves you with 1 option to repair, paying to have it jtag'd Odin won't recognize it and your PC won't recognize it, since the drivers for your device sph-d710 don't match the bootloader you incorrectly flashed. Reading carefully before flashing is an absolute must with this device as there are multiple variants of the gs2. Only thing you can flash to this device will say E4GT, ET4G, epic touch, epic 4g touch, epic touch 4g, or sph-d710. If it says gs2 it DOES NOT go to this device. At this point if your device wont boot it is essentially bricked and there's nothing you can do short of having it jtag'd or filing a claim with asurion. If it goes into download mode taking it to sprint isn't an option cuz they will know you flashed the wrong firmware and won't give you a warranty replacement like they will with a blue light of death brick. When you get it replaced/repaired I suggest you do alot more research before trying to do any more Modding to your device, and also make sure you read the instructions and file names extra carefully.

I agree that I did this is haste. But a question that pops out is that the computer is not detecting addtion of any hardware device when the cable is getting connected to the mobile. Even if the USB drivers do not match, the computer should atleast 'ding' acknowledging that a hardware has been connected. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I tried your solution. Did not work because as I told you, the phone is simply not getting detected by ODIN or KIES. So its simply not making any changes to it.

The bootloader doesn't match the device the computer won't recognize it, it won't even know it's plugged in cuz the USB on the phone is dead(has no power or info going to it for the computer to pick up and recognize as an active connection) there's nothing you can do short of having it jtag'd or replaced thru asurion, or using it as a shiny paperweight, its bricked. Jtag costs around $50 and can force write the proper bootloader on it to get it back in working order that's the only option to repair it.

Thanks for the input. Problem is that I live in India. So I am providing some more details about download mode. It says
Product Name: GT-i9100
Custom Binay Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
It almost seems as if no changes have taken place when I tried to downgrade. So how can we come out of the issue. Please help...

I'm sure you have tried this, and this may sound incredibly stupid, but when I did that to my phone once, it wasn't recognized in download mode, but if I plugged it in on the screen where it said firmware error and opened odin up, it was recognized. I don't know if a restore will work, tho.

You clearly installed the bootloader for the intl gs2/Samsung i9100, the epic touch 4g is the Samsung sph-d710. There is nothing you can do except jtag or buy a new device if you're in India. I suggest Googling a jtag service in your country. Otherwise buy a new phone and use that one for parts or something cuz its bricked and there's NOTHING you will be able to do to fix it, it requires a riff box for force the rewrite of the emmc chip to replace the bootloader with the proper one. The USB won't work because the wrong drivers were installed with the bootloader, the phone has no recovery to flash a rom, and no rom to boot and use as a phone. Its basically done for unless you have it jtag'd. If you can't find a jtag service in India you're just gonna have to eat the cost of a new device. Sorry about your luck but you really should be more careful when attempting to mod a few hundred dollars worth of electronic device.

India has cdma networks it can be flashed too as well, they are one of the few countries outside of north America with cdma networks. Japan, India, Costa Rica, and a small few European countries have cdma providers most of which are very small networks with only a few towers outside of japan who has a large cdma network

Is there any way in which the mobile can be booted in Recovery Mode. I have tried googleing but am not able to get any reliable JTag services in India. Please help...

Your best bet would be just to get a new phone, if this one comes with ICS then look for the build of GB that you want( EL29/26, EG30, etc.) (Make sure its a .tar file. Finally flash in Odin. There's also a guide in the android development of how to root this phone. Follow it and then install the ROM of your choice ( make sure its a GB ROM)

[HELP] Bricked my S3 i747M.

