Wildfire stucked on boot scree volume keys not working - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi greet to all,
I bought HTC Wildfire before 3 days it was working perfect just i installed a theme changer application named "SPD Shell" then i restarted my wildfire it came to boot screen and volume keys and power button are not working and i am unable to select any of the option " BOOTLOADER , REBOOT, REBOOT BOOTLOADER, POWER DOWN ". I removed battery then put it back and hold the down volume key and power button it came to HBOOT screen but there too i am unable to select any of the options. My all keys are perfect and not defected. I have so many times flashed roms which upgraded my HBOOT to different version i.e 1.01.0001, 1.01.0002, 0.08.0008 and some thing like this but after all my htc not loaded its OS. I tried to install revolutionary & unrevoked but these software demand to connect phone in charge only mode with pc but i can't load OS so how can i connect my phone in charge only mode. Following are the important details.
Kindly Help me.

you mean "SPB Shell 3D" from the market? Says "incompatible with device" - so this might cause some troubles of course...

What exactly does that mean? You can't select "Recovery" from the Fastboot menu? Can't move between the options with Vol up/down keys? - Bear in mind: from the Fastboot menu you *select* an option by pressing the power button while in Recovery (Clockworkmod) you do it with the trackball...

No i downloaded SPB Shell from another site and it may be incompatible with my HTC Wildfire but i installed it. Yeah i can't select any option from the Fastboot menu, Power and both volume key do not work in fastboot and hboot menu. Recovery option is not available because i have not installed (Clockworkmod Recovery Application) and i can't install it because to install clockworkmod recovery software the mobile is to be attached with pc in charging mod only but my OS is not booting so i cant connect my phone with pc in charg only mode. Please have a look in the bootlader details ganied by fastboot getvar command, there may be some clue about my problem. thnx

I'm pretty sure spb shell didn't cause this, at the end of the day its just a launcher which is very much incompatible with a wildfire. In my eyes the only damage installing an incompatible launcher can cause would be if you have ticked the default setting and rebooted because obviously after the restart it won't work and you would be unable to change the default. It cannot harm your devices hardware buttons especially when the system isn't loaded.
Why you don't have a recovery loaded I just don't understand, you can still use fast boot to flash cwm and then adb command "adb reboot recovery" to enter recovery and try to flash it if the buttons still don't work try an ruu.

3. I have tried to connect phone with pc. I turned on phone so it stuck on the Fastboot screen then i plugged usb cable in the phone and run the exe file from computer "RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTCCN_CHS_2.10.1400.3_Radio_13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25_release_151119_signed.exe" then installation process started in the computer as well as on the screen of the phone after completion my phone reboots and HTC logo with white background comes and sticks on this screen, I waited about 15 mins but OS didnt start. Then i removed and placed battery so my phone came again on the fastboot screen. I tried to install revolutionary & unrevoked & clockworkmod recovery but these all application required phone to connect with PC in CHARGE ONLY mode but my OS is not starting so i cant connect phone in charge only mode. Only fastboot command is working with the following options " getvar & reboot & devices ". I tried to send file to phone using fastboot command it gave me error [ melformed 1 ]. and adb command is also giving me same response. one more this when i place some files in my SD CARD and place it in my phone and start the phone and comes to hboot menu where my phone scans SD Card for the files " PC49IMG.ZIP PC49IMG.NBH PC49DIAG.ZIP PC49DIAG.NB ". I placed recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-buzz.zip file after changing its name to PC49IMG.ZIP in SD Card the booted my phone. My phone scanned PC49IMG.ZIP file but didn't install it.
I hope now everything is clear, and you can help me.........

Try with this PC49IMG.zip
http://www.mediafire.com/?398dklf1uzss5f6
Hopefully that'll work to get recovery, if not I'd try a different ruu next.
In fact you may as well give this a shot too, on your PC click start or the windows orb and type %temp% to open your temp folder, run the ruu and look for some new files appearing in the temp folder. Look through the new folders for a file named rom.zip and drag it to your desktop, this basically contains the whole phones os, bootloader and all. Here you can either rename that zip to PC49IMG.zip and drop it on your SD although it does ask to press volume up to install so that may not work still. You could also try extracting the rom.zip and fastboot flash the files to your phone.

