icon size plus desktop widget backup - HTC One X

I have two questions
1. IS there any apk that will backup and restore desktop widgets after flashing new rom?
2. IS there any apk that will increase or decrease size of icons in appdrawer?

I guess you use sense right?
1. Titanium backup might do the trick, or just if you flash a Rom of the same kind, you can after you do nandroid use advanced restore and restore just the data. Not sure how this works on sense though.
Or use a different home with backup option
2. Using a different launcher I would say, or experiment with dpi, but careful not standard values break the Google market.

1. Titanium backup doesn't save the setting of desktop
2. I am already using apex and 290DPI, but still want smaller icon size

Ok then elaborate why you cant backup with apex ? With Nova this works ok for me.
Also the nandroid advanced restore data does work wonders.
So go for 240 DPI and make the font bigger? <<< Will give you smaller icons and it wont break your market.
You do realize your market is now broken , and without the LCD modder pro it wont work for some apps?(or does this work for you?) Or you have some other way?
And how did you mod your status bar to not be bigger as the default one?

[q] ics tips

Ok I'm about to install the gedeROM ICS v1.35. Before I do I want to make sure I don't screw it up. I have TWRP2.1.1 And I backed up everything. I have the Rom loaded to sd card. So as iundertsand I boot in recovery wipe factory restore wipe davik cache flash .zip rebooted and enjoy. Anything I should know before I do this or does it seem that easy and straight forward. I was hit with problems first time trying to do it on win xp Pc. Win 7 everything was smooth with the root. Any help would be appreciated.
I'd suggest before you wipe anything to do a backup of your current ROM. I typically wipe dalvik AFTER flashing the ROM as well as BEFORE.
success
Everything went well with install. Not a single problem. Thank you developers
FYI for people who like to constantly update their ROMs like I do - I would suggest the following:
1) buy the Titanium Backup Pro key - you will use the crap out if it to batch backup/restore your apps & data after a wipe and fresh ROM install
2) Using TB to restore your apps + data works great, but what about your homescreens? Don't forget to backup your homescreens...usually you can do this through the settings menu on whatever launcher you are using. I'm using GedeROM 1.3 and I prefer the Apex launcher over the Trebuchet launcher. In Apex settings menu, you have the option to backup/restore desktop. I'm pretty sure most of the big name launchers have this same option. So when I update the ROM with a new version, all I have to do is restore my apps w/ TB and them restore the desktop through the Apex settings. Of course, this doesn't work if you switch launchers when you change ROMs

You can go to manage apps, select your current launcher under all apps, and clear defaults. Then, next time, when you click the home button, you should be prompted to select a launcher.

You could try installing GO Launcher EX. When you hit home it will ask what launcher to use. From here use Apex and select default. Then uninstall Go Launcher (if you want)
I installed root app remover and got rid of the two launchers that came with the from. Then got go launcher

[Q] Screen Layout

What file do I need to backup so I can restore my screens and folder setups after a wipe?
You going to need to supply us with more information.
which launcher are you using?
Are you rooted?
If you're rooted then it should be simple to backup the Home app with an app like Titanium Backup, then restore afterwards.

I am. I use 4 of the 5 screens with the default launcher.
Nova Launcher
has an option to backup/restore your desktop layout
"Backup and Import
Import layout from other launchers or backup Nova's settings"

There are a few apps that will backup the home screens layout for stock launcher:
- Titanium backup: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsImNvbS5rZXJhbWlkYXMuVGl0YW5pdW1CYWNrdXAiXQ..
- My backup Pro: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsImNvbS5yZXJ3YXJlLmFuZHJvaWQuTXlCYWNrdXAiXQ..
I'd give one of these a try.

Switch ROMs keep home screen layout EXACTLY THE SAME

So I have always hesitated to try a new ROM because that would mean I'd have to spend an hour and set all my widgets and apps up just the way I want them. Then I discovered NOVA Launcher. Not only is it highly customizable but it lets you back up and restore your current set up. Menu/Nova Settings/ Backup and Import. That saves it to your phone.
I also backed up all my apps and data with ROM Toolbox.
When you wipe everything to try out a new ROM you can go install Nova (if the ROM doesn't already come with it, which most do these days) and hit restore.
Before you do that though, install ROM Toolbox and restore all your user apps with data NOT system apps. Or if you keep everything backed up with the google machine then you can let it do its thing but you won't have any of your data.
I've done this on quite a few different ROMs and makes the decision easy.
Haha, this is exactly what I do. It makes switching from ROM to ROM ridiculously easy. The most time consuming part is logging into Gmail to download ROM Toolbox.
Also - I use SMS Backup and Restore from the market and it works great! I never lose Text Messages.
If going from JB to JB, I just dirty flash. All of my screens and widgets stay the same. Everyone doesn't like to dirty flash though

I dislike this due to the fact that there's reminents of each ROM that's left in there. Unless you wipe /system, it's tolerable.

Titanium Backup Pro allows you to make a flashable zip of any and all apps. So, you can have your "must-haves" ready when you boot into a new ROM
I use my backup root. Also saves my settings and backsup my homescreen. Been using it for porbably 2 years now

I stack the zips in TWRP:
ROM
gapps (not the 4.2 (inverted) aroma)
colonel
my_apps.zip
After setting up phone, I go back again and flash the 4.2 inverted apps aroma
dirty flash
After a dirty flash I always get error that unfortunately, email has stopped. so I have uninstall and reinstall every time.
Go Launcher EX does this as well, except the widgets have to be reloaded
Widgets have to be reloaded on Nova also, they're more than just shortcuts.
Launchers have been doing this for a long time, including Launcher Pro which is 3-4 years old Heck, I assumed everyone was backing up their apps and restoring them after a flash, including Nova. Restoring data for the launcher lets you skip the manual backup/restore altogether.
Widgets cannot be backed up like this; it's a limitation in the OS, not the launcher.
I use Titanium Backup to backup system apps like TouchWiz and Settings, SMS and MMS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. I always do a full wipe, and then restore from those backups, I setup a filter in Titanium backup that backs up all the system apps I want to save settings from, that way I don't have to hunt through the ginormous list of system/user apps and pick the right ones. After it restores, the only thing I sometimes have to restore are the widgets that don't auto re-load properly, everything else is restored perfectly, even Bluetooth and Wi-Fi pairings. :good:
New ROMs take me longer to download and flash than they do to setup and configure.
I use nand backup and restore DATA ONLY through the advance restore menu in recovery after i install a new rom.
This get you EVERYTHING back the same way before you fully wiped and installed a new ROM
I use Desktop VisualizeR, and Apex with widgets.
Using Titanium Backup, backup "Application Widgets", "Apex Launcher" and "Desktop VisualizeR".
Restore on any rom. All your **** is back. Wasn't that easy?
Well it wasnt easy for me to figure that one out!!!!! Hopefully it helps someone...

Depends what ROM you're on. For example, if you're on CM then you can use Titanium Backup to backup Trebuchet launcher.
If you're on Sense. I know there's an option to "backup scene" in the settings menu. A copy should be made on your phone internal storage. Not sure exactly though.

Backup and switching to different ROM

Is there a way to backup all my apps and their layout on home screen? I use Titanium backup but then I have to rearrange my apps manually into folders again when switching to different custom ROM.
Guys, who switch ROMs almost every day, what's the easiest way to fully setup your phone again?
Nova launcher allows you to backup your configuration.

Thanks for the tip!
Even if you don't use Nova I guess you could backup data (with Titanium) of default launcher and then restore it.
But Nova makes things easier + it offers a lot more customization.