Hey guys, im new to the scene, and while fiddling around with my Galaxy S3, i have managed to brick it! Here is what happened.
I rooted the phone using a tutorial from here:
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-r...gh-t999sgh-i747sph-l710-fail-proofnoob-proof/
Everything worked fine and the phone successfully rooted. But than i came across roms ... and i found a tutorial that told me how to install CyanogenMod 9:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778165
I tried to follow the instructions, but i would get (Error 7), and i realized that this tutorial instructed me to install the ClockworkMod Recovery version 5.8.4.7. So i downloaded the file from ClockworkMod's website, and it was in a .img format. When i had rooted my phone and installed ClockworkMod i used a .tar version via Odin, and this time i had a .img. After going through many tutorials, i found someone that showed how to install the .img varient via Android Terminal Emulator. So i followed the instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363132
After i was finished following the instructions i rebooted the phone. And boom, it would not turn on. I tried all variants of holding the external buttons etc. Than i plugged the phone into a Windows PC. and the phone shows up in device manager as "QHSUSB DLOAD". So after tirelessly researching, i finally found the drivers for this and installed them. And know the phone shows up in Odin as COM10 in yellow. So i tried to flash the stock Image. I fire up Odin, select PDA, than the stock image, and click start. This is all that happens in the "Message Log":
<ID:0/010> Added!!
<ID:0/010> Odin v.3 engine (ID:10)..
<ID:0/010> File analysis..
<ID:0/010> SetupConnection..
(I have attached a screenshot of the above)
Please guys, i just got the phone and now it is bricked, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
First download the correct version of Odin and drivers for s3's here ;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722686
Then download and flash the full stock rom from here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752729
Hopefully that will get your phone to boot.
Then once you have reapplied the rooted system image download "rom manager" from the market and flash the updated recovery from there to avoid the error you encountered when attempting to flash cm9.
Good luck!
Hi, Thanks for your reply. I tried using a "Jig" and it did not put the S3 into download mode. LIke i said previously. When the S3 is connected to my PC it shows up as "QHSUSB DLOAD". And no Samsung drivers would work with it. I had to research and find the drivers that finally worked and allowed Odin v1.85 to see the phone as "COM10", and i select the ROM under the PDA and click the "Start" button. But than it does not go past SetupConnection. I thought maybe the "Jig" was faulty and didnt work, but i tested it with another working Samsung Galaxy S2, and it worked exactly as it was supposed to. Should i still try your suggestion or is it pointless?

Ouch.
It sounds like your bootloaders might be borked, so kinda pointless.
I would get ahold of Josh at www.mobiletechvideos.com as it sounds like jtag might be required.
Hey, Thanks for the info. But the image i flashed via the Android mobile terminal app on the phone, i was flashing a ClockworkMod v5.4.8.1, that was made for the AT&T i747 (I have the Bell i747M, which i am told is the same thing?) , is that the bootloader? I know someone here that is local that does the jTag repair. But im not sure if the problem i have is in relation to the bootloader. Please let me know. As the phone still does show up when connected to the PC.

I tried your solution. The phone when connected to the PC with does not show up in Odin 3.07 (Correct version for my phone, from your link), But if i turn on Odin 1.85, the phone shows up fine in that as COM10 in yellow. So does my phone need a jTag? Samsung Canada told me to send the phone in for service and they will reset it and send it back. At the moment the phone does not turn on or go into download mode, and when connected to the computer it shows up as HS-USB QDLoader. So my question is: If i send it to Samsung, will they discover that i have Rooted it and void my warranty and not fix the phone?

If you send it to Samsung its unlikely they will notice or care that its rooted.
I have sent them 2 devices that I wanted them to reflash after I did stupid things and hardbricked, fully expecting to pay for it, and it was returned to me flashed and at no charge. This was after I told the customer service rep that I was flashing custom firmware and i screwed it up.
YMMV.
The worst case scenario there is they void your warranty and charge you a minimal fee to reflash it.
As for your bootloaders, you pushed a custom recovery that failed, corrupted, or was an incorrect application. The recovery lies in the bootloader..
If it doesn't power up, won't go into download mode, and Odin won't flash it I'd say its jtag or send it to sammy time.
I see, well i do not care if they charge me anything. Money is not an issue, Ok well i just got the email from Samsung with the shipping label. Thanks for your information.