Thanx for your effort. My phone updated from this PC49IMG uploaded by you but after rebooting nothing changed, still same condition. i tried your second advice of rom.zip from temp. I placed rom.zip in my SD CARD after changing its name to PC49IMG.zip then rebooted and installed it but after installation nothing happened my phone came to FASTBOOT screen after reboot.

Did you try adb reboot recovery command?
I'm all out of ideas it seems your boot loader has somehow corrupted I'm pretty sure if you could somehow flash the bootloader or get an ruu to successfully flash it may fix the problem. Only other thing I can think of is a different ruu (eclair ones always seemed to work best for me) if you haven't tried one already.
If you have then maybe its a good excuse for an upgrade....
...

Yes i have tried adb command but it does not work, it says " device not found " because my phone is connected in fastboot screen condition not properly. I think adb required charge only mode from the OS but my OS is not starting. I have installed the following RUU successfully because it's a EXE file so when i run this setup from my computer it identifies my wildfire and install the RUU and it reboots my wildfire after rebooting HTC logo comes with white background but doesn't go ahead and stick on that screen. then i remove battery and place back and turn on again so it comes to fastboot screen.

Try using fastboot to reboot into the the recovery.
I think the command is just "fastboot reboot recovery"
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

This command is not working giving no any response.

OK try boot the device without the SD card in. Then test and see if the volume buttons work. I have seen an issue similar to this where the SD card was defective and hboot got stuck in a loop when trying to scan it resulting in the buttons appearing not to work.

I have tried without SD card but volume keys not working in fastboot and hboot menu. My Volume key are fine mechanically because i can go hboot menu by holding down volume key + power button.

yeah - very unlikely hardware nor any useful error messages - if flashing PC49IMG.zip files does work there might be hope, though

I am using Stock Hboot not revolutionary. and i have tried PC49IMG.ZIP, my phone updates from this file but after restarting mobile nothing changes. I have only used my phone only one day it's very painful for me.

hm, but as scratch mentioned (if I'm correct I remember that, too) you have to confirm the installation of the PC49IMG.zip (with vol up? - not sure) - so if your volume keys don't work: how do you know the update did work?

My volume keys are perfect but not only working in fastboot n hboot menu. When i place PC49IMG.zip in my SD Card and start the phone by holding down volume key + power button it brings me to HBOOT menu where it stays for a while then starts reading for PC49IMG.zip. After reading it give me the option to " Press Volume up key for update & power button to reboot " then i press VOLUME UP button and it starts updating, after updating it says OK and it tells me to press power button to reboot. After reboot nothing hapens it comes to fastboot screen and still volume keys not working on this screen.

Same here
Hi. I just signed up to post here that SAME ISSUE is happening to me.
I can use volume keys to enter boot screen; but then I am not able to use them to move between the options.
I have an HTC DESIRE device.
Before happening that to me I DIDN'T:
- Upgraded Android OS
- Installed new programs
UPDATED: After sending this post; my device, suddenly, started to shake!!
I had to remove battery to make it stop!

Hi guys again,
This worked for me like charm. Check in Google:
Restarting or factory resetting your phone
I can't put HTML link because of stupid 'no link before 10 posts' policy. Sorry guys, one thing is to fight spam; but this is too much.
Check this section; where it explains how to perform reboot without the need of getting into boot screen:
If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the buttons on the phone.
Press and hold the VOLUME UP, VOLUME DOWN and END CALL/POWER buttons.
When you see a warning message on screen, press the VOLUME DOWN button to perform the factory reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
After factory reset is complete, press the VOLUME DOWN button to restart your phone.

Help, failed attempt of custom rom...

