How to Unlock Bootloader for Branded Device - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am trying to unlock the bootloader (and flash a new ROM) of my T-Mobile UK branded Xperia Arc. I followed the instructions on the (very helpful) guides on the forum and sony's dev website; the guide says that I need to pay to have it unlocked? and the dev site says I cannot get it unlocked because:
In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.
Click to collapse
And the "rooting status" option is missing. :/
So, how can I unlock the bootloader and flash a new ROM?
Many thanks in advance

Mine says : Yes, then i continued. Then i put my IMEI, However, IMEI given by my phone is 15 digits, so i decided not to include the first digit which is zero (0). I proceed with that very easy and helpful instructions very carefully. Done. Then, i tried booting in fastboot using flashtool and selected the custom kernel ArcKnight, but still getting error message that 'YOU NEED TO HAVE A ROOTED PHONE' when in fact my phone is rooted with Busybox 1.8.1. What have i done wrong? Please help.

You don't need root to install custom kernel. You need to unlock bootloader.
You got Branded and/or SIM-locked device? Then you can do it only via paid method.

If it says yes doesn't mean it is unlocked and you can flash kernels you need to unlock it you can do it free and of imei last no. Should be erased to get 14 digit imei. Go to fast boot mode and unlock it and then flash kernels

[Q] Question needed to be answered

Hey all!
I am quite new here so yeah.. At first i post a thread about some questions but still i don't understand some.
1: How do i unlock my bootloader without SE detecting it as a unlocked bootloader. Some say use SETooL/Omnius but i am still not sure about that. I don't want SE to detect my phone's bootloader as unlock. I know if it does my warranty is as good as dead.
2: Flash? What is flash? More importantly how do i flash roms onto my LT18i? I need a clear step by step instructions. What do i need to have before flashing? ADB Drivers? PC Companion? Is there a video that can teach me how to flash roms/kernels clearly? Give me an example on how to flash using a rom that can be flashed on Xperia Arc S.
These things might be hard to answer as it is in every noobs mind. So please help me understand, these things. How? What is needed? Example? I need answers. It is hard to search for answers as i am busy with my school and i am having Common Test (Sort of an important Test that is counted in my Exams). I am willing to learn more about this Android development thing.
Thanks,

But! But! I don't get it! How about on my Arc S?! Is a free method available without removing the DRM stated in your video? Mine says BootLoader Unlock Allowed: Yes. But if i use the paid method (SETool 2) will i need to like connect the testpoints or something. This is for my Xperia Arc S
Success! After some experiments I finally unlocked my bootloader and I flashed an ICS Rom!

iii.Flash it with 4.0.2.A.0.42
iv.Turn on the phone when flashing complete
v.Connect the phone with usb debbuging enabled.
vi.Open the Flashtool
vii. Then press the lock icon on flashtool.
viii.Phone will automatically reeboot after done

[Q] ROM and Unlocking Code

Hi Guys,
First time poster!
My father has been given an SE ARC as a gift from a friend. The handset is not unlocked. Im thinking about sticking a ROM on there so i can get the latest version of Android for him.
If i ROM the handset will this remove the need to have an unlocking code?
Thanks
Darren
You have to get access to the phone proper before you install any ROM. These include some settings on your phone to allow various steps you need to root and install a custom ROM

I can get into the phone by using the SIM card it came with, the only time i get issues is when i use a SIM from a network provider.

How do you root your phone??
Factory reset just wipe /data & /cache. You shouldn't lost root.
If you want to backup app data, use Titanium backup.
The Phone won't go into fastboot mode

- Isak - The big problem is that I can't get it into fastboot so I can't install clocworksmod recovery, witch I realy needs so I can flash Jelly Bean on it and get Google Now and al those cool tings, and a performance boost. You don't hapen to know a program that installs clockworksmod recovery "automaticly" (like a exe-file or somthings) where you just put in the informatin, klick go and wate for a bit. That wold realy help sins I can't do it automatically for some reson.

You can use RecoverX to install CWM w/o entering fastboot.
Or if your bootloader is unlocked, flash a custom kernel which includes recovery mode.

That's probably what he wants to do, install a kernel.
To the guy asking: is your bootloader unlocked? Did you set up the fastboot drivers properly? Are you on Windows7 64 bit or Windows 8? It takes some looking up to get it working .
You can do it .

I'm having problems getting my Rooted, unlocked Xperia S LT26i into fastboot mode, so i can't install the drivers. I got the required "code" to unlock the boot loader, but when i run the program that is suppose to unlock it, it says device not found. My goal is to install clockworksmod recovery so I can flash an other Rom with Jelly Bean. If anyone could tell me what to do that wold be awesome! Please answer to this post, or. I have a locked bootloader, and the unlockable status says 'no'. But I also got an unlock code for it from Sony, and I already paid to have the sim lock released.
So I have a sim free phone (Acro HD, the Japanese Acro S), a bootloader which says 'no' to being unlockable, and an unlock code fro my phone's bootloader from Sony. Can I unlock it?

[Q] Bootloader question

Once my bootloader is already unlocked (I have a custom ROM..) is there any way to re-check my bootloader status via some app or *#*# code? like the systeminfo you had with *#*#737 blah blah.
Why you want to re-check? You already know your bootloader is unlocked right!?
Still if you need to confirm. You can always try using fastboot mode to see if your bootloader is unlocked or not.
One suggestion create a thread for your questions arc q&a section filled with your questions

Flash custom kernel. If it finishes successfully, then it is unlocked. If it fails (most of the times, it gives ERROR: Device must be rooted first), then it is locked.

flash tool shows error when about to finish the process.
Someone should help with .Ftf file
Sent from my D5322 using XDA Forums PRO
after successfully locking bootloader I am able to get OTA updates
Now I have unlocked bootloader, still it can be flash FTF..
i.e. without relocking bootloader, only OTA is not available..
so, FTF file has no issues,
the problem is with flashtool,
all you have to do is, download latest flashtool,
& before installing it, you have to uninstall previous version & folders created by old version.
Read 1st post of XperiFirm, to know, why flashing tool give error.

Actually I don't know..
but you can try below methods, maybe your problem will be solved...
Solution 1: Remove SIM Card(s)
Step 1: Power off your Android phone and remove SIM card(s).
Step 2: Wait for 5 minutes and then insert the SIM(s).
Step 3: Now power on your phone and check it.
If still receive the Mobile Network Not Available Error, then follow solution 2.
Solution 2:
Step 1: Go to settings and open Wireless and Network settings.
Step 2: Now tap the Mobile Networks.
Step 3: Tap Network operators and Select automatically. That’s it.
Also check your OS is up to date or not. If not, then update it.
If still receive the Mobile Network Not Available Error, then follow solution 3.
Solution 3: check this method
If still receive the Mobile Network Not Available Error, sorry, I dont know howto solve this problem..
you can ask in Sony Cross-Device section of XDA

Have you installed any other root applications other than your Superuser application?
If so, try to uninstall (completely) the application, lock your bootloader, and unroot your phone.
If a system data is altered, and you don't know how to recover it to it's original state, then you have no choice
but to reflash your firmware before performing an update.
I cant relock my bootloader. Any help on how to?