Yeah just go to Samsung. Its too bad u never read that the newer versions of CWM recovery don't work on the 747m. The 747 and our m variants are close but still a bit different in a few ways although when coming here for rooms and stuff we have to use this at&t 747. Section. There is a great rooting post under the development stickies and it mentions the UNICERSAL VERSION OF CWM RECOVERY FOR 747m phones and that is the one I used and all of us 747m users should install. 5.4.0.4 or something like that. Definitely not 5.8.x.x. I could have told u that would brick your phone and most proper posts would too. And unfortunately yes the recovery resides in the boot loader area so it can cause a brick.. so keep that in mind when u get your phone fixed. Either use the earlier cwm rec version or just change to TWRP RECOVERY which I just did and many recommend now anyways.
Good luck and I'll come back to post the link with the best root and cwm rec install forOUR 747M phones and remember there are some differences and not all 747 mods will work for us so please read up first

I don't think the version he used was the issue as other Canadian users report that 5.8.x.x works fine.

Ah yes..that makes sense. That would pooch the phone. As for cwm it appears I was mislead as I read on few posts that newest versions don't work or not recommended for Canadian variant but it appears u might be right and I'm now seeing more and more report that it is installable. I'll have to check it out. Thanks
You flashed a recovery for the LG Thrill 4G. At what point in time did you assume it was the same phone as the I747M? You have bricked your phone. It needs JTAG service. Samsung will probably cover it under warranty, or you can pay someone that has the equipment to do it. You have no other options at this point. When you get it back from repairs, make sure you only flash AT&T/Bell/Telus/Rogers I747(M) software to the phone....
Ya i got the phone back from Samsung after waiting 3 weeks. They had to change the motherboard on the phone. Yes, it was the wrong instructions i followed which screwed me over! Since than i re-rooted how i did the first time i got the phone. Just a few days ago i saw the new CyanogenMod 10 M1 Rom, which i wanted to install. And again like last time in order to install it i had to upgrade my CWM to the newest version. This time i did not rush into it like last time and consulted with my buddy who is an expert in Android. The problem i had last time was i downloaded the new CWM in an .img file, and this time i ended up finding the newest CWM in a .tar and used Odin to flash it successfully. Than i just installed the rom and was good to go. My main reason for wanting to install a custom rom was i was getting absolutely HORRIBLE battery life from my S3. I ended up buying a juice pack which greatly helped me out. But now that i have CM10 my battery life is phenomenal, + the juice pack i now go maybe 2 days without having to charge. Now my sister who has the Wind Mobile S3 T999V wants me to upgrade her rom to the same as mine. I have found the T-Mobile CWM for her phone, and all the relevant software, but i am still hesitant to install the CWM on her phone. The T-Mobile CWM 6.0.1.2 is compatible with the Wind Mobile S3 T999V right? Or do i have to use a different version?
just to be clear about where you went wrong (im sure its been said already)
the guide you followed to install cwm is from the lg thrill forum. so the command dd if=... of=... had the wrong device id which is the most common cause of a brick
its actually pretty difficult to mess up your phone as long as you don't use mods designed for other devices

[Q] A few questions related to Hard Brick and QHSUSB_DLOAD

I am now owner of what may very well be a Hard Bricked Samsung Galaxy S3 with the inability to reach Download Mode and computer not recognizing my handheld. It ll happen't as I unlocked my bootloader to go in fastboot mode, it was then, all over. But of course as desperate as it may look like I've done some researches on Google and some people with different models managed to have some magic done in a situation like mine, but since I didn't own the same device the solutions were of no avail for me. So my question is, is there any sort of trickery to help me come out of this misery? Such as force installing new QHSUSB_DLOAD specifically for a Samsung Galaxy S3 or some battery related magic that could help me reach Download Mode where I could flash a stock rom back in and get back to normal? Any help would be much appreciated.
this just happened to me as well today, not to happy, my heart sank in, did u find any solutions as far as fixing this qhusb thing?
AFAIK there is no fix, same deal on all phones with the same SoC, like the one x. I could be way wrong though and I hope I am. Hope you guys get up and running soon.