Hiya i wanted to root and CWM my new desire HD so i followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841076
Everything went fine and i got CWM up and running and installed MIUI but didnt like it so i wanted to go CM7 but i accidently went to the first sort of recovery mode (the one with the android on skateboards =)
http://www.nexus-lab.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/desire-hboot.jpg )
So it automatically started to install the HTC android 2.2 Ver 1.32.405.6
that went all fine but now all the apps keep automatically crashing but the worst bit is i cant seem to be able to access the recovery mode or CWM no matter how i press the volume buttons during start up i know the volume buttons work fine as they change volume etc but when i press them at start up its as if the phone ignores them and just countines to turn the phone on normally...
Im new to the desire hd but i do have experience from CWM from Dell Streak days...
Any help appreciated...
Power off phone.
HOLD vol dn, & then press Pwr On button once (Don't release vol dn until have Bootloader menu (HBOOT).
Use vol key to go to highlight Recovery, press pwr button once
Should boot into CWM Recovery (mine shows the HTC logo for a few secs first), if it's installed properly
Edit: If you still have the 1.32 PD98IMG.zip on the sdcard, it will ask if you want to install/update. NO.

Ive tried this but no matter how i press the vol dwn button it refuses to go into recovery mode and just boots up into normal sense...
You say all apps keep crashing,..........
If ROM Manager doesn't crash, you can "Reboot into Recovery" from there.
Hold on im getting something...
i can access the recovery bit but when i highlight the recovery button it gives me a red esclamation mark
so i ran a factory reset and the apps seem to be working for the moment
but still the red esclamation mark
i assume CWM didnt install properly then? but the rom manager says its installed fine but when i click on the boot into CWM it gives me the same symbol?

Hi there,
I think your phone might not be totally powering off, hence that's why you are not able to get into the bootloader [ the one with Android on skateboards ]
Try this: Make sure your phone is powering off completely before you try to boot into the bootloader. Go to go into Settings > Applications and uncheck the "FastBoot" option in order for it to power down completely.
Then try the same sequence again. Holding down the Volume Down button while starting up.
See if it works.
What happens when your in that ! screen, HOLD vol up & press power button once?
Also
You can also try to boot into Bootloader or Recovery via ADB commands.
Enusre USB debugging enabled and fastboot option disabled.
Check adb connection to phone first in CMD (Command prompt) type:
"adb devices"
you should get a serial number of the phone HTxxxxxxxxxx, meaning it can communicate ok
Then try either;
1. "adb reboot recovery"
2. "adb reboot fastboot"
Ive managed to fix it by going to rom manager and installing a previous version of CWM
Thanks all the guys for the help! XDA FTW
OH just a quick side note if i did every want to just say return everything to normal like how i got the Desire HD you know no CWM or custom roms just with the sense v1.7 how would i do that?
Make a CWM recovery of your Setup now, and also keep it on you pc for safe keeping. Never know if the sdcard becomes corrupted or not. Also make a note of which recovery version was made to produce the backup. Some are incompatable when trying to restore you backup with a different version.
If you mean normal, there are a few links around to revert to stock (if that's what you mean), and tools to help make s-on again. By flashing the stock RUU, you will lose root, and it will overwrite the recovery with stock recovery. If you had to made a goldcard prior to rooting, you may require this.
Added info from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
To go back to S-ON:
•Flash stock ROM (RUU)
•Temproot using Visionary
•Use my tool, do Stock CID and S-ON (enter brand CID if you had a branded device, see second post)
•Enjoy your factory-state phone

Adding on to what UpInTheAir said, "If you still have the 1.32 PD98IMG.zip on the sdcard, it will ask if you want to install/update."
Note:
If u have finished the Downgrading process and u r done with the 1.32 PD98IMG.zip, remove it from the SDcard, safekeep it on your PC somewhere (in case your might need it again, maybe).
If you do not remove it, each time that you startup into the bootloader [yes, the one with the Android on skateboards.. Hehe.. ], it would automatically scan and if it finds that PD98IMG.zip file, it would begin loading the image to install the 1.32 stock ROM.

[Q] Please help. possible brick

hey guys i just wana ask for help couse its really urgent.
i wanted to go back to stock and install ru on my desire.
i was on alpharev s-off and cm partitions runing insertcoin and was having no problem.
then installed htc sync and runed RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122704.exe and it stoped with error.
now when i turn on the phone i just feel the normal vibration when it starts and the screen doesnt start at all. im stuck.
in device manager as soon as it turns up i get android boatloader interface device.
i think its becouse ive installed an older ruu on SLCD device and using the search engine i found out its not compatible with new versions of Bravo.
but please help what should i do to fix it? can i push somehow the new ruu in the phone or what? please go step by step couse im really new at this
fastboot
now ive read how to install fastboot and when i run fastboot devices i get a response that HT08VPL01168 fastboot so it means ive managed to go in fastboot mode and the phone is not dead? what next?
Can you access HBOOT? (Power on with volume down selected)
If you can, connect your phone via USB and run the following RUU:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.php?category=android&model=Bravo&file=RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
I'm presuming that you've already created a goldcard? (if you're phone originally came branded, you'll require one.)
re
no i dont need goldcart its unlocked and unbranded phone.
but i cant access nothing cous the display shows nothing. the only thing ive managed is with back+power to enable fastboot mode of the phone and connect using usb cable with fastboot on my pc. when i run the fastboot devices in my command prompt it shows the phone so it means its runing. how can i push the ruu in the phone from my pc only using the pc?
Have you tried powering on with volume down, waiting 20-30 seconds, connecting your phone via usb and then running the RUU provided above?
EDIT: follow this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831734
ill try it now

Good point - in that case, I would personally try booting with volume down, wait 20-30 seconds, press and release the power button once to select fastboot, connect your phone via USB and then run the RUU.
re
i run the ruu in fastboot using power+back but i cant see nothing in the display. the only response i get in the PC. and when i runned fastboot oem gencheckpt i got response the device manager changed to my htc and shows htc desire phone found. before that it was showing like i mentioned above. but now when i start the ruu i get conection error 170. strange. is there a command to flash the ruu or the pb99.img using fastboot smthng like fastboot push pb99.img for flash?
Try flashing with a PB99IMG.zip: http://shipped-roms.com/download.php?category=android&model=Bravo&file=PB99IMG_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.zip
I quote from the guide I referred to earlier:
5. What is PB99IMG.zip? How do I use it?
It is the actual ROM in zip format. You need to put it in the root of your sdcard, and rename it to PB99IMG.zip. Then, when you start phone by Back Button + Power button (Fastboot), this file is automatically found by the device and prompts you to update ROM with this file. Note that you may need a gold card. Note also that in Windows, if you try renaming the file, it may get renamed to PB99IMG.zip.zip. Delete the extra trailing extension.

And quoting this post:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268
FOR INSTALLING ANY RUU AS PB99IMG.ZIP
Press Vol- , then w/o releasing it, press Power button + Vol –
After 3-4 secs, the following screen shows up momentarily:
· Fastboot
· Recovery
· Clear Storage
· Simlock
This shows the above few options for 2-3 seconds, and then directly checks for PB99IMG.ZIP. It displays:
SD Checking…
Loading…
PB99DIAG.ZIP
Pb99DIAG.nbh
PB99IMG.ZIP
When it finds PB99IMG.zip, it starts to load it (13 secs after you press the Vol- & power key)
It gives the next options after 2min 20seconds (for the WWE 2.29 RUU) from the initial key press of Vol- and Power key.

1. Bootloader
2. Radio V2
3. Radio_Cust

8. Splash1
9. Splash2
Do you want to update device?
<Vol Up> Yes
<Vol Down> No
So, net key sequences involved:
· Back+Power
· Power again
· Vol Up
If we chose No, next option:
Do you want to reboot device?
<Vol Up> Yes
<Vol Down> No
If you pressed Yes, then:
Update is in progress..
Do not power off your device.
1. Bootloader -OK
2. Radio V2 -OK
3. Radio_Cust -OK
4. Boot -OK
5. Recovery-Unzipping/Updating
6. System
7. Userdata
8. Splash1
9. Splash2
It cycles through each of these in turn. For me, it took exactly 2 min 17 secs for time when I chose to apply update, to when update was completed.
(Note: At times, it may update the bootloader and reboot. If you have an SLCD screen, when the device reboots, you may not see anything onscreen (black). At this point, it is notable that the device boots to Fastboot instead of Bootloader, so you will need to press Power button again to get it to resume the update process. Once it completes, you will be presented the options to reboot the device. So you just need to Press Vol + after some time)
It displays:

2. botet the phone using back+power buttons and waited few seconds
3. connected the usb
4. runned the ruu
5. everything went smooth and after 1 2 min i could see the htc logo in the screen.
waiting now the flash process to finish but its alive again thnxs xda developers. it was silly of me not to know that older ruu dont support slcd desire and i got a blind phone

HTC One X - Can't go to recovery

Hello!
I have a HTC One X (EU-version), and it's unlocked.
I used to have Android Revolution HD ROM installed, and would try a new kernel. So I downloaded the new faux kernel (faux_004b5_arhd_7.0.0_modified.img)
Somehow it didn't work, and my phone keep restarting. So I go to the recovery mode, and tried to reinstall the ROM, without whip.
After that I made a reboot, my phone keep reboot. Now I can't go to the recovery mode, either can I flash my device.
I really don't know what to do now.
I hope someone can help, and I posted in the right section.