Most likely they will say that you voided your warranty so you may have to take it in to a JTAG service.

Any update on this? My phone did this to me last night when updating CWM. I'm about to go to Radio Shack to buy some resisters to see if I can force download mode, like on Captivates.
EDIT: Even though this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrZUrE5Nqj0) shows that the Jig works with the GS3, I was not successful in putting it into download mode. I was able to with my captivate, just to make sure I was on the correct pins.
Hopefully the AT&T store will just swap it out and leave it at that, since I pay for insurance...I don't want to have to send it away to mobiletechvideos.com for JTAG repair, but will if necessary.

Regardless of where the phone came from the end result is still the same... you guys are hard bricked. The only available solutions to you atm (and trust me on this I hard bricked mine aswell) is
A - Send your phone in for warrenty/insurance, dont worry about everyone saying you cant because of voided warrenty... your bootloader is screwed and they wouldnt be able to tell anything about rooting/cwm etc.
B - if warrenty/insurance is unavailable to you then your only other options are to send it to samsung to get it repaired on your own dime. Or save yourself a bit of money and send it for jtag repair which is what I did. If you live in the states the guy can have your phone back in your hands usually within 4-5 business days.
hi there
i have an SDcard of 4GB i tried on 4 S3 i747M hard bricked phones its worked ....this card let them alive to download mode by pressing volume down key +home key + power. i want to share this image but when ever i connect this card to my PC (windows) its shows (need to format your card)
is there any software so i can make image and share...to help those who hard-bricked their phones.

I reject your reality, and substitute my own! Ah, anyway.. any updates on this? Its been a year or so.. I have the sprint s3, but i believe it had an insecure boot image flashed to it. The emmc boot method has failed me thus far. Not sure if it's because mine is a 32gb and the debrick files for for 16gb '(which shouldn't matter), if the board for my 32gb is affected by a brick bug, or what.. The qpst tool just seems like it's the perfect tool to fix a bad bootloader on any qualcomm phone, but all the guides I've found are for other phones still. I accidentally dd'd an image of my EFS partition to the sbl2 partition. I looked up the international s3 table by mistake

Yes. Download a live linux distro, like knopix or such. Any linux distribution will work, really. Then in a terminal you would do something like
Code:
sudo dd if=/dev/sdX of=debrick-image.img
Where the "X" in "sdX" corresponds to the sdcard you want to copy. After you insert the card, in a terminal do:
Code:
dmesg | tail
and you should be able to see that it is sdb, sdc, sdd, etc. Google the usage of "dd" if you need more info.
Thanks for info i'll try this today

[Q] UN-ROOT Galaxy Note 2 LTE Tutorial?

I just successfully rooted my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 using Odin and CWM Recovery.
This is exactly what I did:
- D/L Odin 3.04 and "cwm6-root-note2.tar" and saved them to my Desktop
- Extracted Odin and started the program
- Set my Note 2 to USB Debugging
- Restarted the Note 2 in "Downloading Mode" by holding down Volume Down, Home & Power buttons simultaneously
- Connected usb cord to my phone and computer
- Confirmed that Odin registered connection of my phone correctly on COM port
- Went to PDA, then selected "cwm6-root-note2.tar"
- Then I selected start, or root or whatever starts the process. And voila! Rooted with CWM & SuperUser App.
However, I might be returning the phone so I now need to know how to reverse that process and UNROOT my phone. Can someone please help walk me through that process? Do I need to obtain more files that were overwritten or deleted when I rooted?
Also, I thought, perhaps, I could unroot using the SuperUser app so I chose the option that said something like "Unroot.... etc." All it did, however, was get rid of Super User because when I restart my phone in recovery mode, it still boots CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.4
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance. Which link do I download though? Are they all the same? Or do I need to find the link with the country I bought the phone in? If so, I didn't see Korea on that list at all.
Also, when I do this, will the counter be reset to zero?