I had that problem before too. If the "hold power button for 10 seconds then press volume down and power buttons simultaneously" doesn't work, download Quick Boot from playstore and it would allow you to choose to either Reboot, boot to recovery, or the bootloader
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
trick is to run 'adb reboot bootloader' or 'adb reboot recovery'.

How can I download Quick Boot, when I don't have acces to my memory. I can't see what I have on my memorycard (obs. because I can't go to the recovery part), either can't connect to the computer, since I'm in a bootloop.
I'm afraid while I was doing this stuff, my battery was low. But it didn't die under the process.
Tyvm for the reply, but I can't install the quick boot.

Ty both for the reply.
EDIT: I followed my friends advise, and tried to erase fastboot cache, which seems not able do to. I just getting the message: < waiting for device >.
Dear God, what have I done with my phone!
Dear OP, I believe there is a solution. This situation has occurred with my device more than once. I too believed I had lost it until it resolved itself. There are several things you can do to ensure it works again. I wiped the ROM on my phone before the problem began, so I was stuck with a dead phone until I found a way to get recovery to work again. If it's possible, enter Fastboot and install a new kernel onto it, and THEN use fastboot erase cache. If that is not a viable option, make sure the USB wire is not plugged in when the device boots. By this I mean holding down the lower volume button and initializing the menu that allows you to select Fastboot, Recovery, Factory Reset and other command options. Once the device boots into the menu, you may then plug in the cable and enter Fastboot mode. If none of the above work, let the battery deplete itself until device turns off. Once you have done that, plug it into the wall charger, and then volume down and power up. If the device says something like "reading SD card", disconnect the USB and the menu will fully load. That is when you select Fastboot. Keep the device on, plug it into the pc and send your kernel commands to your device. Ensure that you also erase the cache via Fastboot. Your device should now be fully operational. I hope I was able to help.
Have found myself in a similar position, all the following assumes you're using windows as you desktop OS...
To double check your recovery is broken, get into fastboot mode (power on while holding volume down), use volume down to highlight "hboot" then press the power button to select. Then press volume down to highlight "recovery" and press power button to select. If that works, then recovery is fine, just go ahead as you normally would to recover the system.
If you can't get into recovery then you have a slight problem.
Since you can get the device into fastboot mode, the priority is to get it to talk to your PC. Get the device into fastboot (power on while holding the volume down button). Once you're into fastboot, plug in the USB cable and verify the connection to your device using the following command :
Code:
fastboot devices
This should show you a single entry for your device. If it doesn't show anything, then unplug the device, download the naked driver pack (available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161769) and unpack it into a sensible location. Plug the device back in, if it can't install software automatically or nothing appears you may have to use device manager to update the driver for the device. Find its entry in the device tree (it will probably be listed as an unknown device), RMB on its entry in device tree then select "Update Driver Software..." from the menu that appears, tell it to search automatically then point it at the location where you unpacked the naked driver pack. That should sort out any misconceptions windows has about not being able to talk to the phone.
Once you have fastboot access, you can reflash clockworkmod. You can obtain the latest version here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819
flash from fastboot using the command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img
Once flashed, unplug the usb cable.
Use the volume up and down to highlight "hboot" on the fastboot menu, then press the power button to select. Once in the hboot menu, scroll to the "recovery" menu item and press power again to select. You should find yourself in familiar territory at this point.
hth
EDIT : Sorry, it's nearly 2am here, I'm very tired and I've just re-read your initial post. If you've flashed a custom kernel then you MUST have fastboot access (or it's subsequently broken). Download your ROM (if you haven't already got a copy on your PC) and extract boot.img from it. Get into fastboot mode (vol down + power on) and plug into your PC. Do the following :
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
Unplug USB cable, use vol up/ down to highlight "REBOOT" then press power to select. If you get stuck in a bootloop, you can try going into recovery via fastboot (select "hboot" from the fastboot menu then "recovery" from the hboot menu), then select "erase cache", then go to "advanced" and "wipe dalvik cache". Then go back and reboot the device. See if that helps. If not, then go back to recovery using the aforementioned method and re-install your rom, then erase cache and wipe dalvik cache.
Thanks for replies.

Yes, I was dumb, started at low battery level, even tho, everywhere says: Make sure you have more than 70 %.
I can't wipe, or install anything, since it's recovery mode that doesn't work
Atm., I charge my phone, because I need to have 10 %, I use "Stuck in fastboot with low battery. Use this BATCH file!" guide. So far it works.

Hey, I am having similar problem with my htc one x here. I did some stupid stuff, tried to install jelly bean and now my device is broken.,
So the thing is, phone is stuck at HTC logo, I cant access recovery mode. And my phone now says tempered and relocked at the top so I cant get it fixed with my carrier which is rogers.
I tried installing RUU for rogers but it says image error and wrong ruu. I can't find the right one and trust me i've searched everywhere.
I can connect my phone to computer and see fastboot usb. But other than that I can't do anything with it.
I tried flashing cwm but it says failed. I'll attach image here with it.
If there is any way to fix it, please help, I just bought this device and I love it, dont wanna lose it.
Also, I read that I can add custom recovery to the phone but without recovery menu I can't do that either.
Thanks!

Do you have a custom recovery?
If you dont, you can find one here 4ext recovery
Download it and extract the .img file to ur adb/fastboot directory.
Rename the .img file to recovery.img
Boot your device into bootloader.
Connect your device to your PC and enter...
Code:
fastboot devices
(just to be sure.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Once its done flashing, reboot your device into recovery.
Transfer a rom to ur sd card.
Flash it and flash inpiremod if not added to rom already.

Wait i think i am beginning to get you. Pls answer these questions
1. When you boot into bootloader and then select recovery, does it vibrate and gives you a black screen?
2. When you turn it off and connect it to a computer via usb, does the charging light come on and shows up as QHSUSB_DLOAD on your computer?
3. When you try flashing ruu, via placing the ***IMG.zip on your sdcard and boot to bootloader, does it detect the ruu, asks you weather you want to flash. And after pressing volume up for yes, its looks as if its flashing but after rebooting stays the same?
4. Or when you try to flash the system.img via fastboot, does it gets stuck flashing?
1) yes, it vibrates and then 7 vibrations (after 2~3 secs) and then a black screen, and hitting the power button wont reboot the phone
2) yes, and even when it is on and on black screen it gives it to me
3) yes
3) no, never tried it

Lol..you are in serious trouble.
You might be wondering how i knew all that.
Cause it happened to my old Desire HD(Still didnt know weather it was a DHD or Inspire 4G.
It turned out it was emmc problem.
You should think of getting a new device or getting a new motherboard as that was what i did.
I followed an unbrick thread here.
It never worked for me. But you could try.
I remember i installed a wrong QHSUSB_DLOAD drivers which kind of corrupted the bootloader.
So watch out what drivers you use. There might be a possiblity, your might work.

HTC one M8 stuck in bootloop

Hi Everyone.
Recently I factory reset my HTC One M8 and now It hangs on logo screen when powered on. sometimes after a hard reset using vol+ and power it loads past logo screen to android starting, optimizing app, but hangs after optimizing apps.

Hold vol up and power on, until the screen goes dark (may take a minute or so). While the screen is dark, and before the white logo screen comes on, let go of the buttons and only hold vol down. Don't let go of vol down, until the bootloader screen appears.
This virtually always works. So if you can't get into bootloader, try again. Failure to get into bootloader this way, is usually due to not pressing vol down fast enough, or letting go too early.
From there, if you need more help, do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number) so we can get more info about the device.
Thank you for the reply, will try this and get back to you.
thanks again

You have about 3 seconds while the screen is dark to let go of vol up, and start holding vol down. If you the white HTC logo screen appears, its too late to start pressing vol down. If you had a working OS, pressing vol down "too late" during the logo screen initiates safe mode. But in your case, since you can't boot OS, nothing happens and it stays on the logo screen.
Really, its only sliding your finger down from vol up, to vol down, that matters. It actually doesn't matter if you continue to hold the power button or not.