Hi,
So you rooted a LTE version, can I ask which version did you have (SHV-E250S / SHV-E250K / SHV-E250L)?
Is it meaning the rooting process of LTE version is same as the non LTE (3G?) Note II?
Also, what is the reason of returning the phone? Did you find something not good with LTE?
Thank you.

I rooted a SHV-E250L. The process went very smoothly. Especially considering I'd never rooted a phone before. So, from my experience, it seems to be the same process but don't take my word for it.
The phone is awesome - no problems at all. It was just very expensive and I was having a little buyer's remorse. I'm over it now. I was also concerned about not being able to use it in the US when I move back, which I am still unsure about. I have asked a few developers on here but haven't heard back yet. If possible, I'd like to flash a US ROM on the phone so that I can use it on the networks there and access the unrestricted Google Play Store... so, we'll see.
Hope that helps.

Brian,
I am living in Korea as well and I have a lot of experience with the Korean smart phones.
To answer some of your questions, you can use them in the states with either a Stateside SIM (assuming your phone is unlocked, you can get it unlocked from the store if you're going to be traveling) or a Korean SIM (obvious roaming charges). I don't think the LTE bands are the same in SK and the US, therefore you wouldn't be able to use the LTE.
In my experience (with my SGS1) you won't be able to flash a US or Int'l ROM on your Korean model. The internals might be closer than the SGS1 and it's variants were but I wouldn't do it unless you have the Note2 Korean ROM ready to flash back with Odin in the event it won't boot.
You can get unrestricted Play Store access now. You need to download MarketAccess. Google it. it Allows you to basically tell the phone what network it thinks it's on.
In the event you ever need to unroot your phone, you just need to use Odin to flash the official firmware.
If you need anything else, let me know...

Most likely Tegrak will have a kernel for this device before too long. You would then be able to use the Odin software to root the phone. The process is the same for both.

Thank you so much for the answers. I really appreciate it. So, you're saying for sure I will not be able to use this phone's LTE capabilities in the US on any network? If so, that's a huge game changer for me... I wonder what LG U+'s return policy is... I know I can just transfer the phone to someone else here in Korea when I leave and pick up a Note 2 in the states when I go back but I feel like I'd be losing a lot of money since the cost of the phone is spread out amongst the monthly payments here in Korea. Are there any phones that will work work both on SK LTE and US LTE?
Regarding un-rooting my phone, don't I need to get a hold on the official firmware before I can flash it with Odin? Or is it stored somewhere on my phone? All the official firmwares I've seen on XDA are for the N7100 not the N7105. Any suggestions?
Thank you, again, for all your support. You rock!

No problem, glad to help.
I am also looking for the firmware online. I haven't found it yet. PM me your email and when I find it, I'll send it over to you.
All info I have read says LTE is different. The 3G would still work just no LTE.
Idk what LG's policy is, but you could take it to Samsung a/s in the electronics market to revert it if needed.
Good luck. I might know someone who could take the phone of your hands next year if you want to go that route.
Justin
Good info here. But what about his flash counter? Will that be reset to zero by flashing stock from via Odin?

Flash counter didn't exist when I was tinkering with me s1. I'll have to investigate. I would imagine there will be a way to revert it. I also would guess the Samsung a/s could do it?

SHV-E250S problem.
Hello SHV-E250S/K/L users.
Does anyone know where I can download an official factory stock ROM for my SHV-E250S ?
I have an IMEI missing issue, and EFS file deleted issue. After wich i have a black notice on the screen and no boot logo or turn of logo, it just switches straight away after pressing the button.
No network or IMEI(((
I just came back from the Samsung official service center, and guess what, they can`t help me. They say i need to flash an original factory rom, i even brought them the two roms i downloaded from the: www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=SHV-E250S&pcode=0&os=1&type=1#firmware
And they said that these are not official factory roms, that they are custom, all thaw when i flash with one them, and go to recovery mode, my current binary changes to official. Don’t know why but everything else stays the same:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SHV-E250S
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (37 counts)
CURENT BINARY: Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
DON`T KNOW HOW TO FIX, AND WHERE TO GET FACTORY ROM((((
Would appreciate any help!

I tried to put i9300 android 4.1.1

I tried to put i9300 android 4.1.1. on my Att i747 sg3 and now I can't start the phone.
I was trying to upgrade the android version whole day, because I can't upgrade it through my phone when I check for upgrades.
The thing is I'm in europe and my phone of course we don't have a att carrier here, so it's not finding an update.
So in the end I tried to use mobile odin Lite, and put on i9300 version on it, so now it's not working.
When I try to start it shows me SAMSUNG and after that it turns off.
I hope someone has an idea how to fix it through my laptop ;/
Merry Christmas to all!
Well try this... open in download mode.... which is volume down key-power button and home button..... download odin ffor pc.... and latest firmware deom sammobile.com
Steps.
1.do not connect fone yet. Download odin and read instructions. Which as far as i remember was attacthing the frimware file to pda... then coonect fone in download mode as mentioned above... and flash that furmware.. should be fine..

Check the definition of hard brick, cause you have obviously missed something in that particular explanation.
Can you get into recovery with power, home, and vol up?
If it opens in download.... it is never bricked or if stuck on samsung logo not bricked... just open download mode and flash stock rom via pc odin

Odin/PC Doesnt Recognize device, Stuck on boot screen

Hello,
I just purchased my new Galaxy S2 4G from Virgin Mobile. First thing I did was install USB drivers, root it, flash a new PDA and Bootloader from Odin.
Now when I try to boot my phone I get stuck on
"SAMSUNG SII
Yellow Triangle"
I can boot into download and Clock Work Mod recovery and I think I can utilize a external micro SD to recover from. However I can't flash anything else from Odin as drivers seem to be messed up. I have uninstalled, reinstalled Samsung and Sprint drivers, tried different USB slots and everything.
Although it may be a driver problem as the drivers now fail to update when installing them, as it says "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller - No Driver Found"
Anyway for me to force reinstall those drivers or something?
Could I get a stock recovery zip or whatever and put that on a micro SD then try?
Help please and thank you!!
EDIT:
Also, I have no recovery images saved to my SD card or anything like that.
EDIT2:
Kies is installed but none of it is running when I start Odin.
EDIT3:
Also, the model is a SPH-D710, version was 4.04. Also that root I linked was the first one I used that worked.
These problems began when I flashed the CWM (I think) as a bootloader from ODIn and then another PDA.
My first thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37756078#post37756078
If you flashed something in the wrong slot in odin or flashed something for the wronf device you hosed your bootloader and the PC will never recognize the device unless you have it Jtag'd to restore the proper bootloader. JTag is a service you'll have to send off for as it's not something the average user can do themselves at home.

You're probably better off paying the $50 to get it jtag'd at mobiletechvideos.com than trying to go thru radio shack. Since the yellow triangle shows that means the flash counter will show at least 1 so they'll deny warranty replacement. The only way ud probably be able to get away with it at radio shack would be if it just wouldn't turn on at all, ie. Hard bricked

No I wouldn't recommend commiting fraud. I was saying if it was hard bricked by the emmc bug then returning it would be an option but since you can boot to DL mode they can see the custom binary count so unless you get a total idiot they'll just turn u away and flag your account for voided warranty. Mobiletechvideos.com would be the cheapest and easiest route although you'll be without a phone for about a week