I haven't seen any solution for this, aside from just guessing, and trial and error.
If you M8 version has the RUU in zip format, you can rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip then put it on an SD card, and boot into bootloader, and it should install automatically. Although an RUU won't install if the bootloader is unlocked and phone is s-on.

If you M8 version has the RUU in zip format, you can rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip then put it on an SD card, and boot into bootloader, and it should install automatically. Although an RUU won't install if the bootloader is unlocked and phone is s-on.

Do you know where I can get a Stock ROM to do RUU. I haven't modded my phone at all so would the bootloader not be locked and S-off by default.
again thanks for taking time to reply.

If the phone is not modded, it would be bootloader locked, which is what you want in order to RUU. Probably also s-on (although s-off from the factory is rare, but we have seen it). But s-on or s-off doesn't affect your ability to RUU (as long as the bootloader is locked).
Which RUU depends on the version (CID) of your phone. If you don't know the CID, you'll need to try to get into fastboot, and do fastboot getvar all, and post the results here (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).

Yes, I realize that. That is why I typed: try to get into fastboot
With no OS, you'll need fastboot to determine the needed info.
Your other option is to read the model number off the back of the phone. But this isn't always reliable (better to verify with fastboot getvar) as we've seen a lot of M8 phones with the back cover swapped to remove carrier branding.
But if you obtained the phone from a reputable source, such as your carrier, it likely won't have had its back cover changed. But you haven't told us anything about the phone. Is it carrier branded, what version you think it is, where you bought it from, etc.

That is correct, in CMD window, change directory to whatever folder you have fastboot.exe located. Windows shortcut here is to find fastboot.exe, open that folder, then hover your cursor inside that folder, press Shift+right mouse, and select "Open command window here" from the popup menu.
Then in command, simply type: fastboot getvar all
Or you can check the phone is properly in fastboot mode with the command: fastboot devices
The phone's serial number should be returned, if the phone is properly in fastboot mode. No serial number (no devices listed) or device indicated as "offline" means you don't have a proper fastboot connection. If everything else is okay (drivers, cable, etc.), but phone is not in fastboot mode, the likely result is the phone's serial number, but shown as "offline".
Again, don't post your IMEI or serial number to the forums.

The phone is on contract to 02, purchased fro the 02 store.

I have tried all the modes in bootloader.
1 when in bootloader if I just press power button to select first option all the phone does is stay in a continual loop of vibrates with a 2 sec pause in-between each vibrate.
2 Press vol- down then power then I see another screen with a small phone logo with a green circle going round with an green arrow pointing down. if i press vol+ power or vol- power the I get power icon with a red line through it.
3 press vol- 2 times then it takes me to screen with red exclamation mark and circle, then a press vol+ and power takes me to recovery.
in recovery it gives me the option to update via ADB would this be an option. if so could you instruct me on how to do so if you know
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply

What if you go into bootloader, and press nothing (any response to fastboot devices)? Fastboot mode is often the default bootloader mode, if a USB cable is connected.

You'll find the RUU for your version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
Plus instructions on that link on how to flash using htc_fastboot. Note, that you need to use the htc_fastboot.exe provided in that thread, the RUU probably won't run with the "generic" fastboot you are presently using.
Or you can rename the RUU file to 0P6BIMG.zip (first character is a zero, not the letter "O"), put it on an SD card, insert into the phone, and reboot into bootloader, and it will install automatically.
The RUU will install a completely new factory stock image, which will hopefully get you booted into Android OS, and fix the black screen on hboot issue.

It clearly says in the instructions for this method: Rename the RUU zip to RUU.zip
In any case, what you did also works, of course. The point is you are telling fastboot to flash the zip named in the command. You can rename the zip file whatever you want, and still flash it:
htc_fastboot flash zip whatever.zip
The file name 0P6BIMG.zip is only required if you use the SD card install method.
If the RUU stopped at the "flush image again immediately" error, just flash it again (this is a common and normal result).
